1. That creature looks like a Digimon only because the Digimon in question looks like it. It is the Kitsune (9-tailed fox), and the Digimon Renamon is based off of the concept of the Kitsune. Complaining that Renamon and the Kitsune from Yo-kai Watch look similar is like complaining that Walkappa and Kapp'n from Animal Crossing look similar; they're both based on the Kappa, of course they will look similar. 2. Those aren't pokeballs. They aren't meant to look like pokeballs; they are meant to look like gashapon capsules, because they are, and pokeballs are based on gashapon capsules. 3. As you have probably gathered from points 2 and 3, this game is very japanese; that also applies to the root cause of the fight between the protagonist's parents, as there are yo-kai in japanese lore/mythology that are supposed to be the cause of such things, and many more. 4. Tattletell is a yo-kai, which (in Japan) is a type of corrupted spirit that tends to look like what it used to be, including human, but always with some different features. However, sometimes the changes aren't very pronounced; examples of common humanoid yo-kai have features like no face, a woman with snake-like neck, or a woman with a mouth on the back of their head, but there are plenty more, like rare humanoid yo-kai who's only identifiable feature is the fact that they are far too tall to be human. Heck, the last one comes in two varieties, elongated like Slenderman tall and towering over buildings tall, but despite what features humanoid yo-kai have, they always have the ability to disguise themselves as a normal human. Point is, having a yo-kai in the game look like an old lady isn't "lazy", since there are yo-kai in Japanese lore/mythology that are just that. I think this might not have been the best game for you to review since some of your complaints are based in, and please do not take this the wrong way, cultural ignorance for lack of a better term (to my knowledge). Except for the quest notifications, battle system, and theme song, those are legitimate criticisms.
***** Except, when you think about it, it did. That was what the theme song was for. Annoying or not, it literally said what they were and what they did.
***** 1. The way he phrased it and the tone of voice he used made it sound like a criticism (to me anyway). 2. Except that's the point of the game: the yo-kai in the game are literally supposed to be the yokai of lore. They are supposed to be copied and pasted because otherwise yo-kai wouldn't be yokai, but something else. Just wait until the third game to see how "creative" they can get. And Actually there are yokai in lore that are "pallet swaps": bakeneko and nekomata, nuppeppo and hyakume, and there are plenty of more examples of "pallet swapped" yokai in Japanese myth.
***** But that's because those are Pokemon; they exist in their own universe and have their own lore. Yokai exist in this one (at least that is what many people in Japan believe), so really you can't change much if anything without making the yo-kai, well, something other than the yokai they are supposed to be.
+MadDemon64 So Jimmy's nitpicks are not valid. Except they totally are because the designs are uninspired and terrible. That keychain pokémon is based on a legend, just like yokais. You don't see him running around as a humanoid fairy carrying keys around.
Ok we need to clear the air here. Pokémon doesn't own the idea of collecting creatures. That's called bug catching. Which is what Pokémon was based off of. Yo Kai watch is nothing like Pokémon unless you're on a warpath to compare as many tiny details you can find. Also here's a tip if you don't like the slower fights. HIT X! So I get you're on a warpath to try to bring this game down and try to get everyone to hate it because-well IGN did it first! But honestly you really don't need to do this. If you wanted to review the game here's a sidenote: Don't be a biased fanboy or nobody will take you seriously! Which I guess is what happened.
What irks me is that you judge the battle system by the first fight, that'd be like calling Pokemon's battles boring because the first fight is two Lv 5 starters hitting each other with Tackle until one faints.
Jaden Priestley An opinion doesn't equal a valid criticism. It'd be a different story had he actually finished the game first, but given the circumstances, he was probably just looking for more reasons to hate on the game since he didn't have any actual criticisms to bring up. Also, your grammar is horrible, but that's just my opinion... Oh wait, it's a fact.
Mernarak doesn't change the fact it's shit only reason why pussies would like this shit is cause they know how much they suck on Pokémon plus just cause shit it's different doesn't mean it's good lol
Owain Kun actually I was a good competitive battler in oras and I like yokai watch you can't call a game a rip off when with that logic Pokémon is a rip off of Shin magami tensei the logic just doesn't make sense
KomashuraGaming it's a lowkey ripoff having 2 games recently them super close too one another then a third one also gets made ohh doesn't that sound familiar lol only problem it's just when it comes too the battle system it's shallower, boring and just super repetitive and not really creative unlike Pokémon that's why it's doing soo bad now your just too blinded by your biased boner to ever realize that
So what you're saying is that you think it's a ripoff because it's a game of the monster raising RPG genre (Which Pokemon did NOT invent), that the battle system is boring (Without looking deeper into it) and that the designs and inspirations of the Yo-Kai are lackluster (Without actually looking into these inspirations) ... GG
I've been playing pokémon since red and loved them so much until pearl, then I started to just enjoy them, Yo-kai watch is nothing like pokémon, I started playing it and became addicted, it's silly, fun and simple, but still complicated and really cool, you can't judge something you played for less than half the game... Nitro Rad's counter argument feels way more professional than this video.
Yo-kai Watch is awesome, silly and playful. Not a ripoff. Lots of people are saying this review is very ignorant. I wish Jimmy would give the franchise a second chance with Yo-Kai Watch 2 coming out and repair the misplaced label of being terrible.
Also yokai watch 2 on sale when it comes out is 9.30, pokemon cost way more than yokai watch, the definition of rip off is something that is higher than the original
Swiggity Swooty Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Splatoon are all shooter games, so I guess if I've played one, I've played them all. No point in buying other shooter games. They're all rip-offs of each other anyway. Thanks for helping me get real. .~ [sarcasm]
Same genre does not mean a rip-off. Not every shooter has the same gameplay mechanic. It's like calling Super Metroid a Mario rip-off because they're both platformers. Yo-Kai Watch has Pokemon written all over it. Catch a wild creature. Put it against another wild creature to learn EXP and take out other trainers. And it's not even a genre.
Swiggity Swooty There are no trainers there. It's befriending monsters. To compare it to pokemon. You don't always have to use your yokai on battles. There are quests, bike races, and gambling. It has some stuff that pokemon doesn't. Cheap reviving. Healing to another yokai. Don't attack me for that. But game has it's flaws.
I am a pokefan and caught em all since blue. This isnt a ripoff. It feels more like SMT. You are basically an exorcist here trying to save your town from rogue demons. I praise it for bringing something new to the table as a JRPG. Pokemon felt like a chore and my love for the series kinda dwindled after HeartGold and SoulSilver.
MegaSpideyman Shin Megami Tensei is a M rated RPG series developed by Atlus. The Persona series (if you know what that is) is a subseries of SMT. Like the other Mon games you capture and summon monsters to use in combat, except you join the demonic abominations to attack the deities and devils that are in your way.
My issue was the lack of research that went into the video as well as complain about how it's a Pokémon rip-off then instead of explaining why he felt that way he just spent the whole time whinning about how it was so different than Pokémon.
