I think merely watching someone's this great performance, in and of itself might make you a better musician If you are in any degree seeking to learn music.... This is ridiculous that 2 people are making so much music here, mind you a top musician at the peak of his game uses more brain power during such a session than a neurosurgeon performing a complex surgery... I can sure see how! What a duo!!!! You guys always inspire me.

Mehliana, the electric duo from pianist and composer Brad Mehldau and drummer Mark Guiliana, released its debut album, Mehliana: Taming the Dragon, on Nonesuch Records in 2014 to critical acclaim. The album, which features Mehldau on Fender Rhodes and synthesizers and Guiliana on drums and effects, went on to win the Edison Award for Best International Jazz Album, a Dutch award, late last year. The duo heads to the Netherlands later this month for a set at the Music Meeting Festival in Nijmegen on May 24, the pair's only scheduled date for the rest of the year.
Prior to the release of the Mehliana album, Mehldau and Guiliana had been performing together for several years, including a show at Largo in Los Angeles in October of 2013, several songs from which were filmed live. The videos, directed and recorded by Alex Chaloff, released thus far include live takes on album tracks "Sleeping Giant," "Just Call Me Nige," and "Hungry Ghost." A fourth and final video, of the song "Centinela," which is not on the album, can now be seen below.

They took it out, I kind of get it, it has a different vibe than the rest of the album, but I think it would have been better to keep it.
As far as I know they used this as a promotion for the album , but dudes right that record is def supposed to be listened to start to finish , and this one doesn't quite fit in anywhere. Great song tho!

That's a good starting point.
Also, check out early DnB/Jungle, like Photek's Modus Operandi, Grooverider's Mysteries of the Funk, Goldie's Timeless, Roni Size's New Forms. A lot of those early records pulled heavy from Jazz samples, but also influenced A LOT of these modern Jazz/Electronic groups. These are obviously not live groups, but are worth delving into.

+KrummyBear Time signature and tempo aren't the same thing. 7/8 isn't intrinsically "faster" than 7/4. What matters is what you are counting as your pulse, a quarter note or an eighth note

it's a great creative duo but all their songs sounds the same. same vibe same mood same tempos. even mark is repeating himself a lot. with this kind of airy melodies he could take these jams into new places rhythmically.
