The 787 is only popular because of how new it is and all of the hype the media gives it. But, once it gets to 15+ years it won't be new, hot, and modern and instead, the only thing that people will recognize it for will be its narrow seats, low ceiling, and annoying old generation windows. The A350 is a really nice aircraft and it will definitely still be a pleasant plane to fly on after the 10-year mark (just like the A380) because of its wider cabin and taller ceiling mainly.
But the 787 is already over 10 years old and has really high ceilings? I do agree with the narrow seats though (although Japan Airlines uses a much more comfortable 2-4-2 configuration). If the windows weren't locked by the crew of the 787, I'd probably prefer them given their huge size, but overall if I had the choice to fly either then I would choose the A350.
Agreed! Having been on a lot of B787, they DO NOT age well. The new generation of lightweight material used by Boeing just don't age well. Both United and ANA 787 of less than 5 yo have a lot of broken things and looked worse than a 757/767.
I agree. Having flown on 787 I can only discribe it as the "nightmareliner" because of the discomfort from the narrow seats. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be unfortunate enough to fly on one of those 777s that has been re-configured to 3-4-3 seating. Boeing has truly lost it in recent years.
The knife cuts both ways. The wings do look cool but if you are inside of the cabin, the flexing of the wing basically block the view for many many seats in the B787.
@@ndlben7129 Whatever?! I practically live in the air. Due to 787's wind design, there is a much wider/longer attach points to the fuselage and therefore, a lot of seats are "over-wing" seats. The 787's are really great airplanes too but for me well just see above. lol. Oh and the video clip of singapore airlines just made me feel sad because I haven't flown them yet ;( Keep up the great work!!!
Hi Scott, I actually flew with both of them. A350-900 with Singapore Airlines from Singapore - Milan while Oman Air B787-9 from London - Muscat. They are both an excellent bird. I will choose both of them as winner. It all depends the airlines that you fly with.
I’ve flown on both and I have to say I prefer the A350. It’s a very comfortable and quiet aircraft, in fact it’s only one I’ve actually gotten sleep on; plus I love the little things like the exterior cameras on the IFE.
The “jungle jet” is the emb145 nicknamed that because of where embraer calls home. I know because I used to fly it and that’s what the crj200 guys had to hurl at us.
A350 hands down in economy due to seat width (exception - JAL's 2-4-2 787). The 787's Window's are a gimmick, I think the dimming is worse than a shade in direct sunlight. In business or first I'd imagine it depends much more on carrier.
Disagree about the 787 windows. I love them. Yes ok Boeing should never have given lockout to the crew, but apart from that they are great. I book a window seat to see out the window, its kind of the point, and regardless of dimmer settings on the 787 I can see out the window, as opposed to the outdated window shade on the A350. Also when it comes to opening the shades for landing, the 787 gradually increases the light level as opposed to whipping up the shades and getting greeted with the solar death ray instantly rendering you blind for the next 30 seconds.
I have to rage about the people who hate the 787 windows being controlled by the crew. I was on LOT Polish 787 and the crew did dim the windows, but still gave control to the passengers. That was a mistake. A very few passengers undimmed their windows which created an effect like a pinhole camera and lit up the entire cabin. So I’m for crew controlled windows or lock out the settings up to 50% dimmed.
I have flown the both 787 and A350 aswell as A380 and 747, All of these aircraft, The A380 wins for me because it had the most seat width and the quietest I ever flown on. Even though the A350 says it’s quieter, the A380 is actually 8 decibels quieter than the A350. That’s why it always wins for me.