+Wanted Wolf Seeing as how Jimmy didn't even have a full team and couldn't figure out what a Gachapon machine, Kitsune and other Japanese centric things are in a Japanese lore infested game, this is the equivalent of making a review of Pokemon and giving up before the first badge. Might just be me but I see it as some Pokemon die-hard who went in thinking it was a ripoff and just wanted to make a rant video while also looking professional. If he actually played the game he's reviewing he'd have a valid argument against it, like the use of recolors or lack of Villain build up.
"Yokai Watch is a Pokémon ripoff" I'm gonna stop ya right there, Jimbo. As someone who's been playing Pokémon since it came out in 1998 when I was 9... No, it really isn't like Pokémon at all. The only thing they have in common is collecting monsters that can sometimes change form, and that's about it. In my opinion, Yokai Watch is closer to Digimon World, given that you don't have direct control over your monsters. Even then, it's different. Except for Renamon/Kyuubi (though, according to Japanese folklore, foxes are said to change fur colors to gold or silver when they gain their ninth tail, so... it's more likely that they were both influenced by this). I can understand your complaints about the battle system. It IS a little boring in the beginning... but once the battles get harder? You'll be constantly monitoring your team, switching out yokai who have been inspirited to purify them, using items, targeting enemies, etc. etc. Not to mention revealing and targeting weak points on the bosses. Each yokai's personality affects what it does the most in battle, and these traits can be changed by using books on them. Caring yokai will heal their comrades. Grouchy yokai prefer physical attacks. Helpful yokai will do positive inspirits on their teammates. Each yokai is a member of one of 8 tribes, and if you put two or more yokai from the same tribe next to each other, they'll get a bonus; for instance putting yokai from the Charming tribe next to each other gives them a bonus to speed. Befriending Yokai is tough, but it's much easier if you toss 'em their favorite food. I think your inner Pokémon fan may have clouded your visiob while you were playing-- you thought it was going to be like Pokémon, and so you judged it as if it were. I'm not sure that's doing it justice, because it isn't Pokémon. The theme song does suck MAJOR ass, though, holy shit. My friend who got me into the game thinks it's good, but I cringe every time I have to listen to it-- which is almost never since I usually skip the intro. They should have just left in Geragera-po. Pokémon still has the best theme song though. Also, Yokai Watch has Komasan. Komasan is adorable. That is all.
personally I don't think it's a pokemon rip off the things I hate are the fact you don't control the F***ING YOKAI and that sometimes they are lazy enough to not even fight!
One thing that really annoys me is how people usually say any monster collecting game is just a Pokemon rip-off. There are many things that make yokai watch different from Pokemon like the battle mechanics and play style. Although the battle system did get repetitive at times, it has the potential to improve. Sorry if I sound angry since I just get triggered when someone says that.
MC_ Sea it’s funny because the only major similarities the two game is that your a young kid going around catching monsters. And in yokai watch it’s so much more complex than that lmao
Yo-Kai Watch is fucking massive in Japan. When I went there like a year ago, this shit was EVERYWHERE. Like, I couldn't walk around a corner without seeing something about it.
From what I know about modern Japanese culture, every millennial there is like a hipster but only with shit things, and they don't get over it until after like 5 years.
Nick Vessel Well there are somethings that hipsters like or do that is cool, like listening to vinyl. Sure its out dated and hard to find, and people who always claim its better than the modern medium is annoying, but listening to vinyl is a fun experience. While in Japan they go crazy over a few cute drawings over a cat for decades.
Bringer of dis pear first of all they don’t all come out of gashapon capsules second of all they aren’t monsters and finally your not collecting them your friending them
Yo- Kai Watch is original. Its not like getting the Pokemon's HP down then throwing an Ultra ball. That's boring. Whats fun is Throwing the Yo-Kai's favorite food, Then having a popularity Yo-Kai. And hoping it will be-friend you! The fights are better once you get through the tutorial. Say, Madiman. Or whatever he is called. You have to target the hearts so he doesn't heal. And more of the boss Yo-Kai or just higher rank Yo-Kai are fun to battle! Its not a turn by turn based system. I know there is strategy to Pokemon but Yo-Kai Watch battles are just WAY better. Call it what you want, but there is a fan-base. Give Yo-Kai Watch 2 a try, Its better then the first one.
Getting the pokemons health down is an amazing risk/reward system though. You have to make sure you don't use a type effective move and kill the thing, and it really tenses things up.
CrunchyApple From the demo, I thought Yo-Kai Watch 1 was incredibly bland and unfun, but when I played the demo for 2, I immediately went out and bought Bony Spirits, because that's how good it was.
I'm a Pokémon fan since I was 6 and what you are stating are really messy and wrong. You didn't do much research about the game and Japanese culture huh. Here I do it for you: -A yokai is Japanese mythology creatures that have existed in Japan for over hundreds and hundreds of years. Yo Kai watch's monster base only on that. That's why there's weird humanoid monster like tattletale and hungramp. While Pokémon have many inspiration, ranging from Japanese to Yokai to Greek mythology. Pokémon that base on yokai like Ninetails (Katsune), Meowstic (Nekomata), Lombre (Kappa), Linoone (Tanuki)... -That capsules you complain about is called gachapon. It's a machine that you put coins in and get keychains or figurine in a ball capsule. Each capsules give you different things depending on the machine. It's really popular in Japan and it's what Pokéball is base on. It's something that make you want to collect them all. -Pokémon battle system is a turn base rpg while Yokai watch is wheel turn base. You have 6 yokai. Put 3 up front for attack and if you want to switch you turn the wheel. Tho I can see why you dislike it, but you didn't even finish the same, so you didn't have the full experience and full understanding. -The catching bugs and fishes thing is not the main focus of the game. It's like saying planting barries and Pokémon contest is the main thing Pokémon is about. It only effect the story in a short period of time and whatever you do after that is your choice. -Just because a game base around collecting monster/things doesn't automatically mean it's a rip off. You don't see people going around saying final fantasy is a rip off of Zelda because it involve a young blond silent protagonist swordsman going on an adventure to save stuff. What make it different is the mechanics and story. Like Pokémon is turn base and Yokai watch is wheel base. And the way you get those monsters are different. Try researching more and give more valid points before making a video calling it a rip off. Or try finishing the game to know all the material clearer. Then you can stat why you dislike it with more solid arguments.
Okay, the "Black syrup" thing actually makes sense, it was just oddly translated. In the Japanese version, it translates tmore properly to "Super Black Honey", and it just like putting honey on trees in Pokemon to attract bug type Pokemon. It's a real technique used in bug catching
Contrary to popular belief, Yo-kai Watch's battles AREN'T just glorified cutscenes; there's actually strategy involved most of the time and it also requires player input (like, say, if your yokai gets inspirited, you have to put them in the back and purify them. And then there are the bosses). Plus, befriending a yokai isn't as easy as catching a Pokemon; For Pokemon, you have to weaken them and then throw a ball at them; with the yokai, you can toss their favorite food to increase the chances, but for the most part, you're HOPING that they want to friend you. Plus, it's not always obvious what food they like! Long story short, Yo-kai Watch is nowhere near a Pokemon rip-off (the only similarity is befriending monsters and having them fight) and it's possible to be a fan of both games...like I am! -_-
This is honestly a bad review, I mean I love Yo-kai Watch and pokémon, at the beginning, I didn't think this was a ripoff of Pokèmon. I give the game an 8/10, and this was the first video I disliked. Just because there's a monster hunting RPG, doesn't mean it's a Pokèmon ripoff.
