This isn't how I like to make my tabletop crafts, I personally enjoy painting rather than using printed out textures, but there's just something so entertaining and engaging with these videos, I just love them so much! Everything is just so neat and tidy and planned out. Different strokes for different folks, but I think we can all agree Crooked Staff Terrain is freaking awesome. :-D

I wouldn't be too worried about "going over the top" with this sort of stuff - the advantage of your approach is adding these details is trivial (except maybe that basket!), so you get all the benefits of prettier looking terrain with very little effort, result.

When I record the video I usually think about what I'll be saying as I'm building (for example, I might actually say 'down in the description' as I point towards the bottom of the screen - just so that it kinda syncs ...if that makes sense) - but I always do the voice over separate (usually when I have a rough edit of the video done).
I just realized now that I'm looking for it... you don't have any variations on double doors! Which for the large mansion style dungeon I'm making would be really great for combat scenarios. Allowing for more ways into a room.

i have been wanting to ask for a while but... do you dm for a group? if so, those are some lucky players because my god... having everything in the game very well represented is already a treat, but knowing that the dm is actually handcrafting each and every one of the things for you...
I used to be part of 2 different groups (with rotating GMs) ...but since that was always away from home, I was somewhat limited with what I could take with me when I was running a game. However, that's why the cardboard 2.5D method worked well for me ...as the tiles themselves are so quick and easy to make (and lightweight) , that I could just throw what I needed into an old shoe box, and not worry about them (as if anything got damaged or had stuff spilled on them, it's no big deal). The rest of the stuff (like bits of scatter terrain) got put in one or two of these: i.imgur.com/CIg3afh.jpg So I did have to be somewhat selective with what I could use at any given time - but it worked well enough :) Now though, I'm gaming online* (for obvious reasons) - but I hope to get back to an actual table some time next year (fingers crossed). *at the moment I'm running a drop-in/drop-out style of game for some of my Patreon supporters over on Discord & Roll20 ...and I 'think' it's been going OK.
Definitely ...I'm just not running (or planning on running) any sci-fi games at the moment. As soon as I do, all that will change :) (but I have to admit that the fantasy genre has always been more my kind of thing ...as you can probably tell).
@@dhoyt4377 Yeah ...I'm really pleased with how the Discord is going ...as the comments here on youtube generally dry up after a day or two - so it's been good to exchange messages with folks pretty much every single day over on Discord.
I noticed that on the edges of some pieces (the curtains for example) the cardboard or cardstock used didn't seem to match and kind of 'stuck out.' My solution to this would be to use a marker of the right color on the very edge to 'hide' that issue. I hope someone can use that trick.
I know a lot of folks 'black line' the edges of their builds (which looks great) ...but I've never had much luck with that (it always bleeds badly into the paper). Maybe I just need to use better quality paper :)
This is AWESOME. I'm covering an english class this year (typically a digital tech teacher) and we are doing a unit on houses and home decorations. Going to build them a four room house using your materials and them get to make their own decorations modelling our vocab and grammar points haha. Then I will take said resources home for my DnD games! Does this count as child labour!? Haha
@@CrookedStaffTerrain Got them all printed, making the template house this weekend, then will setup work stations at school for the items, playing your videos on loop on the ipad with all the materials at hand. Grade 2s, but I have faith they will smash it haha.

I know what you mean - but, that being said, you can get cheap refill kits to help keep the cost down. For example, the refill set I've bought cost around £10 and will likely last me a couple of years. The only downside is that it can sometimes be a bit messy if you're not careful, and you can only really refill a cartridge around 5 or 6 times before the thing dies on you ...but it's what I've been doing for years.
All the add on bits make the room better brill.

I'd suggest using adhesive putty to stick them to the walls so that you can reuse them in other buildings.

If printer ink wasn't so darn expensive, I would be making these for every game I run. But printer ink IS expensive. Also COVID :(
