UV camera used this way does not tell you how effective a sunscreen is. It just tells you how well you applied it - if you missed a spot or not. A sunscreen that looks lighter with a UV camera used this way can still be more effective than one that looks darker. Buy sunscreens that are independently lab tested. There are many to choose from.

Can’t upvote enough. Even disregarding the fact that value ≠ protection in this case, you don’t know the sensitivity profile of the image sensor or the transmission profile of the optics to even say that they accurately represent reflectance across the entire UV spectrum (and they don’t). These products are only good to check for even application, and the reputable ones even tell you that themselves.
Sunsticks are even more likely to be under-applied than lotion formulas, but they are waxier and typically pretty robust - they sometimes stand up physical stress a bit better. So, there are tradeoffs, but I like them more as a reapplication than a primary one.
Exactly. Took the words out of my mouth. Just because a sunscreen appears lighter in a UV camera means it's not effective? Many people here needs to learn a thing or 2 about sunscreen.

I can't remember where I read it, but I read that sunscreen sticks require "4-5 back and forth passes" to reach full protection, which seemed clear but made me question myself. I could never figure out if that counted each direction as a pass (ie whether "back and forth" counted as one or two passes), but this answers it. 8-10 swipes, phew!

Apparently, you need at least 20 swipes to reach the needed protection. Michelle from Lab Muffin Beauty just made an experiment recently

Sun cream is good but i think most people that use makeup wont reapply so sun sticks is for that also use the cream one under makeup lmao or makeup with spf

What is going on
In my opinion, sunscreen stick is just a skincare fad. The product has a huge downside that it goes on your skin, catches the dirt ,dead skin and oil and contaminates the entire product. "Wipe it before you use", you'll say. A product should be made as such that it keeps things like these in mind.
How many + has stick? Because you can't compare something that has different strength just because it's in different form 🙄
