I can't believe you threw the rock back....it's possibly the biggest rock you've ever caught!! Nice seeing you gents on the water, I really can't wait for the 1st trip on the Emerald Isle that you post for us.. Thx for sharing!
I worked at the Alitalia cannery off of the bay 35 years ago. Good to see the old waters and mountains there. Great fishing!Processed some of those halibut back in the day!
Good ol' twin peaks, especially during the summer time when the sweet smell of alder bushes bloom. Setnetted in Moser Bay last year, and we anchored by the village of akhiok and woke up to a windy, westerly coming from the bay, so we moved to tie up at the cannery and when we got by twin peaks a strong willo-wa gusted and we were caught in it and we stopped to just let the wind pass by, but boy oh boy that willo-wa was strong enough to make the boat lean to the starboard side a little bit and after that we took off to the cannery.
I can't hardly believe it, but guess I have to that was a nice hard rock fish there. 😂😂😂. A few hundred more and I think 🤔 you're in the running for the championship 😂😂. That's crazy.
How do you guy`s like the new set up on deck? The wids you deliver is top notch. Keep them coming. in my late teens i was on a purse seine fishing boat. Best time of my life Best income too. Love the life on that boat as a fisherman, But backproblems forced me on land. Best regards from norway.
Beautiful Flat calm Waters a real fair Fishermans paradise /friend. reach your quota, everybody goes home safe, the most important part of fishing in Alaska. may the lord keep you all safe. 👌👌☘☘💖💖. Dunno? that rock looks like a fossil, take a closer look before you throw it back into the drink? I like big buts and I cannot lie, nice haul guys. Loved the longshoreman and his enthusiasm on the offload as well, great work ethic. hard working guy who loves. A hard-working paycheck. Recognition is important to all involved. in feeding America. Quit teasing Tris. Even if Everyone is watching him on this channel cleaning out the fish hold. he's doing his best. 🤣🤣
I love the hell a. Butt lol stay safe all i can say is those were the days back in the 70 dys and 80 dys off the pribloffs st Paul loved it and ping figure it out
So I'm at 38:23 and wondering why you don't throw water in the ice hold, turn it into a slurpy and suck it out? Lol that was a not bad session, and would love to help, if that offer ever arises ❤🍻🇨🇦 from Vancouver Island!!
The more I see the Team/Family work the fishing with the reel operating in the mid center of the boat and the line coming in on the port side, the more I feel this has inherent dangers that don't seem as prevalent in the Center Line stern operation of the reel and longline fishing. Maybe it is perspective, but you seem to lose a lot of operational free space for fish and traversal of the catch onboard, a large center tank is covered and not as accessible. I also saw the advantage of this operation when the line was stuck in rocks and you were able to steer the boat around the line caught addressing the removal from a different tangent point. So I need to ask for my own inquiry, What determines going to this setup? Is it fishing quota placement 3A vs. 3B or the location like a rocky bottom vs. sandy bottom? Inquiry minds want to know.
Persective has a lot to do with it. It is a lot easier on the back having the line pass through a block up high as opposed to bending down and uncliping the snap when pulling off the stern. Hauling mid-ship you can spin and pivot the vessel on the line, it males hauling much easier under all circumstance, especially when it is windy or rough out. If the line gets snagged you can spin around and work it from the side. Anyway 3A vs #b doesn't matter, just bottom conditions. Hauling from the side lets us fish shallow, rocky areas that were really had to work from the stern.
Good video Matt! Weather looked pretty clean on that trip which is always a big deal huh? Always good to advise guestimate of largest butt caught on the trip. Thanks!
A good partnership working together, could you give a tutorial on your automatic spoller, your line reel moves at the same speed while hauling back, is your spoller timed of your driven winch shaft, and how does it go back and forth without causing a line build-up on the ends. Thank you for sharing your video.
There’s got to be a better way to move ice. Was thinking flood it, then pump out. Depending on current water temp, it may go quick or slow. Current method looks like a shoulder surgeons dream.
as I dad it's so great to see you and matt working the rail so well together then also tristan becoming even more envolved you guys must be so proud of how they have grown into men
Why do you take the bait off, throw it overboard and then bait with a new piece? It would seem to me that the old bait was still good and should make sure it is hooked good and reuse it.
Well, it depends. If the bait is still good, then they keep, but if it's been chewed up by another fish and there's no meat and just skin then they throw it overboard or in general if the fish don't like the bait. But the halibut aren't picky they will eat anything just like lingcod do.
One time, we put skate bait on our halibut hooks, and they loved it at least the bigger ones, tho but from there on we used salmon and cod and it proved better.
ji like your channel i was buying fish I thought it was your site for three month, it was some one else you web site doesn't come up first even when you type it in, I will redue my orders,
The camera angles are definitely something we'll work on. I feel like the old setup wasn't great for recording either though, there was nowhere to mount it on the back rail, so it was always far from the action. Gonna get a mount to swing out on the stabilizer for next season.
REALLY???? COME ON GUYS. Within tge first minute if the video. The person closest to the camera removed something from a sealed tube. He removed the object and threw the Cap of tge container into the water. STOP THAT PLEASE
Dude there's no proof of them throwing a plastic container overboard or a lid at all 🙄, so you're making up a lie right there bud, along with that you haven't even commercial halibut fished before so why make a pathetic accusation hmm 🤔, so how about you stop and rethink and rewatch the whole video again.
Thanks for the video guys. Still gotta say the new setup 👎 not good for filming. Like the old setup we could see the fish coming up and it just seems like it's a one man show now your in each others way and it's just not as good as before sorry
The refit of you boat is not as conducive as far as listening to your conversations. Also it’s like the fish disappear after caught. What has seperated you from others is the word family. It’s there I know but you have had to use a tune as a filler at times, even when coments are being made about the catch. Can’t here you.if possibles a wider view from the side you are fishing might help. I’m sure you know this , and the bottom line is $. Very fun to watch your family make a living.
Matt's a working machine, hes at his best when lots of fish are coming over the rail.
You two work together like a well oiled machine. I enjoy your videos to the last second. Tight lines.
Watching your family fish is very relaxing after a hard day. Thank you for letting us see what you do for us.
I can't believe you threw the rock back....it's possibly the biggest rock you've ever caught!! Nice seeing you gents on the water, I really can't wait for the 1st trip on the Emerald Isle that you post for us.. Thx for sharing!
I do love you drone footage that you post. 👍😎

