I'm definitely going to steal this whole design and build the face of the plow out of plastic, probably a big piece of a throw-away chemical tote, similar to the roof of your UTV. I designed a plow with the rotation feature using a winch similar to your setup. I noticed the cable would always come loose when it hit the limit of each rotation direction, and now I understand why you added the spring, brilliant!
Maybe you can help me understand why the springs arent mounted between the blade and the cables? I dont understand what is the benefit of having it on the winch, which seems to be more complicated.
That plow looks like it works just awesome and the power angle is sweet. Can't wait for the next video, the power drive trailer is the best part when you teased making it.

I sure hope people watched to the very end. Looks like another set of wheels is coming and maybe a track addition. Could even be a powered cart or pto something. Looks awesome!
This sounds silly, but I never once thought about the existence of right hand drive UTVs. Been overseas, in RHD cars, trucks and buses, but never saw one UTV; not once. Great work; looks like a very functional plow.
We have right hand side traffic and left hand side steering here in Estonia. This UTV just came out this way (with right hand side steering) while putting together the powertrain. I use it only offroad here on my property for running errands (hauling stuff mainly) so the steering position is not relevant anyway.
Nice job Don. Few things… 1) could you have used extension springs on each cable instead of winch spring. Springs would be the “cushion valve” so to speak. Easy to replace. Looks like you have bucket full of them. 2) “A” frame in decline angle. All plows I work with frame is parallel to ground if not slightly inclined to plow. Less chance to want to “run over” plow 3) increase drum size on winch. This will offer faster angle speeds. Last wrap of winch drop has fastest cable speed although least pulling power…always a trade off same with hydraulics
First, Merry Christmas. Great work as always. You finished just in time. I have been plowing snow for over 50 years. A couple things you may want to consider. First, the gears in the winch you use to angle the plow are not likely to last very long, they don’t like heavy shock loads. An electric linear actuator might be better if it heavy duty, still electric, and not hydraulic. Second, and less important you may want to move the shoes out to the end of the blade. Keep up the good work.
Hello If you bolted rubber belting to the top, you would get the snow curling effect. Move more snow, and keep it off the windshield. Enjoy your videos.
Finally got around to adding the winch angle to my buggy. Did exactly as you did Donn. Works great !!! The geometry of it is a head scratcher for me tho. Guessing the travel is different in each direction. Thanks for the awesome idea !!! Greg in Pennsylvania
Awesome job. I would add some plow wings to the plow (angled ends that allow for better scooping). That would help to widen the plowed snow beyond the wheel tracks and helps to eliminate spillover from the leading edge when wind rowing the snow.

Has to be pretty satisfying to build all of that from scratch then put it to work... and it does what it is supposed to do. I like your constant tension design. I wouldn't have gone down that design road the first time.
Donn, you could use a steering valve from a forklift with a hydraulic diversion valve, your power steering pump and a couple hydraulic cylinders and have a more solid setup for blade angle. Maybe you could check breaker yards in your are for a junked forklift for donor parts? The tilt cylinders would be most adequate for that. Aside from that, you have a very nice build for that white fluffy stuff.
Nice build. Couple of suggestions though. I would do an insert in the tubing where the winch bolts are sliding to prevent ovaling out the tubing. Also, I would attach a replaceable cutting edge on the blade.
Great job! How about putting on some easily detachable (plastic and canvas) side and back doors/windows? Add a simple salvaged heater and it will be comfortable and cozy for plow work. 👍👍

One way of winding and it goes right back like it was as a single strand of seven wound together an the other is a knot or a mess. You will figure out how much to keep so that when its wound together it stops where you stopped unwinding it from. This way you need no clamps an it looks way nicer or you could weave a metal sleeve in its eye, your choice but it doesn't need a press to make the eye and its quick to do. Merry christmas Donn
