Vicki reacted the same way my mom did the first time she watched Goose’s death. My dad “forgot” to warn her about it and she was fairly angry at him for a day or two afterwards. Despite this they are still together today, thirty-seven years later.
Top Gun A stunningly good film that had me gasping for breath throughout. Tom Cruise has delivered a truly iconic sequel which improves on the cult classic predecessor film. A fitting tribute to the original and one that continues the story in a way that pleases the fans and brings new fans in. The film can stand alone with enough exposition from the original.
This came out when I was 17 . I had to wait til I was 55 to see Maverick!! We all ages together and it really felt earned . I’m kinda envious at the quick turnaround you get to experience it In, I cannot lie. HurryHurry! I can’t wait to see your reaction! It’s literally EPIC !⭐️like you!🧚♀️😉⭐️
Viki reaction Is priceless She is totally engaged into this film And you could tell she loved it. The sequel to this wouldn't have happened Without the fans Of this film. To the Hommies your love For each other shows through. A 🌼 for each of you Because you give life and beauty.
19:48😢. I know ladies, I know. I always cry at this scene too. I have been watching this movie for 36 years. I have been getting upset for years at this scene. (Hugs you both and rub your backs sympathetically) it’s alright. Shhhh. It’s alright. Shhhhh
The reason why the flying shots look so real is that most of them ARE real. The movie was made with extensive cooperation from the US Navy, who provided all the aircraft and even fired a real missile for them to film (notice that all the F-14 "missile shots" are the same shot flipped left or right). The "MiG-28s" are actually American F-5Es and F-5Fs from one of the "Aggressor Squadrons" whose job was to simulate Russian planes for training purposes. Real-life MiGs have odd-numbered designations, so there's no such thing as a "MiG-28". The real ones would probably be MiG-21s, 23s or 29s, but they weren't available to western film makers in 1986. The only special effects shots are the MiG gun and missile firings, the shots of damage and explosions, and the F-14 in the flat spin. These were all made by the very high-tech method of throwing large models off a tall ladder and filming them against the blue sky! The accident Mav and Goose had was a very real problem with the first model of F-14. It's engines were notoriously sensitive to disturbed airflow and would often flame out, which would cause a flat-spin due to the off-centre thrust: the F-14's engines being widely separated. If the crew were ejecting in normal flight, the jettisoned canopy would be pushed WAY behind them by the airflow, however in a flat spin, the airflow around the aircraft is very turbulent and irregular, so the canopy "hung around" above the cockpit and Goose hit it as he banged out. IIRC there was a real accident very like this. In general, civilians often don't appreciate just how dangerous "routine" jet fighter flying is. It generates a steady stream of casualties even in peacetime. There area few goofs in the movie: 1. The F-14 is famous for carrying lots of big, long-ranged missiles, but the film ignores these because killing the MiGs at 20+ miles like shooting fish in a barrel wouldn't make for an exciting cinematic dogfight. 2. MiGs wouldn't carry Exocet missiles: Exocets are French. However this was just after the 1982 Falklands War in which several British ships were sunk or damaged by Exocets used by the Argentinian Air Force and Navy. The name "Exocet" had become well-known outside of military circles, so the film makers probably used it so that the audience would understand the threat quickly. 3. Mav gets roasted by Viper for going below the 1000 feet "hard deck" (minimum safe altitude) but later in the film, multiple aircraft (students and instructors) are quite clearly flying at under 1000ft. This is just "rule of cool", plus it's cheaper and safer to put a camera crew on a mountain top than in a plane that's maneuvering close to other planes (there were several instances of camera crews dying in the course of making other, older flying movies). 4. A US Navy aircraft carrier has four catapults, so two of them breaking down at the same time STILL wouldn't stop them from launching aircraft, and the chance of all four breaking down at the same time is negligible. Again, all done for the drama.
This movie was a huge hit when it came out, and has held up over the years! the flying scenes were some of the best filmed up until this time. I can't wait until you watch the sequel which came out 36 years after the original, and i fell is just as good if not better. love y'all have fun and take care of yourselves.
