Recalls great memories. I was 2 stroke mad and loved my gt750. I sold it to a friend in 1983 and he still has it but hasn't used it. It still has only 18,000 klms from new. Had cafe setup, kuma mags, clip ons, rear disc and modified dunstall bodywork. Still does but could be put back to standard. Had a custom made/tuned 3 into one and that transformed it. Many underestimated their performance. Had RG500 after that but if I built a special i think I'd still use 750 triple engine. Thanks for post.
I love how you Brits love your bikes. It really comes through in your videos. I also like what you like about motorcycling. You understand, as I do, that when it comes to bikes, usually less is more. Contrary to popular belief, 700 lbs. and 1,500cc doesn't make a bike better to ride on public roads!
your makin my mouth water. i had a gt 750 back in england now i'm back on 2 wheels in oz i've aquired another and will take delivery soon. keep it smokin...
Where can I get a set of those pipes? The sound is awesome! Did you say they were called Pipers? Is that a brand name? And Rearwheelslider, be careful with the peepee trick. Timing is critical. If not properly executed, it can possibly restrict airflow, leading to a rich condition, thus fouling plugs. It should only be tried by professional riders, so I suggest practicing with a shop vac behind your garage until your completely comfortable with the manouver.
Super old tripple, is that a three into one piper?? Years ago i had a GT550 with a piper, sounded fantastic but killed any top end. I put a set of Allspeeds onto her and it brought her alive. Cant beat a 2 stroke......
Correct Sir, had the GT380 as a teenager. But always dreamed of owning the 'kettle', and still do, there was a guy who used to go up Chelsea Bridge on a Friday evening on a pretty mean 750, mods included single seat conversion, allspeeds, dropped bars and an alloy tank. I would have sold a 'kidney' for that machine.
Those pipes were made by Piper but haven't been available since the early 80s but they do sometimes come up on Ebay. I tried rearwheelslider's trick but I flooded my engine :-) Anth.
Great bike Love 2 strokers still have an H2 I drove a friends GT380 when they first came out Loved it. never drove an GT750 I Imagine Its similar in power nothing like the power of an 2 stroker
Funny you say that - I've been thinking that since I looked at the video. I was in a pinch when I sold it but I really loved the bike & they're just such an easy thing to live with. Back in late 70s / 80s hot days , cold days, any days it would just run the same, idle the same, same temperature & friends's air cooled 4 strokes would get hot and fussy and rough in the idle & lose power. Also it was so economical for a big 2 stroke but that RG500 - not too hard to get it to drink like a V8 car !
Funnily enough I always get the same comment in the UK, I've got a sticker on my number plate that says 'you don't see many of these!' Cheers, Anth :-)
hi anth, bin ridin the kettle for about a month now and there is nowt to match it. here in oz you cant park it anywhere without a crowd of people coming up and saying the same thing over and over again, "god mate i aint seen one of these for fu***n years" its a good conversation starter. i am now looking for a G.S.X 1400 for a daily rider while the kettle gets tatred up. keep the videos rollin, tony.......
Aaah Bliss I had one of these back in 1979 I took off standard pipes and fitted a Piper 3 into 1 pipe simply cus I liked the sound like yours, however next day I got blown away by some fat skin head git in an old 3 ltr capri who proceeded to give me the banker sign :-) My bike would only pull 110mph flat out, needless to say I went back home and stuck original pipes back on. Can still see that skinheads face.....ha ha
Beautiful bike. I'm working on one myself, after I'm done I get to keep it. I'm pretty stoked. But I'm a short girl, haha, so I don't know how that's going to work out.
I had '75 kettle. Put mags and a rear disc on it and then Ace bars and a 3 into 1 zorts. Best thing about the 3 into 1 is it got rid of that horrible hunting and chain snatch. Improved low down torque and improved fuel economy but cut out top end power - wouldn't rev out like it used to. For what was basically a commuter that was no big deal. I noticed he kick starts it. I had to with mine too. Sprag clutch die early on its life.
Hi, the Kwacker is faster than the Kettle but had really scary handling due to the frame so it got the nick-name 'Widowmaker', the Kettle was more of a grand tourer but could still get a shift on if you gave it some stick. Cheers, Anth :-)
it's got the original 3 into 4 pipes and as far as i can make out the rest is original too. i saw a set of micron 3 into 3 chambers on the chromeageddon bike in classic m/cycle mechanics that look the business.
hi anth! i'm looking for some info on fuels. some of the petrol stations over here are using ethinol. do you or anyone know if this is detrimental to two stroke engines. there is some controversy here that the fuel rots out the rubber seals in the gt 750.
should be here on march 4th. comes with the registration plate (kettle)as soon as it gets here i'll post a video. we have some awsome rides here in oz and you can be sure the kettle will get it's fair share...
@Atomusk90 i think he was trying a classic trick, since youtube creates a thumb out of your video at a certain place, he put that picture in there thinking it would be the video's thumb, and thus get a hell of a lot more hits.
,i have gone back to my 1974 750 suzuki ,,sick of.fairing.bikes, ie, takes hours to get at ,battery ,spark ,plugs, if it dus start your.knackered ,,no kick start ,then it has to through a e.c.m ,computer if.that dus ,give u ,the ok ,,your stuck, the list goes on ,mr ,c dale my last bike was a kawasaki 1450,ninja ,bf that.,,2 ,hayabusa,s. Mr c dale.
Nice bike but hard to work on for a two stroke/ PLus the performance isnt great. My RD350A would hang no problem and I have no porting. Cool bike anyhow. At least its a 2 smoke
That bike may be a 1976 last year model GT750. Better porting and a race style gear box. And most all the engine parts are probably still stock. But pipes alone do not make it that damn fast. Admit it. You lightened the bike with more porting didn't you??
Last model was produced in 1977 but some was sold as 1978 models, only minor changes from the 1976. My 1977 (late model) isn’t ported or anything, and it rips through the gears nice and easy as well, even with stock exhaust. But guess your right, he probably made it from 738cc to 828cc
Yeah, they're aren't too many. Thank you, I'll sure try, none the less - my height hasn't stopped me on my dirt bikes so I doubt it'll be a problem. (:
After 13 years, still one of my favorite youtube videos. My waterbuffalo is sitting here in my shop.
what a combination, a kettle and griffin clubman, best helmet (for specs wearers) ever.
Recalls great memories. I was 2 stroke mad and loved my gt750. I sold it to a friend in 1983 and he still has it but hasn't used it. It still has only 18,000 klms from new. Superb condition - well done. Brings back memories and would love to have one again. Suzuki Red was always the best colour
the sound of a stroker triple on full song takes me back!! cheers for posting
I keep coming back to this video. I think I'm addicted to it.
I always wanted one when I was at school in the 70s and I still think they're brilliant bikes, cheers, Anth :-)
she sounds awesome with the pipes on. great video, very well put together. more........
your makin my mouth water. i had a gt 750 back in england now i'm back on 2 wheels in oz i've aquired another and will take delivery soon. keep it smokin...

