Yamiks, as an equally-nitpicky aircraft maintainer, some of the nitpicks you have about this ship's design trigger the fuck outta me lol. The Mamba is designed in a way that is heavily influenced by fighters. Multiple nozzles are there for laminar flow. It's why the part in the aft center isn't an engine. The thruster exhausts are intentionally kept separated to prevent exhaust turbulence. And what you call a "capsule" is called an injection molded canopy. As you admit, it's designed in such a way that it provides as much visibility as possible. That's why it sits sort of "on top" of the ship frame. You couldn't be more wrong about it looking out of place. It's how any fighter style flying craft has been designed since WW2. Furthermore, you ask about the "trench." You joke about it being where the shitter is, but that's literally true in real-world aircraft. That area would have the crew entry ladder to access the ship, the galley, and maybe a simple cot for sleeping. Since the engines and likely equipment bays and other components would stick so far forward in a ship that is all ass, you'd have to go down a ladder into the fuselage area of the ship for crew living areas. Otherwise the structure above it would be too weak and thin.
Ok, but this thing is the size of small house, don't forget that. So it's not a compact bomber that needs to make the most out of space, why not put the crew compartments up in the "prongs"

Yes, but oddly, the Mamba would still loose, since in every race you sometimes are faced with curves - unless we are talking straight drag racing... where the Mamba would ALSO still oose, because -> iEagle/Viper MKIII.

I like the air intakes on the sides towards the front. Two reasons why they could be there: 1. For cooling (cars have this for cooling their breaks, performance cars that is) 2. For turbines/engines, like jets have them My point is, they really should think before pushing out designs. They don't have to be 100% realistic and by all means make the ship look cool, but don't put air intakes on a ship in a game where we don't even have air outside of the ship
You're forgetting that ships can have fuel scoops, and it's entirely possible that those vents are intended for the fuel scoop - if you decide to fit one, which you should if your ship is ever going to do more than jump back and forth between two or three systems.

Story wise, most of these ships are supposed to be atmospheric flight capable, we just don't have that function built into the game yet. Maybe those intakes open up in atmospheric flight mode to offer much better cooling? Or maybe it's just because the artist thought it'd look cool and has no idea about spaceships or anything else for that matter from an engineering perspective?

