    Still have this securely tucked away in my 12 inch single collection, was played relentlessly when new and still gets dragged out for a spin on occasion today. Like so many bands of the period they didn't get the recognition they richly deserved. Post punk/New wave bands back then simply weren't played on mainstream radio, not many people knew they existed .... a tragedy really.

    Listened to this on 102.7FM WLBS "The only station that matters" with DJ's like Mike Halloran. Got my first car and set every preset on the radio to 102.7, nothing else worth listening to that summer. This was one of the last new songs I remember getting airplay before the plug got pulled and it changed to a 'Boomer oldies station.

    • @kyachdistent1301

      It's the best sound-and not for nothing their best period are the singles from 'After The Rain' onward till the end. Their crowning glory has to be 'Day One' and 'The Cutting Edge'. All that abstract alienation stuff from the early 80s-keep it. It's stuff and often unmemorable with very little hooks. Sometimes commercilisation is a good thing.

    • @Marg555
      @Marg555 7 років тому

      I agree. This is not even nearly as commercial as, I'd say "buck fizz", and all these synths sounds and hooks are actually more experimental than common "alternative" guitar rock.

    I agree that the Comsat Angels best stuff was the first three albums. There are some great songs peppered throughout all their other albums though. Some of their best work in fact. Songs like "High Tide", "You Move Me", "Lost Continent" and so on. This is a great track too. And "My Mind's Eye" is pretty much a later period masterpiece. Fantastic album that was and in a similar vein as 'Priest = Aura' by the Church.

    Should've been a Top 40 hit at least! Not as good as their early-80's stuff, but its glossy 'Simple Minds'-style production was obviously intended to give them the commercial breakthrough they'd long deserved. No such luck!

  • @HonourtheFire
    @HonourtheFire 12 років тому +4

    I liked Comsat Angels in their day. I think they lost their way trying to create radio friendly hits like this. Their early stuff was dark, atmospheric & unique. Songs like Dark Parade & this one are polar opposites in terms of style. I like the Dark Parade style Comsat Angels.

    • @kyachdistent1301
      @kyachdistent1301 7 років тому

      Well I think their more commercial found is far better-that's why their singles from this and 'After The Rain' onwards were significantly better than anything they'd done before.

    I hate LAND---you can see why. It's goddamn NEW WAVE else NEW ROMANTIC!!! What are the Comstat Angels doing playing NEW WAVE?!!! If I had owned their first three LPs, I would have flung this LP against the nearist wall!!! This is NEW WAVE Pap!!! I do remember this song getting massive air play. Again, I was exposed to CA in 1995 when they were attempting a come back as Grunge Geezers. I didn't know of their first three LPs until Y2K!!! The CA Holy TRINITY defines Post Punk like no other!!!

      Amazing that for one person Land is crap and for another it's a fantastic album. I absolutely loved Land. I don't get it why even Comsat's regretted this album. It's a fantastic example of solid new wave. Suspiciously commercial yet it isn't just yet! one o/t best bands of their time. Always remind me of IceHouse (and their uphill battle against e.g. Roxy Music) though they did have more success in their days.
