The 129 has higher front camera resolution. If someone backends you a low resolution camera will be sufficient as they will be so close. No point in having a wide angle lens if the camera resolution cannot read the number plate. You cant see the difference in resolution here as the uploader only uploaded it to youtube in 1080p! lol.
The footage from the 4k version appears to be ever so slightly better... sometimes. The bitrate is definitely holding it back. Probably a limitation of sdcard storage.
The big thing I noticed is low light conditions and if you look at certain street lights you will see how the image sensor reacts differently by having Sony STARVIS. But overall both very great units
I had the A129 Pro Duo in my Frontier Crew Cab. Yes, the cable to the rear was FAT but its a truck, plenty of room. But the problem was... in the summer the adhesive would melt on the hot glass. And because its a truck the back window is slap vertical. The dang camera would slide down to the bottom sill, not be seeing anything, and leave a sticky mess on my glass. Now I have a '21 Mazda6 and the A229 rear camera is perched directly over the 3rd brake light. It is solidly in place and seeing everything all the time.

Your videos really did help me with a ton of information and helped me decide on a dashcam. I got a 129. Apart from all the good things and short comings covered here, I felt a couple of things were missing and which were important for me. I wanted to have a 4 side coverage. Since there are none such around (at least I could not find it), I decided to go for 2 dashcams with a dual (front & rear) cameras. So in all 4 different views from 2 different dashcams (front & rear twice). Here is where I ran into a couple of issues that were important for me. 1.I cannot connect 2 different Viofo Dashcams to my Viofo App on my mobile app simultaneously. This is the case even if both were Viofo Dashcams. I will have to decide which of the two I want to connect my mobile to. Alternatively, I will have to buy myself another mobile phone connection and then have both the Dashcam recordings in two separate mobiles. 2. The second is that I cannot connect a single A 129 to two different mobiles simultaneously. Say if I were to loose my mobile, my 2nd mobile would have all the recordings (even though the loss of my mobile would be bad, my recordings may just save the day). Imaginary/ Hypothetical ? Not really. I actually have this on a GPS tracker that I use. 2 different devices (like 2 different dashcams). Their mobile App can store (and therefore track) multiple devices to a single app. Additionally, I have this on 2 different mobiles (not sure if it can be added on more…did not need it on more). So now I have to decide how I wish to go about the 2nd Dashcam to ensure 4 side coverage - any dashcam other than a Viofo or to live with 2 mobiles each capturing one set of dashcams. One question: I have the A129 Pro Duo. On the front dashcam, nighttime footage appears very greenish (like a greenish tint). Is that because of the software version (2.8)? Because to me it looks like I‘m the only one with that issue.
So just to clairfy. You are running softare version 2.8? and in night time footage it looks greenish? May i ask when you purchased your unit? Also does it have polarized lens on it? Is there a possibility that the original lens protector was not taken off front camera when originally installed? please let me know happy to help
True, but only a handful have the Green problem, firmware will not resolve it. Return to Viofo. But many people do have issues with the IR in cabin viewing Camera making people and objects appear purplish or tint of green at night. Sometimes you swear they have Red eyes.
Viofo A129Pro has been around a few years. The A229 is a newer model to the market. They are both great units. Really the choice is yours we made this video to provide the facts to allow clients to make the decision that works for them. I prefer the A229 due to bigger screen and Sony STARVIS front and rear.
It is more of a personal preference. I always recommend motion detection (Auto event detection) or time lapse to my clients on most dash cams. If it is a Thinkware typically it is motion detection and energy saving mode. I prefer not to degrade video quality, otherwise why buy a high resolution camera. But it is just my opinion.
I bought the 229 and it is very nice. My old dash cam would cut the satellite radio signal out due to interference from the rear cam. Whereas the 229 has no such problem and the rear camera is great with it's smaller coax cable and smaller size. Very satisfied! Great review! Thanks!

So what you are seeing is downgraded quality of the performance. I have since gotten a better quality video editing software. So to put it in perspective the video is in 1080P. 1920 x 1080 = 2073600 total pixels. Had I put it out in 4K you would have this many pixels 3840 x 2160 = 8294400. 4 times the pixels. Which means I am showing you 1/4 the quality of what this camera is capable of. I realized it shortly after this video and have corrected it to make sure future videos have 4K recording. this video was recorded in 4k with A129 Pro ua-cam.com/video/IHu8c2e0I-s/v-deo.html You will see license plates
@@SafeDriveSolutions Thanks much for explaining...and for the other link...can clearly see the license plates...
Great review, thanks a lot! how about this camera, compared to xiaomi 770 mai 500a dual cam ?
No wonder nobody answered you try changing the flag 🤢
Nice content. Just subscribed 🎉
Thanks.
I'm planning a NYC to LA drive, what's the best dashcam for scenics along the 3500 miles? I need to remove at rest stops, and hotels. 4K and glare reduction would be nice. Thanks.
Hello Billy, the best going dash cam right now for video quality is the Viofo A139 Pro.