I know they ARE supposedly trying to make atmospheric landings at some point so it'd make sense that nearly all of the ships we have in game that are playable should be capable of atmospheric flight to some extent as well. Everything but the capital ships really should be planetary capable so long as the gravity isn't too high that it overcomes the ship's thrust to weight ratio.
It's a good looking ship chassis for sure, even though it's basically the FDL with the center fuselage cut out. It's performance is a bit lackluster, especially compared to its advertising. It's no racer though; not when every gutamaya ship can break 800M/S boost--even the CUTTER. It's like the FDL's hot sister: sleeker, sexier and higher maintenance, but not quite as competent at anything but looking good. It really should've been a small ship so it could have enhanced thrusters and compete with gutamaya's speedsters.
For those looking to make this a combat ship, I've learned some things through experimentation. If you put a cannon on the huge hardpoint (preferably fixed since it deals more than gimbaled if you can aim with it), gimbaled lasers on the large hardpoints and any weapons of your choosing on the small ones, and rely on speed rather than maneuverability to fight your opponents, it makes a pretty damn good space dive bomber. Careful around the more fighter-like ships though
Just got a mamba and I've come to the same conclusion. I'm running 2x large beam lasers (heat is a bit of a problem though), with 1x huge cannon and 2x small missile launchers. I have the lasers mapped to main fire with seconday unleashing everything else. Pretty good as a strafing, 'dive bomber' as you said. I only play PvE so I start my attack, boost away, FA-Off spin while in boost past the target, unload more lasers, rinse repeat until I can unload all the missiles and cannon fire they can take.
My kit includes an overcharged huge beam laser, four double-shot frag cannons, fast-charging low-power class-5 bi-weave shield, class-4 fuel scoop, class-3 FSD booster, a class-2 interdictor, and hull armor. It jumps 28 Ly, inhales stars without ever topping 60% heat, rips pirates from supercruise in seconds, chases them down if they run, strips shields from Cutters like they were wishful thinking with that Death Star superlaser, and shreds hull armor like it's made of wet toilet paper. Pure high-speed killing machine. Against small ships (and most medium ships), the laser is all you need to make them pop in seconds, and it rarely gets hot when using it. A purebred space superiority fighter, for the easiest bounty collecting ever, all while looking absolutely gorgeous and rocking more than twice the armor of a stock FDL. Drop into the local hazres, and hunt with impunity. After playing with it for a while, and engineering the thrusters, you soon get used to the maneuverability quirks & learn to love it. And that boost sound... oh yes... never gets old. It's an ambush predator. If you want a dogfighter, get a Vulture or FDL. The Mamba has the highest possible damage per second in the medium class, as well as the highest speed for that class. It delivers devastating hit & run blows, and can utterly dominate when making unpredictable high-speed jousting runs. If you bite off more than you can chew, an easy escape is just a boost or two away.
@@Terminator484 I totally agree with you. Too many people think combat is just turn rate battles with weapons. You can fight in many different ways that don't include pure manueverability. I had my ass chewed out by a FAS when I was running missions in a cobra because I couldn't avoid a jousting battle, but using the same cobra I was able to take down a corvette. (With 2 medium pulse lasers and 2 small launchers). Took nearly 40 minutes but, I finally got him. (Had to keep him on his yaw axis, in reverse while pitching down constantly, so that he could not rotate his nose to get me, and my guns were putting a little more than toothpick sized dings in their hull).
This ship's speed let's you decide when you want to be in combat, you never die as you can just boost away when your shields go down making it tactically better than FDL.
6:00 Dude, that's where the door to the rest of the ship goes! You said it yourself: the cockpit is too high compared to the ship. You'll also notice there's no door at the back of the cockpit. That's because the door to the rest of the ship is down there in the trench, easily visible.
I've been trying it out for a few days now and I really like it. I think this is going to be my bounty-hunting / salvage ship. Over 400 kph boost with un-engineered thrusters. Holy cow, this thing is fast. So that's great for getting into AND OUT of tough situations. I'm using beam lasers on all the hardpoints except the huge 4x one, where I'm using a multi-cannon. The only default item I changed was the shield, which was originally class 4. I swapped it with the class 5 cargo space and upgraded.
Tamiks I fly this ship most of the time as my primary fighting ship. The most important difference that I see between that and a fer-de-lance is that the top speed far out does the fer-de-lance once you have everything else installed. That being said the turn radius is slightly slower but it does streak away from any potential death situation

