imo I think the charm with old roblox games are the fact that they were mostly just passion projects by individuals made for fun since there wasn't any way you could make money off your games.
also i remember watching that phire video in 2014 which was when my interest in roblox 2006 first started which is funny now because 2014 is now as old as 2006 was in 2014
Now we get the problem, the corporate side of ROBLOX just wanted to make money without even reaching out to community. They abandon us, after we grew them big. It was ROBLOX mistake who became "incorporated" in the first place.
Yes, old roblox or mid roblox games are often nostalgic to look back into, like the example given in the video, peaspod's The Pod Games, since I remember playing it all the time, and being able to see roblox or builderman in the game. But would I want those games from back then to come back? No. The reason why people think that old roblox games were better is that they are either: 1. New players who assume everything old is good and gold 2. Those blinded by nostalgia or, 3. Forgotten how the old engine was way more simplistic Yes, they can argue that the community was *slightly* better, but the games back then compared to now? No. All it takes is to play a old roblox simulator like Retrostudio to find out that those games were very simple compared to now, and yes, while nostalgic to some of the games we played back then, you would get bored easily with most games back then. The fighting games will always be the ones where this boredom doesn't arrive as quick as most games of the time, but playing it for a while does bore you out too. Not saying that roblox games now wouldn't bore you out too, but here's the thing. There will be that one game or few on the site today where you wouldn't find it boring, but putting me now in old roblox would just be p a i n As you grow older, those games tend to fall out more than the genres you're currently leaning towards. It's always fun to just hop on those old roblox simulation games to relive some nostalgia after spending more money on Azur Lane, but that's where it ends. TL:DR, Blind nostalgia can affect what we think or thought old roblox was.
I can agree with that statement especially with Nintendo-type games as of now due most of the games are [Content Deleted] even though everyone on the platform should already know most of them belong to Nintendo. RIP Nintendo Minigames.
One of the reasons why I enjoyed Roblox so much when I was much younger is because of how small the community felt compared to today. There would always be something new to discover on the home page and users felt friendlier. It may sound weird but I was a fan of the limitations Roblox had graphic wise, the blocky worlds and polygonal characters gave Roblox a personality. Nowadays its looks exactly like what you said, a cryptocurrency company lmao. And a huge reason that Roblox kept me coming back to their site was Tix. Logging on everyday would grant you 10 Tix, save up enough Tix and you could buy stuff from the catalog. As someone who's parents wouldn't spend money on strange websites, this was a great feature
Organizing anything close to 2010-2015 is impossible due to the scale of Roblox and the ammount of users. If people were able to appreciate that ROBLOX has always been a corporation and is gonna make logical choices dependant on wether or not they would gain Value from ROBLOX.
I liked 2013-2017, but that's just when I joined. I think everyone feels nostalgic for when they joined, they were kids. Kids who were much more easily entertained and blissfully ignorant to all of the problems.
@@sweppic Do you mean the people with like R6 and Yellow skin? You don't have to be in an era to like it. That's like saying you can't listen to any music made prior to when you were born.
@Zwnj look, i understand that popular games shouldn't have a lifespan of 1 day, but when I want to go out of my way to discover new games, i don't want the same front page game shoved into my face. Keyword searching is a perfect example of this. I search up a general term and an overpopular game with the 2 matching LETTERS will be the top results. After all, why develop games, when a developer with his game on the front page for 5 years will hoard that spot? Keep in mind there aren't different games on each category, Brookhaven RP will show up in both popular and up n coming.
@Zwnj The removal of genres is still stupid tho. Because with genres, you can theoretically have multiple "front page" games, one front page for each genre. I'd argue that could give games MORE exposure due to people not just giving up on searching and clicking whatever's on the front page. Roblox might've meant well by removing genres, but really it's just stupid. And I think it hurts the game more. People who can't find a game in the genre they want are just going to leave.
@@bugjams plus there’s the fact that if a game is truly popular, it’ll stay that way for a good while. Just look at work at a pizza place. That game’s kept a large player base for as long as I can remember.
You'd think it'd be better with a literal search tab, but no, you're just bombarded with spam. The really cared about games are shoved under scams and tycoons. Literally just search up adopt me.
Old and modern Roblox have their own pros and cons. Old Roblox had a really charming "art style" and early 2000s feel to it, the physics were a lot more wacky and unpredictable. It was a simple but fun sandbox game that's easy to get into. Due to its relatively small community, there was room for more interactivity between the players and the staff and was much easier to get your creations noticed. Modern Roblox graphics wise is objectively superior, more polished, and has a lot more opportunities for game creation. I've always seen current day Roblox and classic Roblox as separate games, as its changed A LOT over the years. Overall, Old Roblox is great for its charm and simple premise while modern Roblox is great for its accessibility and potentional for game development. tl;dr they're both just fine, just very different
I think that is what really sold me to Roblox back then, I joined in 2011 and during that time I was nostalgic for the early 2000s (still am lol) and Old Roblox made me feel like I was in the past with the smaller community back then.
"new roblox is better than old roblox" Ehh... New Roblox is much better than old Roblox IF WERE TALKING ABOUT graphics, engine improvements, FPS cap, moderation, customer service, and popularity. But the Roblox corporation itself have gone quite egregious over the years. They have done practices that were absolutely iniquitous. For instance, take a look at the Ruben Sim lawsuit. It shows that Roblox safeguards pedophiles within the platform while attempting to accuse and sue the very people who criticizes the flaws within the corporation. Hypocrites! From experience, the old Roblox community was much more friendly than the new Roblox community. Don't get me wrong, there was still toxicity and e-dating during old Roblox, but it wasn't nearly bad as today. Just take a look at condo games. Yes, condo games were a problem before, BUT it's much worse today. This is because there are much more popularized and organized Discord servers that are dedicated to uploading these sexual games. One may say that such games are easily taken down, but that's incorrect. I've seen recently uploaded condo games that were taken down AFTER 30 MINUTES. It's easy for an innocent child to find themselves into condo games because a pedophile could friend request an innocent child and invite them into these disgusting games. Also, Roblox cares more about sponsored events rather than authentic ones. Back then, events in Roblox were quite fun and adventurous. For example, the egg hunts before 2019 were immersive, adventurous, and fun. But now, it transformed into boring dev hunts. And now, Roblox publishes low budget and bland events that only care about advertising their sponsors.
Yes and no. Old Roblox has a lot of nostalgia and good memories associated with it, but buildwise was pretty bad. The games don't compare to the ones we have today, but they were fun and top notch for the time.
I agree with you. I would say the peak of roblox was 2020 since the game mechanics are very close to 2022 mechanics and it wasn’t *as* toxic. The 2020 egg hunt was the biggest downfall in event history, but it was atleast better than 2022 Samsung and Spotify events. Roblox didn’t get into barely any drama in 2020 but like 500 in 2022. 2020 still felt like roblox cared for us, but now in 2022 they care about NFTs and other crap. Look, I only joined roblox in early 2017 so I am *NOT* an og. But looking back at old roblox videos, the quality from 2006 - 2013 looks like a dog peed on a cat. 2013 - 2016 quality just feels a bit dull watching. 2017 - 2019 had a good amount of charm but 2020 just felt like everything was perfect. Y’know? You can disagree with my opinion, but don’t make this a twitter argument or your father is going to disappear.
I joined Roblox in early 2013 and from years i’ve seen, “old roblox” felt better as they were less of a robux filled game and more of a passion project, they felt more fun for the time being and games didn’t have large amount of robux purchases, however newer roblox is better as graphically and overall as games change they are better in every way but feel less lifeless compared to then.
