The only reason Elder Kai sacrificed himself to restore Goku's mortality Is because Gohan desperately Needed Goku's Help To save the whole universe while the god of the Spirit world picked Vegeta because he was the strongest person in the spirit world at the current time. This all adds up to why Goku is in Super He want's to get stronger everyday that's why he constantly trains so he's better than what he was everyday. They do the same thing in the Super hero movie with Gohan and well Piccolo. All there doing is giving Goku the chance to retire the guardian of earth and make him fight people more on his league. If not than Dbz would be known as a gag show like one punch man. It wasn't really selfish either for bringing up the tournament of power because the grand priest stated it would be a great idea to see the lower life universes Fight instead of just wiping the universe's as a hole yet again Goku managed to keep his universe alive. By all means as well you can't even pronounce Frieza or Majin Buu right.
It's not about shooting Goku for not wanting to be Jesus and it's not every threat that goes to land in search of him either. There are several moments, especially in the Buu saga (if I'm not mistaken) that he highlights several times his and the other warriors' role in protecting the land and the innocent and that this goes beyond his desire to fight. Did he keep his universe alive in Super? Yes. But he himself brought the threat, so does that really count? Would you appreciate a thief who, after robbing you, gave you a ride home?

The reason Goku agreed to this is because Majin Buu was going to kill everyone at that point and only he was the best shot at it. Dbs Xeno already stated he was going to wipe all the universes so seeing them fight would be better instead. Knowone heard that information which made him look like the bad guy all in all yeah he did let his ego and pride in the way but ultimatley they wouldve been wiped regaurdless so its a dual edged sword my guy and after the events of that all the universes where brought back due to no 17 wish. Xeno also stated he wouldve wiped the universe as a whole if they made the wrong wish. Ultimatley Goku even changed Xeno because he was ammazed by the mortals he saw fight for there universes.

If not for Goku’s motivation for the Tournament of Power all would’ve been lost due another universe selfish desire of need or want.
