When my dear old Mum was still alive, she'd have that once a fortnight as it was faster and easier - and a LOT cheaper - than going to the fish and chip shop. Good review, Deano!
Aren't the Birdseye fish at Iceland in the ten for £10 deal at the minute, along with the peas and aunt bessy chips? I'm sure you get two cod in the boxes as well so yeah for all this is convenient it might be a bit pricy when you could probably knock 2 up for a bit less
I agree with you and I get your issue price-wise but for convenience (as you said) AND for a person on their own it's briiiant. Thank you so much for making this clip and sharing....Oh and the water in the peas compartment was deliberately put there to stop the peas drying out...altogether a wonderful, carefully, thought out idea from Birdseye....
Greetings from the United States. Thanks for sharing your video with us out in youtube land. I found your video a bit humorous in the sense that whatever food company produced that product decided for some reason to promote Clarence Birdseye to a ship's captain! Their silly caricature of his face on their box is hilarious. If you haven't had a chance to read about Mr. Birdsye, you should check him out. I'm not sure about in the U.K., but in America he is widely credited with starting the frozen food industry with his unique fast freezing inventions. Too bad that Clarence never knew that he had been promoted to a ship's captain! Thanks again for the video.
Thanks for that Delano. I live in Australia and I have never heard of this product, but I will have a look and see if I can get it. It looks pretty good.
I've subscribed ; lol brilliant I'd rather listen and learn to be fair genuine to you. It's more honest and fun, and the older I get I do like a bargain. 😊
To be honest Deano I will not buy frozen battered fish ever again at various times I have tried these so called fish and chips shop frozen efforts and the fish has never been anywhere near fish shop quality so however much it costs it's a no no from me, I'll get fish cakes instead.
I guessed at £3.99 before you mentioned the price, as it was from Sainsbury. Would it be cheaper at Iceland, Asda or Tesco? Would I buy this meal, not really. Think I would buy individually and heat accordingly. Thanks for trying this so we don't have to. Still enjoying the Birds Eye 4 for £5 deal in Morrisons. Choice isn't as great as the Back to Scholl deal they had in September, but if you can get 4 packs of Chicken Quarter Pounders for a fiver, I am well happy. That translates to 8 meals spaced out over months as they are frozen. Edit: I notice that you have almost as many views as subs, that is amazing.
I think my dad was the only Yorkshire man who never had vinegar!!!❤ I've never liked vinegar or fermented food ❤😊. But that food looks great ❤😊 have a great day Deano ❤
4x Birds Eye cod are £6.50 on the south coast. 2x Bachelors mushy peas for £1.50 and a 900g bag of Birds Eye crispy chips for £2.50 brings the total to £10.50. So it's just over £2.60 a portion but you get to cook it how you want. You could knock a quid off if you bought Youngs but I don't know where you're buying cod for £2.50 a box. On a side note, the Birds Eye frozen chips are all I will buy now after finding them in October and even though nobody will give deep frying instructions these days, I drop them in for 5 to 6 minutes and they're delicious everytime.
I'm not sure on this one for frozen peas & chips etc.. you can get a small fresh fish special with chips and sauce in my local chippy for £5 ... I think on this occasion for the freshness alone I'd rather stick an extra £1.50 to it and have it fresh plus hot and on the spot ❤❤
@geordiejones2 to be honest it's probably more than that now as I've not been in there for a long time and it's only a lunch time special on certain days also, lol. I should really check and see how much it is now but still, I think I'd rather throw an extra couple of quid in (just in this one instance, Deano knows I like him) rather than wait 40 mins for frozen 🤗
@@beckscroft18 Very true, and you just can not beat proper fish and chips from the chippy, especially if cooked in beef dripping (in my humble opinion) Chris.
£3.50 good price. That looked lovely, better than the price of what you have to pay at the fish n chip shop. Mmmmm my 2nd bestie told me about putting mint sauce in the mushy peas and what a game changer.
they have been very secret for weight of each of the 3 items. the fish is formed for £3.50 with that it is expensive. not sure there worth half that cost. you should have weighted the cooked fish then the chip portion. ASDA 4 Breaded Cod Fillets 440g £3.75. or Young's Chip Shop 4 Omega 3 Fish Fillets 400g £3.75 there are cheaper fish portions.
Perfect for a single lad would of liked mushy peas . A piece of cod in Lidl about £2.50 . Hate using the oven for 35 mins .that's a tight Yorkshire lad
I really don't like pre battered fish like this. It's nothing like a proper fish from the chippy. BUT I will occasionally get from Lidl the chunky battered cod portions. Give them a go. I think they cost about £4.30 for 4 pieces. Make sure they are the battered and chunky ones. You can get them in haddock too
Another great review Deano. But I do think these "convenience" products are overpriced. if you buy each constituent component separately and cooked them individually i.e. air fry the fish and chips then microwave or boil some peas. I think the total cost would be nearer £2. BTW I too would never use garden peas with fish and chips, it must always be mushy peas with a teaspoon of mint sauce.
Peas looked half decent.Captain Birdseye is a silly old .... who doesn't know one end of a fish from the other and is about as slimy as an eel in my opinion.lf you ever venture into Otley, West Yorkshire l recommend you visit Maypole fisheries, you will be pleasantly surprised 👍.
Got to be honest I thought this looked ok to be fair Deano. I’m on my Jack so if I get in from work late one night and want something quick that would be ideal ….Smithy
What I have noticed about most of the foods you review is that they are incredibly high in fat which isnt very healthy. Recently looking for fat free food for my husband who has gallstones I have found it really hard to find low fat foods, so I cook most things from scratch. Food companies are out to make a profit, they do it as cheaply as possible. Look after your health. X
I won't bother it's an expensive gimmick just buy the things separately and you will get a lot more for your money that meal would be okay for school kids an OAP who don't eat much but on the plus side it's still a lot cheaper than calling at a fish and chip shop
i tried to see that but could not see the weight on the side of the box shown. but you also have the vague % of the items. i think 150g for peas and chips each and a 100g for the fish. just looking at the small size of it. 2 small 200g youngs fish is around £1.09 and that taste good.
Aye mushy peas are best, i buy the bag of frozen mushy peas from herons 89p makes about 20 portions like you'd get from the chippy, proper, give them a go !!!
Thanks!

