This one's a no-brainer. The TX feels like Lexus rushed it out just to get out their 3-row. The interior is just not special while the exterior didn't go far at all distinguishing it from the GHL. It just has a cheapness look to it. On the other hand, the Palisade since it came out looks more expensive than it actually is. None of the major Hyundai recalls have affected the Palisade and the engine has been problem free though it could use better fuel efficiency. If you're getting the Palisade, especially in Calligraphy, go for the beige interior with the navy blue trim. It looks and feels way more expensive than the 53K suggested price and wouldn't look out of place among vehicles costing 10 to 20K more. No surprise they're (and Telluride) still selling strong going to 6 years, and with an all-new Palisade coming likely early 2025, you can probably get some good deals on the outgoing model.
The TX does feel rushed, but it makes no sense how it could have been, considering dealers and consumers have been asking Lexus for a non-truck-based 3 row SUV for 20 years now. 10 years ago it was downright laughable that they still didn't have one. The RX L that came out felt like the rushed band-aid to fix their embarrassing oversight.. but then 7-8 years later their "real" answer still feels rushed.
@@danguelph2676 That's true but at the same time your comment cements where we are as far as manufacturers downsizing their engines in the name of efficiency. They may be smaller thus more efficient but that means a rougher drivetrain especially since manufacturers have to make them more complicated in an effort to fulfill customer demands who now want everything in their family hauler while also meeting government emissions restrictions. Midsize SUVs used to have V8s not that long ago. Minivans previously V6 powered are now following suit with smaller engines too. The next Palisade will have two turbocharged offerings; a V6 and a 2.5T hybrid.
The TX is Lexus at its laziest. So obviously a rebadged Grand Highlander and a very sparse-looking interior. Just so disappointing. On the other hand, Hyundai's non-stop recalls are worrying. I'd take a well-equipped Grand Highlander over both.
I knew the tx would be DOA before it was unveiled. That’s exactly what we got. I’d take a palisade or telluride before a tx or grand highlander as both the Toyota and Lexus are subpar. Theyre the Mitsubishi mirage of 3 rows and to an extent the two brands are the Mitsubishi mirage of the automotive industry: making new products that exist but with no real purpose since they don’t do anything well
Hyundai's palisade I think only has one or two. The engine used by the palisade has proven to be extremely reliable as it's been in use for more than 15 years
@c0348whn Hyundai only get more recalls this year due to getting their cars thefts under control. Last year their weren't many recalls for them now NHTSA just want more reasons to make HKG look unreliable with all of these random recalls they have.
As someone who used to work at Hyundai and now work at Lexus I can vouch that when it comes for the pic the palisade is better. Been driving the TX for a bit and feeling kind of disappointed
Bought a 2022 Palisade Limited AWD 2yrs2mo ago, and it's been great. The only issue was a bad 12v battery which the dealer replaced within a single day, but beyond that nothing else has gone wrong.
I'm old enough to remember a Hyundai Veracruz beating a Lexus RX 350 in a similar type comparison on edmunds insideline in 2007. Those Veracruz's are now in the junk yard while the RX 350 still sells for $10k- $15k with a ton of miles. This will be a similar story.
Based on the IIHS test ratings alone, I'd get the Hyundai. That TX is not safe! That said, I wouldn't buy either of them. Done with combustion engines so I'd get an EV9 or the upcoming Ioniq 7...while Toyota/Lexus keeps falling behind.
@@Wasabi9111 Most vehicles in this class don't have the greatest third row leg room. Honestly, minivans provide the best third row experience...but no one considers them! Ha! 24 Palisade Calligraphy owner. I am very impressed. My only issue was the Hankook factory tires. They were loud and bad in snow. Switched to Michelin CrossClimate 2s, very pleased with the performance and how quiet it is.
I'd have the Palisade Calligraphy. It seems they borrowed more from the Genesis line for this vehicle. I liked it, so we'll, that I traded my Cadillac XT5 Premium Luxury for a Calligraphy in Hyper White and at 54k, couldn't be happier
I’ve never been a Lexus TX fan. I just feel Lexus phoned it in to get a luxury 3 row SUV out there and they figured the grand highlander is a good base to build off of. The Lexus TX just doesn’t feel special or nice inside at all, it looks very generic on the outside, and has no differentiation from the grand highlander sibling. I’ll take palisade over either any day of the week unless reliability is your end-all, be-all. Even then, the grand highlander has had transmission issues reported by owners, and that turbo 4 might not hold up long term compared to the Hyundai V6 engines.