It's a hydroplane. In space. They go fast in a straight line too. Also dont turn. And have a habit of spontaneous combustion outside of the engine. It was too much shake and bake in beta, and it's still a solution looking for a problem now. It looks great, tho. It really does. If only it flew as good as it looked.
I sidewinder bombed myself back to the bubble to pick up one of these got it to 37.5 ly,s and headed back to colonia, got a lot of amazing photos on the way. Id say it was worth it to have it out here.
It also outguns most larger ships as it can fly out of almost any heavy engagement. People who can't find a niche for this ship shouldn't waste their time trying to think outside of the FDL box.
I used it for doing missions in Colonia, which is quite good. I can transport people and cargo and this is basically the fastest ship that's out there, so moving from point A to B (e.g. docking) saves me a lot of time.
When I look at the Mamba I'm reminded of hydroplane racing boats, they have the same kind of pontoon bow with cockpit. And I bought a Mamba, it's named Mystic. LOL
The ship needs atleast 2 more optional slots being as its larger than the FDL. Either a 4 & 5 or two 4's. Increased manoeuvring speed and a decrease in heat build up.
Yeah for sure even without any extra or diff module slots it should be wayyy more maneuverable than what it is...w 0 pips in engines you just get these lag spots where you're turning worse than a anaconda 😂 lol...I like to do hit n run tactics kind of like boom n zoom in a plane...it works aight like that, n in a wing it really shines when I open the engagement and run n let my 3 wingmates just eat em up from the back as they chase me lol
i like my mamba. i can fly backwards at the same speed that a large ship would try to chase me at, and i can just shoot it while flying backwards. i noticed that using it's speed to get outside of weapon ranges is the best thing to use it for. whenever i'm in trouble, i just boost and then all of a sudden nobody can even hit me because im too far away. how i play with my mamba: use speed to get out of weapon range whenever in a bad position. nobody can catch you. you can usually fly backwards with 4 pips in engines and still outspeed most ships flying forward at regular speed
poisenbery it’s barely 5% faster than the FDL and maneuvers 40% worse. Why bother with it when you could just get an FDL and get speed AND maneuverability? This ship has zero use. At all. It’s an abortion and a waste of dev time.
The problem i have with the zorgon flagships both the fdl and the mamba is the lack of internal compartments. I mean, think about this, the krait and python roughly same sized have 8-9 internal compartments. Ok do not give us large ones like class 6 or 5 but at least give us a few more class 3 and 2. Noone said that he would do trading in one of these.
I have actually done much trading with a Python. Best cargo space for M size landing pads, fast, maneuverable, good fire power. All purpose. Perfect for trading rare stuff where cargo space is not essential.
Maybe the middle thruster is for boosting? Also, maybe the trench is them getting ready for being able to walk around? Update coming soon! Space legs! (Or at least, maybe a scooter?)
I'd recommended that it be equipped with a size 7 distributor, but the response on the forums has been lukewarm at best, and outright rejections (it's fine as it is, you'll figure it out, no buff needed, etc) everywhere else. Size 6 makes sense in the FDL since it needs to save on space, but other ships with similar weapon draw like the Krait are equipped with size 7's. This would give it greater reserves of power, and let it support more powerful weapon mods to do more damage those few times you have it on target. It's lack of maneuverability is it's greatest drawback, but I don't think frontier are too keen on changing that.
Cool ship but you might as well get an FDL since it’s better. I was hopeful Fdevs would release a ship that rivals the fdl for the best PvP ship but neither the mamba nor the krait phantom do. I love my krait really wanted the Phantom to be the fdl killer but as with all new ships, Fdevs continues to disappoint. I really wish Fdevs would actually listen to the community and actually play their own game
@@Kyzrath The Phantom is actually classified as a multipurpose ship just like its bigger brother the Krait MkII. my hopes of the krait phathom being on par with the fdl predate it's release. As a Krait mkII owner and a pvper, i wanted to a faster, more maneuverable krait variant to pvp with.....
@@Ramses4821 - I've killed plenty of Fer-de-Lance ships (PvP) in my Krait MkII. I am a FA Off Pilot though. It's perfect in every way. My build is very unique and once I get my opponents shields down they, for the most part, run because one they hear *incoming missile* and *malfunction, malfunction* it's usually over for the most part. Sure the Meta PA/Rail is nice, but most PvP Commanders can't hit me with them so they're useless. If anyone is interested in my build please let me know. *o7!!*
Killing off all the existing PvP ships with something just better is a slippery slope, making every new thing just more and more outclassing the previous. Finding the slots for the new ships amongst the new ships instead of above them is the right choice, Fdev just do not do it very well.
@@MatchBreakers - I agree, creating a new, better OP ship will do nothing, but cause a new Meta and we'll be in the same boat as we are now. All ships should have their advantages and disadvantages. Sure, the FDL is amazing, but it can just as easily be beaten. Even the Mamba has potential in the right hands. Advantage is it's speed with it's small (very small) Disadvantage is lower manuverability.

