Did anyone have the return of Threshold on their 2024 Bingo sheet? In two sets, even. It was cool to have the Barbarian Ring reprint but in Standard as well? Crazy. I do like the flavour of sneaky and smart rats in blue/black. Very Rats of NIMH. But in terms of the other creatures in the other colour combinations they are very much overshadowed. Which could be considered to be fitting for them, I guess?
Very interesting take, I like the idea of going "under" your opponent with unblockable creatures. I feel like you could have a bit more luck either by going more "aggro-discard", by dropping bellowing criers/floodcallers/bells and adding persistent marshstalkers/thoughtstalker warlocks/bandit's talent, or by going more grindy, dropping floodcallers/beastbinders and adding mindwhisker, wick's patrol, daggerfang duo, and huskburster swarm. I don't really like Floodcaller as a card in this deck, we don't have a lot of non-creatures, and the ones we do have are *very* slow, so it might even be better to just play Patchwork Banner instead if you're going aggro.
@@Triceratopping I honestly don't blame you, UB seems super confusing this set - you're supposed to fill your graveyard to get value, but ironically it's green that has the most recursion in this set, and the threshold payoffs are just... not great? 😅 Shoreline Looter is great, but Hermit sucks, Shucker sucks, Mindwhisker is underwhelming and Mentor is fantastic but it's surrounded by terrible support cards, so when you're brewing you're kind of cooking with water 🥴
I would personally swap out the nightwhorl hermits with mindwhiskers. They dont have evasion, which I guess breaks the theme a little, but I think that the card is much more interesting mechanically.
I was umming and aahing about including Mindwhisker, because I agree, it's an interesting card. I think swapping out the Hermits or Mentors would be okay.
Oh I won't lie I saw the thumbnail and was excited for a White Blue Fliers deck. Not sure why it's very obviously Blue Black on teh thumbnail. As a white blue fliers the deck seems to be missing something though. Not entirely sure what though. I think I would have liked to have more Threshold cards in the deck but I'm a weirdo who really liked Threshold. I always pronounced Whorl like Whirl but with an o instead of an i.
ngl I found this one a bit of a struggle, I thought there'd be more threshold in set along with ways to enable it but there's only 7 cards with threshold and only a small amount of mill/surveil. From what I understand the Rats aren't wonderful in draft compared to some of the others?
@@Triceratopping I liek the old standby of just using super cheap instants and sorceries to fill up the graveyard. But yeah I seached Scryfall for Bloomburrow specific Threshold cards and there weren't alot.

Can you tell U/B is out of my comfort zone? 😂