I'd probably say 2014-2018 was better, Egg Hunts were still good, Events were good, but newer things like R16 were introduced 2016 was the beginning of the end, but 2016-2018 was still a good time Back then, Anthro was our biggest concern, and now Oof is gone and most audios are gone 2011-2014 was also very good, 2011-2016 was just the golden age where you could enjoy +30fps and better graphics, but before ROBLOX fell to capitalism I probably only think this because I joined 2016 😅
as someone that joined in 2010, 2010-2014 really was peak sure, everything was a lot simpler back then but it was good - things weren't anywhere near as monetized and you had some people recreating entire games in roblox's engine like resident evil 4 while giving it a roblox spin or games like demolition derby (the fact there hasn't been ANY game like this in 2023 is a shame) or robloxity games nowadays are a lot more complex and the dev tools roblox gives you are INCREDIBLE but the company and community are just so much worse than they were 9 years ago and it's depressing the best roblox would be the community & roblox company of 2010-2014 with the modern dev capabilities of 2023 imo
Old Roblox really had it's charm. The oddities of the music, the community at the time, and the nostalgia it presents itself to many people. Regardless, it is still looked at with too many rose-colored glasses by everyone. 2012/2013 or so is when I see the transition from "Old Roblox" to a kind of Middle Ages, where the charm is still present to a certain degree, and random games can still pop up as you have mentioned, but in general the site and front page developed it's more serious atmosphere that remains to this day. The corporatism of Roblox became really prominent in 2016/2017, which I think is when the last leftovers of Old Roblox had died. Though this is impossible to truly pinpoint dates on. "Old Roblox" for some like Phirefox is 2009, while for others it is 2013, or 2015, perhaps 2017 for younger players, and the newest of them may even see anything pre-COVID as "Old Roblox". I personally never see myself wishing that Old Roblox would come back. The nostalgia was fun, the simplicity is compelling, and the memories are vivid, but the truth is that Old Roblox was simply that. It is still very much possible to meet new people and form a community full of fun on Roblox, it's just simply that these communities are in Roblox now, since Roblox itself doesn't have a coherent community anymore. You simply have to look for what you like rather than follow the platform. This new wave of communities within Roblox rather than Roblox itself being a community is arguably a good thing. The site is now allowed to grow in multiple directions, and developers themselves can get much more support and attention rather than the site itself taking all of the credit. I am cautiously optimistic for the future of Roblox, and I am cautiously nostalgic for the past of it.
Personally I think roblox and the devs on the platform went really corporate in around 2019 and onward. 2017 and 2018 I feel is when roblox was modernized just enough to keep up with everything else, but still had the charm old roblox did.
@@captainszasz5836 I'll agree partially. The fact that they kept legitimate Egg Hunts for 2017 and 2018 goes to show they still had the old style at least somewhat in mind, but at the same time the removal of tix, the end of Giftsplosions, and the workings of Athro showed the companies shift to the new mindset they had. 2018 is the first year when I'd say there is really no elements left that Old Roblox possesed. All of this talk over shoving the end of certain eras to certain years is semantics anyways. Large general trends on a platform of millions can't nicely be put into any timeframe. On top of that, it is clear that the definition of "Old Roblox" is unfortunately constantly being pushed to later dates. Phirefox thought Old Roblox was 2009 and beforehand, I always considered it 2013 and beforehand, a few years back it was 2015 and beforehand, and now even 2019 is seen by some as days long gone.
@@Marshall1q. Nothing past 2013 is Old Roblox, I'm saying the last remnants of Old Roblox that had remained died around 2017. By this I mean the occasional random front page games, the platform-hosted events, forums, etc.
The biggest thing I miss is the front page. I've been playing since 2014 and I see games stay on the front page for longer periods of time and with more players. The "Front Page Dillema" as I call it, is similar to the domino effect. Brookhaven gets on the front page for a bit, new players start playing, and because new players play it, it gets more popular and the cycle continues. And because game discovery sucks, new users will only play Brookhaven and Adopt Me making it harder for new games to get on the front page and become popular. Brookhaven has over 100k players on it regularly and it is incredibly hard to find a server with players that know how to use chat.
yea i hate noobs in brookhaven who cant even chat JUST 1 SINGLE HECKING LETTER i mean like cant atleast just 1 DUDE WITH ATLEAST 1 BRAINCELL CAN CHAT LIKE WTH I CANT RP IN BROOKHAVEN IF ALMOST EVERY NOOBS HAVING A THROAT ISSUE THAT THEY CANT EVEN CHAT JUST 1 SINGLE WORD
i just miss when the game felt less corporate, i also miss some of the old features they removed (tix, parties, unlimited friends and best friends, forums, multiple builders club tiers, actually good games page) it reminds me a lot of youtube, they just remove random stuff you took for granted and once its gone it doesnt feel the same (at least on youtube mobile)
@@Gibshinboi If roblox kept tix, we didn't need to buy robux and roblox would think of a new way to make money. If roblox kept forums however, well, I'm not a magician but that was our last resort we could even communicate as a players outside the game. But just think of roblox forum as Twitter. Yes, you could see some toxicity, but at the end of the day, people still use it as a social media.
the only thing that i disagree with is tix, there was alot of tix bots back then, you could easily create a new account, join your main's game then farm tix
@@DylanZeee I feel like the only reason people could easily farm tickets was only because roblox just didn't try to make it better. They could've added checks to make sure you weren't farming. i.e: don't give them tix from the exact same account joining that joined an hour. They should've added a one day tix per person limit or something like that. To combat people just making new accounts, they could log your IP with your account so you couldn't join from the same IP. Those were just a few from the top of my head.
I feel like there was definitely more passion back then. Just take a look at how events were run back then. Events were one of the things I really looked forward to
I generally play RetroStudio, a simulation of old Roblox, more than I play modern Roblox. It's just a lot more fun to me. The community is a lot smaller, and it feels like you can genuinely make a game and have people play it and enjoy it. By comparison, modern Roblox is filled with professional development teams which no independent developer could ever get close to. It also keeps a lot of the old Roblox charm, with the old blocky aesthetic that modern Roblox doesn't have.
I play RetroStudio also :) I’ve played ROBLOX since 2013 and it’s grown a lot since. Although I use a classic ROBLOX style, I appreciate new aspects and old aspects.
The older we get, the more we cherry-pick our own past and see it through rose tinted glasses. It’s not necessarily bad, but we should also acknowledge the bad stuff as well.

What I for sure miss about old Roblox is for sure Roblox's interaction with its own community. When forums were around, I remember how chatting with moderators was a casual everyday experience. Mods like legoseed, InceptionTime were the mods that were the most active, with the former being the nicest (hehe) Also, Roblox NextLevel streams on Twitch is also something I dearly miss. They served as a perfect way not only to showcase community creations, but also to generally speak with audience through chat. One time in one of 2017 streams, they created a challenge, in which you had to record a video of you completing a certain task in a certain game, it was a fun and creative idea, something that hasn't been done ever since. Of course, the community is simply too big to organise these features, but I still believe they can be achieved one way or the other by sacrificing some important bits to please the masses. I joined in 2016, so perhaps I'm not in position to talk about old Roblox, but I'm still glad that I got to experience the goofiness and charm of this era. Current Roblox and the Roblox when I joined are different like day and night, even the "Online Dater" avatars that used to common in this time are a rare occurrence.
as a 2010 player one of my FAVORITE things about roblox was roblox showing off front page games or just simply games they found cool with the game reviews series they had, it helped me find a lot of good games i loved as a kid like space knights or roblox battles now they just don't even communicate with anyone unless it's to change the rules or policies
The first thing i liked the most when playing roblox was of how expansive the platform itself was, the idea of being able to make a game anything without limit was such a cool thing to me, it meant a crap ton of games to check out and play just for the fun of it. Second is the physics, as janky as they are even today, it was honestly funny to see characters just turn into pieces when they die, similiar to legos. I started in 2015, still playing solely just to play with friends, otherwise i really don't find any fun in any of the games i even try playing. I should probably quit since im graduating too and honestly the platform really feels just empty of everything there once was for young me. Great video nonetheless!
