I saw this on etsy today and hesitated because I was a little unsure how to use it. Thanks for this video. I will be purchasing mine now!
These work very well. I found if I trace out the stars with an exacto blade before carving, and use a #106 Dremel bit, I get sharp points on the stars with very little cleanup after.
Just ordered a 50 star template. I look forward to receiving it and making my first flag. Great Idea, thank you for a smooth transaction.
No worries. Thank you. Happy Holidays

Saw on one of the other post, I be interested in buying a template that I could place and glue a 1.25" star that is 1/8" or 1/4" thick. If you have already made a template for emplacing stars, would making an intructional video on how it works, be too much too ask? That would definitely be my next buy.
Just received and made the union on a flag I made and it makes carving the stars so much easier and the stars do not lose that "hand carved" look it was also thicker than I thought it would be! thanks again for a quality stencil!
Sweet!! Glad you like it. Ya they do help a lot of folks. Keep making those flags. Feel free to shoot me some pictures on Instagram. I'll share them with others.
Found this from the facebook group. This video is perfect for showing off what the process is. Thank you!
No problem. Ya I post a lot in that flag group.
that is what i have been looking for on line for days, perfect, ill get one thanks, but wish it was on amazon too
Ok so I watched this video a little over a year ago and was a bit skeptical. Now I see the benefits. Too much to put on here but I like that you offer the exact three sizes of stencil I use. The 10.5 high union one being my best seller so I will give it a try. Even if I end up preferring a different technique, it's always good to have more than one kinda tool and technique in your tool bag. I like how clean the end result looks in your video, a little rough in the star but the lines look amazing. The price for the 3 stencils is good to.
Good shit man
I just bought 2 of them. I used them to paint the stars on. Turned out great. Going to cut some stars next week. Thanks for the fast delivery David.
Right on. Glad it worked out for you.
I also use mine to paint. Worked surprisingly well.
Bought one, love it!!!
This looks like a very good template for those of us that are a bit "shaky" when using a dremel. However, I normally paint or stain my Union prior to cutting the stars. If you have to do any sanding of the edges of the stars, that is going to mess up the blue paint/stain on the union.
Is the template more noble than the Dremel bit? Will the bit wear out first, or will the template stars become ragged?
Thanks,
Jim
I've used both of your templates and they worked great!
Right on. Thank you. Im glad you like them.
@@strangebrewdesignwrx I sent you a message via ebay. I want to order 2 more. Thank you Sir.
@@strangebrewdesignwrx I also would like to order the American flag stencil wooden flag star stencil steel, and the Punisher steel flag stencil. I can't wait to get them. Your products ROCK!
Just ordered mine! Can’t wait to get it. It’ll make flag making so much quicker. Thanks!
If you want to help protect your bits put some type of thin spacer between your template and your wood. I took some 1/8 wood and taped it around the edge of the template and a few pieces in the middle of the template. You just lower the bit a little farther.
Did the star points come out sharp doing it this way? the larger part of the bit I would assume doesn’t get all the way into the star tips??
@@mr09R1 fairly sharp if I knew how to send a message with picture I would
Love it! I'm going to be ordering one as soon as I get paid. And then I'll be able to start getting paid! LOL
Hey great product and exactly the type of stencil I’m looking for!!!!
How do I contact you if I want a set of custom templates? I need bigger than what you have on Etsy...
Mine came in the mail today and I am thinking about heading home early to try it out. I have received several orders for flags that want them before Christmas. This template is going to help me make that happen. Thank you Matt!
Right on. Hope you like it. Should make life a bit easier on you.
Awesome job and great video!!
Thank you
Can you make one to use on a router with router guide bushing ? Upcut bit will
Leave smooth finish on stars .
Any way I can contact you ? Email ?
got mine yesterday, trying today Do you run the tool full rpm or is there a speed setting that works best? My little 107 bit sure seems to get really hot and the tip turned black. My depth is good. Also, I stained it, then used stencil, got a lot of tear out to deal with, hard to sand edges without removing the stain. If I can get it worked out, I can dee it's going to save a lot of time.
I received my template last week. It looks great, it's heavy-duty and should last far beyond me. I have not used it yet. I guess I'm being too cautious. I have a hand tremor and do not make the nice straight lines needed for my stars. I expect this to do the job!
Thank You for sharing this video, I just ordered 2 of your Star stencils. Can’t wait to receive them and try them out. 😊
You can expect a large multi order from me very soon. I currently use a “placing” stencil for glued on stars. The flags sell well since they give my flags a nice 3D look but the stencil looses wood from the gluing process from the stars. Any possibility you could design a “placing” stencil for the 1.25” stars I glue down?
Right on. Ya I thought about making one. I have had a few folks as for them
How well do the glue on star flags sell compared to the dremeled ones and the pain on stars?
Kurt C , obviously the dremel stars are permanent. I haven’t had anyone come back complaining about the stars coming off. They hold up well but I use a syringe to place the glue and take it all the way out to the edge of every star.
What speed was your dremel set at?
Well done, but for me I do the wavy flags so this won't work for me. I'm guessing other bits can be use because I would want the angles and corners to not be so rounded. That said, very nice work.
Nice job man. I’ve been looking for a steel template. I’ll pick one up from you on Etsy
Nice. Thank you. I appreciate it.
Great tool. I like it, I contacted to order some.
Thanks man. I have all these posted in my etsy store.
Im gunna go shopping
What bit do you use? When i do this the bit chews up the sides of the steel stencil...I haven’t been able to find a bit with just the very tip with a cutting edge..
I use the 107 and 105 dremel bits
Does anyone know if this would work with an acrylic template?
What dremmel bit did you use?
And where would you find a n attachment for the dremel tool
with a guide that rides along the template
How much does the Bit chew up the metal and how many uses do you usually get? Just wondering how soft the metal is? I ordered it btw. Hope it get's here fast. All I have left is the stars.
Just keep the bit away from the sides. These are carbon steel and are a bit harder than stainless. I set the bit low enough so just the shaft of the bit hits the sides. If the cutting edge hits the side it will chew up the bit.
I just purchased this template. I have been having a terrible time getting the depth right and have ruined 3 bits and one flag. Either to deep and burns, leaves a ton of debris in the star or to shallow and the slightest tilt ruins the dremel bit. I dont know what else to try. I can do them faster all freehand now by tracing and carving. I was very excited to get this stencil but so far not very pleased with the result.
If your getting smoke turn your speed down a tad. If your getting a lot of tear out you can score the edges with a razor knife until you get the hang of it.
Are the inside corners sharp? They look a little rounded or is that from the dremmel cutter not getting into tight spots.
They are not perfectly sharp because the plasma will only cut so tight. Plus the dremel bits are round.
I ordered one. It hasnt been delivered to me yet
Hey Matt... Question... If I sent you an image of my law-enforcement patch could you enlarge and put that in the star pattern similar to punisher or USAF logo on your Esty site?
I may be able to. You want to send me a picture.
@@strangebrewdesignwrx Thanks... I sent the images to your Etsy Account.
I got one coming now from you. Is it 11 gauge steel?
I make them out of 14 ga. 11 ga is kind of overkill for this application.
Sorry. I read it wrong. I cant wait to try this out
They do make getting the star ser up a bit easier and quicker.
Could you use a Palm router to do this rather then using a dremel ?
They are made to use the small dremel bits. So if you can get a small enough bit and see what your doing I don't see why not.
I found the finest tip CNC engraving bit to put on my palm router to use with this template. Unfortunately you can't get the entire cutting surface of the bit underneath the template like with the dremel and you'll end up eating away at the template like I did. I now have 1 of 50 stars that's out of shape. The CNC bit works amazing compared to the dremel though.
Nicely done video; I would be interested in getting some templates when you have them available.
I make all of these in house. Just let me know if you would like one.
Where do i go to order my star stencil?
etsy.me/3ejoY7V
Do you offer the CAD design or whatever it's called?
Yup. What are you looking to have drawn? I have a bunch of stuff on my etsy store so you can get an idea of what I make
What's the result if you use spray paint?
They don't seal very well so you may have some paint bleed if you coat it heavily
Perfect. I put on a glove and add a little pressure to the template. No bleeding of paint
How would I go about purchasing a template from you

