Our world would be a very different place if every child was exposed to this kind of experience before they were conditioned to believe they are merely competitors in a consumer culture. We who know Yosemite and its "timeless" beauty have been given a very special gift: a sense of wonder and of belonging to something far greater than our individual limitations.
Once again the Yosemite team has produced, with the advantage of filming in the most stunningly beautiful place in the world, another fabulous video. What a great job.
When I see videos like this, I think..."We're nothing". But not in a bad way at all. We are important, yes. But so is everything...here and out there. I can't explain it. Just beautiful. Absolutely jaw dropingly amazing.
Alright , I think I've got the best Night Sky story ever Was camping Yosemite back when my first Son was 4 or 5 And as the night got darker . He started to become frightened . So I pointed out the light from the stars and sead . " See how close they are . Because we're so far up in the mountains ." And my Son SO , Starstruck sead to me ... " WOW ! Dad can we get one ? " As with every conviction of a five year old boy . Who hasn't seen the stars that close before . WELL ! His opptamisum could not be denied . So I flipped him up on my shoulders . And RAN up the near by hill to get one of those stars . Thank you Lance , for showing me the stars so close . I'm sorry we did not reach one that night . And now you're so far away .
I love this video! Yosemite is the inspiration for so many people's love and joy. A walk through Curry Village and a stroll through the meadows will give you the biggest smile you've ever had. Living 2 hours away from Yosemite (the best place in the world) makes me feel very special. :)
Yosemite by night, just as beautiful as during the day. Who would have ever known! Have been to Yosemite several times now, but have never spent much time there well after dark to enjoy these stunning views of the night skies and the Milky Way.
Gorgeous! I love Yosemite and especially the High Country. I always feel so connected with the cosmos here and wish everyone could experience this blessing. This video is a step towards sharing this beauty and majesty of Gaia - our Mother Earth. Thank you - may it inspire!
Another excellent video. Thank you for producing and sharing this video. My favorite line was "you can actually see your shadow because of the light from the Milky Way." I have never visited Yosemite National Park but I want to visit now more than ever.
What a breathtaking experience to actually be able to see the infinite number of stars. Leaves you in awe and only makes you wonder more of what’s really out there.
Fantastic Video. For all the people who live in the city who forget what a beautiful world we live in. The Night Sky's are so inspirational, your so talented. Have a wonderful weekend :)
Been to the top of Mount Whitney 5 time (14502ft), every time i went was to view the stars...It's a very humbling experience, hence the reason i keep going back... Shooting stars everywhere and they leave a rainbow trail...heading back Early Summer 2013
Thank you so much. That was so beautiful. I have seen the night sky in Yosemite long ago. We should have lights turned off by 12am every night on the streets, but not the highways. We would conserve energy also.
This is a very cool video. I have also seen something like this in a small town called Saguache, CO. I drive a semi and I picked up a load on a farm there, and when I woke up at 3:30 am to head off to California, I was amazed because I am a city dweller. I wanted to stay there another night to watch it, but I had to leave. I want to go back so bad that it's not even close to funny.
my dad used to tell me "turn off the light if you're no longer using it". that was one of the wiser things he taught me. unfortunately the new fastronauts are multiplying and the quickening is accelerating. . .more light pollution. . .sad. . .would love to be an enforcer but not likely in these times. p.g.and e make too much money from all that wasted electricity so they're not about to complain.
For about half of the video I watched and thought how cool is it that i can see the galaxy totating then i thought wait thats the earth rotating MINDBLOW!!!
Your work is outstanding Shawn, hopefully we can get laws passed that help limit the effects of light pollution with less broad range outside bulbs and limit illumination downward.
As humans, we exist in a world of reflection, seeing ourselves in others and through others. If one never has the chance to view their own reflection in the night sky and recognize their origin, they miss out on viewing themselves in their most brilliant state. Without that connection, there is a gap in the fulfillment of the soul which leads to confusion as to what should fill it, leaving a person more susceptible to being manipulated through life as chattel to the benefit of others.
On rare occasions people in the city have seen the Milky Way. I remember in the early 1990s right after the Northridge earth quake, the power went out in Los Angeles during the night. Some of the people panicked and called the police because they looked up and saw that the sky was "lit up" and/or "on fire" because they had never seen so many stars before because of the light pollution that normally washes out all but the brightest of stars and planets in the downtown LA area.
Not even 1080p can actually show just how beautiful this place really is.
This remains one of my all time favourite UA-cam clips. Even after all this time. Stunning.

Well said, Noe.

Maybe you two did each get a star--they reside in your heart where you can't see them, but you sure can feel them--you and Lance.
I starting crying at the end because I was so happy and just so amazed!
You would not believe how badly I would like to go to a desert, or a national park like this just to see the stars.
Now is the time to drive on out.

People should really understand that in every kind of darkness there is a light - always!
I feel very happy to listen to the tunes of carlos santana , I was listening to him since I was in Haiti and I love his melodies a lot. kalolo
A true window into space. Mind-blowingly beautiful when you stop to think about it.
I actually lived in Yosemite for 4 years and just love to watch the stars. It was amazing. I miss it now that I live in las Vegas.

This is why I love living away from the city. You can actually see the stars.
Simply amazing. What a stunning sight. It really is a pity that I would probably never get to see such magnificent sight in my whole life.
Beautiful work Steven. It brings out a lot of memories shooting the night sky there!
This is amazing! I will definitely have to make a trip there. Who needs light bulbs, when you have the natural lighting by the skies. AMAZING!