One thing i really hate with physics today is the fact that you can randomly flip and lose control over your character if you run fast enough on an object, which is extremely annoying, another thing is the acceleration of the walkspeed, that used to not be a thing until they added it and controling your character just felt worse. One thing I am glad got fixed in newer roblox atleast is the going through the map if you fall fast enough. Atleast if they were gonne tweak physics like this, for example making it more difficult to control your character the faster you run because of the acceleration or the trip thing, they could make a feature in roblox studio to customize physics so all of these super speed games or games where you got lots of speed can be more enjoyable.
UGC is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, you have some really High quality and cheap stuff that is surprisingly varied, but on the other hand you have a degenerative cesspool of crappy items.
They really didn't put any feature that let's you group colored variants together, you have to have a separate item for each color or variant of item you make 💀
i just feel like the general style UGC looks way to different from the style of roblox items. They rarely actually have textures, opting for flat colors most of the time, while roblox items usually have loud, easily visible textures. There are also a million other things that are vastly different, such as the build quality, that make it impossible for me to implement UGC in to my avatar
As somebody who made their first account in 2011, I have mixed feelings about Modern roblox, The things I love about modern roblox is the increased customization features for avatars and better roblox studio features that helps developers make some really cool games. The things I miss about old roblox for me personally is really the charm, it felt more like a platform "for players, by players" and there were better games back then in my opinion, like more challenging survival games, better obbies, and great building games. ofc 8 year old me didn't care much so it's more about nostalgia than anything really.
Avatars has less customization, because you can no longer buy items from the catalog without giving roblox your real life money. With tickets you could atleast save for stuff and buy cheap things that you can customize with your character.
I loved the variety of games in the past and how everyone seemed to have a chance to create a game that might get popular at least briefly. Now it's literally impossible to find any game on the front page that isn't a university-level heavily scripted game that might as well have it's own spot in the mobile app store. Not to mention it's ALWAYS the same games, and you are doomed if you hope to find a new gameplay experience you haven't seen every day for the past year. I just want to play some new, creative games, and hang with friends! Nowadays I don't enjoy playing ROBLOX (except for Robot 64, which practically isn't a ROBLOX game). And the new graphics (specifically character models and animations) are ABYSMAL. The whole point of ro BLOX was to have a fun little square blocky dude to play as, I don't want to be an action figure or a semirealistic human. There was never a reason for them to change the animations of the main character model, even things as minor as having the arms and legs slightly swing to the side while walking instead of brushing against your torso was a horribly ugly change and completely unnecessary. I LOVED the old walk and jump. Then they tried adding elbows and knees to A RECTANGULAR PRISM...
Same here, I really miss the old front page when there was different genres and you were always introduced to new fun games, I haven’t enjoyed playing for a while either, simply because it’s difficult to find new, fun games. And don’t even get me started on the realistic avatars, it ruins the point of roblox
I personally think that nostaliga is different for every person. You can have nostaligia for the year 2020 and others can have it for 2010 You can’t choose what is nostaligic for you because it just is . It’s a feeling for happiness and old memories.
Yes, I COULD NEVER HAVE NOSTALGİA AT WHEN I JOİNED, because at 2017 there were full of bullies argued about my join date and so they made me hate Roblox they literally DİSCRİMİNATE all other newer dates than 2015 they think is where Roblox is way worse
The updates are great and everything but the thing I miss most about old Roblox was how easy and fun it was to make games. Everything now is so complicated and professional that it’s almost impossible for younger people to make anything that will get visits.
I'm a 2008 player. Started as a guest, made an account in 2009. I was seven at the time I started playing roblox. I think I liked older roblox more just because it was a far more wholesome experience. There was a lot of charm to it, and the community backing it up was far smaller than it is now, it felt different. Despite liking it more, I cannot lie and say I don't enjoy modern roblox more, because I do enjoy it more. There's a lot of garbage and I hate a lot of people that play it, but when I'm just hanging out with friends, playing stupid stuff and having a good laugh, it's just far more enjoyable.
i miss tix and zero censorship when chatting in game. now, hardly anyone chats unless it's in a game like town of robloxia or some shit like that. although the gameplay aspect of roblox back then was horrendous, the ability to chat freely with others makes up for it. you could be in a server with only one other person and still have some enjoyment just by talking to eachother. im grateful that i was able to experience roblox back then.
Tix being around now would've meant roblox as a corporation would've been even more desperate for money and you can still see and partake in many conversations ingame, it's just that most of the time they're not worthwhile at all.
@@baileymash no, Tix if going around by today standards, would be pretty fair in term of economy cause most games or platform since you could collect those and redeem it to prove a microtransaction. But again, since the problem was botting and autotix farms, it was ROBLOX to blame at how easy it is to make an alternative account. Imagine you could set up an account in one minute, what about with bots? you know what I'm talking about.
@@Gibshinboi that's not the case, you really didn't remember how they even censor some of the most mundane things that a person could say? even in foreign language?? Like it's a blasphemy we can't talk with our friends in languages other than english for no excusable reason. I'm assume you didn't know roblox as a whole, to think that "no censorship" means we can spits out every zoo animals from the mouth. That's the case of CnP's and Slenders if you're wondering.
for those who have a short attention the answer is it depends on why u started playing roblox in the first place and why u enjoyed it when u started and what aspect of roblox u enjoy the most the socialization aspect the games or whatever else
The only reason I would want old roblox back is because of the avatars, now we got layered clothing and rthro like wth, old ones were so simple and I love it
They're pretty much optional and in my personal observation, seem to be pretty unpopular with the community, so you shouldn't really care like it's "the end of classic avatars!!!111!!!11!!1!!1" or something.
And avatars Isnt that important i feel like roblox thinks to much about the avatars the thing that is important is the games and that it should be fun oops i Said games i meant experiences lol
as someone who's been playing for 12 years (jesus I'm getting old), the two just. aren't comparable. Modern Roblox (2014-2022), Neoclassic (2009-2013) and Classic (2006-2008) are all such vastly different ecosystems that they just aren't the same game. it's a completely different environment. it really depends which you were around for, Classic/Neoclassic are definitely my favourite, they just have more of the roblox charm to them. modern roblox games are Games *on* Roblox, NOT Roblox-Games.
OG roblox players did not just play roblox cause it was the ‘best engine’ or anything. Back then we played old roblox not cause of updates to make it more close to corporate competitors but how the community made fun out of the resources we were given. Use minecraft as an example for simplistic concept but the community constantly making new games/mods for players to enjoy.
To me 2014-2016 Roblox was a good era especially the 2014 time. I remember playing the Original Murder Mystery with The satisfying walking sound and horror games was legit horror back then instead of a simulator
If anyone is wondering, the incident that toastedcherries mentions at 7:30 was when a user (potentially hacked) posted a link to the wayback machine which showed "cheese pizza" . This incident is one of the leading factors as to why the forums were removed.
For me, old roblox was great because of how small the community was. Almost everyone knew each other and there always mutual friends. For example, I used to play a lot of TPS and the competitive scene was amazing. Everyone knew who the best keeper(bonebone99) was, who the best dribbler(MoloProject) was and everyone made teams and fought in a league. We would come online at 5 pm or something and somehow always meet each other and have a good time just trying to beat each other. Had a duo where we just had amazing chemistry and would always message each other and play on the same team, even got to the point we were so good at passing with each other that the opponents just leave when they see our name in the player list. Also how the creator would sometimes join the server and play with us and chat about the game. Also used to play a lot of Call of Robloxia and sometimes every few weeks I would meet the devs and talk about how and where the game was gonna update and what they were planning to do. You would join the game at 8 pm and always meet the same guy and become rivals on who could kill each other the most just about every single day. Now its just a big gigantic pool of people that you would see and never meet again. Just for that alone old roblox was way better. The games now just have no heart or charm to it and it feels like theres no passion to the games anymore and everyone is just trying to make money.