My Dad was a Royal Australian Air Force pilot in the 70s and 80s. He said he always found TG comical but cool. Pretty dangerous job at the time given how many were killed in training missions and collisions. I was born after he left the RAAF, probably a deliberate decision.
I served in the U.S. Navy for 11 years, and I was a jet engine mechanic on the F-14 and the F/A-18 at different times during my service, with the F-14, it normaly does not occur like it did with Goose, usually when we lost a plane, we lost our friends in pairs, when things go wrong, typically both get out sucessfully, or neither of them do, not singularily.
In the 80th this movie was a phenonomenon. The soundtrack was played really everywhere and everyone had Top Gun merchandise. And it made Tom Cruise a superstar. And he is until today.
Still one of my favourite childhood movies and as much as I like Top Gun Maverick the original is still the best in my eyes also you guys should check out the movie Days Of Thunder with Tom Cruise definitely another excellent movie
1. An old shipmate of mine was on the Enterprise when they filmed this. 2. Gooses death was not Maverick's fault. Iceman was bogarting his LOS approach and they got caught in the jet wash. 3. I spent 24 years in the US Navy. 6 on "bird farms" (Carriers). I have seen 1000+ launches and landings without a single crash. These men and women and the people working the flat tops are doing the most dangerous job in the world (for the good guys). Shout out😎 4. Kelly McGillis/Charlie was in a movie with Harrison Ford "Witness" that's seriously worth a first time/share HINT HINT 5. Tom Skerritt/Viper not only played Dallas in "Alien" he also played Strawberry in "Up in Smoke" with Cheech and Chong. 6. Val Kilmer/Iceman has a long list of movies including but not limited to: "Willow", "The Doors" and "Tombstone" 7. The officer(Goose) is the RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) radar, communications and navigation. 8. Onboard the ship the Squadron leader would not be smoking a cigar in that operation space. 9. Meg Ryan is my honey. A great overlooked movie with her is with Tom Hanks called "Joe vs the Volcano" She plays 3 parts. HINT HINT 10. Onboard the ship/aircraft all the perspiration is Hollywood(not the pilot). There is AC onboard. 11. The TOP GUN school is no longer located at Miramar near San Diego. It's now at NAS Fallon, NV. 12. In 1991 I was stationed on the USS INDEPENDENCE (CV-62) and they made a movie onboard called "Flight of the Intruder". It was seriously cool. Brad Johnson😇, Willem DeFoe and Danny Glover. I'm actually in it for a very brief period of time. HINT HINT. 13. Watching/sharing the new "Top Gun Maverick" is a must. The ariel work in that movie makes this one seems like they were practicing. Better yet, it has a plot/mission. (besides Navy recruitment). Fuel= JP5
4. It's insane that Tom Cruise's best (only) romantic chemistry was with a lesbian who reportedly did not like him. (Not even his wife, dude.) 6. I don't know if you're just listing his movies, or your favorites, or whatever, but IMO his best movie is "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang." So goddamn funny (and I can't believe it seems to be under the radar like it is; it's reportedly the movie that clinched RDJ being Tony Stark.) 10. They turned off the AC because it was too loud and was ruining the takes.
What I didn't like about this film was him throwing Goose's dog tags into the ocean...that should have went to his son or at least his wife. And..man I can't imagine his wife not blaming Maverick at least until the facts came in. Everyone knew his reputation. Her character was a bit of a hippy though.. Tom's character in this was so much better than that unrealistic soup sandwich he played in A Few Good Men. He pissed me off throughout most of that film. By the way, check out Fighter Fling on here. You'll enjoy it. You probably already know about it though. The Final Countdown is a very interesting film as well.
First of all, regarding the dogtag throw, he was "Letting him go". Secondly, everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. With help from Iceman bogarting the approach Mavrick couldn't have done anything.@@wheelmanstan
Some people like to speculate about Tom Cruise being gay. Personally, I think he's asexual. Kelly McGillis is gay. It is insane to me that the only time Tom Cruise has ever had legit romantic/sexual chemistry with another actor was with Kelly McGillis, not just because she's gay but also reportedly she and Tom didn't like each other. (Tom has been in movies with his own wife, and this is the only one where he's had romantic/sexual chemistry. Wild.)
