COLOMBIA - a Country Destroyed by Drug and Violence

- Short documentary based on Colombian recent history. We'll try to answer a series of questions through a political analysis of the country: is Colombia a failed State? Why has there been so much violence in the last Century, and how did the FARC originate?

This was a great video. I want to add something that other Colombians haven't said yet. Here the word "campesino" doesn't have the negatively connotation that the word "peasant" has in English. Here it is used to talk about a part of the population, a historically important one. It implies particular cultural characteristics. Many people take pride in the fact of being campesinos or being descendant of them, as myself.
este si le sabe
So would it be more similar to "commoner" or something then?
@@infinitejinpachi no, campesino is the same as someone who lives in the county side and yes, the majority of this portion of the population would traditionally be considered as poor but definitely very hard working and many are very very honorable people.
@@infinitejinpachi yes and no, campesino is a direct translation of the word peasant but the word itself isn’t a slur and is more like commoner in terms of not being offensive to people that come from common means or agricultural country pumpkins.
I myself am a descendant of polish campesinos.
im colombian and we do have respect for those who labor on the rural areas.

Hi Nova! I am really pleased that you are finally focusing on a much, much larger international audience. I really hope that you will follow this path and I wish you a good continuation of these small projects. Regarding your channel, since I am aware that you are paying more attentions to geopolitics, I'd like to suggest you to talk more about other kind of geopolitical affairs which do not involves the direct presence of states such as future water crisis or even overpopulation. Again, good job Nova!

As a Colombian this video highlights the most important parts of the conflict very well something that for certain groups is not convenient to be told but thank you for your work

I discovered you through your Turkmenistan video and holy shit, your videos are so fascinating, and this video is so accurate and very well summarized. Coming from someone who had always lived in Bogotá, most of the dangers mentioned above were always distant to me, as conflict seemed like it was everywhere around the country, and it indeed has been. Colombia is a very beautiful country, rich of culture, gastronomy, ecosystems, animals, plants and unique landscapes, but oh man, the government is horrendous, and it has been so awfully managed over the last years with all this conflict everywhere in the countryside.
Keep the content up man! This and many other of your videos have been so entertaining to watch! Saludos desde Colombia! 🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴
BIG UPS
Great Simone! I am sure the worldwide audience will take advantage of the data you proudly provide and your editorial line. Best Best "in bocca al lupo" for your new channel!
I'm soo used to hear you in italian that it felt kind of strange to hear you in english. I liked it, very good job.
I'm colombian , most people in my country do not know anything about this. They seem to believe the insurgents just sprout out of Mordor
Lmfaoooo
So great, Simone!
I'm so happy to see you grow.
Keep on with the good stuff!

Your first video in English? Very impressive! I noticed no errors in your speech that I could think of and you explained everything clearly even with memes that people know! Good job!
I'm glad you made an English channel, good luck in bringing your awesome explanations to the whole world!
Ottimo lavoro come sempre.
My personal best wishes for this new adventure of your, Simone!

Just a small clarification from a Colombian. The president under which the Peace Treaty was signed is most commonly called Juan Manuel Santos. Not sure why you decided to use his second last name but I wanted to clarify so that there is no confusion. Loved the video by the way, thank you for making it!

Yes, Let's gooooo! This is the channel the world needs, and by being conscious of its existence it will be appreciated.🙂
Good video overall, of course, it is a very brief overview of the situation. One recommendation tho: don't skip the first last name of the people you talk about: you mentioned "Dictator Gustavo Pinilla", "president Alvaro Vélez" and "president Juan Calderón" for example, and yet those people are most commonly known for their last names: "Gustavo ROJAS Pinilla", "Alvaro URIBE Vélez" and "Juan Manuel SANTOS Calderón". If you ask any Colombian if they know who "Álvaro Vélez" or "Juan Calderón" are they might not know who are you talking about, but if you ask them about "Uribe" or "Santos" they will surely know.
Another point, former guerrillas are BY NO MEANS stronger than they were before the peace process and the demobilization of FARC-EP, most "guerrilla forces" now are scattered bands of former fighters barely organized in the colombo-venezolan border and with much less capacity to cause harm or control any kind of territory. Paramilitaries on the other hand are on the rise in strength and cruelty, more often than not aided by the state itself and the military to exert control and terror on many rural communities and urban peripheries.
Using just the second surname is such a basic error and such a giveaway that somebody doesn't know much about the country.
@@admiralbrown9334 I think that is more a lack of knowldge of the language than the contry itself... the spanish/latin american culture of using two surnames is very uncommon in the world
@@pale9098It does betray a lack of knowledge about the country. If you're calling historical figures by names that most Colombians wouldn't even recognise, you're clearly not well informed. If you don't know such a basic thing about the nation's culture, you're clearly not well informed.
Hi Simone, I am one of your Patreon "mecenate", I already shared the video with all my Colombian friends. Great video as usual! :)
One little point, I think the Bogotazo death number might have been inflated by a few zeros here.. according to Wikipedia should be between 500 and 3000
I’m in Colombia right now for a month. Currently in a small town called apulo in the mountains near bogota. Been here for a week and I gotta say, these roads are still awful been traveling and it’s takes 2 hours to travel 20 miles. It’s torture lol
Where are you from?which countries did you visit?
if it isn't a highly touristic place, the goverment doesn't give a shit
Dónde está pues
@Sledge Hammer repeat with me guys: MEDELLÍN SHOULD BE THE CAPITAL CITY.
It is incredible that a Medellín has a functional train road and more of an advanced city, while Bogota it's not a huge deal.
We're still in the process of making double ways for the most important highways in the country, once it's done hopefuly we could get to pave many of the secondary roads. But Colombia is a really rainy place and has got sedimentary soil which makes it really unstable so it always takes lot of time to finish one project.
omg seems someone is trying to expand, that's great! Keep it up Simone ;)
