Even in USA people who won the lottery often go broke. You have to be anonymous as well as make and stick to sound financial plans.

If the ticket price was of 500 rupees then if you have invested only at 6% (which is very easily achievable, even 12-14% is possible if invested properly) then you would have earned 2,12,849 at 6%!
I am not saying, do not buy lottery tickets, my point is don't expect anything huge in return, buy it for fun keeping in mind how much money you can afford to lose. Period.

As per the question Bisbo asked i think it depends on the individual who take the Winning in the good side or bad.
My view if you win a lottery
1) No media (Be anonymous)
2) Get a financial expert and pay the tax, and fee related to it
3) Pay of all the expenses and debt so to be free of it( ofcourse)
4) Last but to be best Investment which you understand ( like rental property, Govt Bonds, Gold, etc)
5) Keep some money in saving just in case
And Main thing never be greedy and flashy about your winnings, control your expenses and you will be living a good life without much of problem

When I was 10 my father had won a kerala lottery worth of 25000rs. And a week later he Again win 25000rs.😂 The ticket was only less than 50rs. My father isn't a lottery addict or something, he hasn't even purchased in recent years. I think he got that lucky that time, and we bought gold for that money and treat our relatives.
Personal i don't promote or suggest taking lottery. But if you take its as an entertainment taking lottery is a different experience and vibe. Last vacation my cousins took this Onam bumper lottery ticket and we were laughing and making fun of what will we do if we won the lottery kinda stuff 😅 it a different vibe. And there are many people take lottery just only to help the poor lottery Seller. Still many life's are ruined because of people believing completely upon luck. Hope people realize the scam of lottery, of course they make money for the state and provide jobs, but ultimately people like Anup suffer and many are disappointed at the end of day because they didn’t win. Once they win people around them changes and start treating them differently. It’s definitely not worth it in my Opinion.
It is and if you win it i.e. Once you win then screw other people who ask for assistance. If I get a crores of money I ain't helping a single person who comes asking for my help. I'd help or donate on my own will and not some random who claims to be on death bed or anything else, this would extend even to my family. If you win something then invest that money properly and ofcourse you should leave some of it for your pleasure as well.

We always see the lottery story from the end of the consumer and story of bummped lottery.
But we never considered that the sellers agent are direct are dependent on the lottery sell and we never get the story of the winner of daily or small lottery prices.

It's different when an educated person wins the lottery, of course there are always exceptions but an educated person who wins the lottery and stays anonymous and deletes social media will make great decisions with that huge sum of money.
The guy who won the second prize of 5 crore went anonymous. Even the media was not able to disclose his identity fearing legal issues. And I think he is enjoying his money somewhere in peace while this stupid 1st prize winning guy got his life royally fucked.

I like the direction the Kerala govt took... just like the war on drugs war on anything is futile if people want it. Educating winners is a great initiative. I would also reduce ticket pricing as it is a burden on the poor by attracting other revenue streams such as advertisement. I would look into a mechanism to track people's spend on lottery tickets and see that every spender sees what they spent on lottery and their chances of winning... fund a program to educate people about that too.
