That brings out early teens memories. In the mid 70's, I helped my Dad splitting ash and elm with wedges and sledge hammers. Mind you, we did it when the weather was in the low minuses. I raise my cup of coffee and offer a toast, to hard working Men.

Since I split most of my own wood, I don't get many. I have a friend that helps sometimes and I call him the shingle maker. You gotta figure cost, Are you willing to pay another $650.00 - $750.00 to adjust the deck height on a splitter ? I can't imagine Me paying that when I can make it taller with a piece of board

Never bin (haha) there because I have my own firewood pile! Be prepared for thousands of firewood lovin' tourists!! And maybe a half dozen cat lovers!! Give them a paid tour, butt don't show them your cracked ash, you'll run them off for sure!! Keep the old firewood chucker motto in mind: "Charlie, Yankee, Alpha"! That's NATO for chuckers all over the world. It means Cover Your Ash! Especially if it's huge, or cracked, or rotten and stinky! I try to do a good turn EVERY day, so today, you're IT!! Lucky you, huh?! GNI
Thanks for the constant barrage of excellent wordsmithery.
@@InTheWoodyard Hey! Not my fault! My Mom had a vocabulary of 20 or 30 thousand words! It was just like osmosis!! I've got like at least 2 or 3 thousnd words!! Eat your heart out!! She didn't like Superman or Peanuts comics, but I did!! I've always believed that a picture is worth several words!! And you're sorta the lucky beneficiary!! Happy chuckin'!
I don't like big, flat, shingle looking pieces. They seem to smother the fire in my wood stove . I try to stand them up sideways but I would prefer they were cut in half. Since I split most of my own wood, I don't get many. I have a friend that helps sometimes and I call him the shingle maker. I love ash, most of ours in Ohio is so far gone, it is no longer worth cutting into firewood. Last year I burned a lot of ash and may get a little this year. Mostly going to have hickory. 29 trees went down in a spring icestorm, uprooted.
Yup, shingles, they dry nice and stack up good in a boiler for a long burn.
Tree service wood can be the best and the worst at the same time.
A blessing and a small challenge.
But the price makes up for a little bit of exercise
Love it when somebody quotes from "The Great American Novel"!! "It was the best of wood. It was the worst of wood." - "A Tale of Two Villages". Can't remem the author's last name, but his first name was Kenny. He supposedly lives in N. Wisconsin, of all places!! I heard he agonized over writing the book, took off work for almost 2 DAYS to write it!! He's most likely just a big layabout!! But he does have a way with words!! Esp the German word for workin', gefahrt. I think that's one of Chris' favorite words too! Seems he's always fahrtin' in his vids!! He's always sayin' how he likes to be outside. May be a good reason. Like, he's not allowed to fahrt or gefahrten inside!!
@heymaker phd you put chris and kenny together they both fart just as much. See who can stink who out first
Yup. 90% good.
yup!!!!!!
I'd think about using tractor to load chunks into trailer then splitting out of trailer and using elevator to fill your bin
Yup, that would work too.
Morning Chris , probably been asked before , how long does a full tank last cheers , keep up the good work, I split about two face cords yesterday using my axe hence today I’m having a rest day of sorts , I stacked it today on pallets.
3 hours 13 minutes and 17.13957 seconds + -
@@InTheWoodyard cheers Chris , that’s impressive, get plenty of splitting done in that time. Have a good day.
Just curious, why do you split your wood into such small pieces ? Is that what your clients prefer or is it your personal preference ?
His customers prefer it that way.
It's entertainment fire wood
.
For watching ,feeling and hearing.
Not boiler wood for only b.t.u's
Customers...fireplace people make up 90% of my customers...not boiler people.
yup
👍👍
thanks!
Experience is the key to successful splitting nasty wood $$
Yup reading the grain helps...some times.
Splitter definitely gets the job done..😁👍
Yes it does!
Nice video.
thanks!
Nice job, making ugly wood look good💪💪
Thanks!
Wait....what?? 🤣
first the satan elm now nasty ash LOL My splitter is down again. Snow is falling hard and the wind is howling
GNI
There is some elm mixed into the whole pile. Some of the stringy stuff was elm.
Yup, the storm is here!
@@InTheWoodyard minus 3 here this mornin clear skies so far. GNI
that is pretty impressive, some of them are tough splitting and it handles them easily. i cut a lot of bigger wood but it would be easy to make a table the height of the splitter and set the big rounds on with my skid steer. i might have to take tony up on his offer to show me his splitter and if i asked real nice maybe i could see yours also and spend some time doing the best job i ever had.
Mabey Tony would bring it over and have them both running together for side by side comparison.
Good idea!
Maybe so.
Hey Chris love watching you split wood. I've noticed your cuts are alot bigger than before. Is that your style now 💜
Some of the wood is ash and it will dry fast and it will be sold next fall/winter so I am making some wood a little bigger.
Do you reckon sub zero frosty conditions help dry wood by squeezing the sap out of it? Some have told me its as good as hot dry days.
No, but the humidity is dryer in the winter and it is windy and sunny and the freeze and thaw cycle we have all winter does dry wood.
Tim Rydman. How many shots did you take from that ash and maple popping open? I’ve been hit by those popping open. Very fun to watch.
not sure, but it does happen!

If that table was a little bigger ✌️✌️👍
Maybe so!
I'd just like to make a short comment, nice work👍
Thanks so much Mr. Sawyer!
ask eastonmade to make taller splitters??? and if they were hydraulically height adjustable, it would be nice. the pump is already there.
Or put it on a 2 x 12 ( or 3 )
You gotta figure cost,
Are you willing to pay another $650.00 - $750.00 to adjust the deck height on a splitter ?
I can't imagine
Me paying that when I can make it taller with a piece of board
I'd bet if you would contact Adam at Easton made
He would offer to do it for you.
Heck
Maybe an umbrella to work under in the hot summer sun would be nice too,
While you are at it.
I
Yes for some of the other splitters they do. And yes they are. yes ans yes.
Can I have a mini fridge on it too?
Don't need any more hair, already look like and old bear. Alot of snaple ,crack and pop on this load. 😁
You got that right!
Bert wood . Soon to be burnt wood .
YuP!!!
Do you ever use a chainsaw bar dressing tool?
not much, I mostly just cut until a new bar is needed, but yes I have fixed them.
Doesn't do you much good when the skid steer splitter doesn't get the rounds fully split. Hernia time!!!!
It helps a lot, the split is started and I can finish it with my x27 or rip it with a saw.
Are your old runners knees noticing a difference between the standing on dirt and new concrete for hours while splitting? Concrete sure beats the mud but there is just something about standing on it all day that my joints always seem to notice...
According to the weather man. You better be charging the snow blower batteries!🤠
That battery blower needs to be accidentally smashed or blown up into tiny pieces.
You mean his wife's batteries on her snow blower?
@@BertsCustomCuts 🤟🔥🔥🤟
Working on a solid surface can definitely be fatiguing. I will spread out an inch of sawdust or use a soft rubber mat to stand on.
No, my feet do start to feel it some days though.
GNI!👍👍
Thanks!
Have a great nite !
Thanks Bruce!
Hard to tell which is worse elm or ash
elm, by far.
Hello Chris. Do you know how many tons of pressure splitter has please? I want to buy something like this in Europe. Thank you, keep splittin 🙂
I believe the Ultra has the same tonnage as the axis. The axis is 14ton.
14 I think, but that is actual, most box store splitters might say 35 tons! But it is actually 20.