Definitely the 787. I've flown on each both directions from JFK-MAD and I've found that the 787 is a little bit quieter and fares better during turbulence in-flight than the '350, mainly due to (I believe) the rear engine cowling having that wavy flare. But to be honest, the sound of the GE's on the 787 during takeoff takes the win.
in my experience it was the opposite. the 787 is considerably noisier during cruise. Especially wind noises from the outside and hydraulic noises. While take off the A350 is louder. When it comes to smoothness both are more o less the same. The A350 appears a bit more solid, while the 787 handles turbulences due to its extreme wingflex quite good. The dimmalbe windows are a nightmare. Cabin crew can make a daytime flight to a nightflight arbitrarily. What is the purpose of such huge windows when they are dimmed completly dark during 90 percent of the flight. Even during night flights. No possibility to see orange citylights from the sky and the stars above.
I love the A350, I think it looks fabulous and has a great interior no matter what airline operates it. However, I think the 787 is a bit hit or miss. Edit: No CRJ200s were harmed during the making of this video
@@ndlben7129 It is a hit and miss! Again, you don't fly a lot... When you are on the plane and spend more time in the air than on the ground, you will realize how true this statement is. United 787 looks like crap... JAL's 787 fares much better. Because 787 had a weight issue that the design did not achieve original planned operating efficiencies, Boeing told the airline to cut weight. Therefore, really really thin and lightweight seats were created... and 9th seat were inserted in economy to reach the promised per passenger operating efficiency claim. For crappy airlines that added 9th seat and used super thin seats, the experience is terrible. For the top performing airlines, like JAL, they kept the 8-abreast economy for their long haul fleet, and used high quality seats. Therefore, you really do get a very different experience. A350, on the other hand, is very very similarly configured... airline after airline, the experience is similar and very consistent, they all use 9-abreast economy and because of less weight restrictoin, they use higher quality seats, allowing for better passenger comfort.
@@whiskerboii2466 I have been in one and it's not good.. I think you need to try the JAL 8-abreast or Singapore's 350's 9-abreast to realize Norwegians 787 economy is not great.
I have flown on both planes and I think that the 787 is much more powerful and also quieter and I really like the way the 787 gets up off the runway, it's like it floats up rather than just lifting up like the other planes do.
Flown on both but on a long haul flight, the A350 edges it for me. Also, knowing how Boeing has been lately, with build quality and safety, I do have that in the back my mind when flying on their newer aircraft. Put me in any old Boeing aircraft before 787 and I've got no problem.
They are both brilliant aircraft. Having had the pleasure to fly them both a lot and be involved with the building of them. They are both fabulous planes, a thousand years ahead of an older plane.
i’ve flown on the a350 4 times with Qatar airways!! And i flew on the 787 3 times. Twice on Oman air and once with Qatar. I think i might prefer the a350 more.
The 707 will probably always be my favorite airliner, but I know the four engines are no longer efficient. When it was first introduced one of my neighbors took me to see it in person, and I was so impressed. I can appreciate the energy efficiency of todays jetliners like the Dreamliner, which has become my new favorite, but the 707 will always be my favorite beauty wise, where everything came together to create the perfect plane.
I'm normally a Boeing guy, but for some reason I'd take the 350 over 787 any day! Haven't flown an A350 yet, but every one of my 787 flights has been with American...between the cities of Dallas and Chicago or vice versa...
Ive flown in both, but pick the 787, mainly because of the extreme wing flex, and the nice design. Also it is very spacious. A350 is also great, but it feels smaller when I go inside. But a big part of that choice is because I wish to fly the 787 one day.
I've never flown in an A350 but if I had a choice I would avoid 787, or for that matter, any new Boeing products at all cost. The seats in the economy for 787 are so narrow you'd constantly rub shoulder with whoever sits next to you.. While the dimming windows and curving wings are nice gimmicks, the discomfort from the narrow seats truly makes it a nightmareliner, especially on an international flight that takes over 10 hours.
ironically boeing cockpits feels more appealing to me. Im hoping to go with boeing when I become commerical pilot. Btw, no matter how advanced the plane is, if you paint that cockpit into blue, its not advanced anymore but a cold war soviet flying tractor lmao.