2011-2014 really stick out to me because.. well, that's when I downloaded ROBLOX for the first time. I even have my oldest avatar. I definitely think the branding of new roblox _SUUUUCKS_ compared to old roblox, whilst the new website definitely has it's pros, I can't not prefer the old designs to the new ones, gimme back the old ROBLOX logo >:[ ROBLOX will always be a good game _(or games)_ but it's definitely aged over the years, some ways good, some ways bad. Hoping to see ROBLOX improve in the future, awesome video!
Why that music at the end bro you making me cry 😭 Bit seriously, this video is literally true and was produced perfectly. Good job! Sorry for being 2 weeks late
game quality has drastically improved since the beginning, but game replayability has slowly been going down since 2016 and started accelerating in 2020
I recently visited the original underground war game by Stickmasterluke for the purpose of getting some badges that I never got when it was still popular. Aside from the weapons and point system being semi-glitchy the game is surprisingly still playable. Even the badges can still be collected.
I think old Roblox had this incredibly dream-like atmosphere. Even looking back on it now. The poor graphics and stock sound effects made it... weird. I'd really love newer Roblox devs to utilize the setting of old Roblox, because I think it's ripe with potential. Like yes, Nostalgia Zone exists, but it's just a replica of old Roblox. I'd love a modern tycoon, simulator, story, or horror game to use 2007 Roblox as a *setting.* Using modern scripting technology, you could have the old aesthetics of Roblox while still keeping the game technologically modern. Imagine what you could do with that. For example; A horror game that takes place in 2007-09 Roblox, with modern models and scripts to really mess with the player. Like having glitches or stuff happen that shouldn't have been possible back in those days. I hope somebody realizes the potential of something like that.
I can imagine an analog horror game using the pre-2010 graphics and style in a liminal/backrooms-y kind of way, where the player explores completely lifeless yet fully intact maps.
tbh i don’t think 2017 should be considered “old roblox” yet. i joined in early 2018 and i have nostalgia for the old UI and jump button. but i don’t believe it’s actually old roblox. i, unlike all those 5 year olds who joined in 2020, feel actual weird nostalgia for old roblox even though i have never played it and know how clunky and glitchy it was. maybe just an overdose on Retrostudio. i don’t think roblox is trash nowadays, they advanced in technology so much in the past 18 years. the only problem is the bad actors that ruin everything for everyone, even their lives. that and the metaverse talk with no touch in community and so on and so forth.
idk man retrostudio really felt different. it has a whole community of people who actually play this game and it has a whole fully working version of windows 7-8 roblox studio
Personally, I joined Roblox in 2015 at a young age, now entering my teenager era, anything before 2019 was fun Games like natural disasters, Roblox deathrun, lumber tycoon 2, Pokémon go and brick bronze and more are either taken down or have low player counts I dislike current Roblox but I still play it! In old Roblox, there is was like no online daters and nobody argues, we were all social and we're all happy, sharing creations, playing together, now it's 9 year old emo people So if I could go back to 2015 at my age, I would
I feel as though people are drowned in nostalgia to the point where they kind of stop appreciating new roblox. In my opinion, roblox currently could be better, but it is definitely better than old roblox. The only thing that’s gotten worse is the community though.
I agree with you. but I do what to point out why toxicity in the community grew is just like what the video say and that is as the community grew, the toxicity grew as well. And that mean as more normal people will join, more annoying people will join at the same time just like what the video say when it talk about the Roblox community.
@@Autostraaad i wouldnt say moderation sucks, i mean they have to use bots since how can thousandish(?) ppl moderate around 3 bil+ accounts so theres obviously going to be some screwups
i agree, they have the same behavior as boomers just talking about the good ol’ days (feelsOldMan). they can’t move on from the past. but the community has definitely gotten worse tho which is inevitable since the game is getting more and more popular
I started playing Roblox after watching two older kids playing it at the public library. This was around 2010-11 when I was 9-10. I started playing it at home soon after and, regardless of how its changed, it'll always hold a special place in my heart because it was actually the first online computer game I ever played.
As someone who has played since 2009, I can confidently say that the last good year on Roblox was in 2015. Everything went downhill after that year the platform changed way too much.
makes my heart feel a certain way when i look at old roblox, everyone was much friendlier and it wasn't about the company raking in money, it was about enjoying your experiences and making friends along the way.
Hey , I'm a developer for the Neighborhood of Robloxia V.4 game. I did a lot of the fake coregui stuff, and other scripting adventures for it and it was really cool to see it on your video.
The newer Roblox is 100% better then old Roblox in most things or just the same thing but more people. But old Roblox does have a charm of a smaller community of people making things because “why not” and “I want to make something today.”
as somebody who has been in the old roblox community since ~December 2016, i believe that new roblox is actually better, however there are some aspects of old roblox that i wish were still in today's roblox: 1. game discovery, the game discovery back in 2014-2018 was amazing and it was very easy to find games that you wanted to play. however, i believe in 2018 it started to go downhill after scam bots started botting games to the top of the popular page, and roblox had to modify how the popular games tab worked. now, you only find the same games over and over again which is a contributing factor as to why i haven't been playing roblox as much as i used to in 2014-2017 2. the community, the community was something that you just had to experience at the time or, in my opinion you wouldn't really understand it. i believe that the older community was better in a few ways, although i do agree that toxicity also existed in the old community and that's something that you can't really get rid of no matter how much you try to minify it 3. events, the events were way better than what we have now, which is one of the rare exceptions i give to the "old roblox is better" mindset, i personally believe that i would probably play roblox more than i do now if we had the old way of events back id like to comment on tickets, tickets were not very good and in my opinion had a good reason for removal, roblox was not a multi billion dollar company and i'm sure they were losing money because of tickets, so they removed tickets. looking back, tickets were also very easily exploitable if you botted your game. if you botted your game to 100K visits (1 visit = 1 tix) you could have gotten 100K TIX, or 10,000 ROBUX, which would easily destroy the roblox economy. i do however agree that there should be a way to make things free like shirts, pants, t-shirts, hats, etc. on the catalog
if roblox didn't fall down the hole of being a scummy platform, similar to how osu! hasn't devolved in charm over the years due to the developer not liking money, pretty much NO ONE would say old roblox is better.
Yeah, we all love to look back at the good ol' days through rose tinted glasses. But speaking as someone old enough to remember Roblox circa 2008, I can personally vouch that things have changed, for better and worse. Bad games have been a problem since time immemorial - all that's changed is in what ways the games are bad. These days they just keep up the trend of being lazy and derivative, albeit with more polish than the plethora of "feed or be eaten by" or "cart ride into" games from the late 2000s to early 2010s. Instead of being rough around the edges to the point of cutting yourself on them, nowadays they just strike me as soulless. But soulless grind isn't a new sensation either - remember all those tycoon games? They amounted to little more than "do repetitive task to make numbers go up to make said repetitive task increasingly faster." The limitations of Roblox back then were a blessing and a curse since it forced people to get more creative, but there was only so much you could ever do. That Six Flags game from back in the day was revolutionary for its time, but it's downright spartan even for early 2010s standards. Bottom line, games have found new ways to be bad while still taking notes from the "classics." I just wish I wasn't so omniscient with my concerns about temporarily replacing Crossroads with some shitty skate park themed after a shitty Disney show that everyone would inevitably forget about in a couple weeks, including the target demographic whose attention spans are too short to have even read past the first sentence of this comment. I had a feeling that would only be the beginning. Unfortunately, I was more correct than I could have imagined. As for moderation, back in my day there wasn't even a filter. It's funny to think how we've gone from not enough moderation to laughably overly sensitive automated moderation. It's not easy to get it right, but someone's gotta revise the code a little bit. Events used to be more exciting because they usually weren't locked behind a paywall like Easter eventually was, and they could be enjoyed on literally any game not just a select tailored few. I know that was to cut back on farming, but it made things less special in the process. Overall, Roblox had to adapt to keep with the times. I get that. But as much as I'm fully prepared to admit the golden age wasn't as glamorous as some may be led to believe, when I look at modern Roblox, something's just gone. A lot of charm was lost in favor of appealing to the lowest common denominator. As much as the game has improved from a development standpoint, with the way things are going, you're probably better off just learning Unity instead.