i always wanted to work a fishing boat but i am 80 now so to late for me but i like to watch!

I enjoy your videos so very much especially when you take the time to explain all the different aspects of fishing Alaska. Thanks for sharing. Norm
This is a much better setup and is more efficient by the looks of things. Still enjoying the videos.
This is just what I needed after a long day at work.😊
Great video. Makes me want some fresh halibut!!! Love the videos.
Sure enjoy the fishing of halibut. 😊

Wow good load

Well done mat and family ❤
You are very …tolerant of your younger brother,,good for you!

That first fish was a Hatteras Long Tailed Flounder! 😂
Good
I often wonder if you prefer to see a whole bunch of "door mats" or a few "barn doors" come over the rail on a pull?
Nice did the change around on deck help or cause more movement from fishing and unloading.
Looks like hauling got a little easier.
What are your average daily costs per trip and fish totals. Which fish is is most profitable and have the longest open season.
Just wondering why don.t you get a pump to suck the ice water out after unloading

Maybe a tub you can raise/ lower with crane?
I don't know ot seems like you had more wiggle room the old way, but still enjoyed the video.
Great job men like to know, What bait did that rock bite on ???
That was a good haul. You ever fish old harbor? I will be up there next month can't wait
Is there a season for sculpin, or is there just no market for them? Sculpin are used in stews all the time.
as I dad it's so great to see you and matt working the rail so well together then also tristan becoming even more envolved you guys must be so proud of how they have grown into men
👍
What do you guys consider a good catch per set? By fish or pounds?
im curious do you keep any of those rock fish for eating during breaks assuming of course then you have a portable grill of some sort
So you take your fish to a processor, how do you ensure the fish you sell is your fish?
After a slow start things picked up and you ended up with a nice haul. Was T in school cause all he got was ice maintainance? 👍
😊
What is the difference between halibut and flounder as far as taste
Why do you throw the bait away when pulling in your lines. Can you not reuse it if it is still in a hunk?
The new set up seems very awkward. How do you find it
What is the price per pound on halibut
Are you aloud to fish halibut all year so Is there a season?
How many pounds did you off load?
What's the strangest thing yall have ever caught?
Are undersized halibut edible?
no, they are sour
Why do you take the bait off, throw it overboard and then bait with a new piece? It would seem to me that the old bait was still good and should make sure it is hooked good and reuse it.

One time, we put skate bait on our halibut hooks, and they loved it at least the bigger ones, tho but from there on we used salmon and cod and it proved better.
But if you have set out multiple times and put the same bait exactly and the fish aren't liking it than I'd switch it out,
ji like your channel i was buying fish I thought it was your site for three month, it was some one else you web site doesn't come up first even when you type it in, I will redue my orders,
Aww. Maybe the seafood place in Florida? We are at eisalaska.com Thanks!
I like the old set up... This setup looks too confusing and it's not very friendly to the camera..😳
The camera angles are definitely something we'll work on. I feel like the old setup wasn't great for recording either though, there was nowhere to mount it on the back rail, so it was always far from the action. Gonna get a mount to swing out on the stabilizer for next season.
@@EISAlaska I'm sure you guys will improve over time... I'm hooked, so I'll deal with however is practical and above all safe for the team 🙏👍

I kind of liked the old way also. It was visually better.
