  • 101,000 Miles 5 years and finally did firmware update from 8.x to firmware 10.x. Range is holding, but now, with the firmware change, Tesla is now fudging numbers to hide problems. This mostly stemmed from the lawsuit against Tesla and them artificially lowering the battery pack voltages. The CAN BUS data was being used against them, so they are now fudging a lot of data so it can't be used against them.

    why do you have 690 charge cycles and only 642 discharge cycles? this does not make sense to me

    Can now get a 2016 model S cheaper than a model 3 same mileage in the UK. 56k miles for £26k 90D. Would you recomend at that mileage and price etc or get a newer 3?

    • @KmanAuto
      @KmanAuto  Рік тому

      I'd take the Model S hands down, especially if that 2016 is still grandfathered in for free supercharging and cellular. The Model 3 and Model Y are just too stripped down for my taste. It's a MAJOR downgrade to me. Only real difference is Heat Pump on the newer cars, and FSD hardware. To be honest though, as my 2016 Model X has FSD VS my 2016 Model S with basic Autopilot 1, the Autopilot 1 Model S blows away the Model X in terms of lane keeping. I'd take the AP1 any day of the week over the MX for a long drive (and do just that). Teslas AP2/FSD based Autopilot is just too unreliable, FSD Beta, while awesome, is an unsafe joke at the same time requiring you to to be more engaged than if you just drove manually. Eventually it will be better, but don't see that any time soon.

      @KmanAuto doesn't say about the free charging, so I doubt it. Don't remember that being a thing in the UK, but I could be wrong.
      Mostly concerned about big repair bills on the S vs the 3. At 26k, it's becoming more viable choice for me though!

      @@torrel8074 there's really only two big ticket items, battery and drive unit, and given the age of the cars, at least here in the USA, we have a number of companies doing aftermarket refurbishing. I just picked up a 2012 P 85 model S with a tad high voltage battery, and got a replacement for $7500 which includes a four year 50,000 mile battery warranty.
      The way I see it right now at least for my own cars, since I won't have a new car payment it's both mine are paid off, I can still afford to put a couple thousand years into them and I'm still farther out ahead compared to if I bought a new model 3 or Y.
      as for free Supercharging, all 2016 and older had it, the only way you can legally at least in the US be removed is once Tesla has the vehicle back such as in a trade or sale. So the only way to get it is private party you'll have to do some research of the vehicle still has it or not though

      Remember that Model S and Model X are made out of aluminium and not steel like the 3 or Y. I live in Sweden and in the wintertime the government put a LOT of salt on the streets. The paint job on teslas are not the thickest so when you get chips from stones rust will form on 3 and Y. On S and X the aluminium will oxide and then form as a protective layer. I have a Model S 90d ( facelift ) with 18000km and 410km on full state of charge. My car is worth around 40k€ secondhand but a long range model 3 with less milage is around 30k€ here in Sweden. Model 3 is a fun car to drive, but it is not as comfortable and spacious as the S. I have two kids and a third on the way so I'm thinking about finding a X90D with free Supercharging but the range would not be the best due to a larger car ( wind resistance and so on ).

    • @KmanAuto
      @KmanAuto  Рік тому +1

      A number of things, the car still shows what it thinks pack capacity is, however, what current kWh is in it does not read correctly, and jumps constantly to random numbers. Pack amperage, SOC is wrong. Moving over to Scan My Tesla, BMS Max Charge is wrong, usable full pack, usable remaining, charge and discharge cycles are no longer reliable, they can jump by a few to 20+ up or down, Battery Voltage can be off, sometimes by 1000 volts, energy buffer and a handful of other things.

Going to start her on the Radio Flyer Tesla this spring. Tried last year, but she felt more like plowing full speed into people.

    What is the hours spent charging rate per 50k miles then 100k miles. Waiting 1hr at the mall or 8hrs at home. Then add for fun cold weather it didint charge rate. If you spend 1/3 life sleeping at 8 hrs……..

    • @KmanAuto
      @KmanAuto  Рік тому +1

      Well, charging at home, it charges while I'm sleeping, same as my cell phone so ??? Who cares? Charging at the mall or at a supercharger, thats for long distance drives. For 99.9% of drivers, all the charging is done at home except for a couple times/year on a trip or longer drive. Even then, most those longer drives only need a bit for the return trip. 0-80% on my older car is about 30-40 minutes. 0-80% on a newer Tesla, 2020-ish and newer, is about 10-15 minutes, and in that 10-15 minutes, they actually gain more range than on my older car, as the battery capacity and efficiency has increased, use of Heat Pumps instead of resistive heater has made a massive range improvement in winter as well.
      Also, a drive that I may need to supercharge once during, a newer Tesla might make the round trip without having to stop to charge at all, with ranges over 400 miles per charge.
      "Fin cold weather it didnt charge rate", not sure exactly what you are trying to say, as your overall post was very jumbled, I have never had the car not charge because it was cold out. The cars are equipped with a battery heater. -32*F, no problem.

    • @KmanAuto

      Actually yes :-) $0 in electric as i'm grandfathered for free charging forever on the supercharger network. Wasted life? none. If i charge at home, 3 seconds to plug in, 3 seconds to unplug. If i'm at a supercharger, i take out my laptop and work, so not only am i charging for free, i'm making money sitting there.

      Can you be more specific? I'm 11 years in ad 450,000 Total miles driven across 3 Teslas. In terms of my video series on this particular Model S, I'm well over 75 videos behind posting. Cars 8 years old, nearly 200,000 miles on the odometer, everything's original, and it's holding a solid 240 miles range per charge. It also not only survived getting T-Boned on the Illinois Tollway Freeway, we were still able to drive 2 1/2 hrs home. So yes, Please, elaborate on how these electric cars are a scam 🙂

      I'm also heading on a road trip tomorrow. Just a short one, about 1000 miles. Drive time will be about the sam as if I drove gas, also going to do it while relaxing while autopilot does well over 99% of the total amount of driving, and total round trip fuel cost will be around $20 :-) But yes, these electric cars are a scam.