I'd don't say that the quality back then was better than what we have now, but i miss the simplicity of the old Roblox times. Games were easier to find too.
I think its just mainly people's views based on when they joined. I joined in early 2015 and I think the game went downhill from the much larger appeal to companies that want to put their ads onto gullible kids. However I also see it as a great building game and while the front page games are a mixed bag there are some really good games that rival triple A games.
My Roblox experience was a mix of external factors. However, it doesn't disqualify how much it means to me at heart. I remember playing the game back in 2012 and, being the 7 year old kid I was, thought it was pretty ahead of its time despite the simplistic, but unlimited potential it had. I never thought much about it back then, but nowadays I feel some sort of eccentric charm to it with heavy nostalgia. Roblox evolved of course, but not too rapidly which made game development special (in my humble opinion). For example, I still remember to this day about Phantom Forces around 2015 and comparing it to Call of Robloxia in 2013. It's crazy just how fast time goes to be honest. New Roblox has gone a long way since I first started to play, it's nice seeing that. Be that as it may, coming from someone who played it for over a decade, I truly miss how Roblox used to be. I know this is too micro, i.e. not really not taking into account about the controversy of moderation and such, but it felt like another lifetime. If I was able to timetravel to meet my younger self, I'd tell him to write down every game he played. My only regret was not remembering long forgotten games which I wish to introduce to my newer friends that are similarly new to Roblox. Overall, old Roblox doesn't necessarily mean Roblox now is just a shadow of its former self -- I still play it almost everyday (sad, Ik) -- yet I can't really imagine myself pulling away from it.
ok, let's see. i know roblox since 2011 (lemme say it again. i KNOW the platform, doesn't mean i could play it at that time, because i was too young and my family couldn't afford a pc back at that time, so most of my roblox interaction from 2011-2016 was literally browsing through the website as a guest and watching videos.), and since then i really liked what roblox was offering me, a environment where players could interact, fight, or just appreciate the magic in a lego styled colorful world. which is a great way to describe the game style from that time, being very characteristic and for me, appealing. while nowadays roblox doesn't have much of that yknow, "magic" that caught my eye back there. however, i still find myself enjoying Roblox a lot even though it lost the magic that got me interested in the first place. is old roblox better? probably not, because not only was the platform somewhat small back at that time, but the community pretty much didn't existed yet. is 2022 good? eh... i don't think so. roblox on a whole is now soulless. collaborating with literally everything for some sweet munny, and pretty much not caring about it's community, having almost zero interaction with it's players nowadays. are we gonna play it anyways? well, i will, what about y'all? (oh yea also that's literally just my opinion and you're free to disagree.)
i know roblox since the early of 2016.. (but only made an account in 2018 which the accounts password saved for some reason lol) while you can consider me not in the ogs i still saw roblox in 2016 as a friendly game maker with an amazing community like it is in early 2010s/late 2000s.. i personally think roblox nowadays lost that charm. with the rapidly growing community and support from corporation its obvious they will lose the friendly interaction and more wit corporate like bro.. who the hell wants an event with gucci, lil nas x or any for that matter. while i didn't really get to play them robloxs egg hunts and those early events are just really good and far more good than "lil nas x gucci nike" events will i play roblox even how soulless they became? yes but i do for the sake of nostalgia like natural disasters survival or any of those old games..
2009-2015 imo were the glory years. That’s when me and my friends had the best time playing and even though I still comeback every now and then I just haven’t been able to truly enjoy Roblox since about 2020. Maybe it’s because I grew up but man I really miss 2009-2015 Roblox
I joined in 2011. There are many games that are nostalgic to me and very very close to my heart. Yes. I miss the charm. The vets of the games are commonly MUCH kinder than what we have in todays roblox, despite how small that amount of players is. I miss the old charm of roblox's website and gameplay. OD'ers did not much exist at the time. Slenders didn't exist [yay]. The toxicity was minimal. But now it's just like "eh let the bot do it" instead of having people actually look at the reports it seems. It's screwed up. To be honest? Older roblox was superior in most places. MOST. But not all of em. Some of the issues back then, still are happening to this day. And are still common today. Me being a beginner dev, I want to preserve this old charm in all ways, like if there's going to be a roblox logo, it'll be the OLD one. Not the new one. wall posters? Old stuff you commonly found when the copyright stuff wasn't bugging Roblox. This'n'that this'n'that you get the idea. But in short. Yes very much so and also in some cases not at all. Older games were great. Newer games are also great. But we honestly need more games that feel more like old ones in a way. Whether that be old studs, retro weapons made into a modern style, DROPPERLESS TYCOONS WITH THE GRAY PIECE. The list goes on. And on. There is so much that roblox game devs aren't thinking of when it comes to ideas for games or other things. And it bothers me. I don't exactly know what else to say other than all of that..
@@faytachiMPS I Already knew they existed, I Just managed to avoid them somehow. When I said "not much exist" I was thinking "They were strictly within these games and not out here bothering us."
I started playing this around 2007/2008. and Incan guarantee, nothing compared to those years. I remember one of my first games was in a trainstation map. with everyone waiting for a train to spawn, then get on, only for it to ride a couple miles before riding of a cliff. we also had different clans and organizations before it actually was a thing. grouos like x101st, UCR, RAD etc. raiding eachother n stuff. swordfights on the heights also a game many will not experience. we used to get free 10 tickets everyday which they took out completely. you had builderman, telamon and figures like fleshkjhertja or something with mysteries revolving around them. you had the best pvp en pve games back then, or a game where youd make a boat and then sail it into a massive tunnel slide. theres soooo much stuff back then which will probably never return. people complain abiut the graphics but trust me its a charm. when they started adding headshapes and other body shapes a it started to become more and more commercial and targeted money. now its all replicating replication in a bad way. if theres is one game in the world that mimics the cycle of human generations and aging, then uts roblox. its just a gen z orG
Could y'all imagine that after 10 years or something they'll be a whole new generation saying that old roblox was better, and what they mean by "old roblox" is 2022 era, which is what a lot of people today saying that it's worse and 2015 roblox is better, and those who say 2010 roblox is better is the players of 2015 Yes, the cycle is just repeating over and over lol
@@tehogvirgin3664 You see it happening in real life too. 10 years ago it was "80s were the best decade". Now it's "90s are the best decade". Everyone is biased to their own childhood. I can't take it.
Technically as a 2014/2015'ish robloxian, I believe that 2015 can also be considered the last year of old or middle Roblox because we're in 2022, and from 2015 to 2022 it's about 6 years gap so yeah
@@thecrow9820 oh yeah this is another thing, players are always saying x year is the end of old roblox because (insert thing that they didnt like) happened after that
I’ve only ever watched your content on my ds in the middle of the night sleep deprived, so I’m glad to be finally watching on something that is designed better to view videos on
i really more like old roblox for various reason but the main reason of why old roblox is better than new roblox is because creativity was at it's PEAK
Honestly, I loved 2014-2018 It was the grey area between Old ROBLOX with its bad graphics but good community and Modern ROBLOX with its good graphics and bad community
theres a game that ive dreamed to be real, that sounds cool. The object of the game is to take things from robots (ex: Hammers, Fleeing Bugs, Chassis', Skooters, ect.) and turn them into a machine that can battle another robot that can battle another robot of your own. you are supposed to destroy one or the other and the one who defeated the other one would win. I like this idea, due to the fact that i cannot, I MEAN "CANNOT," find any sort of game where you can take stuff apart and make it into a machine to battle another machine, i mean the game sounds really fucking cool. Imagine YOU, making a robot, OF YOUR OWN, to battle with another robot, that fight to the very end, until 1 is left standing.