I remember having to peel peas when I was a kid ❤😊
Don't you mean shell peas?
Yep 50 years ago sat on my grans backdoor step peeling fresh peas and eating one straight out of the pod. Nowt frozen then
I bet that didn't peas u?!

I love birdseye's products ❤😊we had them in New Zealand you guys have different food in the UK it's always interesting to see ❤😊🎉
ripping the punters off now like bisto and heinz
The fish looks yummy 😋❤
If that’s yummy to you then you have never eaten anything that tastes great. Straight out of a deep-fryer that fish tastes of nothing but cooking oil
4 Birdseye battered cod portions are £6.60 in Tesco.
two quid in lidls
Looks lovely quick meal x
I wish we could get that in the USA ❤😊

We have Birdseye here in Aystralia
Ive had that before and its well nice, thanks for sharing another 👍 food review video!!!
It's a 'can't be arsed' meal. Nothing wrong with that.
cooked by a can't be arsed vlogger.

Good to see captain birdseye still doing nice food.... Longtime brand 👍👍👍
Aldis battered cod or haddock is good. And I'm a fussy Yorkshire lad
Not a bad price for cod.i buy birds eye frozen chips and they are nice
You put me in mind of Philip Harben, a tv cook in the 1950’s.
4x Birds Eye cod are £6.50 on the south coast. 2x Bachelors mushy peas for £1.50 and a 900g bag of Birds Eye crispy chips for £2.50 brings the total to £10.50. Bit sad when you cannot do fish n chip from raw ingredients. Look what you doing .
looks like a childs meal
Birds eye now use fish fillets instead of the fresh cod. Their products taste awful.
they have been very secret for weight of each of the 3 items.
the fish is formed for £3.50 with that it is expensive. not sure there worth half that cost.

I normally air fry the cod…… my plate cod, wedges, peas, beans, mush potatoes, 🤤
Arghh! 'Captain Fishy-the man with the fishy fingers'! (anyone remember?).
Good value for money
Nice video thanks 😊
Perfect for a single lad would of liked mushy peas . A piece of cod in Lidl about £2.50 . Hate using the oven for 35 mins .that's a tight Yorkshire lad
You're calculation is spot on..cheaper to buy separately..single folk. Ok..sadly I must drown fish in tomato sauce..
Looked good to me !
I thought that was a really nice meal and £3.50 for the convenience is great
More like a hospital meal or old people's home but nothing like fish and chips at the seaside ❤
No but a third of the price and made for convenience.
I really don't like pre battered fish like this. It's nothing like a proper fish from the chippy. BUT I will occasionally get from Lidl the chunky battered cod portions. Give them a go. Good review as usual. The price is because it is Birdseye IMO, still it looked tasty. I think Kershaw meals are £2.50
I give kershaws 7 out of ten tasty and with mushys for couple of quid
£ 3.50 is robbery , Kershaw's meals are £2.00 or any 5 for £7.50
This is so delicious 😊 nice tasty and worth buying,
How can Fish & Chips ever be delicious considering that straight out of a deep-fryer the only flavour that comes through is that of cooking oil?.
You should take it out the plastic container to cook it as it realises harmful chemicals when heated
Great marketing by birdseye's ❤😊

What happened to the m+s mould boxed roast dinner looks ok boxed fish and chips
I guessed at a fiver !
Looks ok. But as you said buy fish, chips and peas separate better value for money.
Rather buy a proper bag of chips, garden peas and fish. The leftovers will get you another meal or two at least out of your investment.
