I built the 2009 offline Vegas version in an old asus tower case. I mounted the i/o and cid inside. i used two rear panel parallel port connectors to adapt my jammma harness to make it into a portable system. mine runs in 720p hdmi 1080p vga. My temporary control pane is a piece of construction foam sheeting. Also had to put a fan on the video card. A case actually collects more dust via the fans.

GameWorks in Schaumburg, IL had this or close to it. In a huge building of games and arcades, my brother and I played bowling all day lol I do remember "charging the ball for speed" by frantically spinning the ball forward, not sure what game it was though!
Maybe a spacer and longer screws to keep the board off the wood. Air flow under it?? If you hunt in the BIOS you might find the fans and deselect them?
In my experience, a case is only a dust collector bin anyway. Whoever said it protects from dust must live in an office that gets filtered HVAC and has full-time custodial service. In other news, my experience with MSI is failing fans that lead to overheats. As far as bowling, that 2-7-8 baby split is typically picked up by coming in from the right with hook, so that the 2 deflects into the 7 and the ball continues into the 8. Pick a heavier ball for that. Alternatively, hit the 2 just slightly left so that the 2 still hits the 8 and the ball deflects into the 7. A lighter ball works better for that strategy. For a 4-10 or 6-7 split, you can slide the front pin sideways into the other, but only with near perfect aim. For 7-10, bouncing off the back is the only hope. For end pins, diagonal shots give you a better chance of hitting the pin even if you throw a little wide towards the gutter.

You guys rock & how you approach these systems should be shown to tech students worldwide & anyone troubleshooting any type of system whether it be electronic based or not.. I'm also slowly restoring a Pengo video tabletop game which was originally mangled & your tips have been immensely helpful as it's been years since I had studied Z80s , 74LS logic (even with a scope and Fluke 9000!) & had worked full time in organisations doing board level repairs over 20 years ago even though I had studied all this back then in college during the 1980s but it's amazing how much one forgets over time. Please keep up the awesome work. Donnie is hilarious, subbed there as well!. As long as the CPU fan is running, in open air it will be quite happy. The dust won't be an issue. Dust gets inside computer caes all the time, quite a lot too. This will probably stay cleaner than inside a case. I would use standoffs to hold the motherboard off the wood a bit, just to allow better airflow underneath and to avoid any chance of a short. Necessity is the mother of invention they say. An open frame PC to get this up and rolling was definitely a necessity :)
It seems to be working pretty good, I have one more I'm going to make because we have one more cabinet with the case missing... I need to find a better way to hold the video card...
It used to be that drive manufacturers (at least some of them) did not recommend mounting the drives with the long side perpendicular to the floor. But that was probably 15 -20 years ago (or maybe more) so things may have changed.
Power Supply toenailed with galvanized screws, so only one hanging strap is required. I LOVE THIS. Sorry for shouting. Did Donnie install that, Ronnie?

Ron a raspberry pi pc is about the size of the security dongle and much more powerful than that motherboard, but your custom pc is much more fun looking.
The whole thing is the software will only run on certain motherboards and video cards, they lock out the other hardware.... so you're kind of stuck using old stuff at the moment.
I think the hum is coming from the monitor because of how close the I/O board is to it. In my ssb09 I/O board i don't notice any hum. If i am not mistaken the hum can result from the way the audio cable is routed in cabinet it can act as an antenna.
@@CrazyMan_Engineer the choke should eliminate that. You can also try an old cable TV trick which installers used to do on leaky lines. use aluminum foil and wrap the audio wires all the way with aluminum foil and see if that eliminates the hum and if that still doesn't work put a metal box around the i/o board
Wish I could find working parts here in Australia for this game, Computer inside is dead, maybe power supply too, fans spin but nothing after that, bought an identical main board and it wont boot either. Was going to be a surprise for the wife since she likes bowling. But sadly the surprise was an angry wife cause I bought something that I can not get parts for. Might end up making a joystick control panel and putting MAME in it now.

SSB is the first arcade game I got. Just fixed it up with a GT and a switcher. Is it easy enough to copy the harddrive? I'd like a spare incase it fails at some point.
You want to use a little program called "HDD Raw Copy Tool Portable", it's free and really easy to use, hook the old hard drive up to your computer, make a copy to your computer of it, then you can use that file to burn as many as you want.