Many of the shots are actually filmed with actual jets (practical effects), with actors being in the jets (not flying of course, they're sitting behind). Tom Cruise eventually got his pilot license after this movie. Top Gun is already an excellent classic film, but the sequel is hell a lot better. U ladies won't be disappointed.
11:36 I bought my first motorbike after watching this movie. I was 21 yrs old. And YES. The ladies loved them. I've had one ever since. I still get looks. Though at 58, sadly, not so much for me anymore, but for the bike. tee hee !!!
Nice to see the gorgeous Lia & the beautiful Viki!😊 I hope you ladies will be watching the very well-made sequel after this. Goose dying was very unexpected and sad.😭 Great reactions to the original classic Top Gun, Ladies!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏
How can they see other planes? Generally pilots are weeded out for bad eye-sight, so many have perfect 20-20 or even 20-10. Chuck Yeager was well known in his WWII squadron for his incredible eyesight, being able to see enemy fighters miles further out than his wingmen. Also, aircraft tend to glint in the sun as the light reflects off their uneven surfaces. While this can be mitigated a bit with paint schemes, the cockpit canopy is still an unavoidable weakness in this. Finally, pilots are trained to always scan the sky for collision possibilities, and fighter pilots are trained to gain eyes on the target and make every move possible to avoid losing sight of the enemy. Once you lose sight of them you're likely going to lose the fight.
I remember when Top Gun was released back in the day. We a;ll loved it, the soundtrack as well. This time around I enjoyed it even better experiencing it again, only this time with you two lovely ladies. Liking those super, sexy Euro accents. Can't wait for more "Homies" reactions. Love ya. Mean it. Big shoutout from your guy in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. U.S.A. Peace. Later.
So those of us from the original-release era kind of hold our breath when we see today's audiences watch movies like this for the first time. Will they like it? Do we like it only for nostalgia's sake, or is it a timeless movie? I think it is everything you want in a movie, even if it will never make a Top Ten or anything like that. Sure the. movie is "old" but the themes should resonate with anyone with a heart- and maybe it shows that in this modern world we're all still pretty much the same down inside.
I WAS THE ONE... I told Tom he should make this movie! I did. I'm not lying! In fact, I had my RV parked on the runway in or near Mirimar! Y-e-a-h... That's it. Parked on the runway. I said Tom, I have an idea. Let's go flying! And that's why he has a P-51 today. Cause I sold it to him after I completely rebuilt the thing. I bought it for $1.00 back in 1962. Y-e-a-h! Ahem, good movie ladies. Nice reaction! 😂❤
The Navy's Strike Fighter Weapons School, Top Gun, was started in 1969 in response to the poor performance of American pilots verses çommunist pilots in the Vietnam War. Kill ratios had 12:1 but dropped to under 4:1 in Vietnam. A report issued in 68 indicated the needed for improved training.
No, it was only a dye. WW2 pilots carried shark repellant that doubled as dye as they might be in the water for hours, but that was discontinued in the 60s as too expensive given helicopters could be overhead in minutes.. A repellant that only spreads out a few feet is useless, the shark moves fast enough it would be in bite range before the repellent ever registered. They rely on the noise and chaos of the airplane crashing into the water to scare fish away, and since fish are the shark's normal food, the sharks would follow the fish. By the time blood in the water triggered a shark the crews would be out of the water by the time the shark turned and tracked the source.
I still love the F-14. It certainly had faults, especially the first ones, the A variant. Engines were never supposed to be used for fighters, and using bomber engines cost lives. But it was a very adaptable aircraft, and "Bombcats" could even do ground attack, and the F-14 was designed as a pure fleet-defense interceptor.
Director, Ridley Scott....for the win! Great directing. Great, awesome aerial combat scenes and camerawork. Loved the use of mountains and sunsets/sunrises. The sound of the movie, if you have a good home subwoofer and system is terrific as well.
That was really cool to see you get into the movie so much and enjoy it the same way we did back when it came out. This movie was virtually a disaster until some brilliant editing made it into the amazing movie it is today. Loved watching your perception of it! You will love the sequel. It does as good a job as any sequel ever has at tying up all the lose ends from this movie.
