LOVE the anodization! I think you are correct on the method. Heat method would be VERY difficult.
I have a couple to include the kizer ki401c2.
At least Britton _changed the hardware_ after the brouhaha. The way _I_ heard that story was that it was a Kizer design before they had a distributorship in the US, or really anything in place. They said that Britton could have exclusivity to the knife and rebrand it, as long as he sold "X" amount. If not, then after a year they could sell it themselves. So Tim was selling these for $600+, and claimed he was doing the anodizing etc. Unfortunately, he didn't sell enough, so Kizer by then had a distributorship and came to the US. To save face, Tim said they were ripping him off, and for a time (of course) it was the bad-old Chinese were ripping him off. However, the truth eventually came out.
I ordered the charcoal Ki4401B1 some time back on a flash sale. The action was _terrible!_ I couldn't figure it out at first - then I saw the lock bar stabilizer was missing (the clip covers it)! Sadly, they were out of stock (@ $99 you bet!) so I sent it back.

I have this knife and it is really an amazing value. I did have a lot of lock stick on mine. Tried all the tricks and it helped a bit, but still was not desirable. I ended up re-anodizing mine just for kicks. Did you ever get the stuff to start doing anodizing? Its a blast.
LTK- I had this model and was really attracted by the ano. Over time, it became tiresome to me. My buddy's wife called it the Rainbow Trout. Perfect name. I ended up gifting it to a friend that is an avid fisherman. The Kizer actions have improved greatly. Bearings and a stronger detent have really improved the line. Another great review.

MrGeerbear You should have kept it. I know what you mean about the "rainbow trout" thing. My handles are a bronz color with a powder blue center, flowery looking-feminine looking-that just clashed with the bronze color on the main handle side, so I wire-brushed that side to its original titanium color and it is a different , beautiful knife now. The side with the down blade clip, I left alone since it is mostly bronze color-90%. I put the clip to blade down carry after my blade opened up in my pocket blade side up carry.
I own the 401x which may slightly predate these. Mine has a tighter Anso pattern w/o micro-grooves, tip down only in a bronze with the same splash of color. Thanks for the info on how that added color was done. Also own the KI5401a1 same as yours but on steroids.