Xenoblade is an action RPG, much more cinematic, so it can get away with some "auto-fights". Plus the special attack minigames seem to be more varied, and also there are special attacks. And it has a set cast and an equipment.
Remember kids, if you collect monsters in a game, it's a Pokémon rip-off. Final Fantasy XIII-2? Rip-off. Dragon Quest Monsters? Rip-off. Ni No Kuni? Rip-off. Monster Rancher? Rip-off. Every Shin Megami Tensei game? Fucking rip-off. Goddamn, if only there was still creativity left in the gaming world.
to the people who are crying about this video and saying that they are coming back years later just because of how much they hate it, please stop lmao. You’re just making our community look like it’s full of nothing but whiny man-babies who hold grudges for way too long. 💀
Pokemon = Making Living Creatures Fight Till They Almost Die Yo Kai Watch: Making Friends With Japanese Folklore And Trying To Save The World Sometimes. What Jimmy Sees Is A Pokemon Ripoff Which Is Really Just Any Children's Anime To Him.
Wow, Jimmy, sorry you didn't enjoy this one. I personally though it was/is a hell of a lot of fun, goofy as it is (which is personally a plus for me), and I'm still playing it every day, almost 100 hours in. Until The Pokemon Company gives us Gen VII, I will be more than happy to play Yo-Kai Watch, and I'll continue to hope that the sequels make it Stateside as well.
I agree. Opinions are really hard to use as a reference for how good something is. What if you missed out on an amazing movie because some nerd gave it a bad review for "lazy ideas"?
Shaza Shawa the problem with his opinion is it's reaching alot of people wondering if they should play this game or not his review gives the impression that it isn't worth giving a try
wow jimmy, this might be your worst review i've seen. i mean, you clearly don't know anything about Japan's culture or mythical creatures. i mean, no shit does Kyubi look like renamon, THEY ARE BASED OFF THE SAME THING!! and just because one looks like a butt should dismiss it! i mean, they cause mischief and embarrassment, what's more embarrassing than farting in a public area!? and you start off saying it's a pokemon clone, knowing full well it isn't and you being a pokemon fan yourself. even i'm a huge fan of pokemon, played since Silver, and even i knew going into this it was nothing like pokemon. and sure, i can't fully protect it from the fuss, the combat is abit slow at first and even befriending (yes, not catching!) is kind of a mix bag, but you know what! once you get stronger and fight harder bosses and yo-kai, you see it does get more interesting cause you have to give buffs, food for health and even help them out to attack all the foes on screen. i think it's fun when you pull off a soultimate. furthermore....i don't mind the theme opening. sure, it's just generic English songs to fill in the original so your not reading the opening, but come on, i've heard far worse openings from games and shows alike. and yes, it does say what Yo-kai is all about, but is that really a bad thing? to put it short and simple, this was a bad review, funny, but just bad. if you don't understand the simplest of Japan's myths, of course your gonna rip that one yo-kai looks like a pokemon or a digimon or hell, like an animal crossing character. but here's the thing: they're all based on the same thing! i'm sorry jimmy, it's just how i feel.
+crcoghill This isn't a review video, hence the lack of critical evaluation. "Review" isn't in the title, description, and is never said in the video. This is just a video on Yo-Kai Watch for fun.
***** me? ..... i guess i do type abit fast when i'm in the moment. i mean, i try to correct myself, but when i'm in my zone and forget the world around me, i...forget to double check my comments. though i think this is the first time someone says that really. oh well. my bad. and though i kind of knew that it wasn't a review, Jimmy pretty much does alot of review without putting the word in the title. but i still think if he knew anything about western culture, even just a small bit (i mean, come on, who still doesn't know Renamon is a kyuubi?), it might have helped. and i do agree at first, the battles do get boring, but there are plenty of high level and bosses to fight in thee game, so it keeps you on your toes.
+crcoghill He doesn't really make it a review in any sense. At no point is he analyzing or comparing anything in a serious manner. It's an exaggerated opinion used in a video that's very comedic in nature/tone. There's no segments or categories, or any score, so it can't really be called a review. Also the Japanese folklore is something that you can't really blame him for. Just because you and I may be heavily steeped in Japanese culture and legend doesn't mean everybody who plays a video game is. I think he was just simply trying to tell a joke, and personally I thought he was bang on!
well it kind of fails alittle. i mean, i didn't know if he was joking about Kyubi looking like Renamon. to men, that's just him not knowing they were based on the same myths.
I laughed at the instant snarkiness at the beginning, but it just became grating just a bit as you continued to roast the game for really no reason. Can't really say I'm a fan of this video, but I look forward to what you do next.
Agreed, all he really did was complain about the game without actually giving reason, aside from voice work and battle system being "boring," but then again, isn't Pokemon's battle system pretty boring as well? I feel like this video was just his way of saying "not pokemon, 3/10"
Yokai Watch is actually a fast paced continuous turn RPG, Pokemon is a turn-based RPG with more flare. Compared to Pokemon its garbage, but not comparing it to Pokemon its an alright game. Besides this is a cultural based game meaning Japan is the number one fan of this game because it is based off of something they know, Yokai, and Pokemon also fall under that category.
Man, do you do this little research for all your videos? I mean, I understand that 'weird japanese stuff' isn't your thing, but are you sure you couldn't have done a little more looking into what Yokai are? Cause not only is this is a series that you're not supposed to take too seriously (cause you know- weird but fun genre- also you completely misunderstood the battle system; you were just one chapter short of getting to where the learning curve drops off and strategy really comes into play), but this is a series that sticks a bit closer to some of the inspirations that Pokemon launched from. Bug-catching, gashapon, mythology, heck, even how most of the monsters in this game are essentially walking puns... A lot of the things you condemned Yo-Kai Watch for are the same things that inspired Pokemon! .... Though, you probably didn't know that, considering how research isn't really your thing :3c What I've noticed from this and a few of your other videos is that you really look at things from a very Americanized view- it seems that you're not too comfortable when a game's setting or themes are just a little too foreign. Which is what Yo-Kai Watch is. It's a very Japanese game, and not even trying to look for any of the context is kinda sad, really. So, here's hoping you might give the game (or it's sequels, when they're localized) a second chance when you learn to loosen up on your death grip bias you have for Pokemon, while I appreciate how bizarre and charming this series truly is.
Yeah, IMO I think the yokai watch games are better currently seeing how they put time , effort, and love into them rather than in Pokémon where they are focused on making money and minimal effort.