Good to see you as always. I give my vote to the A-350 mainly because of the ability of the cabin crew to control the windows in the B-787. Talk about triggered! Give a little power to any employee of any company or government office and you know that their proclivity to meanness will come shining through. I have actually screamed along with the UA-camr filming a great shot out of the window when...BAM...the window slowly darkens and the "shot of the flight" is ruined. UGH. 😂. Thanks for entertaining me today and also allowing me to comment about one of my all time pet peeves😊. Keep 'em coming buddy! ♥️🛫🙏🏽🌎
A350 for me! Bigger seats, less noises, and the black tint of the windows of the 787 is horrible when the sun is shining, it makes the windows insanely hot.
No love for the Canadian CRJ200... so sad. They've taken me many a times from Toronto to Sydney (YQY not SYD). They're a bit nicer than the old Dash 8-100s.
@Zayd M Aviation haha, its only about 2 hours from YYZ to Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada (YQY). Funny enough, every few years we get tourists arrive in our small little town who intended to visit Australia.
Evening Scott, In general, there are things I like about both aircraft and things I dislike about both aircraft. A350 I find to be more legroom/ spacious for passengers. B787 to me has much more comfortable seating. A/C for me sees Boeing install A/C that doesn't make my sinuses ache. Ergonomic layout of the seats, I think Boeing is better. On "sound pollution" I think Airbus have quieter aircraft I think. I look forward to your next video. PS I did stay until the end 😜
A350 pure and simple. As a proud American and frequent long-haul flyer, I have to swallow my pride. B787 is a good plane compare to the other aging Boeing fleet, but A350 is technically more advanced in every regard. In a practical manner, A350 is also more comfortable for passengers. Having flown both of them frequently, I would definite not fly in Economy on a B787, pure and simple.
How is the A350 more advanced? Every engineering video I’ve seen has been about how the 787 is such a technological marvel. I’m actually curious I’m not trying to start a fight!
@@Bubuchga Are you joking?!?! A350 use more composite material, higher cabin humidity, lower noise level, more fuel efficient than B787. It has better bin design, better mood light design... I am an American, but objectively speaking, Airbus put in a lot of efforts to one up on Boeing and it shows... A350 left the factory hitting operating economics but B787 didn't. Much of the B787 savings comes from using super lightweight material in the cabin that airlines were forced to use earlier. Check out the first batch of B787 that are in the sky and you will see how badly they've aged.
@@_w_w_ the 787 uses more carbon composite than the 350 and has higher humidity plus it has lower noise and most airlines are using the 10 abreast configuration. That makes it alot less comfortable than a 787.
I am one of the three that watched to the end! I haven't flown either one; was supposed to have my first 787 flight in March with Virgin Atlantic, but then COVID happened and work cancelled my trip :( As someone who always likes to keep my window open, I thought the 787 window shades were a good idea to let you still see outside while not bothering your neighbor. I see it hasn't panned out that way! Hopefully one day I'll get to see what the fuss is all about.
The A350 and 787 are not competitors except the 787-10. The 787 competes with the A330neo and the A350 competes with the 777 and also will compete with the 777X.

I did Singapore Airlines 787 10 and Singapore Airlines A350 both in Jan this year and the A350 seemed more spacious within the economy cabin over all. 787 10 sounded a bit clunky , but that probably had to do with being seated near the wing. My other trips, all on 787 9's have been with Air New Zealand, Qantas and with Scoot and all pretty damn fine rides.
It sounds clunky because, underneath the pimp interior trim, is a shoddily made piece of garbage made by literal crackheads. They are all slowly coming unglued. Boeing had to recall a bunch of them but it's not going to be enough. Just a matter of time until they start falling out of the sky, probably on one of those transpacific Qantas flights. Good luck.
I love the A350, it's more advanced in pretty much every aspect. Quieter, more spacious, wider seats, higher humidity levels and more! Regardless both are terrific aircraft The one thing that Is a super win for the Boeing 787 are the larger Windows.
