29er VS 27.5 PIVOT CYCES SHOW DOWN - WHAT BIKE IS QUICKER?!!!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 кві 2020
- We take out the Pivot cycles 29er Switchblade and Mach 5.5 - 27.5 trail / enduro bikes to see which is faster... Both bikes have their strong points and both are an absolute hoot! We go to our local loamy track that is less than 1km from my house.
It's got a flat ash start with some lovely tight twisty turns at the bottom.
Its a pinkbike or vital mob dream test but we do it for them and with the two best bikes money can buy in our opinion! haha
Dude my local bike shop has less bikes than that lmao
Mine has more kids bikes but less real bikes
Haha
And no motorcycles...
Dillon Hayes yeah agreed nobody sells decent bikes all entry level

Thank you! That was great fun watching you ride two excellent bikes!!
Well done 👍!! Having a blast chilling and watching you shred. I have a 5.5 and love it very much.
So much fun watching you shred. 27.5 for me as I don’t race and it’s just a blast to jib and jibe and play with on the trails. But they’re all good, most important thing is find the bike you love and go ride. Great vid keep it up.
i had a Sam P. vid and a Bernard K. and I pressed on yours first good job bro!! great vids keep on going
I've owned both wheel sizes at the same time and prefer the 27.5 for a more playful ride. 29er does roll faster but I feel like I can pump the 27.5 wheel better. 29er brakes harder but the 27.5 is more nimble. 29er plows rocks better but i feel like I have more control over the bike and the line with 27.5. Both are great, just pick a size and be a dick about it
Agreed. Dick. ;)
A fun watch! Thanks! Love Pivot bikes...
Best vlog to date.
Raddest two bikes on the market 👍
Nice one
Impressed with how precise u guys got with all the settings and everything
Would like to see u do it again after the lockdown on a longer track, a flow trail, a super rough trail, a really tight twisty trail basically every situation also how u think they feel against each other over jumps. Think im getting cabin fever lol
Glad to see you managed to get some racing in, even if you had to race your self in isolation !
Hope you get to do some more racing & maybe a World cup later on this year !
That was great! I definitely enjoyed this!!
Chocolate Milk and a fan of little bikes..... you just earned a million points in my book. Thank you for not being another one of those market pushing influencer nobs. 99% of people are on stupidly long-low-slack bikes that are way too big. Small bikes are sooooo much fun and where it's at, and I personally, am usually only a few second off of pro riders times on a 2 min track so who gives a shit. Put the stop watches away ride your bike and have fun. :) :) :)
Love these vlogs bro keep it up!
I'm here because he's got a CR 500!!!!!
I really like the way you did the test with the practice runs first and going back and forth between the bikes. Do you think you could do the same test on a techy, rough trail after Corona dies down?
Could you do a similar video but with different suspension set ups to show how much difference a good/bad setup can make? Wicked video though dude 🤘
Hah! I remember Eco ver! My mom was really into eco stuff when I was a kid. We always had that stuff, could refill the bottle at the eco store.. It was always less effective then the chemical super market stuff though..
Cheers Bernard & Barney, this is exactly the head to head test I've been looking for. Have you heard any rumours of a new/replacement for the 5.5? I've tested the Switchblade & being a shortarse riding the same local trails as you I think I'm better on 27.5 but don't want to part with my money on a frame that's 3 or 4 years into its lifecycle.
that was awesome. literally nobody wants to turn up to a race knowing their result could be better on a different wheel size , but nobody wants to lump down £££ if it won’t make them any faster atall .
nice one, my next bike is a 27.5 for sure. Track here are rough and tight as hell, not much chance to gain too much speed.
Hey Bernard i have a question which settings are you running in your fox 36 in term of Compression?
What are your thoughts on mixed wheeling like the old 26 front ,24 rear and the more recent?
I remember being able to outside 😭. Miss the Surrey hills...