I just realized that I don't think I have ever actually saw a Mambo in space. I'm sure I've been at least one in some showing off stuff at Jameson but I have never seen a npc or human actually flying one. I don't even recall myself ever trying one. I'm sure I have though. Your data is outdated, heat issues got fixed as far as i can tell and here is one big idea what the ship is: The ultimate speedbomber, designed to zoom in unleash the full ordnance load to get the kill and run for rearming. No other ship features the speed necessary for that task, with a high heat dissipation rate comparable to the mamba. 2 large torp tubes and twin disruption mines are nothing to sneeze at, backed up with one huge tool for the finishing blow.

Meanwhile the phantom is the sleeper hit of the update, and manages to do what it's actually supposed to do. Fly, turn, not cook and actually fight.

@@acrazedgunman3388 The MultiCrew truly is a boon for ordnance heavy loadouts. I like the Mamba since it is a platform for an ordnance heavy approach, with tons of speed and sturdy shields. That makes it just a big Viper, with a sleek silhouette. It won't outturn everything, but it has fitting agility to prolong turning, for the ordnance to take effect. Have you been Mambastruck? ;)
I really wouldn't have minded if the Mamba would have been a re-skinned Fer-de-Lance, because of the OCD-inducing cockpit (yes, I'm one of those guys). I am currently testing 1x C4 Plasma (Efficent), 2x C3 Gimbal Beams (Therma Vent / Long Range) and 2x C1 Gimbal Multicannons (Enhanced Ammo / Corrosive Shell). Works ok, but I still prefer the Chieftain or FAS. I think this Ship will be parked next to my "Piece of Ship", the Cobra MKIV. -_- As for the boost sound: the Mamba's boost is at least not as much of an ear-rape as the Krait MKII's - it really starts to annoy me after a while, which the Mamba didn't. Speaking of both the Krait MKII and OCD: the rear entrance of the Kraits really annoy me, too. The had it right in the first concept art -> ua-cam.com/video/cz5JVeOTv-8/v-deo.html , but then decided it needed some asymmetry to fcuck with the aesthetics.

a faster ship can dictate engagements, zoom in, boom enemy in the face, zoom outside the enemies range, turn and repeat. a helicopter can turn on a dime, but do you think that helps against a jet in a fight? nope
the way I see it the mamba is a sports car, its pretty and is fun to fly but in the end there are better options if you need it for anything other then going fast in a straight line or looking pretty.
A fun experiment Put a cobra right next to a mamba and looks alone compare the two. Sort of looks like a cobra with a big upgrade to engines. Too bad the mamba didn't have 1 slot larger jump drive and power drive / thrusters. That is all.
Around 5% faster than the fdl and around 40% less maneuverable (both engineered). the ever so slightly higher dps doesn't matter if you have less time on target. (the anemic vertical thrusters don't help either) and it has weaker shields, which matter MORE because you will have a harder time staying behind your target. *who thought this ship was a good idea?* What was the point of the beta if they didn't listen to any feedback? It flies like a multipurpose ship and has the internal space of a pure combat ship. this thing is pure garbage.
Honestly it's not the best performer, but it looks so good and feels so fun to fly with the speed, looks, sound and firepower that it doesn't matter. Just going to a hazrez to relax at the end of the day is great in it. Who cares if it's not the FDL, if it's fun it's good enough.
You should be able to boost this thing up to ~750. That's really the only way I can see it being viable. You could just smack on some PA or railguns or something and javelin people. I am pretty sure that was the plan all along, but it's just not fast enough to function that way reasonably.

Buff maneuverability but how much? 5/10? 7\10 max. Also not killing yourself with your own weapons would be cool, and I think heat should be managed in the ship but should definitely be easier if it has all this going against it. Maybe give it one extra internal compared to Fdl? Other than fixes I think it needs just a little push to differentiate it from Fdl, maybe have bigger power plant worse distributor or something along those lines. In concept and design I'm really excited for this one, but if the execution isn't there, its now worth hardly anyone's time.
I was sorely tempted by the Mamba but the loss of agility with negligible straight line speed gain just isn't worth it. In reality the "boom and zoom" combat techniques used by the Bf109 have long since past.