Cheers for that, It's nice that you spotted all the little details, took me ages to find those leathers in a size that fitted :-) Anth.
Cheers Tony, I look forward to seeing your Kettle in the New Year. Merry Christmas, Anth :-)
Man... I´m crying here in Brasil!
Ex owner of a GT 380...
Thanks for post!
Awesome bike, there where a few kettles at the classic bike burn up 26-9-07 at Cadwell Park England great to see/hear them in action.
Super old tripple, is that a three into one piper??
Years ago i had a GT550 with a piper, sounded fantastic but killed any top end. I put a set of Allspeeds onto her and it brought her alive. Cant beat a 2 stroke......
Yes, flooding the engine can be a problem for some of the more "gifted" riders. Lol! Thanks for your input about the Pipers. I'll keep my eye on Ebay.
You sod, I'd forgotten how much I want a Kettle!! Top video!!
Cheers, I think the Kettle is the bike from the 70s that everyone remembers :-) Anth.
great bike and vid, thanks for taking the time to make and share, if you lived in oz i would love to make a vid with you and my gt500
its good to see people ridding on old clasics and not stuck in a shed rotting .
Those pipes were made by Piper but haven't been available since the early 80s but they do sometimes come up on Ebay. I tried rearwheelslider's trick but I flooded my engine :-) Anth.
You can't beat it !! I think the B had electronic - didn't they call it pointless ignition? Cheeers, Anth :-)
NOSTALGIA!! Had three of these bikes.First one 1973 can you beleive the price brand new £799.Those were the days.
Merry xmas anth, and have a safe new year.
keep the videos coming, tony
7550 kettle 3 into 1 on full chat
life doesnt get better than that
cheers for the memories
Cheers, what I like about bikes is character, doesn't matter how quick it is but sounding good is a must :-) Anth.
I was lucky to get the leathers and matching boots in my size. Lots of people in their 40s tell me they either had or wanted a Kettle.
They do look good in Maui Blue, cheers, Anth.
I'll really like to see your 500, I remember seeing a GT185 with a 2-1 back in the eighties but never seen one on a 500. Cheeers, Anth.
My second gt750 back in the 80's had a 3-1,much much better after I swapped over to 3-3 expansion chambers. Great fun !
Great bike Love 2 strokers still have an H2 I drove a friends GT380 when they first came out Loved it. never drove an GT750 I Imagine Its similar in power nothing like the power of an 2 stroker
Certainly the crank seals can be affected by the fuel, I think I would try and contact the petrol manufacturer to be sure. Anth.

