- BTS (방탄소년단) became the first K-pop group to speak at the United Nations on Sept. 24 2018, in an effort to help launch the United Nations' Generation Unlimited, an education and employment program for young people.
The group's leader, Kim Namjoon, spoke about self-empowerment and love: "We have learned to love ourselves, so now I urge you to 'speak yourself.'”

A little reminder this guy was part of Korea's brightest and smartest students, maybe some of you don't think or believe but BTS wouldn't reach the heights it reached if weren't for this young man, a 19 year old who saved Big Hit from bankruptcy and brought BTS to stardom, I do really believe in him and his intelligence. Well said! A very good speech. I have always heard of BTS, I hear some of their songs, but this is the first time I really pay attention to them. I'm not the kind who has a favourite artist or band but these guys, have so much depth in them, so genuine and talented and I can see why they've touched so many hearts all around the world with their personalities. I must say, I may be late to the party but I'm starting to be an ARMY!

@@CookieAiko He initially kept his name Rapmonster when they debuted ( BTS was initially a hip hop group) but as time went by, he realised that this name didn't represent him and his music ( BTS' music evolved ). So he changed his name to Real Me (RM)

The speech is the most beautiful speech I had ever heard. Did RM wrote it himself? If he did..well done..WOW.. I am an English major so I know a beautiful speech when I see one, his words was careful, delicate yet strong to the point. And he deliver it with PERFECT intonation and emotion..even the pronunciation was PERFEC....So proud, so proud of you Namjoon RM... BTS rule !!! LOVE YOU BTS !!!
I’m pretty sure he did. He may have gotten it professionally translated to English but the original Korean words are so similar to the songs he has written like Reflection, Always, Adrift and pretty much the entirety of mono. The style is also very similar to his fan cafe letters: tender, moving, empathetic, understanding and hopeful all at once.
He did write it himself. They showed him practicing until he got to America.

He's a literal genius with an IQ of 148. He's very introspective and thoughtful, as well. You just have to look at the songs he's written to know that he wrote this.

he said he watched them all with korean subtitles then english subtitles then no subtitles so try that choose a few kdramas that your willing to rewatch over and over-preferably one that has a lot of day to day stuff. then try to notice the linking of words and actions/gestures e.g they keep saying hjkhikasda whenever they receive stuff maybe that means thank you or you notice that a particular word comes up whenever they point at/offer a certain food or whatever maybe that word means that object etc.
I was preparing a presentation for a conference so I decided to listen to his speech.. But now I was told I won't be able to go or attend.. I keep fighting! Even though they doubt me, my time will come! In the mean time I continue to search for meaning and speak myself ❤️💜

Namjoon always speaks from the heart & always has something inspirational to say. It’s easy to make up something & make it out to help others or aspire others but to mean it is hard yet he always manages to do that. He was so nervous for this but hit this out of the park.

I sent this link to my 11 year old daughter to hear. You have to understand that for a 24 year old to deliver this message before the UN is incredible. But he believed in his message, and that's the energy he took before the leaders of the world.

I was a drug addict and lost everything in my life. I was randomly introduced to BTS at the start of Love Yourself series and the messages from your albums have helped me push through to get my life back on track. Maybe it's coincidence, maybe there was a reason, but for the first time in my life, I understand what it means to love myself. Namjoon was and still is like the dad/guardian I never had. Although I'm not as crazy about BTS as I was when I was 10, I have so much gratitude and love towards them that nobody (not even myself) can take away. These men have saved not only my life, but so many others. And if you're going through a rough patch right now, I urge you to listen to Namjoon. Even in such desperation, try step by step to love and speak yourself more and more. You deserve it. If nobody has told you today, you are valid, loved, cared for, and your life is so valuable. I love you.

I'm a 44 year old brazilian female teacher. In october 2013, i got to know BTS and they inspired me! Since them, i've been a dedicated fan and never regreted. I just get more and more proud of the young men and artists they are coming to be. I'm so grateful and I wish all my teenage students saw those sweet talented men as role models.

I am so proud of our boys, even after coming back to watch this video in 2024, 6 yrs later I can assure you BTS has changed the world and Namjoon's speech really made a difference. I am extremely fortunate to say this is the BTS I stan.
Okay, this might sound really dramatic but Namjoon truly inspires me a lot through his words and music. Because of them, I discovered who I am and know my goals and dreams. I have changed because of them and I am doing it for myself, not for anyone else. I found myself because of them. Well, before I know them, I was the type of person who doesn't have a dream and worry a lot about what others think of me. I was only like 14, I thought what others said was who I am and won't forgive myself for every mistake I did. I had 'B's in my grades, which I got blamed for every day, and those ppl made me felt like a worse person ever. Now, I'm 17 I have discovered myself, my goal is to be a successful architect. I got a full 4.0 gpa in high school and now applying to a university. I have accepted who I was, who I am, and who I hope to become. I am also confident af, what others think of me doesn't affect me anymore. Thank you, BTS for inspiring me and making my life better. You guys are the best things tht happen in my life. okay now go stream butter lol

They would be so proud of you. BTS should know the stories of you and people like you and us. They need to know they are changing the world, just like they hoped.
For those who are doubtful about RM 's capabilities as a writer well he is considered a lyrical genius in Seoul. He haa an IQ of 148, considered a literal genius. He is one of the top 1.3% students in South Korea, having scored a whooping 900 at the Korean preparatory for University(country known to have one of the highest standard in education system) . RM's interests include philosophy and enjoys writing prose and poetry.

my results are within the top 3% of my country and I don't think only educational qualities prove someone genius, just good at studies . I'm just saying your perception is wrong ,not denying that rm is a person of high intelect and wisdom.
@열재 The girlgroup was Glam which was formerly in BigHit agency. Kim Namjoon wrote the lyrics for their song Party and it is about supporting LGBT community.
RM is fluent in three languages and not so fluent in a few more.
I don't care where you are from, the color of your skin, your sexual orientation, rich or poor, you can relate to Namjoon's speech. He is talking of dreams, equality, making the right choices, being a decent human being and giving everyone a place to have a voice. So proud of Namjoon and BTS but even if you aren't a fan, you can still respect him for his conviction. I am proud of them for ushering hope and change.

Johnny Yes, you were definitely here when the speech was written so you probably know who wrote the speech right? I don' t know why it's hard to believe an artist can't write their own speech. They're SINGERS. They work with words all the time
" May be I made a mistake yesterday. Yesterday's me is still me ....." This one line literally gone through my heart, mind and soul. This speech was so real and encouraging that I can't express in words. Huge respect to BTS and Army .. Army makes the world's best fandom of one of the best humans in the world .. 💜💜

Try just making a speech in class 6 mins long with proper grammar while including sophisticated words. SHEEEEIIITT i would have been sweating and talking so fast out of nervousness while stuttering.

Is it weird that I don't get nervous when presenting? Whenever I'm making a speech or presenting, I say my words clearly, and look directly at the audience lol. I guess I'm good at public speaking?

In all seriousness, I've never been one to suddenly change my perspective or feel differently about myself because an artist or group that I like made a heartfelt speech or said to in lyrics. I've been an army since FIRE came out and I just feel so moved by this. Their efforts to reach out to all of us out here struggling really resonates within me. It's not just a common theme in their songs; they made a whole album, collaboration with UNICEF, and use their platform whenever they can (by the way, for those who don't know, RM stands for Real Me). I was watching the light slowly fade from around me but I think I might just chase it. I think I might just try hearing my voice again.
