@@matthewburrows4359I'm guessing they won't get a remaster as the reason they stopped making the lost tales in the first place is because JMS felt like it had gotten to a point where crusade, the lost tales, and legend of the rangers were hurting the legacy of B5 rather than adding to it.
Here we have a chicken and egg thing happening. If we wait for the entire series + movies to come out in a boxset and we don't support this release they may very well deduce that there isn't the market for this any longer. That's why I'm buying this new boxset of the series as I want those that make these decisions to know there is a market out there. My thoughts are the lightning they caught in the bottle with this cast and crew can never be updated/rebooted. I'd rather see a budget of a small 2 season series go into doing the full upgrade of CGI and widescreen on the original and market that to a new generation. This Babylon 5 series is evergreen. It deserves the full treatment if at all possible.
JMS is such a remarkable person. I recommend his own autobiography "Becoming Superman", if you want to know what bs he had to endure growing up and how he not only freed himself from it, but also became an unbelievably decent person and an incredible writer who has written for about any medium.
Harlan Elluson is a giant I. scifi abd I wish more people recognized his influence In the genre. He was also president of the writers guild in the union and wish he was around to share his opinions
I've now watched The Road Home. It seems to me [SPOILERS!] that it resets much of the B5 timeline at the end, allowing for a whole new string of stories to be told. Evidently in the new timeline Sinclair and Zathras didn't go back in time on board B4, so Sinclair hasn't [yet] become Valen. Kosh and the Vorlons must still be around. Molari didn't do a deal with Mr Morden.
If they did a full remaster for all the entire series and spinoffs and movies that came out and put them all in a set i would day 1 purchase the entire set
I've got my Bluray copy coming from the UK (to Australia), I can't wait. And when the series is released, I'll be investing in those too. My sad B5 DVD collection is looking ragged. I've been watching these the days of release till now. I tend to come back to this universe every 18mths or so... it never gets old.
Can someone pull JMS's sleeve and ask him to go kick HBO Max Europe's rear end and tell them to put Babylon 5 up for streaming over here?! :D Been waiting and waiting for the remastered edition of the show and it simply never appears on the service. :(
Mummmmm, interesting. Will think about purchasing 'The Road Home'?, though I don't have a blueray player, did see t clip on UA-cam, now will rethink what I initially thought. I like the idea of a 'What If' scenario. Thanks MJS for dedicating it to the ones who went on the journey to the rim. Hope they're 'Having a whale of a time!'
Great news, I wish they did a full remaster, because I did hear they recorded the show in Widescreen format and thought it be easy to redo CGI for future. Plus I personally love "in the beginning" film, hoppe that gets a remaster at some point, but still this is all great news!
I'm sure the OP knew this and was expressing a hope that significant purchases on home media of the remastered series in 4:3 might encourage WB to stump up the cash in future to redo the CGI in 16:9 to match the live action footage. Not that any significant image was lost because it was framed so everything significant fell within the 4:3 frame. But on modern widescreen TVs and projectors it seems a shame to be watching in a long outdated 4:3 ratio. @@FSMDog
It was shot on super35, which can be cropped for either 4:3 or 16:9. Either way you lose some of the frame. The directors are told to assume 4:3 , but to keep the 16:9 frame clean for a possible future widescreen release. CGI was only ever done for the original 4:3 broadcast version so widescreen versions with scenes with CGI in have been cropped twice, once to 4:3 and then cropping that to 16:9.
Still no talk about ship merch . Is JMS secretly anti capitalist or something ? This is no longer a rights issue. If he can do animation etc. , he could do ship merch . He doesn't . This is just him .
"Ship merch"? There were some Revell (I think that was the brand) model kits available back during the original run of the series (a Star Fury kit and a Babylon 5 Station kit) as well as a series of Micro-Machines minis and a table top game that used die-cast miniatures of ships called, "Babylon 5 Wars". I ran a game store back in the early 2000s, and was fortunate enough to get almost all of the B5 toys and merch that came out...(And I got to collect the entire run of both the large and small B5 action figures). Hopefully... "They" (meaning Warner Brothers, who still hold all the rights to the B5 franchise) might reissue B5 merch if the reboot goes forward... J.M.S. may not have any say in that matter... Interesting to hear about the upcoming Road Home. You mentioned the remastered shows on Max, but unfortunately it looks like they're not there anymore - I just checked and it doesn't turn up in a search. 🙁 But I'm excited to check out this new movie!

I've seen him speak at a few conventions. He's a man of great integrity and sincerity.
I've decided to wait until the entire series + all the TV movies are remastered and released together in a blu-ray or UHD definitive box set.
It is disappointing the TV movies and Crusade are not included in the new box set.