@@tandy5811 It reminds me of this one game where each person in the game was assigned to build a body part of this huge gigantic robot and someone would become the robot and then the robot had to come and go kill everyone I forgot the name
In my opinion, I think 2016-2018 Roblox was the greatest. At that time we had actual fun and enjoyable games and a nicer community than what we have now. We had amazing events, for example: we had egg hunts and Roblox was making good items on the catalog. Now Roblox is boring, its so hard to find fun games to play, everything is pay to win, we have slenders and a lot of toxicity in the roblox community. Roblox now is trying to find ways to piss of the community every time.
As a 2011er, yes and no. But I lean towards yes. Yes: the games were simplistic, made by people for fun and not money. This made games interesting and exciting. The overall vibe was better and peaceful. Nowadays games follow formulas and makes it old and repetitive. GUI and assets were in some instances much more aesthetically pleasing. The company and moderation team was much more in touch with the community, as crazy as it sounds today. It’s a soulless corporation now. No: the lag was awful. Even adding music lagged your entire computer. bugs, exploiters were common. GUI was in some cases very intrusive. People were generally nicer but the toxic people were way worse than now because of the lack of moderation enforcement. Games are designed much better now.
The reason why old roblox like 2013 was better because we were really young like 6 - 13 years old. Our mind was filled with many imaginations and Roblox was very interesting back then.
I get sick of these children who didn't even play Roblox during it's beginning years claiming that every single tiny insignificant aspect of old Roblox is better than what we have now. Not *EVERYTHING* about old Roblox is better. In terms of game development tools, Roblox has never been better. The games back then were extremely primitive.
The only thing new roblox has over old is roblox studio and looks. I usually go back to playing old roblox games cause they are usually more fun and unique than the current boring grindy and copy and paste games of new roblox, which are just pumped out to suck robux out of the kids that play them.
Once rthro was added, the updates just started getting wack, as well as many of the games getting overly complicated and cash grab games (games like Military Simulator and such) became much more common. In my opinion, the peak of roblox was around 2016-2017, when there were many games being created and the actual website and mechanics were much simpler. I might be biased, since this is the most nostalgic period for me, but there certainly are real reasons to back this up.
in 10 years when I'm called risky as a name by someone who aren't my friends (eg. Adomisanoob, ckc489) I will get a flash of memories of the past back when I joined because of mm2, meepcity (meepcity actually didn't have dating), I will tell them a story from the past... Memories flowing through my body, Tears across my face, Tears of happines, a spark, a feeling, a feeling of sadness and happines mixed together... Nostalgia going THROUGH THE ROOF! I would never forget my name, i would remember when i made cut-outs of the BFB contestants, hosts and reccommended characters, when i played ugandan knuckles royale, when i watched star wars on disney+ for the first time, back when i started playing Islands (the roblox game) and i would play it after the test and calmly eat my french fries and listen to commentary about roblox studio scripting or islands update reviews, i would be holding back a river of tears, as the memories made my day feel better. In the future, i would say old roblox (aka back when i joined minus the corporate roblox stuff and slenders and tiktok) was a lot better, but now, i would say old roblox wasnt good nor was it bad, thank you and i do not want a lot of likes, i just wanted to state my opinion on old roblox. Thank you for listening, again, thanks.
For me, taking into account the possibility of nostalgia-tinted lenses, I believe that old ROBLOX was better. The games were barebones and limited, which forced some creators to get creative in terms of concepts and play incentive. Nowadays, I feel like games on the front page feel less charming and atmospheric, and are far more linear in terms of gameplay and objective; "handhold-y", if you will. I do completely understand the opinion (and possible truth) that old ROBLOX wasn't better, since the games are way better developed nowadays. I just don't have fun with any of the popular simulator, clicker, or anime fight games nowadays. Some of the horror and city-life games are great, though.
same i hated anime games so much and also the simulator and clicking games thats why i always stuck at home page forever and keep preventing myself from going to the "discover" front page since most of games at there were just, anime p2w clicking simulator games and stuffs
i think for me the thing that daunts me a bit about current roblox is that the standards for games has gone wayyyyy up. i kinda miss that feeling of “hey here’s a thing i worked on for fun” that was pretty simple and minimal but could still hit the front page. i still kinda design stuff like older games because of it, i like making lego-y type places
I joined in 2012, back then I was 10 years old and a lot of the charm for me came from the "Lego" look a lot of the builds still had, and the pure simplicity of some of the games. Build to Survive games were insanely popular- a lot of them being Minecraft related, and hang out spaces were common. I remember vividly one of my very first events I put a lot of time into was the Lego Hero Factory event and I still have one of the helmets for it on my account. Around 2016-2018 I remember there also being a Voltron event that was insanely fun, along with an Endgame/Easter event. My main issue with current Roblox is the lack of events that offer a multitude of rewards and promote community made games. Most of the time an "event" now is a game that has no connection to the community or a bunch of free items in the store that you dont need to grind for. As time has gone on Roblox has become more detached from its community, and is more-so now just a provider in a way
Something i miss about old roblox is less p2w since in a lot of games back then you didnt have to spend money to become pro Another thing i miss about old roblox is older avatars because they were simple and less expensive Nowadays people always find a reason to spend hundreds or even thousands of robux on only their avatar, which in my book arent even good avatars and look flashy and edgy
(i joined around 2017) imo this era of roblox (2017-?below?) is better than today. sure, the games were lacking quality and were simple but you actually have players that weren't toxic (personally never had a toxic interaction with anybody during this time). roblox back then also wasn't really corporate and didn't have many corporate games, instead they'd have free items in the catalog to give out to promote a movie or tv show. nowadays there's a lot of events thats from different corporations and they're kinda boring. it makes me sad that we can't get some parts of this era back. there are some things that i like about the new roblox though: the free items they put out is much more appealing to me dark mode the gui there are some games out there that are really good the avatar ugc items
made my first account in 2013 but my current was made in 2016 and from 2013-2017 was the most fun i’ve had on any game in my life, playing games like flood escape, project pokémon, zombie rush, epic mini games, roblox high school and many more led me to meet some of the kindest people i ever will in my life and i have so much to thank for this
I joined Roblox in 2008, as a very little kid I remember only having fun playing it! Sadly every year the fun was becoming less and less.. Playing Roblox now doesn't give me as much fun as it did in for example 2013.
2014-17 was the sweet spot of roblox for me, around that time some of the best and most iconic games were popular, there werent as many notable issues as there are today, and well, i was just younger, and had the capacity to enjoy the games without thinking of anything else.
As someone who signed up on roblox in 2010, being just five years old, I remember a lot about this game, watched it evolve myself through the years, although there was a decent disconnect between 2013 and 2015, I've stuck around for a while after that. And I can say the website's shift from white and blue to the black and white we have today really doesn't make me feel like I'm playing a game meant for kids anymore, nor does it feel like it's oriented towards them like how it was before. It's like a colorless and lifeless brick wall, plastered with random games that probably wouldn't have appealed to me even if I had been a kid when they came out. The game has advanced quite a lot since when I started playing, and I myself quite miss how roblox looked when I was younger, and I feel less compelled to try new games on the discover tab, as they're all just the same boring games I don't want to play when I last checked. I doubt anyone will see this comment, but I feel like I can't be the only one who agrees with at least one of these things I've said.
pretty sure if you were to ask anyone their opinion on this, they’d say it was better. what’s funny, is that i’m pretty sure 90% you would’ve asked never were or weren’t even born around that time, which means that most people just blindly believe it was a flawless masterpiece, when in reality i’m pretty sure that if you gave them roblox 2007 and told them to play, they’d abandon it in minutes. ps: i’ve also seen the complaint that there’s a lot of kiddies, and oh come the fuck on. don’t act as if 9 year olds on roblox is something new.