I got to the point where it asks me to start but I'm worried it's going to delete my pc harddrive by over writing it with the SSB drive. I thought it would just create a file on my pc that I can then copy into a new drive but it's talking about creating partitions on my pc and stuff. Cheers.
Great video You are very knowledgable! Question - I have a SSB 2009. Do you know if the security chip would accept a 2004 version if I wanted to downgrade by changing hard drives? I also hear some earlier versions of 2007 have Vegas bowling as well.
If you try to use any other version of SSB on your 2009 setup without changing the necessary components, you will get a red screen "Software incompatible with hardware." In order for the original SSB software to work, you need that specific security chip, a #17 CID (#19 only works with 2007 and newer), and hard drive with the original SSB on it. As for 2007, the last version that had offline Vegas enabled was version 1.00.18.

Looks good. The addition of a fan over the GPU and chipset would keep them a little cooler but honestly I don't think it will really matter. There should also be a place to disable the warning that the board is throwing for the fan though. And the case is no big deal, built many little systems and just mounted them to a piece of plywood though I do prefer to use the little standoff adapters that will thread into the piece of wood and then allow the regular PC screws to thread in and mount the board. Not sure the jumpers are needed for the audio either since usually the front panel board is just open when not connected but if it works no big deal right. And I often get ahold of the little mini pc's that cook parts and then add power connectors in to add an extra fan or two so they get a lot more airflow. Little information, LiLo is a linux loader. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LILO_(boot_loader) And the OS for the system is linux without a doubt, you can tell because it started showing things like "/dev" which is devices. I would love to sit down with a copy of the OS though, bet there are a ton of things to tinker with in there, LOL. Would be a fun game to play for sure, too bad they shut the service down for playing the Vegas version as I agree it would be a lot of fun. But again with a copy of the software that may be something that can be tinkered with. Bet it can be ran on a lot more hardware than the original if you can get into the command line. But it never fails that when playing yourself the other one will win, that is where you pick at the end and then always win.
I looked it up on the motherboard manual and they claimed you needed the jumpers for the back but who knows.. I need to get some of those standoff adapters you're talking about! Would probably recommend replacing the thermal paste between the CPU and fan/heatsink... Usually 5+ year old thermal paste isn't great at transfering heat between the CPU and heatsink. If replaced, you'll normally get about a 10% to 15% better heat dissipation off the CPU, which is obviously good for longevity.
On older "AC97" systems the audio codec chip only had one set of outputs and the front panel jack had physical switches to disconnect the rear panel audio jack. So if you wanted to use the board in a case without front panel audio connectors you had to put jumpers on the audio header. On modern "HD Audio" systems the front and rear outputs are fed from separate outputs on the codec chip, so the jumpers are no longer needed.
Kind of curious now if this could be done with virtual machines by now like just a generic intel i5 assign 1 core 1 gb ram & hardware accelerated gpu passthrough with like a gt 210 for dvi & whatever the security chip is hooked up & detected by the virtual machine.
I think i can... I build pc arcade here in the Philippines and i always turn off almost all error detection except for processor temp in the bios😊 i am a huge fan in classic arcade repairs and i know you're an expert at that.

Oh no you might have to clean the PC inside the game eventually, the horror! It's always hilarious to me as a tech, people either care way to much about dust or they don't care at all even a little. To be honest i prefer the latter cus they bring their computers into my shop 😈

Unfortunately it's a software thing in the Incredible Technologies setup not in the BIOS... so there's no way to disable it.

Try putting in a CHOKE A/V Red & White RCA cable, that might eliminate the hum in the audio

Try hitting you local recycling center. You can probably find old computer cases for next to nothing.

You shouldn't get a sound board error, it uses the on board sound. Is it an 'in/out" board error?
Couldn't you have gone into the motherboard BIOS and disabled the case fan setting? Then you wouldn't have to rig the tac signal.
Unfortunately you can't, it's not a BIOS setting it's a software setting from Incredible Technologies.

The only problem with the Hot Glue Gun is once that PC REALLY gets cookin' with no fan on it, the glue will melt and the power supply falls off.
