  • I just finished going through this winch, had a minor issue getting it to run, so disconnected the solenoids to troubleshoot. After finding that painting the end of the motor housing results in insulating the ground brushes from ground - and fixing that - the winch was tested sans solenoids first, then with them.

I notice the contactor box is mounted on top of the winch and not at the motor end like original. Did you use the same bracket and move it to center, or fabricate a new bracket?

The bracket that was on it would allow for either position, but I eventually bought this one: searchers.mybigcommerce.com/searchers-pro-winch-solenoid-mount/

Thank you for the maintenance clips for the winch. I want to ask you. I have an American Warn winch. It seems that there is a problem, and it is during the towing. It works. When the towing stops, it loosens and returns the trailer and does not continue to the state of tension. One of the technicians told me that the winch clutch must be changed, so is what he said correct. Thank you

If I'm understanding your question, I think the technician is correct.

The winch is designed to spool the wire out usually under the drum otherwise the brake does not work correctly , though I imagine the gentleman's question has long been resolved
