Lowe's Creative Ideas: Building an Outdoor Privacy Screen

  • Feeling overexposed? Building an outdoor privacy screen can change all of that. With just a few tools and supplies you will have privacy in no time. Full project details here: low.es/1lLxPQJ
    First, lay out all of your supplies. The screens will be built inside out, so start by building the interior frame. Once the inner frame is built, attach to the outside posts with screws. The posts are just two 2 x 6s with a 2 x 4 in between. Make sure everything is squared up before attaching. Now you can add the rest of the horizontal rails and the metal flashing. Weave the metal flashing (while wearing gloves) and screw them in with sheet metal screws. The last step is to attach the last two 2 x 6 posts. Stain the lumber to your liking.
    After the building is complete, think about the layout of the screens. Once you have marked the spots for the posts, dig the holes (check with your local utility locating service beforehand). You may want to use an auger to help dig the post holes. Consult with your local building officials to see how deep you can dig. Then, to prep the holes, add some gravel. Now you can place the screens into the post holes and add concrete. Adjust your screens until they are level and the concrete is still setting.
    Once the concrete has set, you are ready to enjoy your backyard patio screens!

    Wonderful ! Ideal to install to cover some eye sores ,where you can't put fence ,but need little privacy ,or just obstarct something and colors and materials can vary ... It is a great idea ,which would absolutely work fro me ! Thank You ,Guys !

    I envisioned something exactly like this for my backyard. Can't wait to get started on it. Only instead of shiny aluminum flashing I will use something dull but colorful because I have artificial grass. I don't need the sun reflecting heat waves on that.

    • @lowes
      @lowes  8 років тому +1

      Go for it, Chuck! Some kind of paneling or thin plywood would probably be flexible enough...then you could paint it with some colorful exterior paint!

    What happens when the sun hits the metal ? I can’t imagine how blinding and hot that could be. It’s a great idea but maybe another texture to weave.

  • @giseliapereira777

    Looks nice, but the sheet metal is razor sharp! I'm sure there are other alternatives that can be used to weave.

    I would recommend/suggest using a fabric in place of the flashing for a look you can better customize. Of course choosing a fabric that will withstand weather should be a major consideration.
    Just staple it onto the frame and you're good to go! Has the added benefit of being easy to change as your tastes change if you adapt one side of 2x6 frame to be easily removable. Here I would suggest cutting 2x6 at the points where the fabric is mounted (top and bottom) and re-attach with through bolts and wing nuts or simply screw it. :-)

    Like the idea, but think I would use different mats....all I keep thinking about is, when the sun hits that metal it's going to blind you. Not to mention being sharp and getting hot enough to burn you (depending on where you live).

    Quick set concrete put water in the hole. pour concrete in hole, add water to top . No mixing needed. per manufacturer
    .

  • @B0r0
    @B0r0 11 років тому

    If you look at your quickset instructions, you DO NOT mix it after adding the water, so set your posts while the quickset is still dry, then when your happy then add the water, again look at how much water you need to add (4lt I think??) then do not touch the structure again. by the way I wouldnt use quickset as the strength is half that of concrete and it was break up after a couple of years. concrete is better and usually cheaper.

    👸I have noticed that these young designers don't know what there doing at all!!!! There is no relation to the to the property, with these no private panels , they have a very modern look and the house dosen't, it looks terrible with the house!!! Cypress would of added privacy without a harsh industrial look, you could also put solar Christmas lights up!

    Privacy shrubs or evergreens would have looked a lot better than these hideous screens.