Counter argue attack with Buchi: Your a Pokèmon Fan hating on Yo-kai Watch... Pretty avrage. We hate the theme song but listen to that Geragerapo it's awesome. Black syrup is actually a real thing that pro bug catchers use in Japan. There not... nevermind The fights in this game are Awesome there new and fresh I mean I like Pokèmon but I can't stand fighting that Rattata with the SAME Type of fighting style EVREY SINGLE TIME. Atleast Yo-kai Watch Adds something new or completely changes the fighting style every game and don't say they don't because they do look at every single game they do jimmy. In conclusions I think both fan bases should get along and keep there childish opinions to themselves I'm talking about the little 7 year olds with the name Pokelover123 that's about to Rape this comment with "THIS GAME SUCKS IM ON JIMMY'S SIDE" yeah... so we all have are own opinions and I think we should get along if not then I'm going to do what a normal 7 Year old would do...
Alright. So you say Yo-Kai Watch is a ripoff right at the beginning. Okay, well, lemme tell you something. The intro for the game is very different from Pokémon games. Also, it has a unique battle style. Etc etc. anyways, Kyubi, er, the Digimon isn't supposed to be that digimon. He is based off of a Kitsune.
+Jade Mack I lost all my interest after gen 3. I don't care at all about competitive, so each game is the same turn based strategy as it was in gen 1. the game's rpg is so easy that very young children can beat it, and the stories are all very boring with awful villains. there is nothing for me in pokemon.
I'm baffled that you were able to make an 8 minute video on a game that you barely played or did any research on. This is an incredibly shameful review that in no way succeeded at getting any valid points across. I'm disappointed, I expected better from a Hidden Block member.
Bringer of dis pear how are his points valid when he didn't finish the second boss and judged the games battle system on the first one also a lot of his points weren't solid and we're just nitpicking at the very most also his ignnorince on the entire yokai mythology kinda pisses me off
@Bringer of dis pear did I say I wasn't? The fact is comparing it to the most basic battle system with the point of it being it's own stand alone idea then getting mad when it doesn't match your other games because its being unique doesn't help at all
@Bringer of dis pear yeah but there's a difference between when a collective have a standard and calling something bad because it isn't identical to something else
The dislike count is surprisingly accurate to the quality of the review and the bias that clearly went into it. I went to watch some reviews because I just finished 100% completing the Nintendo Switch version of 1 and I want to write my own review of the entire series. The top comment is absolutely right: watch Nitro Rad's video and come back to dislike this one when you're done (if you haven't already).
@Karim Alaili The trick is the Wayfarer Manor. If you're going to 100% the Switch version, the key is checking it every single day to see what you get. Every day, all of the potential visitors (you can get up to three per day) have a small chance to be one of the five Gemnyans, and (if I recall correctly) talking to them before even battling them gives you the bell item that makes them spawn in the overworld. (I can't remember if you can actually befriend them in the Wayfarer Manor battle or not, I'm pretty sure you can't.) Once you have the bell, they're located in the same place as in the 3DS version but you need to sleep once after receiving the bell for them to show up there (I'm pretty sure). Keep in mind that the same Gemnyan can show up more than once at the Wayfarer Manor, so definitely make sure to check it every day for maximum results. This is also the only way to get Pandanoko, so that's another benefit of doing this.
This aged bad for one big reason >Pokemon sun and moon reuses models and doesn't include all pokemon >Yo-Kai watch 4 every single model is new and all yo-kai have unique animations
I love Yo Kai Watch, I play it legit everyday. This review however... made my laugh a ton. It was similar to what I originally thought when I saw it, "No new Pokemon this year? Eh, this will do." Befriending Yo Kai is hard as Hell, I agree but overall, this game is simple and enjoyable, yet challenging if you want it to be. Loved the review as always, keep it up :D
Ok look before I say this don’t get me wrong, Yo kai watch is in no way trying to directly compete with Pokémon it is not ripping anything they did off and all it’s trying to be is a fun “catch a monster” style game maybe if Jimmy here actually played the whole game he would realize this. Now that we got that out of the way I honestly think that Yo kai watch is a better game than Pokémon . I just feel that the gameplay is more fast paced and is focused on managing your Yo kai and resources instead of the turn based gameplay that Pokémon has and for me personally I like it much more. Things that Pokémon fans clambered for since the very first games like having your team follow you around in the overworld had been done by Yo kai watch since day one. I like Yo kai watches designs more like Kabuking or Hinozall and the fact that yo kai watch is willing to change it’s gameplay and overall themes from game to game shows a lot of creativity by the people at Level 5. Yo kai watch has actual boss fights in their games that sometimes have certain puzzle elements in them that make them a blast to play, and they can get *HARD* at times. And finally their quirky, distinct, and catchy music is absolutely amazing and can even be moving in some cases. Overall I just really like the Yo kai watch series and I feel that it deserves more respect than it gets Also put Jibanyan in smash DO IT COWARDS
By the wise words of Alpharad "You can't proove a game is bad if you don't finish it." Jimmy did exact opposite. And this video triggers me as a whole.
This was interesting, I guess. Seeing how far Jimmy went in this game he probably had gave it the same attention that a lot of people have who just writes this off as a "poke-clone". It's really anything but that if you put time into playing it, but I enjoyed the video anyway.
***** - You do know you don't have to put ours into Yo-Kai Watch like you have to for Pokemon, right? Have you played it yet? It's a pretty short game if you're not trying to befriend everyone. Really cute and funny, doesn't take itself seriously which makes it fun to read. The Yo-Kai are pretty interesting to read about as well :). Getting to chapter 2 (where it seems like Jimmy stopped) is less than 2 hour of gameplay.
MG Dragon - Don't worry, I've re-watched it again to make sure what I wasn't just comment to comment. Also, that's okay. The fighting is boring, I even thought it was boring and still do! But I didn't let the fighting keep me form exploring a fun and interesting game. But like I said, it's also if it wants to stop at chapter 2. I did like the bug and fish catching, though. It felt like Animal Crossing.
+Queen-BMVagabond its not to boring of fighting since you can give them books to read so they can use magic more, attack more, debuff/buff more often and defend more plus the skill they have are all great to use like the old woman tattletell she heals anyone near by even when you move her and your friends in the back she will heal them. Also she can fuse into a kiss fan. rock on grandma.
Here's the story: Atlus makes this game series called Shin megami tensei in 1992 where you make pacts with demons and gods from mythology you meet during your adventure and make them your party members. Then in 1996 Nintendo makes that concept into a kids-friendly version more about fun and less about questioning life philosophies. Then in 2000 Atlus makes kid's version of Shin megami tensei that's basically pokemon with gods and demons and for a time it rivals pokemon pretty well until Atlus gets bored. Fast forward to 2013 aaaand nintendo rips-off Demikids to make Yo-Kai Watch.
Its probably just a coincidence that SMT and Pokemon have similar elements. Its just both sometimes uses the same mythology and it can't be helped that its similar. If anything, this shows the lack of understanding Jimmy have of Japanese culture.