I clicked the link it said no longer available?
I got it fixed. Thank you for letting me know.
Where can I purchase the metal template for the union?

Hey there I’ve ordered three of these on ETSY and still haven’t got a response from you still haven’t received them and I paid $130 can you give me a status please
Tracking should be on the order. It takes me a few days to make them.
Ok. Thanks. Just checking cause I ordered them oct 28 and it said delivery between nov 5-8. Looking forward to getting all 3 sizes
Got it great job. Thanks
@@Rod7355 thank you. Glad you like them!!
I DREW IT UP AND WENT TO A LOCAL LASER HOUSE . GOT 6 CUT DIFFERENT SIZES FOR UNDER A 100.00 BUCK . I SORRY BUT 50.00 BUCKS IS A BIT STEEP FOR ME..
Hey great job! Do you make the steel stencils custom? I have a need for some. Do you have an email or phone number?
Ya, you can hit me up on Instagram.
It seems to take to long just for one star
well yea compared to just being lazy and painting them.
good idea but takes too long for me, I could have done 3+ stars free hand in the same amount of time.
I tried to order something from you, but couldn't get anyone to return my call
I don't take orders over the phone. I do everything through email or my etsy store. Due to working in a metal building my phone doesn't work. If you shoot me an email I can get you what you need. Thanks
took about 1 minute and 10 seconds ,for one
do you sell a template for the flag of Ukraine?
I could make one.
What bit size did you use?
I just 105 and 107s