If you put a cannon on the huge hardpoint (preferably fixed since it deals more than gimbaled if you can aim with it), gimbaled lasers on the large hardpoints and any weapons of your choosing on the small ones, and rely on speed rather than maneuverability to fight your opponents, it makes a pretty damn good space dive bomber. Careful around the more fighter-like ships though
Just got a mamba and I've come to the same conclusion.
I'm running 2x large beam lasers (heat is a bit of a problem though), with 1x huge cannon and 2x small missile launchers.
I have the lasers mapped to main fire with seconday unleashing everything else.
Pretty good as a strafing, 'dive bomber' as you said.
I only play PvE so I start my attack, boost away, FA-Off spin while in boost past the target, unload more lasers, rinse repeat until I can unload all the missiles and cannon fire they can take.
My kit includes an overcharged huge beam laser, four double-shot frag cannons, fast-charging low-power class-5 bi-weave shield, class-4 fuel scoop, class-3 FSD booster, a class-2 interdictor, and hull armor. It jumps 28 Ly, inhales stars without ever topping 60% heat, rips pirates from supercruise in seconds, chases them down if they run, strips shields from Cutters like they were wishful thinking with that Death Star superlaser, and shreds hull armor like it's made of wet toilet paper. Pure high-speed killing machine. Against small ships (and most medium ships), the laser is all you need to make them pop in seconds, and it rarely gets hot when using it. A purebred space superiority fighter, for the easiest bounty collecting ever, all while looking absolutely gorgeous and rocking more than twice the armor of a stock FDL. Drop into the local hazres, and hunt with impunity. After playing with it for a while, and engineering the thrusters, you soon get used to the maneuverability quirks & learn to love it. And that boost sound... oh yes... never gets old.
It's an ambush predator. If you want a dogfighter, get a Vulture or FDL. The Mamba has the highest possible damage per second in the medium class, as well as the highest speed for that class. It delivers devastating hit & run blows, and can utterly dominate when making unpredictable high-speed jousting runs. If you bite off more than you can chew, an easy escape is just a boost or two away.

You can fight in many different ways that don't include pure manueverability.
I had my ass chewed out by a FAS when I was running missions in a cobra because I couldn't avoid a jousting battle, but using the same cobra I was able to take down a corvette. (With 2 medium pulse lasers and 2 small launchers).
Took nearly 40 minutes but, I finally got him. (Had to keep him on his yaw axis, in reverse while pitching down constantly, so that he could not rotate his nose to get me, and my guns were putting a little more than toothpick sized dings in their hull).

This ship's speed let's you decide when you want to be in combat, you never die as you can just boost away when your shields go down making it tactically better than FDL.
its less than 5% faster than the FDL fully engineered and around 40% less maneuverable. You couldn't be more wrong.
Or get the fdl and not need to run away because you're on your targets ass beacuse you can actually maneuver.

6:00 Dude, that's where the door to the rest of the ship goes! You said it yourself: the cockpit is too high compared to the ship. You'll also notice there's no door at the back of the cockpit. That's because the door to the rest of the ship is down there in the trench, easily visible.

I've been trying it out for a few days now and I really like it. I think this is going to be my bounty-hunting / salvage ship. Over 400 kph boost with un-engineered thrusters. Holy cow, this thing is fast. So that's great for getting into AND OUT of tough situations. I'm using beam lasers on all the hardpoints except the huge 4x one, where I'm using a multi-cannon. The only default item I changed was the shield, which was originally class 4. I swapped it with the class 5 cargo space and upgraded.
Tamiks I fly this ship most of the time as my primary fighting ship. The most important difference that I see between that and a fer-de-lance is that the top speed far out does the fer-de-lance once you have everything else installed. That being said the turn radius is slightly slower but it does streak away from any potential death situation

It's a hydroplane. In space. They go fast in a straight line too. Also dont turn. And have a habit of spontaneous combustion outside of the engine. It was too much shake and bake in beta, and it's still a solution looking for a problem now. It looks great, tho. It really does. If only it flew as good as it looked.

