It was a Royal Navy nickname for them that likely had nothing to do with their appearance and more to do with them being ‘unpleasant’ (the ugly sisters in the original fairy tale were normal looking but horrible) in the same sense that ‘ugly weather’ is.
I can't help but feel like there's something tragic about how historical builds are always facing more powerful ships because of how they've balanced the AI. I imagine that a lot of people that would like to play this game would like historical builds to, you know, not fucking suck lol. I realise that the AI's "build range" is pretty wide, as they sometimes build under-gunned/under-armoured ships, but generally speaking they build stuff that's, in world of warships terms, a tier 10 when you've build a tier 8 or 9
I completely agree - however she was called a battleship - she was though more of a souped up Deutschland class - I was just curious how she’d fare against a tough opponent.
hey brother, if you use the modern secondary tower I instead of modern secondary tower II, you can accurately place the 6in gun turrets.....however you will have to use 3in tertiary guns instead of 4in (if you're using the modern battlecruiser hull)
There's an argument to be made about getting the 11 inch guns to spam HE and destroy the fire control mechanism of the enemy ship in the superstructure with a higher fire rate and more accurate salvos, which the Germans did have at least at the first salvo thanks to fire control radar... And just continously burn the ship top to bottom you could say, till it's no use anymore... I think I heard it from drachinifel but I could be wrong
The idea behind the 11” was to have a rapid rate of fire to get a large number of rounds on target. I will defer to Drach but my understanding of ship on ship combat in WW2 is that firing AP shells was what you needed to do and did, the few examples of HE being fired at other ships were from when ships which were planning to fire on land targets encountered enemy vessels. HE spam is what I’d consider a ‘gamey’ tactic - the only references I could find to Scharnhorst firing HE at enemy ships was from World of Warships forums.
@@Verteidiger99 oh the New Jersey museum! Great channel. They talk about how the design was to use high rate of fire and range to get in the first hit, but that would be an AP shell not HE as you wanted to punch into the superstructure and cause damage inside the ship.
@@BrotherMunro Using Turtleback armor scheme is essential for brawling BBs and BCs because of the armor being equally distributed on all parts of the belt. Even if you put equal armor on the belt and belt extended, if you have Citadel V (All-or-Nothing), the belt extended will be weakened while the main belt will be strengthened. And besides, all german warships have Turtleback armor on them.
What about the planned rebuilt version, with three double 380 mm turrets ?
A real beauty of a ship
"We're not dead yet" Well can you move it along? I've got to get up to the Robinsons; they've lost nine today.
Love the new thumbnail layout for historical builds! Hope this year goes well for you!
Yes! One of famous “ugly sisters” but truly beautiful :)
Can i know why they call her "ugly sisters"?

@@BrotherMunro Huh, now that I did not know! Learn something new every day! =D
I built a pretty close SMS Derfflinger that was actually pretty nasty
Happy new year 🎉

It's worth saying that it probably makes sense to always give the enemy a lower tech date when you're doing a historical build
I kind of want to see HMS Hood or HMS Repulse, the current British modernised dreadnought hull and superstructure look about right
Nice vid but no Turtleback....oh well.
Can you do Alaska?
How about the Tosa class as originally planned before conversion?
HMS Warspite , as built, vs a German 1916 tech battleship would be interesting
The Scharnhorst was a Battlecruiser, it was never intended to go up against Battleships. Tirpitz or Bismark were.

US Battlecruiser - USS Lexington (CC-1) [1920] vs Spanish Battlecruiser [1920]
US Cruiser - USS Olympia (C-6) [1895] vs Chinese Cruiser [1895]

Oh yeah this is exactly what i was waiting for

Shouldn't she have turtleback armor and lighter shells though?
Thank you for the video anyway! Would like to see something like Littorio.
Probably, but I wanted her to have some sort of chance! 😂

Suggestion for historical build “Dunkerque”, after adding quad turrets was disappointing not having Dunkerque quad 330mm turrets :(
Jean Bart probably be a better suggestion:)
O the zevenprovincien 1910 in the battle of the java sea.

An historical build but with no torpedoes because you 'can't be bothered putting them on' is hardly an historical build, is it?