They did the warning thing with Inazuma eleven, the original LEVEL-5 RPG, which never made sense since Inazuma eleven is pretty much DBZ + Naruto + FIFA + Pokemon (which was fucking awesome, the game had a great story, amazing gameplay, good graphics, amazing music and incredible 2D cutscenes) Also this game isn't a Pokemon rip off, this is from one of the biggest Pokemon fanboys
+Mr. @ No, those and Yo-kai Watch are both based off of Japanese myth creatures called "yokai" funny enough. They share origins much like Tails from sonic and Ninetails from Pokemon...which are also based off of yokai.
Isaac Argesmith I know, I meant Monster Collecting, Elemental Typings and Evolution, Gameplay mechanics that series like Yo-Kai Watch, Digimon & Even SMT get called "Pokemon Ripoffs" for even though It didn't implement them in the first place.
When this vid came out I would have considered them as equals but with the current state of the pokemon games I'm gonna be honest here I mighy have to agree with you..
I really enjoy the game. You have to pay attention to who you're targeting, use your Soultimates with good timing, switch your Yo-kai out to prevent them getting killed and purify them, use items wisely and think about types in your team when switching them around during battle. Especially during bosses, with that awesome boss music, you really have to pay attention to attacks patterns to win. I just hope you're not saying you dislike it just because you're comparing it to Pokemon. Really, the only thing that's the same about them is that they're magical creatures that you can collect and have fight for you. I guess that would also mean that Dragon Quest Monsters and Monster Rancher are not fun simply because they are rip-offs of Pokemon. But from what I saw, what you disliked about it were the battles (Which I enjoyed, but I get where you're coming from) and the weird story stuff (And I agree, from what I've played so far, it is pretty dumb and makes little sense, but I look at it as a means to an end). I'm gonna stop myself now, I've probably already made a few people butthurt. o-o
If this were actually a good parody review, it'd be funny with legitimate jokes and humor to tear down the game if said game was actually bad to begin with. Instead, it's just the whining and complaining of a biased Pokemon fanboy getting triggered for playing a monster collecting game that happens to actually be forcing the Pokemon Company to have competition in its homeland and claiming its a ripoff even though Pokemon isn't that original and piggybacks off Shin Megami Tensei and Dragon Quest, which did monster battling/collecting YEARS before Pokemon did. This parody review is about as entertaining as watching a child bawl over spilled milk. Except that this toddler somehow managed to grasp a level of intelligence that allowed him to form full sentences so he could spew more ignorance and whining.
Smh, Jimmy Jimmy jimmy, I know this might be a late comment, but bro don't say these things by just reviewing the game from the first what, 30 min? You literally should've played the game a bit more, then told ur opinions about it, but then u just ruined it for the other yokai fans that looked up to u... GL earning them subscribers back 😁 next time, actually "Play The Game" and make a "GOOD" review on it 😊 don't know why u would be calling a game "trash" just cuz of its first looks, but I mean they are ur sucky opinions 😂
Yo-Kai Watch is not a Pokemon rip-off. It's a Shin Megami Tensei rip-off (I mean let's face it, it has more in common with SMT than it does with Pokemon) but Pokemon is also a Shin Megami Tensei rip-off in a way so...I guess it all comes together to prove your point. Hooray! ...I like bread.
If you think the attack animations are stupid, then can you take a good look at some Pokémon attacks that literally shows us that WHILE THEY ARE ATTACKING, THEY ARE IN THEIR IDOL POSE. IN. THE. AIR.
+Justin Lebet for someone who actually knows have the creatures, it's cool to try and befriend them. and sure the battle system is ok at best at first, it gets better when you fight harder bosses like the Oni and Snartle and heck, even the final boss is challenging. jimmy quite playing, so his review is kind of ... meh, at best.
+crcoghill I'll confess I HATE the recruitment system. I can have a party full of people with the Popularity ability, give them their favorite food, and it still takes a butt load of tries, but overall I enjoy the game. I really like the boss fights though, actually having to target different areas of the boss is really engaging.
3:55-4:06 Yes, because if Little Shop of Horrors taught us anything, is that when an ominous being sings a creepy song asking you to feed it, you should definitely do what it says!
Actually it’s not a Pokémon rip-off it’s an actual game that the director put his heart out in. It actually was everywhere in japan. But people call it an Pokemon rip-off unfairly here in America.
Stuff Pokemon stole from Yo-Kai Watch: 1. Z-Moves happened after Yo-Kai Watch Soultimate Moves 2.Rotom Dex has the thing in between it's eyes Like Whisper and 3. One of the Sun & Moon starters is a Red Cat Stuff that Yo-Kai Watch stole from Pokemon: 1. There are a bunch of Animals that fight (But this doesn't matter because there are other games like this) oh I can't find other stuff that Yo-Kai Watch stole.
Been a bit, but this game is so much more than a Pokémon clone, not only are your arguments terrible, but I want to say one thing that demolishes this whole entire video. They don’t rush the game.
"those are pokeballs"
wow it's almost as if pokeballs were based off the design of capsules from japanese capsule machines, what an amazing discovery
Sorry Jimmy, this video is irrelevant due to you not finishing the game, trust me, it gets really good towards the end
"That sounded smarter in my head"
You mean the whole video?
eyyyyyyy
OHHHHHH
*****
***** That's like saying it's lazy to include Cthulhu in a Lovecraft-inspired game.
Which I guess is what happened.
if anyone ripped off anyone in the genre it was pokemon ripping off smt
@Thomas Kerans exactly
Yeah I can’t see many pokemon things here beside how you befriend them wich isn’t even original themselves
Jaden Priestley that sentence made no sense
Owain Kun actually I was a good competitive battler in oras and I like yokai watch you can't call a game a rip off when with that logic Pokémon is a rip off of Shin magami tensei the logic just doesn't make sense
KomashuraGaming it's a lowkey ripoff having 2 games recently them super close too one another then a third one also gets made ohh doesn't that sound familiar lol only problem it's just when it comes too the battle system it's shallower, boring and just super repetitive and not really creative unlike Pokémon that's why it's doing soo bad now your just too blinded by your biased boner to ever realize that
Sooo...I can just play Pokemon till the first gym, say it's a shameless Shin Megami Tensei ripoff and never play it again...
ok...
Finally! *Someone who actually does their research.*
Perrfect
So what you're saying is that you think it's a ripoff because it's a game of the monster raising RPG genre (Which Pokemon did NOT invent), that the battle system is boring (Without looking deeper into it) and that the designs and inspirations of the Yo-Kai are lackluster (Without actually looking into these inspirations) ... GG
It's funny because he called it a rip-off but instead of stating ways it "is" a rip-off he just complains about how it's different from Pokémon.
Says It's A Pokemon Ripoff
Complains Why It's Different To Pokemon
I Need Logic Jimmy
SonicGamer 2 the Pokémon inside his body is fucking him up
Marcus Yamamoto Wtf?