3:58 the "brown tint" is no big deal the tint should definitely be controlled by the crew. again a350 loses on this one. its done to keep "aviation photographer's enthusiasm curbed, when people are trying to sleep . Thank you Boeing!
Man, I am one the last 3 that watch your video. I really liked (Thumbs up pressed). Hope you keep on with this refreshing way of making planes and flight video. Thanks !! By the way, I love the 787, windows are great, so I have to disagree with you, but I do hate too that cabin crew can override your settings.
Hi SanSpotter, I flew on a 787 last year flying from London Gatwick to Punta Cana with TUI, and I thought it was a pretty good experience. I haven’t flown the A350 yet, but I heard it’s pretty good as well.
What is the pressurization difference? I feel in general the airbuses (not the 350) have a higher pressurization and affects people who are sensitive to higher levels.
I generally agree, but you absolutely have to consider the airline's choice of cabin layout. The same aircraft can be a totally different experience based on that. You have to research the seat pitch and width ahead of time. Also, the JAL 787 infotainment box in the foot resting area was murder from SAN to NRT. I love a window seat, but that has me looking at the middle-aisle seats to save some leg discomfort. No, actual leg pain.
If i had a choice to fly on which plane it'll be which ever one they provide on a private flight, as for these 2 which ever plane ticket is cheapest and which ever plane that ticket is on.
I prefer 350 I was on a Lufthansa A-350 from O’hare to Munich and back and I loved the flights. It’s also my personal favorite plane. With that said I still like the 787 and plan to catch a flight in one in the near future.

A350 hands down in economy due to seat width (exception - JAL's 2-4-2 787). The 787's Window's are a gimmick, I think the dimming is worse than a shade in direct sunlight. In business or first I'd imagine it depends much more on carrier.
I like both the A350 & the 787 Dreamliner over older aircraft.
Haven’t flown a Dreamliner yet so at the moment it’s A350 for me
Disagree about the 787 windows.
Yes the windows on the 787 are amazing
A350 forever! my favorite aircraft
Great video, Scott! Thank you!
Thanks Mate 👍
787
Have flown on a 787 5 times and every time it was a smooth flight and I fought the window shaders were amazing 🤩
I agree
in my experience it was the opposite. the 787 is considerably noisier during cruise.
Lol!
"The 787 is a bit hit or miss"...
This is why the 787 outsells the A350? ... 🙄
@@_w_w_ Norwegian's 787...
I don't think I can look at one the same way after riding one of them
@@whiskerboii2466 I have been in one and it's not good.. I think you need to try the JAL 8-abreast or Singapore's 350's 9-abreast to realize Norwegians 787 economy is not great.
From a passenger perspective, and having taken multiple long haul flights on both, I would also choose the A350 every time.
I have flown on both planes and I think that the 787 is much more powerful and also quieter and I really like the way the 787 gets up off the runway, it's like it floats up rather than just lifting up like the other planes do.
the A350 is quieter according to a decibal measurer
Either for me. Just can’t wait to fly any of them again. Anyway thanks for the latest vid. Keep them coming
I like them both but if I have to choose one I would choose the b787 but only by a little bit though
Flown on both but on a long haul flight, the A350 edges it for me. Also, knowing how Boeing has been lately, with build quality and safety, I do have that in the back my mind when flying on their newer aircraft. Put me in any old Boeing aircraft before 787 and I've got no problem.
A350 all the way!!!
I think i might prefer the a350 more.
its gotta be one of those videos i never skip a second
and im actually serious
I would prefer the 350 for the wider seats. Outside of the size of the seats. I feel that both planes are quite similar
787 for sure!
But a big part of that choice is because I wish to fly the 787 one day.
the 787 is nothing but spacious, it is the most cramped airliner ever
BOTH, Like both
been on both a few times. both are amazing
Passengers prefer A350, premium airlines also prefer A350, second tier airlines prefer 787
I have flown on both A350 and 787 frequently. I'd picked A350 any day. Quieter, more spacious, etc.
