Hi! I am a NIFTian working with Myntra. I don’t recommend doing Fashion design unless you come from a well off financial background. Job opportunities are very less, salary is extremely low as compared to other fields and growth is very slow in terms of money. Go into any field that is related to Technology. Design combined with technology is the future. The golden years of fashion design are over. People with lots of money are able to succeed in this field.

Learn Adobe illustrator and how to make garment specification(techpack) with all technical details and terminologies if you want to work on export or retail segment. Fashion illustration with croquis are more useful if you're working under a designing house.

If you're lazy, an expert in procrastination and just sit there with out creativity & imagination then this is not for you. If you're passionate about it and you can risk all your efforts for your passion then you can go for it!!That's all! I recently completed a five year degree in Architecture and Design. Both of these fileds are quite similar actually. You have your own challenges all through your college years and after. You need to put a lot of effort and sometimes a lil bit extra. But at the end of the day you'll feel delighted for not sacrificing your passion and taking up something that requires less efforts!

I am a fashion designer now doing masters in it, n my sister is also fashion designer nift pass out.. the way she is talking in this video is really degrading. This is a career option and ur own choice. So obviously there is hard work. Fashion designing is a skill based career so you need constant practice and advancement of ur skills. College is not an issue in this time and age as there are so many ways to portray your talents and make a living. A nift graduate might be doing an average salary job while a non graduate person run his/her own boutique/company. Qualification in fashion designing is absolutely necessary ONLY if you want a great life in corporate world. Or else there are great self proclaimed fashion designers who earned their place by showcasing their creativity and capitalizing on it. Getting a job in fashion designing is going to be just as any other stream. If u r not from top college other person will be preferred over you. But at the same time if your portfolio is killer company will surely prefer you. For salary every one HAS TO start from somewhere..and ony by hustling you can raise urself. So these are not the reasons to chicken out for wanting to get into fashion. The real struggle is completing the loads of work that you get in college in time, fast and better than everyone else. As it's designing you'll have to draw, plan, create, stitch, write, present, learn softwares, perform. The struggle is balancing your skills, laziness, enjoyment, competition and speed. Trust me you can do anything in life only if you want to. Don't consider this stream if you are not interested in creation as that's all this degree is about. But there is a great scope In this industry. N about it being costly..all undergraduate n graduate degrees are costly, but in fashion designing you even have short term courses as well as colleges that have low cost fee structures too.. so don't worry you can find your fit, work on it and achieve ur goals.

And i also selected for pearl academy but as per she said they demand huge amount of fee, everyone didn't get that... I came across this video before making the decision to genuinely take admission in fashion designing and you must think I listened to her, Nope! I ended up wasting my 3 years on a course where the college made marksheets on if i am deserving or capable of becoming a fashion designer by how fast i can finish the assignments, skill and talent did not matter, only speed did. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU MAKE A BIG MISTAKE LIKE I DID. You don't need a fancy degree to tell you can make it or are capavle of being a fashion designer, you can start your own thing without any of those. Look at nancy tyagi

Ya it's expensive but there are many government college to make carrier. and in government college placement also there, and for carrier opeation get experience first 6 to 7 month in any clothing industry and the start your business if you believe your self then you definitely successful.

Try to assist designer as intern , slowly you will grow.. I too did graduation in fashion design but student with diploma are also working also many are working with just experience of years .there are many branches in designing from fashion design , costume design , styling , textile design , footwear design , product design etc.. if you want do automobile designing then recommend to do it from any good institute

It's good it's really good, I'm from soft (school of fashion technology) which is under sndt University, it's not very costly but yes they gives quality education.

As a NIFT alumni, I spent around 12-15lacs and I have seen people suffer with jobs too... I think the problem is quality of the designers.

This is a career option and ur own choice. So obviously there is hard work.
Fashion designing is a skill based career so you need constant practice and advancement of ur skills.
College is not an issue in this time and age as there are so many ways to portray your talents and make a living.
A nift graduate might be doing an average salary job while a non graduate person run his/her own boutique/company.
Qualification in fashion designing is absolutely necessary ONLY if you want a great life in corporate world. Or else there are great self proclaimed fashion designers who earned their place by showcasing their creativity and capitalizing on it.
Getting a job in fashion designing is going to be just as any other stream. If u r not from top college other person will be preferred over you. But at the same time if your portfolio is killer company will surely prefer you.
For salary every one HAS TO start from somewhere..and ony by hustling you can raise urself.
So these are not the reasons to chicken out for wanting to get into fashion.
The real struggle is completing the loads of work that you get in college in time, fast and better than everyone else. As it's designing you'll have to draw, plan, create, stitch, write, present, learn softwares, perform. The struggle is balancing your skills, laziness, enjoyment, competition and speed.
Trust me you can do anything in life only if you want to. Don't consider this stream if you are not interested in creation as that's all this degree is about. But there is a great scope In this industry.
N about it being costly..all undergraduate n graduate degrees are costly, but in fashion designing you even have short term courses as well as colleges that have low cost fee structures too.. so don't worry you can find your fit, work on it and achieve ur goals.

It's soo true... I also want to became a fashion designer but i failed in nift exam (3 marks) in the first stage... And i also selected for pearl academy but as per she said they demand huge amount of fee, everyone didn't get that... And other colleges haven't that much placements and expensive as compare to nift colleges... It's my dream from 5 class i want to do that but at last I failed to do it.. And currently I am doing ba bed

I came across this video before making the decision to genuinely take admission in fashion designing and you must think I listened to her, Nope! I ended up wasting my 3 years on a course where the college made marksheets on if i am deserving or capable of becoming a fashion designer by how fast i can finish the assignments, skill and talent did not matter, only speed did. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU MAKE A BIG MISTAKE LIKE I DID. You don't need a fancy degree to tell you can make it or are capavle of being a fashion designer, you can start your own thing without any of those. Look at nancy tyagi

Ya it's expensive but there are many government college to make carrier. and in government college placement also there, and for carrier opeation get experience first 6 to 7 month in any clothing industry and the start your business if you believe your self then you definitely successful.

True.. Manish Malhotra ya Rocky S ya Abu Jani ya Sabyasachi NIFT , pearl ya JD se nhi the.. Experience counts agar kahin nhi pade to bhi designer ban jaoge just need experience and knowledge. Try to assist designer as intern , slowly you will grow.. I too did graduation in fashion design but student with diploma are also working also many are working with just experience of years .there are many branches in designing from fashion design , costume design , styling , textile design , footwear design , product design etc.. if you want do automobile designing then recommend to do it from any good institute
