@@nikewalker96 That's because your "normal speaking voice" can tend to be recognized too easily, and thus break immersion. Video game developers and animation studios don't want their work to constantly be measured up against something else. They want you to hear the voice lines and be able to identify what character (and what series that character is in) and have that be what comes to mind. Even prolific voice actors frequently run into the problem of "not enough voices" when their portfolio reaches a certain point. Nolan North is absolutely great, but you can see the limitations of his skills simply by playing Uncharted followed by Guild Wars 2. The male human PC's voice tone, inflections, and speech patterns are the exact same as his Nathan Drake role. It is literally impossible to play Guild Wars 2 after Uncharted without it being instantly recognizable.
somehow it surprises me that his voice naturally sounds like that and its not something he does for the character. its very unique, no wonder he gets recognised lol
Now I want to see an animated version of Zuko ordering coffee...with Iroh standing appalled in the background, pointing furiously at a tea kettle he's holding.
It's a good thing Dante Basco has more self restraint than me, because if I was somehow in his position then, I 100% would have raised my hand in a little wave and said: Hello. Zuko Here.
This was on my recommendation list. This will hit around a million views in a few years. Don't tell me I didn't tell you XD Edit: There was only 500 views when I saw this and there ya go its already blowing up lol
I imagine this happens a lot for VAs known for a distinctive voice, rather than a wide range of voices. The average person is more likely to recognize Ron Perlman's voice than Rob Paulsen or Dee Bradley Baker.
The funniest part is that this was probably already happening to him prior to Avatar because of Rufio in Hook lol. His voice is exactly the same now as it was when he was 15.
His face is really recognizable too though. When I saw him in Take the lead I was like "Rufio!" And my sister was like no he's too young and I said that's him I haven't forgotten his face.
Although I've seen some of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the first things I would think of when I hear his voice is Rufio [Hook[ & Dolph [But I'm A Cheerleader].

His voice is extremely iconic and distinct, so I can see how it would be easily recognized.
Even an orangutan would know
Overhearing him and H. Jon Benjamin having a chat would be WILD.
Yeah I recognized his voice on ATLA from a bit role he had on the Fresh Prince
Also he used his normal speaking voice for his zuko role, something that I feel is not common among voice actors
