Question regarding payment card security - why do Americans think it’s OK to hand your credit card to a waiter to take away from you?
That goes completely against what the card issuers say you should ever do - and it’s one reason why card fraud in America remains so stubbornly high even after adopting chip and pin, as there are too many unscrupulous waiting staff who will put through additional charges or skim the card while it’s out of your sight and use it for fraud later (or they sell the card details etc)
The sooner you all catch up on that the better ;)

I think the “why are your plugs so crap” isn’t just America it’s lots of countries. It’s because UK has the safest plugs in the world and we have one of the highest voltages.

    • @cadifan
      @cadifan 2 місяці тому +3

The UK voltage is the same as most of the rest of the world and the plugs are over engineered due to the poorly designed electrical system.

@@cadifanit’s not poorly designed …. there was a copper shortage after ww2 so a ring main system was used requiring some more safety at the socket, such as individual fuses, the other measures, like switches, shielded terminals etc, are just good sense - the data I’ve seen suggest US home electrical deaths and injuries, including fires, are 2-3 times higher in US than UK per capita but this includes wiring faults etc.

@@EmilyCheetham NZ & Australia have the same voltage as UK, (which is 230, it's rated as 240 to cover fluctuations), but have a better electrical system, and our outlets don't need shutters because we don't have holes big enough for a child to stick their fingers in in the first place.

What you call bacon, we call streaky bacon...it's thinner rashers with a higher fat content, made from pork belly, whereas ours has a higher "meat" / less fat content, made from the back and loins of the pig. ...
      My "toilet" question is:
Why do you have so much water in your toilet bowls? - it sits just below your butt, so you get "splashed when you "go" !!
(Ours are flushed clean with the water held in the cystern above the bowl, which washes the contents down in the small amount of water laying in the bottom of the bowl into the waste pipe, instead of "sucking" it down the pipe!!) 🥺😮😊 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿😐🇬🇧❤️🖖

Same with contactless - usa did not use that as quickly as U.K. I was shocked as we expect usa to be ahead of U.K. but actually they are not. Checks (cheques) are hardly used in the U.K. these days. “Middle English: via Old French from Latin herba ‘grass, green crops, herb’. Although herb has always been spelled with an h, pronunciation without it was usual until the 19th century and is still standard in the US.”
So while /latin/ doesn’t have a silent H it comes to English via old French which does, so it was always a silent H in /English/ - until we Brits decided to change it. So the Americans have it more “right” based on how the word came into English.

Spin your set up around so that you aren't splitting the background levels. It will confuse the camera focus less.
That little cove in the corner in the background is perfect for a computer table and if there was a blank wall behind that then it would enable you to change background cheaply and easily.
Just throw a little acoustic padding around to damp the bass if you move the set up to the corner.
It's really not much of a difference but would make things easier and it's a lot easier to change things at the beginning of setting up a new place than towards the end.

the 'chip and pin' thing was a bit of a dated question now, but at the time the vast majority of Americans when using a credit card specifically (debit cards were chip and pin) you still had the old archaic carbon paper signature system where you signed the receipt on carbon paper, the checkout operators would check it against the signature on the card, and keep a copy of the receipt for their records and the customer got the top copy.
as time has passed America has caught up to the rest of the world in terms of payment options, but at the time this video was made and slightly afterwards, America was VERY far behind the rest of the developed world in terms of technological payment systems and cyber security making digital payments an every day thing here in the UK/EU at the time.

Well if that's that colour you definitely made it wrong thats a sauce of some kind not gravy gravy is made with meat juices and you'd typically have it with some kind of roasted meat

Britian was a very early adopter of Chip and PIN. My gripe when I did a lot of travelling in the US (this was a while ago) was at Pay at the Pump Gas Stations, the machine wanting your ZIP code as a security measure when paying by card. Which was kinda stupid when you've got a UK issued card and our Post Codes (the eqivlilent of Zip codes) have letters and numbers in, so you couldn't pay at the pump. You'd have thought that the numpties who designed the machine would have recogniosed that, I mean why ask for a Zip Code to verfify when there's no Zip Code to verfiy against?!?
I hope that they're now Chip and PIN and not using that same old stupid system.

Regarding parties and cups. Yeah for the most part adults will use proper glass tumblers and kids (at the age where they might still be running around with cups in their hands) will use washable plastic beakers. If you are having a big gathering, and you know glasses will be limited, then you might go and buy some throw away plastic cups, but yeah we mostly use "real" glasses for drinks.