I’ve recently picked up the Palisade Calligraphy and I’m really happy with the car. I was considering this exact match up, the Lexus TX and the Palisade. It was a no brainer once I’ve tested both cars. It was 13k difference (with 7% off MRSP) and honestly, as review mentions you’d expect a lot more from the Lexus.
We have a moderately loaded Palisade as an undercover vehicle. The pros? Well for starters, bad guys never know when we're watching them lol. Also it has room for the whole team and lots of pick up. The cons? The third row seat broke almost immediately. You can tell the quality is really only skin deeb in some places. Also, the transmission is a torque converter but somehow still feels like a 15 year old driving a manual transmission. It's overall a cool crossover SUV and a lot more stealthier than the black Dodge Charger we used to have!
I have a 2019 Audi Q7 Prestige that I bought a year ago pre-owned and currently have 63,000 miles on it. I'm worried about the reliability and maintenance costs long-term. I'm considering trading it in for a new palisade Calligraphy night edition. What that be a smart move?
If the budget is tight id feel no Shame getting the Hyundai. People need to realize their quality is not like 20 years ago but if i could go the extra 10 grand that'd also be a no brainer for me. Personally, I just prefer Toyota/Lexus in terms of my perceived quality.. Also i see your shirt. Do it and get back to me.
I have a 2017 Lexus rx350 I'm 6'2" and sit in it just fine. But I do bang my head on the raised tailgate. Raised it....but would hit the garage door if I opened it in the garage if not careful. I'll spend the extra $$$$ because I know I'm going to have more miles on it before it starts falling apart. There's the $$$$$$ guys.....
I like this review a lot, but it would have been better without the rant at 3:26 about your viewers. Commenters have been begging for years for reviewers like Edmunds to take reliability into account instead of just glossing over it, nobody wants to spend $55,000 on a new car that might set your house on fire.
But let’s be real….the low end Lexus should still be way ahead of a Hyundai, period. A Vehicle whose base model starts where te Hyundai high end tapers off. To be honest…we shouldn’t even be comparing a Lexus to a Hyundai. The fact that we are says something’s bad wrong. And I’m not hating. I actually bought a luxury TX, and have come to really like it, as I’m a Toyota fan for the last 30 years. But still, I truly feel cheated.
The Tx is so expensive in Canada. The top trip is around $98K while that of palisade is about $68k. Both with taxes included. Okay i was like let me try out the top trim grand highlander wihich is about $78k taxes included. I was told that there's a 2- 3 years waitlist, and they have stopped taking orders. I will just wait and try again for the 2025 palisade and 2025 grandhighlander.
After test driving the Cadillac XT6 and the TX the Cadillac made the TX feel like a Kia. The V6 and transmission in the Cadillac are smooth and has almost a similar reliable score from CR and has won JD power. This Lexus is just a rebadged Toyota as is the Cadillac with Chevy but at least Cadillac didn’t make it noticeable at all.
Me and my wife are currently comparing these 2 vehicles. I think the part that this video misses is how dominate the palisades is feature wise over not just the entry trim of the lexus, but the top trim as well. The only 2 things the lexus has over the Hyundai is drive train options, and length. The Hyundai has over the top trim lexus $78k. Massaging driver seat. Intercom system, heated 3rd row seats were the 3 major wins of Hyundai. On a car that's almost $25k less. If you're looking for a vehicle this size and your price range is up to $80k, the calligraphy is still the best family hauler across the board. That is unless you don't like the drive train numbers. But my wife doesn't care about those things.
I spent a LONG time researching 3 row SUV’s before I finally bought my Palisade (Ultimate Calligraphy Edition). I swear people are impressed by it and ask me all the time, “How do you like it?” I almost always respond: “I would buy it again.”
Also when I was looking in Vegas Sept. 2022 my Palisade ended up 20grand cheaper then Lexus and Toyota with 10 year full bumper to bumper warranty.. Even has warranty for heat damage from Vegas Sun and had the desert package .
