In this video, I will be unboxing the Universal Audio Apollo x4 Heritage Edition. The Heritage Edition is identical to the regular Apollo x4, with the exception that this one comes with these additional plugins:
Helios Type 69 Preamp & EQ Collection
V76 Preamplifier
Oxide Tape Recorder
Teletronix LA-3A Audio Leveler
Fairchild Tube Limiter Collection
Teletronix LA-2A Classic Lever Collection
Pultec Passive EQ Collection (my favorite, amazing on vocals)
1176 Classic Limiter Collection
Pure Plate Reverb
UA 610 Tube Preamp & EQ Collection
If you're wondering what the difference is between the LA-2A, 1176 or the Pultec plugins that come with the non-Heritage Edition Apollo x4 and the Heritage Edition, the regular x4 plug-ins are the legacy version and the Heritage Edition comes with the updated plugins. They use more DSP, but sound beautiful.
The Apollo x4 also includes a QUAD processor to handle some of the intense plugins. For example, loading up a few instances of the Neve 1073 preamp, Ocean Way Studios room modeler and Capitol Chambers will easily max out the DUO or the SOLO processors.
For me, this is a huge upgrade from my old Steinberg UR22 interface. Even without my recent mic upgrade (I upgraded from a Rode NT1A to a Neumann TLM 103), it significantly improved the audio quality. And the Neve 1073 UNISON preamp emulation is just gold. Sounds amazing on vocals, with and without the EQ.

Love my x4. Not aware of any audio company including a Thunderbolt cable in the box with their interface. Only see USB interfaces including USB or USB-C cables but those are cheaper to source.
I’ve never seen Thunderbolt cables included with anything either, but I thought given the high price tag they’d include it
Focusrite Clarett 4pre comes with one
@@MrCebaskii Clarett 4Pre is USB-C and comes with a USB-C cable. Most USB interfaces come with a cable. Although USB-C cables connect to Thunderbolt ports they do not support Thunderbolt devices which is why USB-C cables are so cheap.

Why doesn’t UA put MIDI inputs on their interfaces? I wish it did, but since it does not, I went with a Scarlett Focusrite

How i wish UA was using USB C. Hopefully next generation will have it.... i will stick with a cheap audio interface until then.
Would be a lot easier! Even to get it through a USB hub, it requires an expensive CalDigit hub that can handle thunderbolt

It’s connected to my MacBook Pro 15 inch via thunderbolt, but not directly to the laptop. It’s first connecting to a thunderbolt / USB hub (Caldigit Element Hub) and then into the MacBook

They are great but the DSP chips are a total rip. They need to be AT LEAST twice as powerful to get what you need for a full session for the price you pay.

@@Semyon_Music At the moment Im using the UAD 1176 collection, 33609, Helios Collection, Studer, Oxide and the LA2A collection all in conjunction with SSL Native Channel strips and BUS. It seems to be a good balance between UAD plugs and SSL Native because even with the Satellite I would not be able to get a full session out of my UAD hardware alone which is also very expensive in Australia.
Oh and UAD Distressor as well