An aspect of appeal of old Roblox for me was finding obscure places with a surprising amount of effort put into them and interacting with the creators and their friends. Places had to be more unique to make it to the front page. Often times you would find recycled scripts or assets in lots of low effort places and players would have a distaste for it. Those low effort places never really went away, they only evolved. One person makes a high quality asset or unique concept and other places copy the asset/idea. Case in point, FEAR labs (or whatever it was called) was just one place that was copied to death and lots of the assets in it recycled until the community finally got sick of it.

In old Roblox I could bully kids in Adopt and Raise a Cute Baby. Now I can bully kids in Brookhaven. I’m happy with both.

how about future roblox?
I think bullying in Adopt and Raise a baby game is much more fun, Especially with the strollers, None of the players there has any braincells, none.
Hehe
imo I think the charm with old roblox games are the fact that they were mostly just passion projects by individuals made for fun since there wasn't any way you could make money off your games.
also i remember watching that phire video in 2014 which was when my interest in roblox 2006 first started
which is funny now because 2014 is now as old as 2006 was in 2014
Now we get the problem, the corporate side of ROBLOX just wanted to make money without even reaching out to community. They abandon us, after we grew them big. It was ROBLOX mistake who became "incorporated" in the first place.
omg groovy domino 69
Yes, old roblox or mid roblox games are often nostalgic to look back into, like the example given in the video, peaspod's The Pod Games, since I remember playing it all the time, and being able to see roblox or builderman in the game.
But would I want those games from back then to come back? No. The reason why people think that old roblox games were better is that they are either:
1. New players who assume everything old is good and gold
2. Those blinded by nostalgia
or, 3. Forgotten how the old engine was way more simplistic
Yes, they can argue that the community was *slightly* better, but the games back then compared to now? There will be that one game or few on the site today where you wouldn't find it boring, but putting me now in old roblox would just be
p a i n
As you grow older, those games tend to fall out more than the genres you're currently leaning towards.
Games definitely had better discoverability back then. The Russian Roulette of the home page was a big positive for old Roblox imo
tix was sadly removed due to server botting
same
You recognised people and bumped into them on a day to day basis just like the ro racing community
This. A few years from now, Roblox will seem even worse, and the kids playing right now will say that 2020 - 2022 were nostalgic to them.

''old roblox''
I liked 2012-2016. It was The Event golden ages.
The main thing I miss about early roblox is game discovery. It's so hard to find stuff to play now compared to back then.
I have a game I would recommend it's called "custom minigames". I wont explain it here but just know its extremely fun
It just depends on how you feel with them
I think that is what really sold me to Roblox back then, I joined in 2011 and during that time I was nostalgic for the early 2000s (still am lol) and Old Roblox made me feel like I was in the past with the smaller community back then.
Plus it's hard to advertise games and there are no filters. That's something I would add.
Don't forget to mention that at modern Roblox, there are obbies that can really break your limits in terms of skill.
"new roblox is better than old roblox"
Ehh...
The old games had infinitely more heart in them cause there wasn't a monetary incentive to pump out games.
What about how the company has changed (as in people who make it) they are alot worse
Yea true
I’d say 2011-2014 was the golden age of Roblox. It was a good blend of high quality games for the time while also having great events
I'd probably say 2014-2018 was better, Egg Hunts were still good, Events were good, but newer things like R16 were introduced
2016 was the beginning of the end, but 2016-2018 was still a good time
Back then, Anthro was our biggest concern, and now Oof is gone and most audios are gone
2011-2014 was also very good, 2011-2016 was just the golden age where you could enjoy +30fps and better graphics, but before ROBLOX fell to capitalism
I probably only think this because I joined 2016 😅
yea, i liked 2018, with prison life, work at a pizza place, and zombie attack
as someone that joined in 2010, 2010-2014 really was peak
sure, everything was a lot simpler back then but it was good - things weren't anywhere near as monetized and you had some people recreating entire games in roblox's engine like resident evil 4 while giving it a roblox spin or games like demolition derby (the fact there hasn't been ANY game like this in 2023 is a shame) or robloxity
games nowadays are a lot more complex and the dev tools roblox gives you are INCREDIBLE but the company and community are just so much worse than they were 9 years ago and it's depressing
the best roblox would be the community & roblox company of 2010-2014 with the modern dev capabilities of 2023 imo
late 2018 and early 2019 were the last moments of the best moment for roblox
2011-2019 for me xd

Tix shouldn’t come back people would farm that shit
@@DylanZeee I feel like the only reason people could easily farm tickets was only because roblox just didn't try to make it better. They could've added checks to make sure you weren't farming. i.e: don't give them tix from the exact same account joining that joined an hour. They should've added a one day tix per person limit or something like that. To combat people just making new accounts, they could log your IP with your account so you couldn't join from the same IP.
Those were just a few from the top of my head.
I feel like there was definitely more passion back then. Just take a look at how events were run back then. Events were one of the things I really looked forward to

Yeah, that's exactly why I enjoyed Roblox back then EVEN when the games were kind of bad.
I play RetroStudio also :)
I’ve played ROBLOX since 2013 and it’s grown a lot since. Although I use a classic ROBLOX style, I appreciate new aspects and old aspects.
I played retrostudio and never came back just because old roblox is just inferior compare to new roblox.
retrostudio is a litteral shitshow
same, retrostudio can be filled with trash games, but such was the same with old roblox, and good games show their face every so often
u crazy? many roblox games are made by independent devs, not every frontpage game is a fucking 200 developer company
The older we get, the more we cherry-pick our own past and see it through rose tinted glasses. It’s not necessarily bad, but we should also acknowledge the bad stuff as well.
And yet people here never seem to acknowledge the past in a bad light.

What I for sure miss about old Roblox is for sure Roblox's interaction with its own community. When forums were around, I remember how chatting with moderators was a casual everyday experience. Mods like legoseed, InceptionTime were the mods that were the most active, with the former being the nicest (hehe)
Also, Roblox NextLevel streams on Twitch is also something I dearly miss.
Current Roblox and the Roblox when I joined are different like day and night, even the "Online Dater" avatars that used to common in this time are a rare occurrence.
as a 2010 player one of my FAVORITE things about roblox was roblox showing off front page games or just simply games they found cool with the game reviews series they had, it helped me find a lot of good games i loved as a kid like space knights or roblox battles
now they just don't even communicate with anyone unless it's to change the rules or policies
Great video nonetheless!
yeah but it's a baby game, foekoe explained that the game sucks so I think so too
One thing i really hate with physics today is the fact that you can randomly flip and lose control over your character if you run fast enough on an object, which is extremely annoying, another thing is the acceleration of the walkspeed, that used to not be a thing until they added it and controling your character just felt worse.
The things I miss about old roblox for me personally is really the charm, it felt more like a platform "for players, by players" and there were better games back then in my opinion, like more challenging survival games, better obbies, and great building games. ofc 8 year old me didn't care much so it's more about nostalgia than anything really.
the "for players, by players" reminds me of ng's motto "everything by everyone"

2010-2018 was the golden age, espacially 2013-2014. It was a perfect balance of charm from old roblox and modern benefits of new roblox.
Specter 2 with 2007-09 graphics 😭😂😂😂

tbh i don’t think 2017 should be considered “old roblox” yet. i joined in early 2018 and i have nostalgia for the old UI and jump button. but i don’t believe it’s actually old roblox. i, unlike all those 5 year olds who joined in 2020, feel actual weird nostalgia for old roblox even though i have never played it and know how clunky and glitchy it was. maybe just an overdose on Retrostudio. i don’t think roblox is trash nowadays, they advanced in technology so much in the past 18 years. the only problem is the bad actors that ruin everything for everyone, even their lives. that and the metaverse talk with no touch in community and so on and so forth.
idk man retrostudio really felt different. it has a whole community of people who actually play this game and it has a whole fully working version of windows 7-8 roblox studio
old roblox had no child labor tycoon. therefore it was bad. end of story.
so true, king
Yes, people only say it's better cause of nostalgia.
