    You need a momentary switch for the water. Spray some water to get it started, then stop the water. If you are constantly spraying water, the tires are being cooled and then won't smoke. Only spray more water to continue the burn out only when the tires start to grip.

    • @Scientwisted
      @Scientwisted 2 роки тому

      They may know that, but the issue is the rear wheels have way too much grip. Once they dry a bit they'll stop spinning and it'll push through the fronts. I know theres a balance of spray and dont, but that can be a distraction. They'll probably figure something out.

    • @justinoliver1984
      @justinoliver1984 2 роки тому +1

      @@buckykattguitar I think I actually remember that... Wouldn't even begin to sit between the rails would it? Think Ike said it'd be much more cost efficient, easier, and better all around... To just start from scratch if that's what they had decided to put in it.

    • @jstephenallington8431
      @jstephenallington8431 2 роки тому

      There were too many issues with using the Ducati engine, didn't fit in the frame, sat too high for the driver to look over the top of it, the drive sprocket/jack shaft wasn't going to line up and last but not least, the frame just wasn't going to be beefy enough for that motor. The 'Rail Cart' was supposed to be a retro-style front engine, rear wheel drive driveway rocket that got a little over built, much to my delight!
      I would like to see it re-imagined as a rear engine (whole new frame, of course) rear wheel drive IHRA style jr. dragster, but that might be over thinking the whole project.

    • @jamesterry9561
      @jamesterry9561 2 роки тому

      Big cc 2 stroke would be cool on the rail. Be easier to fit in the frame and lots of power in a small light engine

    The line lock idea was genius! The word Ike was looking for was "cantilever." I agree about making it failsafe in the unlock position. But, having it spring loaded to the "lock" guarantees positive engagement while its sliding on the rotor surface before it grabs the notch. That's how parking pawls are on transmission drums. Great series!! It's been most fun!

I used a complete windshield washer system with the spray heads mounted in the trunk over the tires spraying down, with the pump and washer tank in the trunk under the speaker tray. I used VHT traction compound mixed with Isopropyl alcohol to give me a big advantage on nasty asphalt and concrete around town.

    The piece that Charles removed from the front end is commonly known as a wishbone front end.
    The biggest reason you’re not getting smoke is because the tires are too wet and not getting hot enough to smoke. Basically, the tires are staying to cold.

    I would love to see back to back timed drag races of three 25hp engines in the same kart. 212, 420 and 670. Is bigger more better?

    • @kevinsellsit5584
      @kevinsellsit5584 2 роки тому

      This is an interesting statement/question.
      Without actually doing "back to back timed drag races of three 25hp engines in the same kart" I would like to answer the question ... or at least give my opinion on the result.
      Question: "Is bigger more better?" Yes. There is no replacement for displacement.
      More specifically, it is easier to produce more reliable torque by increasing displacement than by modifying a smaller engine.
      Now that the question is answered let's look more closely at the challenge statement which is by no means a good way to answer the above question.
      With only a few specified rules this sounds simple enough but that is far from the case.
      1)Three vastly different engines which somehow produce the same horsepower ... not likely, but whatever.
      2)All tests in one kart, timed, and back to back.
      I would need to know which engine you want to come in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd?
      Even though we already decided bigger is (more) better, getting the biggest engine to win would be the hardest outcome to produce. Likely done by using a massive heavy kart so the smaller engines wouldn't have a chance.
      Nevertheless, I am sure I can get ANY results you want for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
      Using a light kart would result in a win by weight result ... Lighter is better.
      Choosing a specific horsepower is the strangest part of the challenge.
      Horsepower is, after all, simply a number derived from the force that actually moves the kart. Torque.
      Horsepower is TORQUE X RPM (divided by) 5252.
      These three engines make drastically different amounts of torque at different peak RPM. On a dyno graph, on ALL THREE ENGINES the horsepower and torque lines will cross at exactly 5252 RPM. On any dyno graph for any engine.
      This torque is what will allow me to make any of the engines come in any order you want.
      So again, I ask you which engine do you want to win?

  • @octane613

    Back in High School I had a 1973 Honda CVCC (Gen 1 Civic).... I took the window washer lines and placed them over the front tires. (holes made by a hole punch) I then added some WD-40 and Bleach in with the water in the washer tank. When we'd have burnout contests, I'd pull up the parking brake (locking the rear wheels) press on the windshield washer button for a few seconds as I was starting the burnout, and start shifting. (3rd gear was where the magic happened) If it started to get a little traction and bog down, a quick tap or two on the washer button... RPM's would come up, and so would the abundance of smoke.
    Considering the tires were 600x12's, they didn't last long at all... but you could pick them up at the junkyard complete with wheels for about $3.00 a pop (pun intended) and winner usually got $20.00- it was cheap fun. (until Dad caught the 1/2" of rubber caked in the fender wells)
    And just like that.... I was walking again.
