I've been seeing so many videos of these coyotes. I think it's important to know that they seem to be different in different areas (as in, some are timid, some don't care and are brave). There was someone in a wheelchair being followed apparently for blocks- in the city on a busy street, mind you- and the person who witnessed that caught up to the w/c person and was able to scare off the coyote. Who wasn't happy to give up it's prey, apparently 😶
I live in Arizona now, and walk my dog in the early morning. I have had one follow me (think it lost it's mom?); it kept doing it on and off for a few months. What I do for coyotes is yell at them and shine a flashlight on them. Maybe wiggle it back and forth, get them disoriented. Don't give up; I do those things, go back to walking, and turn around and yell at them again. Point, wave, let them know you're paying attention to them specifically and not just anything else around. They don't like that. My worst coyote encounter was 3 who were scavenging roadkill. Make sure they know you are not interested in things like that, just that you don't want them. 2 of the 3 were happy to cross the street away from me, but the third guy was more interested in me. I made sure to be extra aggressive and it headed off with the other ones. Idk about throwing rocks, but maybe it could help. I do carry pepper spray, haven't needed it yet.
I hope that's helpful. I live in a city, but because of the geography, we have to have washes. Therefore there's a lot of wildlife about, and that's why I've encountered so many coyotes. There have been many in the neighborhood and that's normal here. They are nocturnal animals, and don't like the flashlights in their face, so I have started carrying flashlights in the day. I mean, it's annoying for us, so you can imagine them. I will repeat what the guy said; DO NOT FEED THE COYOTES! They hunt perfectly fine, they don't need help. You can even appreciate them since they probably can take care of area rodents. They help each other, hence the howling. They do not need help. If they look sickly, that's because they are and basically need putting down. Call the police. They have each other's back & don't need human help living. Relocating, fine. But they shouldn't be interested in humans. Don't cause them to be!
WHY are you NOT keeping TRACK of Coyote's populations?!!
First of all , keep your cats indoors!
So on the morning of November 20th I went out for my run about 5:45 am. I was surrounded by 4 coyotes on all sides. I screamed and yelled at them to leave, and they absolutely were not afraid of me at all. I eventually had to go back inside. The situation is getting out of control.
Ive seen a huge pack pics from my nephew these coyotes in Tigard & seen myself. They don't look like the kind I have where I live in a rural place. There's interbreeding seen it myself from our german shepherd who ran off & seen the pups this is not just your normal coyotes from the forest. More & more are in the cities! These coyotes weren't even afraid of humans. Relocate especially after the one who ran after a child. 😮 many out of their area ! Yes, suburban sprawl, but they shouldn't be in heavily populated areas.
How about you relocate
Crap, that's scary!😯
I live in SE close to Powell Butte. I've seen them occasionally over many years. I thought it was just a normal thing out here.
I love the songdog
Since introducing the invasive alaskan grey wolf to our local forests the indigenous coyotes have been losing their normal hunting grounds and food sources. They are now forced to compete for food sources within our cities and suburbs. There are many good protein sources such as rats, cats and small children to help the packs survive and in fact thrive so it should be expected to see many more in our future.
I want a Coyote Pup!
That guy sounds like a high schooler