The incident around Goose’s death are based on real events the F14 was notorious for going into a flat spin when it lost power to one of the engines (asymmetric thrust is a killer) the procedure for jettisoning the canopy prior to ejection was also changed to ensure that ejecting crews would not bump into it on their way out something that also did happen

Ladies if you enjoyed "top gun". recommend you watch" the final countdown".a nuclear power aircraft carrier goes through a storm at sea, and is back in time, one day before the peral harbor attack.
The US Air Force has lots of female fighter pilots. Would you ladies like to be fighter pilots? I know Viki could do it, because I've seen how athletic she is in her dancing videos.
you girls liked this, then checkout the 1990 movie, Firebirds, with Nicolas Cage and Tommy Lee Jones, really good, and 1 for all of you never seen before, if you liked this 1 you it and the 3 Iron Eagle movies
You omitted the some of the best scenes on the movie. Not sure if you like Anime but there's the Macross Plus anime that copied this movie but also the new movie Top Gun: Maverick also mostly copied the anime including numerous characters too. Anyway also react to the HISHE(How It Should Had Ended) to this movie too.

Rule #1: Never interrupt two ladies when they're burning with desire for Tom Cruise in Top Gun. They WILL hurt you.
I love this as much as I love the sequel. The action is awesome and it launched Tom Cruise's carreer as an action pack dude.
Top Gun: Maverick is a perfect Sequel... Everything you love about Top Gun is there (plus more).
I knew Viki was going to shatter my soul during Goose's death, yet I watched anyway.

Cheap trick-mighty wings
Now to watch the incredible SEQUEL! 😎
32:47 Mav without sunglass,32:48 Mav with sunglass. This guy is a real flash!!!
Did you know that green stuff that was around Maverick and Goose after that tragic accident was shark repellent?
i was not aware of that; i thought it was dye to make them more visible from the air. very cool
If you girls loved this one you’ll love its sequel. Totally worth waiting 30 years for.
The guy who was the replacement backseater after Goose died is the same actor who was the safecracker in the first "Die Hard" movie.
LOL! Did they just say, "Yep, yep - Meow, meow?!
After this film, enlistment in the US Navy skyrocketed!
Ya its such a great 80s film. The remake is pretty good as well with even wilder flying than the first one.
Director, Ridley Scott....for the win!
Great directing. Great, awesome aerial combat scenes and camerawork. Loved the use of mountains and sunsets/sunrises.
The sound of the movie, if you have a good home subwoofer and system is terrific as well.
It was Tony not Ridley Scott.
Val kilmer is so handsome it's so sad he got cancer but he still looks good
RIP Tony Scott, and thank you for this masterpiece
Like landing on a stamp in the ocean. Top Gun was at NAS Miramar in San Diego, Ca,
Love TOP GUN
and TOP GUN 2 is masterpiece ❤
As a former military combat pilot, great reaction ladies!
"What I'm about to tell you is, G14 classified."
Great movie, sequel is pretty good also. Love you reactions ladies!
As good as this movie is, the sequel is even better. You should absolutely watch Maverick next while this one is still fresh in your minds.
Top Gun Maverick soon NEXT???
They would love An Officer and A Gentleman 1982.
You two will love the sequel 😁😏😉 Trust me, you got to watch it, Viki and Lia! 😄👍👌
Been watching this flick since it came out. I get chocked up every time Goose dies.
Best recruitment ad in the history of the US Navy and a staple of growing up in the 1980s ...
Maverick is flying with Merlin at the end.
Before watching the new Top Gun movie, watch the comedy parody called HOT SHOTS! (1991) ... It's a spoof of this movie and quite silly :D
28:33 Yeah really. How can BOTH catapults be broken?
Fun fact: when maverick and charlie were arguing in the street Tom Cruise forgot his line and improved the kiss between he and kelly.
Cool movie. The sequel is a must watch!
19:08 "oh no!" 😮😢
Just wait until you see the sequel! It's one of those rare movies that actually manages to be better than the first one.
Another great Tom Cruise movie all of you should react to is "Rain Man" (1988).
Vicky and Lia good to see you girls ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It is said that "Any landing you can walk away from is a good one." Maybe you could have done better, but still being alive is good enough.
