I hope we continue to see Arrow reissuing films on 4K. I'm in Canada and don't have a region-free Blu-ray player, so any Blu-ray that was strictly region B is inaccessible to me. Now that I have a 4K setup, I would love to see 4K reissues of titles that weren't region-free on Blu-ray or those that were region-free but are difficult to find and/or deserve an upgrade.
Hey Graham. It’s never too late for a 2021 top ten list. For all my criticism of Arrow over the last year and we both discussed our mutual cynicism to the label there has been much to celebrate. I was surprised that the old ’True Romance’ 4K didn’t make the list. For me that was an amazing release that I’ve already rewatched twice. Such an awesome transfer. I never picked up ‘Mill of the Stone Women’ after its hefty price. Major Dundee was another title with a large price for a single movie. Arrow did up the ante with regards to the Boxsets. The William Greve & Bill Rebane Regional horror sets were a little stale but most other sets were rather inspired. Last year (2020) the Gamera collection was king and at least Arrow were clever enough to capitalise on the popularity of a solid Boxset. I will have to grab the ‘Dinner in America’ disc. I was wary of an unknown modern movie.
Great to hear about the True Romance, as I am really keen on upgrading from my DVD. This certainly adds to my temptation! Also, I recently saw Major Dundee in the streaming version of around two hours, and I really liked it. I do want to see the other cut, but not at that large price they are asking! If it gets a standard price release some day, which for Arrow is still not cheap, I might consider picking it up.
@@cinemaniac78 I’m always wary of upgrading to 4K, especially if I own the Blu-ray. However the vanilla True Romance Blu was a rather disappointing standard transfer. Whether you’re a fan of Tony Scott’s movies you cannot deny that his creations were grandiose and meticulously stylised. Arrow’s UHD transfer is able to capture the vivid energy of his intended vision. I was definitely happy to upgrade. I also bought that Major Dundee LE. It is a fabulous movie and a great package but I can’t help feel a little stung on the price. I’m a little disappointed in myself because everyone who bought that disc is letting Arrow know that a significant audience are prepared to pay that huge price tag. I wish I had held back and either waited for a sale or the Standard Edition. Lesson learned.
@@andygardner3910 Yes, I never did upgrade from DVD to the Blu-ray, and when I read the reviews, I waited while hoping for a better release. It sounds like this fits the bill. I just wonder if we will get one in the U.S. later this year or early next for the 30th anniversary, but I will keep an eye out for a decent price on the Arrow 4K. I actually also bought the screenplay a while back, so that is one I am looking forward to reading and also watching the movie again. Also, I am very much a fan of Tony Scott's movies, with True Romance probably being my favorite, though it has been far too long since I last watched it.

@@turntheblueiris4626 They did release another version shortly after, separating each into it's own slip. Those were nice. And Synapse in the US has recently released the set together. Not sure if it the same scan or not or their own.?

Suprised you didn't put Death Screams at no.1 (Joking!!). Pretty agreeable list. I might add Don't Go in the House (Nasty Edition) and True Romance in there somewhere but you've made good calls. Shawscope undisputed for no.1 - clear winner. Haven't actually seen Dinner in America yet, will make an effort to pick that up. Whilst they had some stellar releases, Arrow didn't release enough good horrors for me.
Argento has been around the block more times than Lewis Hamilton. I would love to get some new Argento blus though and upgrade my Neo Giallo dvd set, especially for Sleepless. Mother of Tears and Dracula 3d have serious so-bad-its-good currency... Do you think a "Forgotten Argento" would sell (4 days in Rome, Do You Like Hitchcock, Trauma etc etc etc)?
I've noticed when they announce a standard release for their box sets amazon and others have a tendency to drop the price of the Ltd edition to below what the price of the std edition is going to be. Bought my last 4 box sets from arrow that way
Well, that is certainly a nice list, and there are many films there I want to see. I actually haven't bought any Arrow releases since Tremors and Versus, so I don't have a top of 2021 with them at all, but there are a lot of great looking releases there. I do have the three Arrow Argento films on Blu-ray, and while they seem like great choices for 4K, I probably am satisfied with those editions I have (I have Suspiria and Tenebre from Synapse, also on Blu). I am holding out for Four Flies on Grey Velvet and especially Inferno on 4K, though, as those Blu-rays available don't seem quite as good (and I really do want to see Inferno in 4K--do you think Blue Underground will be putting that out soon with their recent output of 4K titles being so well received?) Django and the Demons films I liked, but I will need to see them again to know if I want to add them to my collection (as often is the case, they are titles that would make it if I had the space and funds for two or three times the size film library, but there are other films I would add first that I have not yet been able to). I think I have only seen one of the films in the boxsets you mentioned, though they are all ones I want to watch (that one I saw was the Miike Yokai film which I think I liked but never felt the desire to see again--speaking of that one, there is a sequel which I am sure is at the top of your to-see list, eh?) The Arrow release which I am most interested in getting at this point from 2021 is True Romance, as I never upgraded my DVD and haven't seen it for quite some time. I'm just trying to decide whether to give my current disc another watch and wait until we get a new release here in the U.S. as there are so many other titles already out and coming out that I really want to get, as well.
Not sure I managed to buy 10 Arrow releases from last year as I only bought a few sets and not gotten around to opening any yet. The Shaw Set seems to be a winner. I do have the True Romance Zavvi boxset & the Italian crime set to dig into at some point too. I also bought the Tales from the Urban Jungle set to upgrade my previous editions of The Naked City & Brute Force as they are both fantastic films, although I have kept my first edition of The Naked City as I prefer the previous original white poster artwork over the new red one.

I would rate Years of Lead a bit higher. No, the Case is Happily Resolved is better than anything on the western set.
The only boxset I have from Arrow is the Shawscope set and am very pleased with it bring on volume 2 lol.

I missed out on the Arrow box of Demons 1 & 2. Picked them up as stand alone releases. They are really nice. No ticket though.

I can agree on that, they made their reputation of horror. They can’t have ran out.

I have no doubt anything with Argento’s name on it would sell. I got the US version of trauma, I liked it. Haven’t seen the rest though.
