It also helps to take out the transmission mount and use a jack to raise or lower the trans to get extra clearance. If you jack the trans all the way up you can get a 3/8" impact back there to take the up pipe bolts out.

Wish I would have known that! it would have been nice when pulling the turbo. Thing is heavy and in such a tight area!

    A couple additional/amplified points...
IMO the heat shields hands down are the worst part. They suck. Get some fiberglass exhaust wrap and some metal zip ties/cable ties or whatever they are called when you are done before you put the up pipes back up and You're good to go. I double wrapped mine, each time with 50% overlap.
I applied pb blaster 2 or 3 times a day for 3 days prior to this job and the bolts came off with the perfect torque applied to them initially.
If your truck has a lot of miles, go ahead and replace ALL hardware from dealership, liberal anti seize applied when reinstalling hardware, and may be a good idea to replace up pipes as well before the bellows blow out.

apparently a 14HR book time job that even pros hate on , have FP reg code , which I'm thinking might as well do the whole CP3 and the turbo is sticking as well so thinking once I'm in there may do all 3 jobs

I just removed my turbo on my 07 lmm. I took the egr cooler off. I did manage to get the turbo out with the driver up pipe still on. The hardest part was getting the down pipe out. I had to remove the transmission dip stick. It was tricky job for sure I can’t believe how many things to remove just to get to one thing..ha.. What caused your turbo to go out?

I wish I had the EGR out!! Lucky! But with that off you can easily get your hands behind the turbo, fought the truck for hours. But I think turbo is still good have it back in and truck is no different, if you refer to the video I made about a P0299 code that is the issue I’m after. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it, stuck at the moment. Thanks for the comment!

@@toughonstuff6211 p0299 is supercharger under boost code. I’m thinking you might have a boost leak somewhere. Check that y pipe connection in front of turbo. The two o rings are known for leaking and getting loose. Or get a boost leak kit and try to locate it.

@@toughonstuff6211 guys on here are rebuilding the turbo insides. A plate inside gets rusted stuck. I also got a tip to un bolt the back of the cab and jack it up for extra space.

You might be referring to the unison ring. If so there’s a how to I think on duramax forum that shows how to rebuild or clean exhaust side housing, which was what I did. Had the guy run a new tune on the truck tested it out last night ran amazing, but hopefully not a fluke going to try it out again today. If so I will make a follow up video if I can get the information out of him on what the matter was with tune. Nonetheless still a hassle to remove turbo!
