- Every 4 years a narrowboat needs a BSS inspection. Its Narrowboat Lauras time for an inspection. BSS stands for Boat Safety Scheme and it does what it says on the tin.
After a shaky start we managed to pass the inspection with a few Advisories.

You can drown in Carbone monoxide and Carbone dioxide. Boat is a tank, hence the reason for lots of low level vents.
Ive worked in houses for years & were mandated to place vents high up so it seemed odd to do it the other way round. Looks like its a good idea though. Thanks for the comment👍
That's really interesting about the carbon monoxide monitor because when I had a log burner installed in my old house about 3 years ago they placed the monitor on the same wall as the log burner about a few inches below ceiling height and they said regulations said it has to be there
I was really surprised about the placement but I suppose it makes sense with the boat being so small fumes can fill it up pretty quick.👍
@@barelyfloating it makes sense but I wonder with the BSS how much is the examiners own recommendations and how much is BSS guidelines also I imagine certain things within the BSS will change by 2026 when it comes time to do my boats BSS but it's always handy to watch any BSS vlogs in the meantime to get an idea of what they expect that's why I find this vlog really useful also when iv fixed the leak in my engine I know I have some serious engine bilge degreasing and cleaning to do 😆

@@barelyfloating when I do it I will be swearing the sentence " I effing hate boats " about 1500 times then after iv done it I'll feel a sense of accomplishment and pride and fall back in love with boats again 😆😆😆

Just how did they manage 100yrs ago with diesel engines on these things - or did they all die with no carbon monoxide monitor?