Try the Firebird with 27.5 & 29. I'm also kind of interested in seeing how much the flip-chip plays a role. So 4 runs, 1) 29 in high 2) 29 in low 3) 27.5 in high 4) 27.5 in low.
Totally agree with your opinion about everyone upsizing these days
I’ve ridden that line along the hill quite a few times, just recently noticed that down hill track going in, wandered who put it in.
These bikes are STACKED bro holy fox everything!
The Switchblade looks so dreamy. I'd love to own one of these one day. 🤘
those hubs sound so good, kind of like i9 hubs. How much do the team hubs cost?
How do the 5.5 and switchy compare on climbs i.e. For a full session ride??
Hey Bernard
Can you do a pivot pheonix 27.5 vs 29. Thanks mate
Nice Video!!! Could you guys maybe try a mullet setup on the 5.5?! Would be cool! :)
Awesome Landy's 💪🏻
How’s that JS7 125?!?! Gorgeous. How about new fox fork comparison?
just wanna know what hubs are on those bikes, industry nine?
Awesome vid. Super surprised your letting people see in your garage though given what’s in it!
I live in the heat of swindon with security everywhere!
Very nice Series one pal! Wanna see you use that beauty one time?
So after this which of the two you choose as a one bike quiver for local trail riding and to dabble in enduro races from time to time?
650b for life! I'm 6'1" and my 650b hardtail with 439mm reach is the most fun i can have.
What seat post is it Bernard on that 29er please mate??👍🏻👌🏻🇬🇧
Hi bernard. would you one day try the switchblade setup as a mullet to test?
By fitting the X2 on the switchblade does it perform a lot better then the "tuned" DPX2.
The Switchblade would look sick with the new root beer coloured fox 36 that have been released.....
What is the difference in tyre width?
Are you still running 2.6 tyres on the 5.5??
Big wheel in the front of the 5.5, small wheel in the rear of the Switchblade? See how that feels?
I just watched a guy fiddling with his compression for 10 minutes
love your UA-cam channel
Try using the same year and model of Pivot fat bike with rigid fork with wheels 26" 27.5" and 29er and tell us what you think of the feel and speed?
Love the garage
Say bro can you put those 27.5 on the switchblade and do a comparison between the 29” and 27.5” only on the switchblade?
You could take the chains Off and do the same track without the Flat bit. It might ne a little Short for a comparison but Why not...
Driveway goals... sheeesh 😍
Which hub do you use ? Name ?
What trail are you riding? Where is this?
Yes Bernie mate, that was awesome. Best one so far for me. Smaller person so I'd take the 27.5. Another factor to consider?
yeah for sure!
Curious how the Switchblade in 27.5 would feel against the Mach 5.5. Maybe it's the best of both worlds for whatever you are riding on any given day
them I9 hubs hit different, i need some 🤩
They engage so quickly
sick vid you should do a q and a vid and answer some questions. when did you know that you were going to go pro?
We will look into this!
Would like to see the same test on a rocky, rooty trail
You could also mullet the switchblade and let us see how it behaves or shaggy that hill
Bernard, what size Renthal stem are you running?
50 mm !
what helmet is that?
Yooo! How mutch bike are in your garage! 😂🤘🏼Sick dude
Thinking of buying the Mach 5.5. but not sure what size. How tall are you riding medium frames
walker21114 I’m 5’11 and right in between medium and large just what you prefer and i ride medium!
So sick 🌷
27s all the way! Fun is no.1 🤟 good video
is that your house and allll your bikes at the start ahah
For my riding style and the terrain I'm used to, I prefer the 29er.
That's what matters riding style and terrain. I hate the way a 29er rides, LOL
@@georgeandrew1143 All my friends use 29ers, one of my friends go a 27.5. We always have to stop and wait for him because they roll slower. The other problem is if he gets a flat, no one will be around to lend him a spare inner tube.