Im 6'5" and the RX is not too small unless you want to carry people.. I dont so its perfect for my wife and I... Also its quick and nimble around town much more so than a TX or a Palisade which is huge....... if you want to bigger buy a GV80. I would take the GV80 over the TX.. I looked at a TX and I thought my RX was nicer actually.. .. Its very similar but something about the seats were different.. Also I have the RX500h.. my neighbor has a palisade 3 doors down from me, and they love it.. hyundai and genesis have come up huge in overall quality and value for your dollar.. I would never buy the RX350, 4 cyl now and premium gas with less HP than the last gen??? No way... I wanted some HP........ Now after having my RX for a year now I can honestly say it is very smooth, very quiet, not one rattle, not one creak anywhere... Overall Im super happy with it...... if I wanted bigger I would buy a GV80 over the palisade.. TX doesnt interest me in this category.
Just like everything else. When a company made it so large with its initial winning philosophy and reason, only matter of time that goes out of the door. The pursuit of profitability is the only goal and thus lost your way in time and identity.
Neither of these would fit in my garage. People don’t think about that! The palisades mirrors stick out and don’t power fold. They are a whopping 96” from mirror tip to tip. My current vehicle is 86”. 😮
Given the blandness of the Lexus, the lack of a special feel and, Hyundai's notorious reliability problems I would go with a certified pre owned 2018-2020 GLS with under 35,000 miles.
My opinion...give me the Palisade. $10K for a less premium feeling vehicle isn't worth it. Vehicles are becoming vastly more expensive, and so I want the most for my money.
Yea you’re just thinking features and surface stuff. What about build quality, real materials, engineering, reliability. It’s so much more for the money than surface qualities.
I really can’t believe how biased you are towards the Palisades. I just purchased a Lexus TX and can’t believe how amazing this vehicle is. Quality of materials, ride quality and gas mileage, which isn’t bad for a vehicle weighting little over 4,600 lbs. That being said I rented a 2024 Palisades while on vacation and it was decent at best, not nearly as good as my TX. You stated that the Palisades has better ride quality?..no way. With the Palisades I felt every single bump unlike my LX that is totally silent at any speed. Maybe next time you can get serious and post an unbiased review!!!!
I cross shopped these two vehicles and the Lexus was easily the nicer of the two. I wouldn't blame someone on a budget for choosing the palisade, but to pretend like it's better than the Lexus is ridiculous.
You can literally do this for any luxury comparison. BMW, Mercedes etc, can you justify the higher prices of any? I don’t know why most auto channels dislike Lexus so much and always use them as a comparison. They need to get over their bias’s and just know what Lexus is and understand they don’t use the latest and greatest and aren’t trying to be something they aren’t, they are an established brand and understand what we Americans want. Edmunds of all channels should figure out why people buy Lexus and not make videos to persuade people to buy other brands, Toyota/lexus speak for themselves. Stop hating on them, people will stop watching your channel. We all know why we buy them, their sales speak for themselves. Your’e only hurting your channel by talking negative about their quality and engines etc.
I used to be a big Toyota and Lexus fan. But over the years, they’re no longer class leading in any area besides reliability. Esp Lexus, the interiors are cheap, they’re no longer have quiet comfy ride.

No. Even if you're in the camp that believes the Lexus is more reliable, the Hyundais longer warranty would offset the difference. Even after the 10 years, there shouldn't be a 10k difference in maintenance/ repairs.

Lexus is marketed as a “luxury” vehicle, whereas Hyundai is not. Still you get a lot more with the latter for less money. Is there really a comparison between the two?
I've said it a million times. Lexus is just a Toyota in a dress. It's not special anymore. Lexus is a premium, not a luxury brand. Give me a BMW, MB, Audi, or Volvo any day
The Lexus TX qualifies for a Section 179 tax deduction, it is over 6000 pounds. The Palisade is under 4,500 pounds. They are not comparable vehicles. The luxury trim is nice. The base is not worth it.
Nonsense . in 5 years the Hyundai will be worth around 27k the lexsus will be around 40k. Cars depreciat between 40-50% in the first 5 years. The only thing is you will get better service with Lexus.
@naveenthemachine that wasn't the question. No one said it wasn't. Stay with me here. It's which machine is better. Not which warranty. You really want to deal with a warranty?? Please.... it's longer for a reason
Hyundai and Kia vehicles have a ton of features and look great, but below the external appearance is shitty build quality and fit & finish. I had a 2022 Sorento that had the strangest quality control issues; like nothing I've ever experienced with any other brand.
Honestly wouldn't buy either. The Palisade is starting to feel dated, and the multiple Hyundai recalls are a huge red flag. The TX is too expensive for what you're getting, and there are plenty of cheaper Toyota/Lexus products that have proven reliability and offer the same features. If someone keeps their cars for 10 years or more, the TX is a no-brainer, and it will hold its value better. Kia/Hyundai reliability had really improved in the mid-2010s compared to its history, but then they sabotaged their own reputation in the last 10 years with recalls and not installing theft-deterrents.