Fujifilm X-T5
Why upload the video in 1080p? This way we can never see the real difference between the 1440p en 4k video.
Both these dash cams are basically discontinued or are about to be discontinued. This was when we did bot have proper editing software we do now though
@@SafeDriveSolutions Fair enough! What's the next line-up? I'm looking for a new dashcam but I keep coming back to the A129 Plus or Pro (duo versions), but leaning towards the Plus because the Pro seems to overheat. Or another brand?

can I use my old power magic pro with this for parking?
I would recommend using the Viofo hardwire cable. It is low cost as well. I do not hook them up any other way.
I recently purchased the A129 Plus Duo and was wondering how do I get it to turn on automatically when I start the car..My old Viofo A119 always did? And yes the power supply is hooked up to come on when the car starts so I'm thinking i missed a setting somewhere on this?
Do you have to push the power button manually every time you get in the vehicle?
@@SafeDriveSolutions yes sir...I tried turning on boot delay to 5 seconds no luck. i noticed when i turn off the car, wait a few seconds turn the key it will start up..but over night or even after a few hours I have to manually turn it on..🤷♂
@@watchluver Are you using hardwire cable or cigarette lighter cable? If using a hardwire cable what is your voltage set at?
for twice the price it's really not worthed it. higher resolution is just a gimmick when the sensor size is still the same..
These camera systems are same price. You may be thinking of A139 Pro
Hey i have the viofo a129 pro 4k duo dash cam hardwire to work parking mode . Every 2 days the "rec" record light starts flashing red , then it doesnt let me turn on the screen or anything i have to unplug it , and wait till it powers off then plug it back in . I got it replaced by viofo too . Ive tried different memory cards too . Why is it doing this ? Please any help would be great.
Dropping a video tomorrow with 8 steps to take if your dash camera is beeping from Viofo
In the resolution section you used an A129 pro... not a normal A129
That is correct.
please compare Viofo 139 Pro, A229 Duo and DDPAI X5 Pro
I do not have access to DDPAI X5 Pro. If someone got me one I would test and see how it does.
I don't understand how can the 2k be sharper clearer than the 4k like you can read letters better when zoomed in on 2k
I think it is mainly due to the Sony STARVIS image sensor. the 4K unit does not have the STARVIS image sensor it is using exmor.
Great job
@@richscott2483 this was already resolved. Viofo replaced the unit.
If I want a better day time video quality, which one would be better?
If you want a better day time unit. Personally I would get the Viofo A129 Pro 4K just because of higher resolution.
@@SafeDriveSolutions Alright. Thank you so much for this video and replying. Will go with A129 👍
@@GulshanDhingra Your Welcome
Which one is better and last edition ?
Viofo A129Pro has been around a few years. The A229 is a newer model to the market. They are both great units. Really the choice is yours we made this video to provide the facts to allow clients to make the decision that works for them. I prefer the A229 due to bigger screen and Sony STARVIS front and rear.
Tengo la viofo 119v3 excelente...quiero 229 dash
Awesome
The 256GB gives a total of what, ~20 hours total recording on the A229?
Front and rear will do approx 15 hours of recording on a 256gb.
How would the VIOFO A229 compare to the FineVu GX1000?
Not sure sounds like a question for Finevu dealer as I do not have one to test against it.
@@SafeDriveSolutions - Fair enough.
@@Bacnow i think in coming months I will start purchasing some competitors products and doing comparisons.
Why not low bitrate recording?
It is more of a personal preference. I always recommend motion detection (Auto event detection) or time lapse to my clients on most dash cams. If it is a Thinkware typically it is motion detection and energy saving mode. I prefer not to degrade video quality, otherwise why buy a high resolution camera. But it is just my opinion.
Its all 1080p 😅 u need to upload at 4k 😢
This is very old video before we had proper video editing software.

Thats an old video. Game has been stepped up since then
no difference 😂I would say that 2.7k records better and is very sharp
