Divina Ammira I understand that stereotypes do play a role. It was much more to do with my skin tone in combination with my hair/color, rather then just those alone. I have learned a lot more about population migration since taking this test. I was freeking out because I FINALLY got to know something I have been wondering most of my life. I can guarantee being Irish and having brown hair and brown eyes is common. I do not know why you are freaking out so much. Brown/black hair and eyes are spread in all Europe, Sweden, Norway, Iceland... included. Like blonde/red hair and green/blue/grey eyes are common in Southern Europe. Maybe stereotypes do not help in understanding this... Anyways, nothing that surprising in your genes: you look like any European, and in fact you are European. ^_^

..... I don't understand why people are being so rude. Like why can't she be surprised? it's clear she and multiple others thought she had more of a hispanic/latina background. She was just surprised by the amount of irish. That's actually quite a lot to have from just one (heritage). And she really never knew her biological father's background. So that part of her was unknown. I can understand her excitement, being black, and not even having a clue at ALL of what country/countries I come from. I think it's a beautiful thing to finally know your ethnicity and know where your family roots are from.

Yes, Iberian Peninsula is Spain and Portugal. :) The way they test the DNA could be anything that was settled by those countries as well, for example could be Brazilian, but mostly others from Central or South America have both Iberian Peninsula AND Native American. I don't know what that means for me since I don't have Native American. But it is supposed to get more specific as time goes on and more people do it.
TheEagals Nest Native American ancestry usually shows up as Asian on these tests because not many Native Americans have tested and they were originally from Asia. As you said, in the future the tests will get more specific.

My highest percentage was Irish too, 20%! Woohoo, luck o' the Irish! I basically got 78% European, 18% Native American (my mum got 40% though), 3% African and 1% West Asia.

The traces from the Iberia peninsula could be connected to your Irish because the Celtic are the original people of the Iberian peninsula. They migrated from there to Ireland thousands of years ago. That's why a great many Irish people have dark features and are dubbed as "black Irish."

Your wrong Celtics don't have dark features like black hair and brown eyes with tanned skin there mostly stereotyped as redheads with pale freckley skin even if what you're saying is true than how did i end up with freckles ( mine are genetic so there not caused by the sun ) and light olive skin and darkbrown reddish hair with platinum streak I'm American of Mexican descent .

This proves not all Whites or Europeans are not from Northern Europe as many in America think. Many hate the idea of having Spanish in their blood because they might get the Hispanic label. Yet, that label doesn't apply to Spaniards, since Hispaniola was part of U.S and South America. It was a region, not a group of people. More like a melting pot of people, much like the United States.
Spaniards are the first and real hispanics.If mexicans are called hispanic because their first language and most of them have Spanish blood.The way that Americans see the word Hispanic is wrong.They thought that hispanic is more relationed with indigenous traits,when indigenous of Latín America are not hispanic or latino and calling them like that could be disrespetful for many of them.Only Americans did that.The intersting fact is that many Americans whose ancestors came from Latín América now think the same and many think that hispanic is a race.

My moms side I am British welsh French Irish and the only two things I know of on my dads side are Italian and German but I have never met him so I can't ask him what else he is... So I'm going to ask my mom for this test and I'm going to do it

Ever taken a good look a good look at Colin Farrell? The Corrs (musical family)? Tons of brunettes in Ireland. Tons. If you want to know part Irish actresses who have dark hair: Michaela Conlin, Jennifer Connelly, Jennifer Beals, Samantha Mumba, etc. I could go on and on. Your shock caused me to respond, even though I know this is almost 10 months old. :)
Just FYI most Irish people have about a third Iberian blood in them. Iberia is off the coast of spain and was divided by mountains from the rest of europe so they had many many years of peace. Some of them migrated to ireland hence the iberian blood.
I like to do this to, but my parents won't let me... The only thing i know is that i'm Spanish and Dutch.

The celts were actually known for having dark hair and eyes before the vikings started raiding Ireland.
You look more Moroccan, that explains the 18% Iberian Peninsula. Spain, Portugal and Morocco have more or less similar traits.

I do agree with you. But, Moroccans are a mixed breed of berbers, arabs and other races. You would find people having different facial features all over Morocco. As for your comment about me, I am Moroccan. The darker skin probably gave it away.

Most people from the British Isles get genes from the Iberian Peninsula, as this is where native britons are thought to come from. In fact, British and Irish are among the closest populations to Spanish people.

I was pretty wild and promiscuous back then and I heard I have other children out there I never met yet. I was not as bad as my father though, he had 36 children.

The skin tone is probably because you are "black Irish", a term that applies to ancestors who survived the wreck of the Spanish armada. All those good looking young sailors washed up on the shores of Ireland and intermarried. Look at the dance shoes worn by Irish dancers... they are flamenco shoes from Spain.
Irish whose ancestors pre-date English conquest of the island are direct descendants of early settlers who migrated from Northern Spain. Spain is Iberian. That's why you have Iberian and Irish DNA in you. I don't know where you got your large nostrils from, race doesn't always explain stereotypes.

TheEagals Nest haha, funny you say that. I actually was shocked, being 46% irish. Funny you say that some people thought you were hispanic, i had the same thing happen with me. I thought for sure i would have no spanish blood and sure enough i do. I was also surprised that i was only a small fraction italy/greece cause i grew up in an "italian style" household. anyway, thanks for sharing your results, i felt a strange connection when you began to read your results. best of luck to you and your husband! beannacht!

I've seen a few of these videos and have got the impression that they should have been more informative. Saying x% british doesn't mean much because the UK is a mix of german, celtic, scandinavian which are already in the results. So saying 10% british then saying 20% scandinavian or German is a bit of a fudge.
Lumping Italy/Greece together is not granular enough because the northern Italians are Celts and the southern italians are of Greek ancestry.
chinacane Valid points. i have actually heard 23andme are more accurate with how they determine European ancestry, so I am thinking about taking that one as well.
TheEagals Nest I would look into who is telling you they are more accurate before you spend your money. They may not know what they are talking about. This is a complex subject.
From what I understand, the more samples they have from the area they way your ancestors are from the more accurate there results.
I don't know exactly how these tests work, but if they say, you have ancestry from western europe, do they say when?

And if you take into account that irish genotype comes from celtics from the north of spain, you are a lot from the iberian peninsula. I now facial features are not reliable evidence but I you were in Spain nobody would think you are from country
