    After watching your videos, I decided to go for a bike fit. I was having knee and foot pain. Now the bike has 155mm cranks, a wavey woo and wider shoes. Night and day difference, so easy to ride now. Can’t wait for the cold weather to end in Chicago.

    I always like Francis' chimes of honesty that come in from behind the camera. Can always nip some BS in the bud quickly.

    My DIY bike fit resulted in my changing the saddle for a small armchair and I have removed the pedals, cranks, and derailleur. It is now the most expensive balance bike in Sussex.
    Trouble is, it only works well going down hill.

    Wish I could afford to go to Australia and have James fit me to my bike. But using these videos, I’ve solved most of my pain issues. Saddle to high was a major piece of the puzzle. Cleats to far forward was also causing issues. So far I’ve reduced my pain issues by about 90% and have not lost any power. This series of videos with James have helped immensely.

  • @paddyotoole2058

    Re comment at 03:22 , yes this is true but this is due to spinal disc compression throughout the day I.e. stuff happening above your pelvis, and so leg length and therefore saddle height would be relatively unaffected by this phenomenon? It could of course potentially affect your reach to the handlebars.

    Wedge with thick edge on lateral side solved my knee pain issue. I have valgus feet. Not inevitable that they don't solve pain issues.

    He comes across as a pretty competent fitter but I'd rather send someone off to a podiatrist for proper leg length discrepancy assessment. I'm not a huge fan of shimming a cleat either and would try and increase support through as much of the foot as possible with a quality insole. This guys a good bike fitter.

    You hit my sweet spot on this video. My left patella is a bit higher than the Right and I could never been able to ride pain free on road cleats actually. So is backward cleat adjustment the correct call for a higher patella?

    • @bertreed9621

      at what point would you consider the use of a valgus wedge?

    • @jamesthomas7024
      @jamesthomas7024 6 років тому

      bert reed depends on how much valgus and whether or not it affects the foot in the shoe. The statement is slightly out of context - I’d never fit a valgus orientated wedge to prevent knee displacement
