Lamar Valley is one of the few places I’ve ever experienced, that no photography I look back on or seen, could capture its scale and beauty. It’s mystical in that way. Must be seen to believed.
I have been to Yellowstone a number of times and have even worked for the Park Service on a hot shot crew many, many years ago. I have watched many videos about Yellowstone. I congratulate you for producing a video that reflects what Yellowstone is really about, not just some wild-eyed tourist that doesn't understand the ecology of Yellowstone.

i don't understand why people get angry at wildlife causing traffic. We, as people, are literally driving through these animals' home to see them and yet people get angry at them crossing the road? Also, why are people getting annoyed at others stopping to look at wildlife, surely people have come to Yellowstone for the same reason of seeing its pristine nature and wildlife. I highly doubt people are using the Lamar Valley road to commute to and from work!
SilverWater I agree but some locals that work in Cooke city and live in Gardiner actually do come home from work in the park. The schools do the same thing.
@@camden6255 I grew up in San Francisco, so I understand locals being frustrated at tourist traffic patterns...But I've seen some pretty ridiculous stuff in the park - lol!
@@JfCLA Seriously?? There's a huge difference between being respectful to the indigenous wildlife, and quite another to sit for 30 minutes everytime there's a bison or elk in the road. As a driver, if you want to observe and enjoy...then pull to the shoulder and let others slowly pass through and past whichever wildlife is making it's presence known. Courtesy cuts both ways. I've been to Yellowstone many times since the early 70s. People are on the clock and their time in Yellowstone isn't infinite. It gets very frustrating when roads are blocked for the most common sights and occurrences where traffic could easily creep through without incident or disrupting the transition of the animals.
We just got back from Yellowstone about a week ago.We thought mid May would be slow but it was packed. We were there six days and we saw bears every day. None at Lamar Valley though. And you are exactly right you never know what you’ll see in Yellowstone. You’re an awesome narrator great video.

The Road Less Traveled The weather was mainly low 30s in the mornings mid to upper 60s in the afternoons, and gorgeous until a brief afternoon thunderstorm, then gorgeous again. The cold mornings definitely brought the Bears out. We try to go every other year or every three years. Truly hope you get to go back this year, and if you do make another awesome video
North 2 Alaska -- In May 2018 we saw a few in the Dunraven Pass and Canyon Village area... you can see two of them in some video I lucked out and got called YELLOWSTONE ||| ALWAYS BE BEAR AWARE. One was in the Dunraven Pass area the other in the Hayden Vally area. We saw a lot in 2018 but they were literally scattered from Hayden to Lamar. This year they were in Hell Roaring, Elk Creek, just east of Tower Junction and Hayden Vally. This year we also got some video of a wolf from the Junction Butte pack, we saw wolves two days in a row. Video called WOLF ON THE HUNT ||| LAMAR VALLEY. I know that’s a lot to digest, hope it answered your question. Be safe
Prairie dogs in Yellowstone, I don't think, are that common. However, the same cannot be said for the yellow-bellied marmot, three species of chipmunk, the golden-mantled ground squirrel, and the Uinta ground squirrel.
Really nice video. Also that stop you love is not in Ice Box Canyon. It's the Soda Butte Picnic area, which unfortunately was all but destroyed in the floods 2 years ago. Ice Box Canon is about a half mile west. There are no prairie dogs in Yellowstone. What you are seeing are Uinta Ground Squirrels. Pronghorn are not, nor related to sheep. Lamar Valley is my favorite place in the park. I've been here for 20 years and it always amazes me. Finally, you should always try to herd the bison along when they are on the road. Don't just sit there. If you want to enjoy the bison, use one of the many pullouts. And yes, shouting obscenities is always very rude! Enjoy!

The Road Less Traveled it was the grandest area to see and hike. Loved it. Hiked lamar,slough creek all the way into Montana. Hiked hellroaring trail in and out. So many meadows, so many flowers and I saw every ani.al except a grizzled. I did have a very close encounter with a momma black and here two Cubs. Somebody has to be there to film it, though. It's similar to the question that asks if a falling tree makes a sound when it hits the forest floor if no one is there to hear it. I ask, is Yellowstone beautiful if now one can see it?
I'm going this year for a week. Normally a lot of time to see a lot of things. However I'm going with my Sisters family with 3 toddlers lol, and my grandparents. So it'll be slower to get around throughout the day. But should still be very fun! Also camping in the Tetons the whole time. I'm hoping to get a car I can drive up myself so I can go hike and such. No way I'm getting my family to hike anywhere lol
As you're heading through the valley from the Tower Junction entrance, there will be a point where the river comes very close to the road not too far past the ranger station. If you keep an eye out beyond the river as you move down that road, this view will reveal itself to you.
Great video, but local drivers are not being rude when they give buffalo jams a nudge and plow thru. Actsually you cannot sit there all day jamming up traffic to look at buffalo for extended periods. If you were to talk with a ranger it's what they want you to do and what they do themselves.

Here are directions to the spot in the video: Take NE Entrance Road (212) through the valley. Once you get into the area of Soda Butte, you'll see Pebble Creek Campground turnoff. Keep on 212, and 4-5 minutes later, there will be a small parking lot on your right - pull in there. That is Soda Butte Creek parking, and Ice Box Canyon is the area across the Creek and to your right....
im from canada in the city... how do ppl feel comfy walking and hiking near this "yellowstone" place but there is coyotes and bears and shit all around? what if you hiking and bears are there lol
It's recommended to carry bear spray if you go hiking off road...If you see a wolf or coyote, I wouldn't be concerned for safety - they want nothing to do with humans - lol!
The top comment is good about being mad at animals etc. but I had to get to the airport and someone was stopped for 7 minutes at 1 bison and we couldn’t pass him. But there are a lot of crazy drivers through Yellowstone which is not good. A lot of people speeding, passing each other and beeping. I almost saw a bison get hit by some person speeding. I also saw a car honk at a bison and it scared it. Very ignorant people out there
Honestly, I've never seen a moose in Yellowstone in 4 week long trips. I've seen the in Teton, and have heard about them up near the north entrance (near where this vid was shot)....No bears either? I saw zero bears my first trip, then one on my second from a distance, then a ton my last two....
Moose tend to be pretty uncommon just in general. Where I live Moose are supposed to be in abundance, but despite all the hiking and camping I do I usually only see 2 or 4 a year. I know they are very shy to humans

I seem to get lucky on the Easy entrance road. All the way from outside the park to the lake, that's where I've had ALL my Grizzlie sightings.

The dirt splotches are wallows. They unrinate in them. Elk do the same during the rut.

I would never worry about the Coyotes, they aren't known as dangerous at all. Altbough definitely be careful

I agree. I have had people argue about that with me, taking the position that locals HAVE to drive through the park and don't appreciate all the jams.