I used to buy Bel-Ray oil for my Kettle. It cost more but smelt fantastic,
Anth, what song is this, pretty groooovy tune!
Don't forget the Lewis Leathers :-) Cheeers, Anth.
Funnily enough I always get the same comment in the UK, I've got a sticker on my number plate that says 'you don't see many of these!' Cheers, Anth :-)

The 70s were great!! :-) cheers, Anth.
..Nice kettle,i miss the one i had nearly twenty years ago,it had allspeeds, ive got a thundercat now with a race can,it allmost sounds as good.
They weren't the quickest 2 stroke but they're pretty good at distance work and a lot less fragile than the Kwackers :-) Anth.
Well spotted Dan! It's a 750M But I used 750A decals on the tank :-)
3-3 is good for performance but you can't beat the sound of a 3-1 :-) cheeers, Anth.
Beautiful bike.
I'm working on one myself, after I'm done I get to keep it. I'm pretty stoked.
But I'm a short girl, haha, so I don't know how that's going to work out.
The GT125 is sweet, like your vids. Cheers, Anth.

XS11's are pretty cool as well, I really like that maroon and cream scheme colour they used. Anth.
Anth, you really live the saying RIDE 'EM, DONT HIDE'M...
Fantastic vid and a great bike you have.
They're normally around 2K, there's a nice 750B on Ebay at the moment. Cheers, Anth.
What pipes has it got? Anth.
Cheers, that Piper does sound pretty good :-) Anth.
there's a company that does still make a 3-into-1, Omar's, out of Minneapolis, MN U.S.
I'm planning on picking one up for my '75.
That was the about the same price as a Commando was then, wish I could still get one for that :-) Anth.
hey, which exhaust is that, and is it still available?
If it's dry on Sunday week we're doing a brand new Kettle vid in HD... can't wait!! Cheeers, Anth :-)
Those tires are horrible, how can you ride that? You need Metzler Zs, then you can corner decently. Been riding mine since '90 or so.
it's got the original 3 into 4 pipes and as far as i can make out the rest is original too. i saw a set of micron 3 into 3 chambers on the chromeageddon bike in classic m/cycle mechanics that look the business.
They're machines so you've got to use them, The Kettle loves getting a bit of stick :-) Anth.
Well spotted - the Giuliari seat was fitted when I bought the bike and looks the biz :-) Cheeeers, Anth
tach shows redline @ 7k rpm? ??
Very nice scoot!
Cheers, I really like the howl of a Piper, my 380B had one has well but the Police didn't like it :-) Anth.

Quite right, bikes are machines and meant to be ridden :-) Anth.
I've just got to have the Piper for the noise it makes, I love it :-) Anth.
waht song is playing that video?
Nice vid by the way
The old bikes are good but you can't beat the performance of the new stuff :-) Anth
,i have gone back to my 1974 750 suzuki ,,sick of.fairing.bikes, ie, takes hours to get at ,battery ,spark ,plugs, if it dus start your.knackered ,,no kick start ,then it has to through a e.c.m ,computer if.that dus ,give u ,the ok ,,your stuck, the list goes on ,mr ,c dale my last bike was a kawasaki 1450,ninja ,bf that.,,2 ,hayabusa,s. is there a better sound than a stroker on full song
still no cops on the scene where do you live ?
Hi, 3 into 3 will gives you better power but 3 into 1 sounds so good it's worth the slight loss of performance. Cheers, Anth :-)
I used to have a 380B, it had a 3 into 1 one as well :-)
I'd love to go back to the 70s :-) Anth.
They've started selling Brut again at my local Co-Op! Anth :-)
what year is your kettle?
The RE5 did become a bit of a white elephant :-) Anth.
0:07 sounds like my skidoo formula 3 600 snowmobile haha.
You won't regret buying one, go on! Anth :-)
Glad you liked it, GT250s are going for crazy money over here, seen my X7 vid yet?? :-) Anth.
Nice bike but hard to work on for a two stroke/ PLus the performance isnt great. My RD350A would hang no problem and I have no porting. Cool bike anyhow. At least its a 2 smoke
I always wanted a red one when I was at school :-) Anth.
ButcherChrist, thanks. I'll look into that.
Nice bike too bad you got your leathers on and ready to race but never come close to pulling that thing up to redline???
It's Roadrunner by Jonathan Richman :-) Anth
That bike may be a 1976 last year model GT750. Better porting and a race style gear box. And most all the engine parts are probably still stock. But pipes alone do not make it that damn fast. Admit it. You lightened the bike with more porting didn't you??

Eye candy! Well soptted :-)
3 into 1 spannies no good for 2-stroke, but it does sound good !!
Yeah, they're aren't too many.
Thank you, I'll sure try, none the less - my height hasn't stopped me on my dirt bikes so I doubt it'll be a problem. (:
Cheers, we're out on them most weekends :-) Anth.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :-) Anth.
I rode a GPZ and I thought that was scary :-) Anth.
Yup Kawis blow balls.
I like these bike yours but the perf osnt there like the RD The rd just makes you giddy.
Cheers for that :-) Anth.
Good old Kettle :-) Anth.
