There really isn't much of a difference size wise between the the PG Slim/PG and the 1911S/1911L to me. But there is a difference in the size of the nib. A number5 vs a number 6 respectively, and a slight, but noticeable girthier section, but that does make a difference to me. I wish I knew the difference at the time I bought the 1911S, but that was very early on in my collection. Good video.

Nice review. I like my Sailor 1911L in light grey, which was another North American exclusive. The nib is excellent, which is a hallmark for all Sailor pens, particularly the 21K ones. I do wish Sailor would have a pen size between the 1911L and their jumbo King of Pen. I do think the 1911L is somewhat overpriced, but you can't argue with the writing experience it provides you.

This is a gorgeous pen! I do hope I could eventually find that Epinard ink. I do hear the feedback, but I enjoy the sound and feel of Sailor nibs, especially on Tomoe River paper. Congratulations on receiving your pre order. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the watch and comment! I also really love my Sailor nibs, and really all my Japanese pens/nibs. Had a bad experience with my first Sailor, but now they've come to be one of my favorites.

Beautiful pen, the design lines are practically identical to the Mont Blanc Legrand

Great review of this pen! I prefer the Pro Gear version however, but I can't help but admire the beauty of sailor nibs. It looks like a 1911S in your hand though. 😅

Nice... great colour ... Girthy section is a bonus.. but metal on acrylic threads - potentially shortens the life of any pen. A swing and a miss there.

The ONLY downside for the model, as I believe all Pro Gear and 1911 pens have that feature. But, lifespan will be determined with use. I haven't heard of too many of them cracking or coming loose, but then again there aren't a whole lot of 100 year old Sailors like there are Parkers and whatnot. Time will tell!

@@thestationerydev The Naginata Togi 1911L has metal on metal threads. I was pretty surprised when I saw it, but it's nice attention to detail.

@@thestationerydev Come to think of it, I think the Custom 74 and the 3776 also has metal to plastic threads.

Thanks so much for this review! I learned the answers to several questions, so I subscribed. I have three Sailors, and I don’t love my 1911s. It’s so scratchy and dry. I’m using Tomoe River paper and Robert Oster ink, and the nib is Fine. Is there anything I can do to improve performance? I already tried spreading the tines with Goulet’s brass sheets.

Thanks for the view and sub! My recommendation for the scratchy one is first, make sure the tines are aligned properly, and then second, try getting some micro mesh and using that to smooth the nib a bit. Micro mesh is like really fine sandpaper (the one I use is 12,000 grit) and you just make a few figure eights or something on it with your inked pen and it will smooth it down and usually increases flow a little bit too. The key is to do a little bit then test, little bit then test, and so on until you're happy with it.

@@thestationerydev Thanks for the advice! I’m grateful. Will order mesh right away.

Nice pen but small, just like nib size between Japan and Europe… Sailor 1911L is a small pen. Agree KOP is fat. Sailor should have an offering between L and KOP :)

It's not that small. Same size as a Montblanc 146 Le Grand.

I prefer Platinum rather than Sailor Pens. The most interesting Sailor nib is the newest: zoom nib.

I actually was the same, but am starting to come around to Sailor, despite their ridiculous pricing.

It's you. Montblanc looks like a Sailor.
