  • This video is a walkthrough of how to replace a power steering pump on a 93 SC300. This will essentially work with all pumps that are attached to a 2jz engine along with some older 4Runner,Tacoma, and T100 pumps. The stainless steal hose I used was from Driftmotion.

Did you drain the rack. and flush it somehow? Also, is there an outboard filter of some sort?

Do you need a impact gun to remove that or pulley extraction

Did your rebuilt pump not last?

what did you do with the senor that connects to the other end of the high pressure power steering line. You mentioned plugging the vac lines that go to the one senor but what about the other senor, do you just not use it?

Also I did this job and you don’t need to remove the battery I’d you have bigger flex head wrenches to gets the banjo bolt. Banjo bolt is a 22mm and there is a fitting on the pump you might have to hold with a 24mm wrench. Would recommend disconnect neg battery cable as I grounded out the battery a few times touching the positive terminal

jvst20051 slowley turn your steering wheel to full lock both directions and hold each side for about 3 seconds. Things to keep in mind: make sure your reservoir doesn’t run out of fluid

Henry i already replaced the pump with a new one i burp it like u mention and yes i did add fluid before turning car on my question is why is it whining my old pump was leaking but never once did it whine

jvst20051 are you using DoT3 fluid? That sound might pump maybe breaking in. Drive the car and try to see if it goes away after a few day.

whats the benefit of having the stainless steal hose and how hard is it to replace? thanks again for the info.

David Deng An SS hose allows less flex from a traditional rubber line when put under pressure(especially if it’s a really old line) It’s a better slightly more responsive wheel turn. It’s pretty easy to replace. Just a the hose from the power steering pump to the rack and pinion. They come with fittings to adapt the hose. If you do it soon and get stuck, I’ll be glad to help you.

Be aware though that upgrading to a SS line deletes two vacuum hoses and you’ll need to plug those up. Removing theses may make it hard sometimes to turn at idle. It’s as simple as just reving up to get the pump going.