I sidewinder bombed myself back to the bubble to pick up one of these got it to 37.5 ly,s and headed back to colonia, got a lot of amazing photos on the way. Id say it was worth it to have it out here.
It outruns fighters, loaded. I'm sure a military-minded person can find a use for that.
It also outguns most larger ships as it can fly out of almost any heavy engagement. People who can't find a niche for this ship shouldn't waste their time trying to think outside of the FDL box.

I used it for doing missions in Colonia, which is quite good. I can transport people and cargo and this is basically the fastest ship that's out there, so moving from point A to B (e.g. docking) saves me a lot of time.
When I look at the Mamba I'm reminded of hydroplane racing boats, they have the same kind of pontoon bow with cockpit. And I bought a Mamba, it's named Mystic. LOL

i like my mamba. i can fly backwards at the same speed that a large ship would try to chase me at, and i can just shoot it while flying backwards.
i noticed that using it's speed to get outside of weapon ranges is the best thing to use it for. whenever i'm in trouble, i just boost and then all of a sudden nobody can even hit me because im too far away.
how i play with my mamba: use speed to get out of weapon range whenever in a bad position. nobody can catch you. you can usually fly backwards with 4 pips in engines and still outspeed most ships flying forward at regular speed
poisenbery it’s barely 5% faster than the FDL and maneuvers 40% worse. Why bother with it when you could just get an FDL and get speed AND maneuverability?
This ship has zero use. At all. It’s an abortion and a waste of dev time.
The problem i have with the zorgon flagships both the fdl and the mamba is the lack of internal compartments. I mean, think about this, the krait and python roughly same sized have 8-9 internal compartments. Ok do not give us large ones like class 6 or 5 but at least give us a few more class 3 and 2. Noone said that he would do trading in one of these.
I have actually done much trading with a Python. Best cargo space for M size landing pads, fast, maneuverable, good fire power. All purpose. Perfect for trading rare stuff where cargo space is not essential.

I'd recommended that it be equipped with a size 7 distributor, but the response on the forums has been lukewarm at best, and outright rejections (it's fine as it is, you'll figure it out, no buff needed, etc) everywhere else. Size 6 makes sense in the FDL since it needs to save on space, but other ships with similar weapon draw like the Krait are equipped with size 7's. This would give it greater reserves of power, and let it support more powerful weapon mods to do more damage those few times you have it on target. It's lack of maneuverability is it's greatest drawback, but I don't think frontier are too keen on changing that.
Cool ship but you might as well get an FDL since it’s better. I was hopeful Fdevs would release a ship that rivals the fdl for the best PvP ship but neither the mamba nor the krait phantom do. I love my krait really wanted the Phantom to be the fdl killer but as with all new ships, Fdevs continues to disappoint. I really wish Fdevs would actually listen to the community and actually play their own game

@@Kyzrath The Phantom is actually classified as a multipurpose ship just like its bigger brother the Krait MkII. my hopes of the krait phathom being on par with the fdl predate it's release. As a Krait mkII owner and a pvper, i wanted to a faster, more maneuverable krait variant to pvp with.....
@@Ramses4821 - I've killed plenty of Fer-de-Lance ships (PvP) in my Krait MkII. I am a FA Off Pilot though. It's perfect in every way. My build is very unique and once I get my opponents shields down they, for the most part, run because one they hear *incoming missile* and *malfunction, malfunction* it's usually over for the most part. Sure the Meta PA/Rail is nice, but most PvP Commanders can't hit me with them so they're useless. If anyone is interested in my build please let me know. *o7!!*
Killing off all the existing PvP ships with something just better is a slippery slope, making every new thing just more and more outclassing the previous. Finding the slots for the new ships amongst the new ships instead of above them is the right choice, Fdev just do not do it very well.
@@MatchBreakers - I agree, creating a new, better OP ship will do nothing, but cause a new Meta and we'll be in the same boat as we are now. All ships should have their advantages and disadvantages. Sure, the FDL is amazing, but it can just as easily be beaten. Even the Mamba has potential in the right hands. Advantage is it's speed with it's small (very small) Disadvantage is lower manuverability.