Palisade even as you mention it's Korean, and that is a thing needs to be corrected, the Korean are doing better cars. The Palisade is a better case than the Lexus on this video. Lexus is a cheap car for the price. With Lexus you just buy a metal box with seats.
This is a joke, right? Both of these cars were not designed for performance and ripping through racetracks, and the consumers who are considering to buy one don't care either.
@@theburnoutshot2669 it is not a joke, the joke is compare a car with a V6 with another one in a 4 cylinders. Also the one with the 4 cylinders is 10k more expensive, just because it Lexus and a lot of brand fans believe it will last forever. The people with the money can buy a car for any reason but in my case I won't pay 60k for a car than another one less expensive can overtake me with no effort .
you gotta realize that some people will sell these Hyundais before the 100k (10-year) mark. A neighbor of mine has a 2018 Hyundai Sante Fe with only 75k miles on it, and he is considering replacing it with an Audi. So, they don't really care about reliability.
@@Threxx and the rxl might've had a nicer interior more wood and chrome

That's true but at the same time your comment cements where we are as far as manufacturers downsizing their engines in the name of efficiency.
My dad loves his '23 Palisade XRT. Very quiet and comfortable. Multiple round trips to NYC and Virginia and it's no problem.
Theyre the Mitsubishi mirage of 3 rows and to an extent the two brands are the Mitsubishi mirage of the automotive industry: making new products that exist but with no real purpose since they don’t do anything well
worry about toyota engine recalls dude.
Hyundai's palisade I think only has one or two. The engine used by the palisade has proven to be extremely reliable as it's been in use for more than 15 years
Well said but no recalls on the palisade pretty reliable v6 been around for ages
The only issue was a bad 12v battery which the dealer replaced within a single day, but beyond that nothing else has gone wrong.
how many miles?
Palisade for me, $10K saved in bank
I'm old enough to remember a Hyundai Veracruz beating a Lexus RX 350 in a similar type comparison on edmunds insideline in 2007. Those Veracruz's are now in the junk yard while the RX 350 still sells for $10k- $15k with a ton of miles. This will be a similar story.
I am in the detailing Car and trust me Lexus age well compare to any other brand.
Based on the IIHS test ratings alone, I'd get the Hyundai. That TX is not safe! That said, I wouldn't buy either of them. Done with combustion engines so I'd get an EV9 or the upcoming Ioniq 7...while Toyota/Lexus keeps falling behind.
Totally agree.
Also, the 4 cyl is so loud and unrefined for a luxury car.
Just wished the ev9 had more usable 3rd row legroom.
@@Wasabi9111 Most vehicles in this class don't have the greatest third row leg room. Honestly, minivans provide the best third row experience...but no one considers them! Ha! That would cost you 80K, and still doesn't feel special sitting inside compared to others in its class.

I'II will always go with the Lexus
Another brainwashed brand snob.
If you get a santa fe, get the hybrid and call it a day.
I’ll take the Hyundai and wow everyone with it’s looks and interior

I like this review a lot, but it would have been better without the rant at 3:26 about your viewers. Commenters have been begging for years for reviewers like Edmunds to take reliability into account instead of just glossing over it, nobody wants to spend $55,000 on a new car that might set your house on fire.
So he did the lowest end TX vs the highest end Hyundai not the Grand Highlander. It's kind of a joke review.
That was the highest end Luxury trim of the TX. It wasn't the lowest end TX
I own a palisade, driving this car is completely comfortable.
I mean the Pallisade is midsize while the TX is fullsize so idk if this comparison is entirely fair
The Tx is 6000 pounds vs 4500
I would take Palisade hands down, unless I ponied up for the much more expensive hybrids.
I spent a LONG time researching 3 row SUV’s before I finally bought my Palisade (Ultimate Calligraphy Edition). I swear people are impressed by it and ask me all the time, “How do you like it?” I almost always respond: “I would buy it again.”
does the Palisade really not have wireless Apple CarPlay??
the way i see it , Hyundai is better
Couldn't pay me to drive a hyundai ever again, specially those glass lambda v6 engines
Ask this same question after 5 years ownership. Guarantee the answer is Lexus when these two are lived with for five+ years.

Those seats in the Kia Telluride are a little warm though
This video is not talking about Telluride