I can definitely see a difference in handling between the two. The 29er is the less obedient out of the two.
what's your helmet?
hello bernard, can you tell me what are your kneepads please ? riding videos are the best in these times 🤘🤘
Fly racing ones!
Which frame guards are u using?
Smike dyed bro
y do u start left foot forward when u ride right forward?
levi mcosland so my second pedal stroke which is a full one is more powerful
What hubs are they using!? Those sound nutty
I9 Hydra
What’s James Stewart’s bike doing there?
brokenlegz video next week and you’ll see...
Hey Bernard which hubs do you run on the switchblade??
Marko Balle industry 9
Thanks🤙🏻 Which exactly?
@@markoballe2515 Hydra.
What about a bunny hop video? 29vs27.5 I’ve wonder which one would win
what grips do you run?
will pope dmr death grips
Probably the best garage ever
test 29 v 27.5 firebird and pheonix
We want to see 26 VS 29 !!!!
Its coming!
You should've done 3 consecutive runs on each so you got more used to each wheel size, and prob faster by the 3rd run. Must be harder to switch back and forth.
Thats alot of damn bikes im in envy i had the one my beloved marin hawk hill 3 and it was stolen i miss riding 😟
Lee S damnn that sucks
@@cadesketchking9447 tell me about it £2k - 2.5k just gone plus the upgrades i did to it. Im lost without my bike. I cant afford to replace it
Can you afford to save a few dollars a pay check to save up for a new one?
@@Willb00g i wish im struggling as it is i felt my bike was my escape de stress and all that
@@Lees_Media I had both my XC and DH bikes stolen from my garage a few years ago after saving up for months/years to get em. After that I realised the relatively small monthly payments, in comparison to the cost of the bikes to insure them, hurts less than knowing some little scrote is wheelieing through traffic and selling weed on a bike that can eat up a WC track. Always worth going back to the bike shop you got your bike from , explaining the situation and seeing if the techs have any cheap xc bikes they're willing to sell on the cheap to get you through lockdown.
The firebirds PLEASE
What kind of hubs do u run?
Eli Husovich they’re industry 9 hydras
Industry 9
Hey Bernard,
Any chance you could tell me what your switchblade weighs?
T.j. Bennett I’ll try get some scales!
Most videos comparing 29 vs 27.5 feature highly skilled riders or even a pro. What I would like to see is WHICH one is more fun to ride for a BEGINNER and an INTERMEDIATE level riders
smaller bike is always more fun.
Nur your Downhill bike is xl or?
Just large!
Bernard Kerr Oh, I thought that pinkbike or another bike magazine said that your bike at Redbull Hardline was a XL. Sorry! Love your Videos!
Run the eeeb down it see how much quicker/slower it is 👍🏻
This needs to happen and will, great idea!
curious from a pro's perspective whether the mullet is the best of both worlds or just a gimmick.
The one thing better than a switchblade is a firebird and a Phoenix cause they are 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Your name wouldn't be Bernard Kerr by any chance would it?
SOO MUCH PRODUCT!!!
holy smokes there must be 100k worth of bikes there
Build a big jump in the woods!
Now you have to do it on a mullet bike
29 front 27.5 rear, end of the discussion
I'm 6 foot 2, and ride a XL bike with 27.5 wheels. And I think the 27.5 suits me more.
A pivot Large would be the size for you...
@@bernard_kerr thanks I have a large hard tail and a XL full suspension. And your right maybe a Large would of been better for me. And I havent had any problems hitting big jumps on a XL bike though.
I’m 6foot 2 and I ride a large trek remedy I do downhill racing and I don’t think wheel size is gonna make you loose a race
@@willbennett7107 I'm do free riding and down hill with 180mm on the front and 175mm on the back. And the wheel size I thinks some mullet bikes with a 29 front wheel are ok. aswell.
Hello FLY Bernard and Sam.It would still take a combination of front wheel 19 and rear 17.5.I see your art, work aside,a great danger.Let him avoid you.Holiday makers from Česko