I'm sure I've been at least one in some showing off stuff at Jameson but I have never seen a npc or human actually flying one. I don't even recall myself ever trying one. I'm sure I have though. The ultimate speedbomber, designed to zoom in unleash the full ordnance load to get the kill and run for rearming.
No other ship features the speed necessary for that task, with a high heat dissipation rate comparable to the mamba.
2 large torp tubes and twin disruption mines are nothing to sneeze at, backed up with one huge tool for the finishing blow.

@@acrazedgunman3388 The MultiCrew truly is a boon for ordnance heavy loadouts. I like the Mamba since it is a platform for an ordnance heavy approach, with tons of speed and sturdy shields. That makes it just a big Viper, with a sleek silhouette. It won't outturn everything, but it has fitting agility to prolong turning, for the ordnance to take effect.

I really wouldn't have minded if the Mamba would have been a re-skinned Fer-de-Lance, because of the OCD-inducing cockpit (yes, I'm one of those guys).
I am currently testing 1x C4 Plasma (Efficent), 2x C3 Gimbal Beams (Therma Vent / Long Range) and 2x C1 Gimbal Multicannons (Enhanced Ammo / Corrosive Shell).
Works ok, but I still prefer the Chieftain or FAS.
I think this Ship will be parked next to my "Piece of Ship", the Cobra MKIV. -_-
As for the boost sound: the Mamba's boost is at least not as much of an ear-rape as the Krait MKII's - it really starts to annoy me after a while, which the Mamba didn't.

but then decided it needed some asymmetry to fcuck with the aesthetics.

a faster ship can dictate engagements, zoom in, boom enemy in the face, zoom outside the enemies range, turn and repeat. a helicopter can turn on a dime, but do you think that helps against a jet in a fight? nope

the way I see it the mamba is a sports car, its pretty and is fun to fly but in the end there are better options if you need it for anything other then going fast in a straight line or looking pretty.

A fun experiment Put a cobra right next to a mamba and looks alone compare the two. Sort of looks like a cobra with a big upgrade to engines. Too bad the mamba didn't have 1 slot larger jump drive and power drive / thrusters. That is all.

the ever so slightly higher dps doesn't matter if you have less time on target. (the anemic vertical thrusters don't help either)

Honestly it's not the best performer, but it looks so good and feels so fun to fly with the speed, looks, sound and firepower that it doesn't matter. Just going to a hazrez to relax at the end of the day is great in it. Who cares if it's not the FDL, if it's fun it's good enough.

You should be able to boost this thing up to ~750. That's really the only way I can see it being viable. You could just smack on some PA or railguns or something and javelin people. I am pretty sure that was the plan all along, but it's just not fast enough to function that way reasonably.

Talking about racing, I've always thought the gorge around Felicity's base would work great for races
Buff maneuverability but how much? 5/10? 7\10 max. Also not killing yourself with your own weapons would be cool, and I think heat should be managed in the ship but should definitely be easier if it has all this going against it. Maybe give it one extra internal compared to Fdl? Other than fixes I think it needs just a little push to differentiate it from Fdl, maybe have bigger power plant worse distributor or something along those lines. In concept and design I'm really excited for this one, but if the execution isn't there, its now worth hardly anyone's time.
I was sorely tempted by the Mamba but the loss of agility with negligible straight line speed gain just isn't worth it. In reality the "boom and zoom" combat techniques used by the Bf109 have long since past.