So true smh
Specifically the incident of 2012
That doesn't really explain anything bro
Personally, I joined Roblox in 2015 at a young age, now entering my teenager era, anything before 2019 was fun
Games like natural disasters, Roblox deathrun, lumber tycoon 2, Pokémon go and brick bronze and more are either taken down or have low player counts
I dislike current Roblox but I still play it!
In old Roblox, there is was like no online daters and nobody argues, we were all social and we're all happy, sharing creations, playing together, now it's 9 year old emo people
So if I could go back to 2015 at my age, I would
I feel as though people are drowned in nostalgia to the point where they kind of stop appreciating new roblox.
New roblox is good, its just the community and the moderation that ruins it
@@Autostraaad i wouldnt say moderation sucks, i mean they have to use bots since how can thousandish(?) ppl moderate around 3 bil+ accounts so theres obviously going to be some screwups
@@SomeRobIoxDude true and some people just fake bans to get attention making the problem even worst
i agree, they have the same behavior as boomers just talking about the good ol’ days (feelsOldMan). they can’t move on from the past. but the community has definitely gotten worse tho which is inevitable since the game is getting more and more popular
5:49 its funny how the chain chomp face looks like its been squashed into 3 faces lol
as somebody who has been in the old roblox community since ~December 2016, i believe that new roblox is actually better, however there are some aspects of old roblox that i wish were still in today's roblox:
1. game discovery, the game discovery back in 2014-2018 was amazing and it was very easy to find games that you wanted to play. however, i believe in 2018 it started to go downhill after scam bots started botting games to the top of the popular page, and roblox had to modify how the popular games tab worked. now, you only find the same games over and over again which is a contributing factor as to why i haven't been playing roblox as much as i used to in 2014-2017
2. the community, the community was something that you just had to experience at the time or, in my opinion you wouldn't really understand it. i believe that the older community was better in a few ways, although i do agree that toxicity also existed in the old community and that's something that you can't really get rid of no matter how much you try to minify it
3. events, the events were way better than what we have now, which is one of the rare exceptions i give to the "old roblox is better" mindset, i personally believe that i would probably play roblox more than i do now if we had the old way of events back
id like to comment on tickets, tickets were not very good and in my opinion had a good reason for removal, roblox was not a multi billion dollar company and i'm sure they were losing money because of tickets, so they removed tickets. looking back, tickets were also very easily exploitable if you botted your game. if you botted your game to 100K visits (1 visit = 1 tix) you could have gotten 100K TIX, or 10,000 ROBUX, which would easily destroy the roblox economy. i do however agree that there should be a way to make things free like shirts, pants, t-shirts, hats, etc. on the catalog
if roblox didn't fall down the hole of being a scummy platform, similar to how osu! hasn't devolved in charm over the years due to the developer not liking money, pretty much NO ONE would say old roblox is better.
2012 roblox was peak. It started going down when tix was removed
Bottom line, games have found new ways to be bad while still taking notes from the "classics."
I just wish I wasn't so omniscient with my concerns about temporarily replacing Crossroads with some shitty skate park themed after a shitty Disney show that everyone would inevitably forget about in a couple weeks, including the target demographic whose attention spans are too short to have even read past the first sentence of this comment.
@@MaxyMiliFooty ☠
(but only made an account in 2018 which the accounts password saved for some reason lol) while you can consider me not in the ogs i still saw roblox in 2016 as a friendly game maker with an amazing community like it is in early 2010s/late 2000s..
i personally think roblox nowadays lost that charm. with the rapidly growing community and support from corporation its obvious they will lose the friendly interaction and more wit corporate like bro.. who the hell wants an event with gucci, lil nas x or any for that matter. while i didn't really get to play them robloxs egg hunts and those early events are just really good and far more good than "lil nas x gucci nike" events
will i play roblox even how soulless they became? yes but i do for the sake of nostalgia like natural disasters survival or any of those old games..

Could y'all imagine that after 10 years or something they'll be a whole new generation saying that old roblox was better, and what they mean by "old roblox" is 2022 era, which is what a lot of people today saying that it's worse and 2015 roblox is better, and those who say 2010 roblox is better is the players of 2015

theres a game that ive dreamed to be real, that sounds cool.
I first joined in 2015 and from that point up until 2018 I absolutely loved the platform, but the last 3 years haven't been the same.
Roblox in the old days seemed pretty social, mostly gathering people in one piece and interacting with each other in the game
it was
thats not just old roblox but whatever
Imo old roblox was anything before 2013, AKA the most disastrous year in the 2010s to roblox
I also made a Comment of this and i agree people that Joined 2020+ say OlD rObLoX wAs BeTtEr
9:14 even in 2006 there was toxic people and there's proof on Shedletsky's yt channel in his first vid someone called someone a "noob"
that is what people were calling each other
Once rthro was added, the updates just started getting wack, as well as many of the games getting overly complicated and cash grab games (games like Military Simulator and such) became much more common.
@Machine Ambassador this is just my opinion but i think roblox downfall started at 2017 or 2018 kinda
@Machine Ambassador cuz i create my first acc at 2017 😭
i think for me the thing that daunts me a bit about current roblox is that the standards for games has gone wayyyyy up. i kinda miss that feeling of “hey here’s a thing i worked on for fun” that was pretty simple and minimal but could still hit the front page. i still kinda design stuff like older games because of it, i like making lego-y type places
yes, old roblox is better. i don't care about how the games were back then, i care about how nice the community back then compare to now.
As time has gone on Roblox has become more detached from its community, and is more-so now just a provider in a way
Something i miss about old roblox is less p2w since in a lot of games back then you didnt have to spend money to become pro
Another thing i miss about old roblox is older avatars because they were simple and less expensive
Nowadays people always find a reason to spend hundreds or even thousands of robux on only their avatar, which in my book arent even good avatars and look flashy and edgy
(i joined around 2017) imo this era of roblox (2017-?below?) is better than today. sure, the games were lacking quality and were simple but you actually have players that weren't toxic (personally never had a toxic interaction with anybody during this time). roblox back then also wasn't really corporate and didn't have many corporate games, instead they'd have free items in the catalog to give out to promote a movie or tv show. nowadays there's a lot of events thats from different corporations and they're kinda boring. it makes me sad that we can't get some parts of this era back.
there are some things that i like about the new roblox though:
the free items they put out is much more appealing to me
dark mode
the gui
there are some games out there that are really good
the avatar ugc items
short answer: no
True
"friendliness and charm" that's what I like about old Roblox but I didn't know how to say it
made my first account in 2013 but my current was made in 2016 and from 2013-2017 was the most fun i’ve had on any game in my life, playing games like flood escape, project pokémon, zombie rush, epic mini games, roblox high school and many more led me to meet some of the kindest people i ever will in my life and i have so much to thank for this
I think 2011(gui change)-2015(other gui change) was the bet time period with a balance of quality and sticking to its roots
Your video quality and music choice is top tier
I think 2016 - 2017 was a prime year of roblox which is why it was remembered as the greatest year of "old" Roblox
I doubt anyone will see this comment, but I feel like I can't be the only one who agrees with at least one of these things I've said.
i've lost so many old games i used to play and no matter how many videos i search i will never find them
pretty sure if you were to ask anyone their opinion on this, they’d say it was better. what’s funny, is that i’m pretty sure 90% you would’ve asked never were or weren’t even born around that time, which means that most people just blindly believe it was a flawless masterpiece, when in reality i’m pretty sure that if you gave them roblox 2007 and told them to play, they’d abandon it in minutes.
ps: i’ve also seen the complaint that there’s a lot of kiddies, and oh come the fuck on. don’t act as if 9 year olds on roblox is something new.
I watched your like old video of “the entire history or roblox I guess” and this new one and your voice has changed ALOT-
An aspect of appeal of old Roblox for me was finding obscure places with a surprising amount of effort put into them and interacting with the creators and their friends.
This guy is underrated. Thanks for putting effort into your videos.