Maverick just want serve my country be the best fighter pilot in the Navy Sir !!
Maverick thank you sir
Maverick we are gonna have a good time
You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips
And there's no tenderness like before in your fingertips
You're trying hard not to show it
But baby, baby I know it
You lost that lovin' feelin'
Whoa, that lovin' feelin'
You lost that lovin' feelin'
Now it's gone, gone, gone, whoa-oh
Now there's no welcome look in your eyes when I reach for you
And now you're starting to criticize little things I do
It makes me just feel like crying
'Cause baby, something beautiful's dyin'
You lost that lovin' feelin'
Whoa, that lovin' feelin'
You lost that lovin' feelin'
Now it's gone, gone, gone, whoa-oh
Baby, baby, I'd get down on my knees for you
If you would only love me like you used to do, yeah
We had a love, a love, a love you don't find everyday
So don't, don't, don't, don't let it slip away
Baby, baby, baby, baby
I beg you please, please, please, please
I need your love, need your love
I need your love, I need your love
So bring it on back, so bring it on back
Bring it on back, bring it on back
Bring back that lovin' feelin'
Whoa, that lovin' feelin'
Bring back that lovin' feelin'
'Cause it's gone, gone, gone
And I can't go on, whoa-oh
Bring back that lovin' feelin'
Whoa, that lovin' feelin'
Bring back that lovin' feelin'
'Cause it's gone, gone, gone

Ladies if you enjoyed "top gun". recommend you watch" the final countdown".a nuclear power aircraft carrier goes through a storm at sea, and is back in time, one day before the peral harbor attack.
Great action movie, so glad you two are watching and enjoying this popular film.
Viki, I am a dedicated Fan of yours 🙂 Too bad I am 25-years older than you (and married) ☹
By the way Viki, if it helps you consider, and you don't mind older men, I did go to the U.S. Air Force Academy (and everything still works 100%) 😉
The US Air Force has lots of female fighter pilots. Would you ladies like to be fighter pilots? I know Viki could do it, because I've seen how athletic she is in her dancing videos.
#JustNoticed the helicopter landing, and Hollywood running across the deck. Better 37 years late than never.
This made a generation of American boys want to become Naval Aviators.
Now, Top Gun Maverick.
80s movies never miss a beat.
"Now, HEY GUYS!"
I can't wait to see your reaction to Top Gun: Maverick (2022)!
Poor Vicki.goose hit that canopy at100 mph,it broke goode,s neck and killed him.
After this movie you have watch Hot Shots, a hilarious parody of Top Gun.
Can't wait for you to see Maverick Top Gun 2
Viki, you almost broke me when you broke. I don't like seeing you cry and/or being sad.
you girls liked this, then checkout the 1990 movie, Firebirds, with Nicolas Cage and Tommy Lee Jones, really good, and 1 for all of you never seen before, if you liked this 1 you it and the 3 Iron Eagle movies
BTW, I believe they will make Top Gun 3 (someday) 🤓
Can’t wait to see your reaction of the sequel
Was on a carrier when this came out, we laughed
R.I.P. Goose😭
The ironic thing about the casting here is that Kelly McGillis is gay, so the chemistry between her and Tom Cruise was really good acting.
I always thought it would have been better if Kelly McGillis & Meg Ryan switched roles.
Noone knew she was gay when the film came out. Would have ruined it. Lol
I hadn't idea Kelly McGillis is Lesbian
She married her second husband in 1989 and had 2 kids with him before divorcing in 2002.
Tom Cruise gets the attention of the ladies but Tom Skerit was a handsome dude. haha
Remember the General's daughter's name!
Such a cool movie...
Watch hot shots (1991) after this, I bet you will die laughing
Great hair cut it looks beautiful
You omitted the some of the best scenes on the movie. Not sure if you like Anime but there's the Macross Plus anime that copied this movie but also the new movie Top Gun: Maverick also mostly copied the anime including numerous characters too. Anyway also react to the HISHE(How It Should Had Ended) to this movie too.
Ladies great Review. Now you need to watch top gun: Maverick
You girls need to watch the new Top Gun: Maverick if you havent already seen it