I thought the term jungle jet was used to refer to the ERJ145 in reference to the Amazon in Embraer's home country Brazil...
"New" in airplane industry is a bigdeal always.
@@_w_w_ I know the first batch of 787 had some issues, but I never really thought the A350 was THAT groundbreaking. I’ll look into it more, thanks!
@@_w_w_ the 787 uses more carbon composite than the 350 and has higher humidity plus it has lower noise and most airlines are using the 10 abreast configuration. That makes it alot less comfortable than a 787.
@@_w_w_ the 787 is more fuel efficient and has a cheaper operating cost.
loved this video you can say what you want and feel
I am one of the three that watched to the end! I haven't flown either one; was supposed to have my first 787 flight in March with Virgin Atlantic, but then COVID happened and work cancelled my trip :(
As someone who always likes to keep my window open, I thought the 787 window shades were a good idea to let you still see outside while not bothering your neighbor. I see it hasn't panned out that way! Hopefully one day I'll get to see what the fuss is all about.
both but first I would choose A350
The A350 and 787 are not competitors except the 787-10. The 787 competes with the A330neo and the A350 competes with the 777 and also will compete with the 777X.
The A350-1000 also competes the A340-600.
@@GarlandTexasSpotter2024how can A350-1000 compare with A346 when A346 was produced from 2001-2012 and A350-1000 from 2018 and both are from same manufacturer
What about the most important comparison of all, safety?
Wow. Hardest choice ever!
A350 and 787 are my 2 favorites!
Too tight in economy on the 787
He lives!!! BTW that new SANspotter logo is fly (pun intended). As someone who suffers from Sahara-esque dry sinuses on long flights this video is well appreciated
Good luck.
We want just want 1k subs! Awesome video as always. A-350 is hopefully in the near future
787, only because of the wing flex, the wing flex trumps all
I love the A350, it's more advanced in pretty much every aspect. Quieter, more spacious, wider seats, higher humidity levels and more!
Regardless both are terrific aircraft
The one thing that Is a super win for the Boeing 787 are the larger Windows.
3:58 the "brown tint" is no big deal
the tint should definitely be controlled by the crew. again a350 loses on this one. its done to keep "aviation photographer's enthusiasm curbed, when people are trying to sleep . Thank you Boeing!
Haven’t flown on either one of them yet. But I do like the CRJ’s but only for very short, and I do mean short, flights.
Never a Scott video without the shoes
Man, I am one the last 3 that watch your video. I really liked (Thumbs up pressed). Hope you keep on with this refreshing way of making planes and flight video. Thanks !! By the way, I love the 787, windows are great, so I have to disagree with you, but I do hate too that cabin crew can override your settings.
Hi SanSpotter, I flew on a 787 last year flying from London Gatwick to Punta Cana with TUI, and I thought it was a pretty good experience. I haven’t flown the A350 yet, but I heard it’s pretty good as well.
787 is very cramped compared to A350
What is the pressurization difference?
Sweet video man!
I prefer 350 I was on a Lufthansa A-350 from O’hare to Munich and back and I loved the flights. It’s also my personal favorite plane. With that said I still like the 787 and plan to catch a flight in one in the near future.
It's called A350, not A-350.
Ashley Beard Fine I’ll change it for you but I don’t care if I say it right or wrong. There’s nothing wrong with saying A-350 but i guess I’ll change it for you.
@@Ash-vm6vyLol
CRJ 200 was designed for human shaped sardines. Not for real humans.
It's a Private Jet is really what it is.
A350. Been on both both excellent planes but I do prefer the 350
is the A350 the quietest aircraft so far ? how does it compare to the A380 ?
A380 is quieter
Haha Scott love those faces your making in the bathroom mirrors 😂
I would prefer to fly on the A350 to the 787 if I fly from Guangzhou to Sydney or Melbourne non-stop!