Marcus Yamamoto The yo-kai are fucking with you
Pokémon Trainer Red no! The Pokémon are fucking you!
Marcus Yamamoto OH NO! I'M DYING BECAUSE OF POKÉMON AND I LIKE YOKAI WATCH TOO AHHHH! Ded*
“The battle system is boring” homie pokemon barely even HAS ONE.
Jimmy Whetzel when he realizes just pressing the a button every five seconds is not a fun battle system 🤯
I've been playing pokémon since red and loved them so much until pearl, then I started to just enjoy them, Yo-kai watch is nothing like pokémon, I started playing it and became addicted, it's silly, fun and simple, but still complicated and really cool, you can't judge something you played for less than half the game... Nitro Rad's counter argument feels way more professional than this video.
yeah and now nitro rad has more subs 😂
NitroRad lit yo ass up
+This Isn't Joey LMAO True just finished watching it also
He used facts.
It was super effective.
Jimmy uses "i can't respond to hate"
*doesn't respond to any comment supporting Yo-kai watch*
Yo-kai Watch is awesome, silly and playful. Not a ripoff. Lots of people are saying this review is very ignorant. I wish Jimmy would give the franchise a second chance with Yo-Kai Watch 2 coming out and repair the misplaced label of being terrible.
Also yokai watch 2 on sale when it comes out is 9.30, pokemon cost way more than yokai watch, the definition of rip off is something that is higher than the original
So, a game about capturing and battling monsters with superpowers is not a Pokemon rip-off? Get real.
What's SMT?
MegaSpideyman shin megani tensei
The "pokemon" before pokemon
Like yokai watch, it's a much more spiritual game
I actually never realized that who would have thunk it
I agree pokemon does sometimes feel like a chore I put off Ultra Moon just so I could play Yo-kai Watch 3 And Busters.
MegaSpideyman Shin Megami Tensei is a M rated RPG series developed by Atlus. The Persona series (if you know what that is) is a subseries of SMT.
Like the other Mon games you capture and summon monsters to use in combat, except you join the demonic abominations to attack the deities and devils that are in your way.
>rants on the game
>doesn't finish the game
***** if someone has to review something they need to complete the entire thing no matter how boring.
If he actually played the game he's reviewing he'd have a valid argument against it, like the use of recolors or lack of Villain build up.
but at least when you rant on a game do a bit of resaerch.
and Mr.@,well said.
"Yokai Watch is a Pokémon ripoff"
I'm gonna stop ya right there, Jimbo.
+Mima Hakurei The original JP game (YW1) didn't have a theme song at all, just cuts to title screen.
+Mothimas Well then. That would have also been acceptable. Anything but that theme song.
+Mima Hakurei i agree with everything in this statement
plus im really excited for yw2
i hope it gets better reception here than the first game
Mima Hakurei THANK YOU
personally I don't think it's a pokemon rip off the things I hate are the fact you don't control the F***ING YOKAI and that sometimes they are lazy enough to not even fight!
I came here for a legitimate review
Hiroku999 You didn't get it did you? Because this review is awful.
Mr. Poopy Butthole no, I did get yokai watch, I didn't listen to jimmy cuz he clearly sounded biased
Hiroku999 And uneducated on the topic.
some 8 yr old on the net Wrong place... I mean he even blatantly stated he never finished it.
it's not a review.
Especially since monster-collecting wasn't even started by Pokemon. Pokemon took the concept from Megami Tensei.
MC_ Sea it’s funny because the only major similarities the two game is that your a young kid going around catching monsters. And in yokai watch it’s so much more complex than that lmao
Yo-Kai Watch it's goofy, cute, and can be quite fun.
Totally Bonkers ikr
I'm not sure about "Cute" but yeah I agree.
@@soniboo9202 jibanyan is really cute tbh
@@jebaited5815 So is Komasan. There are times were I want to give him a hug
Agreed
I think you might've forgot your brain at the store
and probably many other things too...
Yo-kai watch is about Japanese folklore and Yo-kai mythology where Yo-kai control people
Pokemon just fight other Pokemon for thier trainers
0:08-0:52 This part make a pretty good try not to get angry challenge
Yo-Kai Watch is fucking massive in Japan. When I went there like a year ago, this shit was EVERYWHERE. Like, I couldn't walk around a corner without seeing something about it.
From what I know about modern Japanese culture, every millennial there is like a hipster but only with shit things, and they don't get over it until after like 5 years.
It's like Minions, but for Japan!
+lewaproductions "But only with shit things"
So... exactly like a hipster.
+lewaproductions I'd say Yo-kai Watch is closer to minions, like it's already been said.
(Says its a Pokemon Rip off)
(shows nothing that is similar to pokemon)
Marco Gonzalez he shows the game, so he does show things similar to pokemon.
SimplebutAwesome yeah he does but the game is nothing similar
The genre is the only thing the games share. And I guess the console they are in
Bringer of dis pear first of all they don’t all come out of gashapon capsules second of all they aren’t monsters and finally your not collecting them your friending them
Bringer of dis pear they’re spirits not fictional creatures and unlike pokemon they’re based off real things in Japanese folklore
Who came here from nitro rad

Yohoat Masterball it and its yours. Cant do that in YW
Yes.
Yohoat Not really. You can just get false swipe. Either way, the catching system in pokemon is more frustrating than intense.
I'm a Pokémon fan since I was 6 and what you are stating are really messy and wrong. You didn't do much research about the game and Japanese culture huh. Here I do it for you:
-A yokai is Japanese mythology creatures that have existed in Japan for over hundreds and hundreds of years.
This is very border line r/iamverysmart
I hope you matured after two years
@@joanthemad5894 I don't think you know what the subreddit r/iamverysmart is. He is just stating counter arguments against Jimmy's video.

Yo-Kai watch is actually a good game in Japan and that's what level 5 puts before you start to play any level 5 game
I honestly enjoy this game more than any Pokemon game.
Okay, the "Black syrup" thing actually makes sense, it was just oddly translated. In the Japanese version, it translates tmore properly to "Super Black Honey", and it just like putting honey on trees in Pokemon to attract bug type Pokemon. It's a real technique used in bug catching
Wow, surprised to see you here....
Probably censored because people would get triggered because of "Super Black".
@@vx9170 As a Super Black man I feel personally offended by your use the phrase
-_-
Ixey5 I dont find neither battle system strategic
I could care less about that kind of stuff
This is honestly a bad review, I mean I love Yo-kai Watch and pokémon, at the beginning, I didn't think this was a ripoff of Pokèmon. I give the game an 8/10, and this was the first video I disliked. Just because there's a monster hunting RPG, doesn't mean it's a Pokèmon ripoff.

after playing the demo foe yokai watch 2 id have to agree
Your arguments are as strong as a straw, you didn't even play the game to the end!
