    Not sure about the sleep thing, when I was house bashing we got hammered every night, boned everything with a skirt (we knew the difference between real women and fellas in skirts!) got up grabbed some lucozade and cracked on. Now I’m 50 and have zero issues in the wood department. Thats a chippie joke. 😂

      Weird innit I find watching a good brickie as therapeutic as I did when I was laying, when Churchill had huge decisions to make in World War 2 he used to lay bricks in his own back garden to get into his Zen Zone he found it the most relaxing thin in life,

    I can say one thing that worked for myself. I used to sleep 8-9 hours a night no bother. Felt tired all the time, felt shit all the time. Went to 6-7 a night and I never get tired at work. Never had caffeine to keep me going either way. The same thing doesn’t work for everyone. Most people definitely need better sleep though

    The sleep thing is 100% true. The trouble is, nobody wants to be at work for 10+ hours a day, which is the minimum day for most tradesmen and closer to 12 hours a day is more common. Then have 3 hours of time for themselves at the end of it because if you are up at 6am, out the door for 6.30 / 7, to get to site for 7.45 / 8am. Then not getting home till 5.30 / 6pm. By the time you have a shower, eat and sort your gear for the next day. You will have an hour to yourself if you go to bed at 9pm!
    You are then literally living to work and nobody wants to do that. If you do that for 50 years and have 2 days where your life is your own. You have lived a whole life but only a third of it did you ever spend doing what you wanted to do and being with the people you wanted to be with.
    Its a bit of a deep one but this world we have created for ourselves has put us in the position where to have anything and to be able to give our kids anything, we have to sacrifice 90% of the time that i personally, would much rather spend being with my mrs and my 2 amazing kids! Im not about to drop out of society and go live in a hut on some hippie community field or anything but i know for a fact we have all sold ourselves short in this capitalist system and our work to life ratio is badly skewed out of our favor.
    Those lucky sods who win 7 mil on the lotto and start some massive property portfolio and end up working 14 hours a day and loving the huge income get it all wrong IMO! If you're lucky enough to land enough cash that you don't ever need to work again, spend every minute of every day with the people you love because when times up, you won't be smiling about all that money you cant take with you, you will be wishing you could have just one more week, a day, even an hour more with your family!
    I hope the dreams of AI and robotics come true, meaning that everyone will have a universal income without the need for working. Maybe then people will put down the phones and remember the people around them and realise what is important in life again.

    • @Ceannadach
      @Ceannadach 4 місяці тому +1

      Universal Income will never happen. Too many high end bureaucrats rely on your hard earned dollars. We are moving in a bad direction in the west, and to be honest, it ain’t getting better. We fucked our selves, honestly. We’re a society of comfort seekers and pleasers, not dreamers and workers.
      I’d much rather farm all day, come home to my family, and go to sleep. That is the life, but I can’t do that because farming doesn’t pay well, and some jackass along time ago said “society benefits from a working class”. We’re not sustainable anymore, either. We are so reliant on everyone and thing.

I've said in the past that when you were keeping it simple, You and a labourer etc.. was when it was good.
    I've enjoyed today's video. 🫶 keep it up👍

    Can you answer this please ?
    We are building an extension with 4 course of thermalite 350mm interlocking trench blocks . This is the first time we have used the interlocking trench blocks and I have seen you laying them with no perps and agree as the spec says no need for perps.
    My site manager says it’s bad practice and is making me mortar up the joints what’s your thoughts do I fight this battle ?????

      @martin2466 6 місяців тому +3

      Has the Site Manager read the Manufacturers literature?
      If he is asking you to go "extra-over," on the specification ask him to put that in writing as an additional item and see if you can get paid for it. That should concentrate his mind.

    Nobody I know goes to bed to get 8 hours of sleep. Leave the house for 6am and back home for 5pm. Cook tea, eat, wash and doing your chores. It's not happening, the average is 6 hours. We all want extra time at home and we all Sacrifice this by going to bed at 12.

    How many laborers or apprentices do they assign per bricklayer over there? I've been training in refractory masonry (steel and aluminum mills/foundries/smelters) and been getting slammed. I am the only non journeyman on site and I end up mixing mud, stocking mud, stocking brick, cutting brick, up and down ladders, running forklifts, running power and water lines, cleaning up, anything you can think of for 3-4 journeyman. The sites you've been on seem pretty nice.

    I struggled with Insomnia when i was younger and spent many an hour with experts and specialists over the years. The quick answer is, Everyone is different when it come to sleep. Some people can function on 5-6 hours per night and others need 8-10 hours or even more.The old wives tale that you need at least 8 hours a night is complete bollocks. It come down to your metabolism, age, body type, sex, and more. I do know that some people can function on less than 5 per night.

    Lack of sleep causes a lot of shit. It reduces the immune system functionality. It effects the body in MANY ways.
    Lack of sleep also stacks, your body cleans up your brain during sleep, your glymphatic system removes toxic proteins from the brain, that build up through the brains normal functioning throughout the day. This takes time for your body to do. So if you only get 3 hours of sleep 3 nights running, you are building up more and more toxins and not giving your body time to clean up so your brain fills with these toxic proteins and your whole body suffers. You have to repay the balance because 3 nights without sleeping is not repaired by 1 good nights sleep. Your body needs those 3 nights worth of sleep time to clean up, otherwise your brain function suffers as a result.
    It's not a coincidence that the first thing you will notice if you didn't sleep enough, is waking up with a headache and a feeling that all you want is to go back to sleep. That day at work your brain will be slow and you will be thick as shit and making stupid mistakes. We have all experienced it.
    I despise the idea of living to work, I think our work to life balance is all wrong. I just know no matter of bitching from me will change how the world works. So the idea of getting home at 6, having an hour to myself after showering and eating, then having to go to bed to repeat the next day, is an idea I don't like. Sadly I can't change how the body world either and I don't want early dementia, which is made more likely by allowing your brain to be constantly filled with toxic chemicals due to a relentless lack of good sleep.
    Make time for your bed, you will not only feel better, you will look and perform better too. Do yourself a favour and take care of yourself in the most basic way of all, get enough sleep!
