Start teaching them real life, life lessons and skills early in life. Have them do chores, or help out around the house, even at an early age. They can help set the table. They can help with pouring ingredients into the food you are cooking, etc. Things like that.

Man, I had the opposite of the helicopter parenting.. My mother didn't do GOOD things for me, she was more of the ENABLER.. She made the bad habits a LOT easier. My parents didn't care. So it was dysfunction from the other side of the spectrum.. They didn't care or teach me anything, my father wasn't in my life, and the relationship I had with my mother was dysfunctional and still is.. It was detrimental to friendships early on as well as how I saw relationships in regards to attachment styles. I like to think I'm definitely more independent as a person, but there's always that anxiety of the unknown. It did teach me what NOT to do as a parent though, which is a good thing.

My mom taught me to be independent. Was making my own lunch, rode public bus to go to school and cook my own food by 6yo

My 2 year old already knows how to put his toys back in their cubby and my daughters know how to clean their own room and do their own breakfast. I grew up having to do those things myself as well as handy work around the house. I don’t need to depend on my husband to fix things at home because my dad always taught me to be independent and learn how to get things done.

Hey Bart, in regards to teaching Taika about investing, just teach him about the old school lemonade stand.. Although I don't know how practical that would be in Vegas temperatures.. haha That's an investment. He can also se returns on it quite quickly and you can teach him how to use that to invest in other small businesses.. Tell him that he can use some of his saving to buy lemons and sugar and maybe you can buy him the container to dispense the lemonade as encouragement, and tell him to try it out since it's always hot where you live right..?? Maybe you can build him something so he has a little stand to sell from. Teach him the importance of making GOOD lemonade and not some watered down stuff for good business.. HAHA.. Also a good time to teach him about high yield savings accounts.. =)