Watch ur words lol straws are pretty tough I agree tho
If he would've played further in he could've argued that recoloring Yo-Kai and calling them different names was lazy, but he didn't so he can't.
nah more like a ice cube in a inferno
From what I've heard, the combat in this game is similar to Xenoblade's, and Jimmy seems to like that game just fine, so I wonder what's different.
+masso.10 Er I don't know where you heard that.
... The games are somewhat alike but xenoblade chronicles is much better. The gameplay is also way for interesting.
+SonicLegends The Dex Podcast.
Xenoblade has combat similar to an MMO, Yokai has a watered down Shin Megami Tensai combat. I don't see many similarities.
Xenoblade is an action RPG, much more cinematic, so it can get away with some "auto-fights". Plus the special attack minigames seem to be more varied, and also there are special attacks. And it has a set cast and an equipment.
Welp, that's a good start to the video: "Yo-kai Watch is a Pokémon ripoff" - I smell ignorance.
Remember kids, if you collect monsters in a game, it's a Pokémon rip-off. Final Fantasy XIII-2? Rip-off. Dragon Quest Monsters? Rip-off. Ni No Kuni? Rip-off. Monster Rancher? Rip-off. Every Shin Megami Tensei game? Fucking rip-off.
Goddamn, if only there was still creativity left in the gaming world.
Ironically, Shin Megami Tensei happened _before_ Pokémon!
I know this is really late, but I thought I’d just put it here.
this is not a good review. this game is not Pokemon, is a lot different

Wow, Jimmy, sorry you didn't enjoy this one. I personally though it was/is a hell of a lot of fun, goofy as it is (which is personally a plus for me), and I'm still playing it every day, almost 100 hours in. Until The Pokemon Company gives us Gen VII, I will be more than happy to play Yo-Kai Watch, and I'll continue to hope that the sequels make it Stateside as well.
..the very final part of this statement, unfortunately, did not age all too well
i like yo kai watch but its your opinon
I agree. Opinions are really hard to use as a reference for how good something is. What if you missed out on an amazing movie because some nerd gave it a bad review for "lazy ideas"?
Shaza Shawa I like it to but I can't get mad at him
Shaza Shawa the problem with his opinion is it's reaching alot of people wondering if they should play this game or not his review gives the impression that it isn't worth giving a try
I played the shit out of Yo-Kai Watch. It was very entertaining to me.
Wait... If you didn't finish the game why did you make a review? That fact alone makes your view on the game invalid.
Jimmy's just biased
Jimmy works for IGN and we didn't even know it.
Isaiah Bryant he’s a game journalist in disguise
Uh why would you force yourself to play a game you don't like?
Grimace from McDonalds Because then you can’t do a review about it and say it’s bad when you don’t understand it nor have you finished it.
Nitro Rad kindof destroyed you and debunked literally all of this, man.
wow jimmy, this might be your worst review i've seen. i mean, you clearly don't know anything about Japan's culture or mythical creatures. i mean, no shit does Kyubi look like renamon, THEY ARE BASED OFF THE SAME THING!! and just because one looks like a butt should dismiss it! i mean, they cause mischief and embarrassment, what's more embarrassing than farting in a public area!? and you start off saying it's a pokemon clone, knowing full well it isn't and you being a pokemon fan yourself. even i'm a huge fan of pokemon, played since Silver, and even i knew going into this it was nothing like pokemon. and sure, i can't fully protect it from the fuss, the combat is abit slow at first and even befriending (yes, not catching!) is kind of a mix bag, but you know what! once you get stronger and fight harder bosses and yo-kai, you see it does get more interesting cause you have to give buffs, food for health and even help them out to attack all the foes on screen. i think it's fun when you pull off a soultimate. furthermore....i don't mind the theme opening. sure, it's just generic English songs to fill in the original so your not reading the opening, but come on, i've heard far worse openings from games and shows alike. and yes, it does say what Yo-kai is all about, but is that really a bad thing?
to put it short and simple, this was a bad review, funny, but just bad. if you don't understand the simplest of Japan's myths, of course your gonna rip that one yo-kai looks like a pokemon or a digimon or hell, like an animal crossing character. but here's the thing: they're all based on the same thing! i'm sorry jimmy, it's just how i feel.
Haha for fuck sake man its a video on fucking UA-cam don't take that shit so serious.
*tips fedora*
I've been watching this youtube video for the past 8 years, every single day multiple times a day because it's so bad
(this is a joke)
He calls Nate/Keita boring, yet a running joke in the series is how he's really average.
He inadvertently went along with the joke
I laughed at the instant snarkiness at the beginning, but it just became grating just a bit as you continued to roast the game for really no reason. Can't really say I'm a fan of this video, but I look forward to what you do next.
***** That's mainly what I started to notice. It's just kind of a sloppy presentation overall.
Agreed, all he really did was complain about the game without actually giving reason, aside from voice work and battle system being "boring," but then again, isn't Pokemon's battle system pretty boring as well? I feel like this video was just his way of saying "not pokemon, 3/10"
+BCkhaos he did give reasons, watch the video again and you will see them
I've watched it three times. The reasons he did give were very shallow and minor.
Actually Yo-Kai Have been around longer than Pokemon because of Yo-Kai Mythology
Yokai Watch is definitely different, but I find it fun!
A lot of the things you condemned Yo-Kai Watch for are the same things that inspired Pokemon! .... Though, you probably didn't know that, considering how research isn't really your thing :3c
What I've noticed from this and a few of your other videos is that you really look at things from a very Americanized view- it seems that you're not too comfortable when a game's setting or themes are just a little too foreign. Which is what Yo-Kai Watch is. It's a very Japanese game, and not even trying to look for any of the context is kinda sad, really. So, here's hoping you might give the game (or it's sequels, when they're localized) a second chance when you learn to loosen up on your death grip bias you have for Pokemon, while I appreciate how bizarre and charming this series truly is.
exactly!
Yeah, IMO I think the yokai watch games are better currently seeing how they put time , effort, and love into them rather than in Pokémon where they are focused on making money and minimal effort.
also please watch Nitro Rad's counter argument to this if you haven't already.
The thing I really like about this game is the Overworld design. It feels so alive. I hope future pokémon games can take a note or two from it.
They really didn’t holy crap
Funny, but I think Yo-Kai Watch and ORAS are both good games.
+MetaSonic543 I appreciate you
Crazyangel1245
Thanks, buddy!
John Dwyer
Yea, boy!
This video will never not be funny. It just oozes "butthurt pkmn fangirl"
Counter argue attack with Buchi:
Your a Pokèmon Fan hating on Yo-kai Watch...
I'm a 7 year old "THIS GAME GOT NOTHING ON YO-KAI WATCH THIS GAME SUCKS!!!!!"
pandajuanplays the pandanoko, i'm just poking fun at the little kids
@@tomnyanto3784 what?
You might would like to check what NitroRad made in your tribute about this delicate subject. Better have burn heal!
I don't have a problem with someone disliking yo Kai watch but calling it a Pokémon rip off is something else
I don't agree with the majority of what you said but that's okay. I'm not going to write an angry backlash in your comments section.
+Kennedy Nicholas You are the light of the world
actually in one episode of yo kai watch jibanyan goes back in time and figures out that her owner actually said "I'm so lame"
It's just sad that he begins the game thinking Yo-kai Watch is a ripoff of pokemon...
I actually liked this game way more than Pokemon.
I as well. As of late, I've been feeling that Pokèmon has gotten stale and too easy.
yeah me too
+Jade Mack by "recent" do you mean for the last 10+ years?
+Jade Mack I lost all my interest after gen 3. I don't care at all about competitive, so each game is the same turn based strategy as it was in gen 1. the game's rpg is so easy that very young children can beat it, and the stories are all very boring with awful villains. there is nothing for me in pokemon.
Jade Mack Well put
I know this video is 8 years olds but he calls capsules pokeballs! Has bro never seen a gacha machine in his life?
Angry at Yokai Watch? Yokai is why, of course.
Wait...
I'm baffled that you were able to make an 8 minute video on a game that you barely played or did any research on. This is an incredibly shameful review that in no way succeeded at getting any valid points across. I'm disappointed, I expected better from a Hidden Block member.
Bringer of dis pear how are his points valid when he didn't finish the second boss and judged the games battle system on the first one also a lot of his points weren't solid and we're just nitpicking at the very most also his ignnorince on the entire yokai mythology kinda pisses me off
@Bringer of dis pear lol but have you played it? The main point I've seen him do is heavily try and compare it to Pokemon
@Bringer of dis pear did I say I wasn't? The fact is comparing it to the most basic battle system with the point of it being it's own stand alone idea then getting mad when it doesn't match your other games because its being unique doesn't help at all
@Bringer of dis pear comparisons is the worst type of criticism
This aged bad for one big reason
>Pokemon sun and moon reuses models and doesn't include all pokemon
>Yo-Kai watch 4 every single model is new and all yo-kai have unique animations
Also Sword and sheild, a much higher budget game, looks noticeably worse.
And also yokai watch has voice acting, at the time of making this comment pokemon doesn't have it in its main line games
@@sillysnail2223 it funny that the spin off title have voice acting and the main line doesn’t.
I love Yo Kai Watch, I play it legit everyday. This review however... made my laugh a ton. It was similar to what I originally thought when I saw it, "No new Pokemon this year? Eh, this will do."
Befriending Yo Kai is hard as Hell, I agree but overall, this game is simple and enjoyable, yet challenging if you want it to be.
Overall I just really like the Yo kai watch series and I feel that it deserves more respect than it gets
Also put Jibanyan in smash DO IT COWARDS
YEEES. FINALLY A REASONABLE COMMENT
When you try to make a review of a game but you only have 1 brain cell
By the wise words of Alpharad "You can't proove a game is bad if
you don't finish it." Jimmy did exact opposite.
And this video triggers me as a whole.
its nothing like pokemon
***** - I'm sorry you're really sad.
***** - I did bc what a diss.
Only problem is this wasn't made by Nintendo, it was Level-5.
Oh, they do only publish it. Jimmy almost lied to me, by not saying everything.
Its probably just a coincidence that SMT and Pokemon have similar elements. Its just both sometimes uses the same mythology and it can't be helped that its similar.
If anything, this shows the lack of understanding Jimmy have of Japanese culture.
Level5 isn't Nintendo. Nintendo just has their games on their consoles
Actually, a person who created level 5 made many hits, not like you did
They did the warning thing with Inazuma eleven, the original LEVEL-5 RPG, which never made sense since Inazuma eleven is pretty much DBZ + Naruto + FIFA + Pokemon (which was fucking awesome, the game had a great story, amazing gameplay, good graphics, amazing music and incredible 2D cutscenes)
Also this game isn't a Pokemon rip off, this is from one of the biggest Pokemon fanboys
I don't think it's a "Pokemon Ripoff!" It just shares similar ideas as Pokemon.
They weren't even Pokemon's ideas to begin with, it mostly came from Shin Megami Tensei & Dragon Quest, which came before Pokemon.
I agree with you
The Poke'Saurus ya
"Like, you gotta push a button, and hopefully you'll catch the bug."
...I don't even need to fully explain this, that'd just be redundant.
4:18
those things are actually what pokeballs are based on. you see them in toy machines all the time, holding little toys and stuff.
Yo kai watch is *BETTER* than Pokémon and I will never apologize
I wholeheartedly agree with everything you say.
Jimmy: Yokai Watch is a Pokemon Rip Off
Me: at least Yokai are real, unlike Pokemon
If you think the attack animations are stupid, then can you take a good look at some Pokémon attacks that literally shows us that WHILE THEY ARE ATTACKING, THEY ARE IN THEIR IDOL POSE. IN. THE. AIR.
Ok i think i got carried away
Holy shit. I don't even have interest in this game and can see so many things wrong with this review.
This is insulting.
God... This video was so negative... It's actually kind of petty to be perfectly honest...
Bandana Waddle Dee For sure, he is basically just complaining that this game is like pokemon
Am I the only one who likes Yo-Kai?
Yes?
OK
I'll leave now...
+Justin Lebet I like it.
+Justin Lebet It's a pretty great game
+Justin Lebet for someone who actually knows have the creatures, it's cool to try and befriend them. and sure the battle system is ok at best at first, it gets better when you fight harder bosses like the Oni and Snartle and heck, even the final boss is challenging. jimmy quite playing, so his review is kind of ... meh, at best.
+crcoghill I'll confess I HATE the recruitment system. I can have a party full of people with the Popularity ability, give them their favorite food, and it still takes a butt load of tries, but overall I enjoy the game.
I really like the boss fights though, actually having to target different areas of the boss is really engaging.
yep, the only one. Surprisingly enough, you're the only sale outside of Japan.
8 years later and this video is still fraudulent 😭
You really need to remake this video AND ACTUALLY BEAT THE GAME AND LOOK IN TO WHAT IT IS BASED ON!!
The boy looks boring.
*THAT'S THE POINT*
3:55-4:06 Yes, because if Little Shop of Horrors taught us anything, is that when an ominous being sings a creepy song asking you to feed it, you should definitely do what it says!
3:03 this episode in a nutshell
Actually it’s not a Pokémon rip-off it’s an actual game that the director put his heart out in. It actually was everywhere in japan. But people call it an Pokemon rip-off unfairly here in America.
Stuff Pokemon stole from Yo-Kai Watch:
1. Z-Moves happened after Yo-Kai Watch Soultimate Moves
2.Rotom Dex has the thing in between it's eyes Like Whisper
and 3. One of the Sun & Moon starters is a Red Cat
Stuff that Yo-Kai Watch stole from Pokemon:
1. There are a bunch of Animals that fight (But this doesn't matter because there are other games like this)
oh I can't find other stuff that Yo-Kai Watch stole.
Been a bit, but this game is so much more than a Pokémon clone, not only are your arguments terrible, but I want to say one thing that demolishes this whole entire video.
They don’t rush the game.
