- Replacing ignition coils and doing a Spark plug change on a 2009 Nissan Murano can cost you an arm and a leg. Saved myself $600 to $1000 by doing this tune-up plug change ourselves! Thanks to my Son in Law for the help!

I was able to successfully do this job, no experience, from watching your video!!! Thank you.
That’s awesome! Glad we were able to help!
DEC 2023, Australia.
You Madam, are a gem.
Best video I have seen.
Straight forward, no missing stuff, excellent!
I got misfiring on cylinder 3, (Rear middle cylinder) as read by my OBD scanner.
Your video illustrated perfectly how to get at it.
Sadly I don't have funds to replace all my coils on the rear cylinder bank at the same time.
So I guess I will have to do this job twice more in the future!
The Job is listed as 3hours so I guess I will be saving a few dollars by doing it myself...
(with your invaluable help)
For the benefit of others finding this in the future...
My 2009 Murano has 360,000 Klm on it (225,000 miles) and I have already replace 2 previous coils, both on the front cylinder bank so they were quick and easy to replace.
The original coils were Genuine Nissan coils labeled "Hanshin" yes they were genuine.
So the estimation of coil life of genuine Nissan coils of 230,000 is about right.
So do yourself a favour and replace all 3 coils and spark plugs (with Iridium plugs) while you are doing the job.
Also replace the PCV valve while the intake is off, chances are its already due to replace.
The PCV can be replaced, without removing the intake, its just far more difficult to do.
(The PCV is critical in keeping the crankcase pressure balanced, and can cause problems when it fails!...this is already mentioned in another comment below, but worth re-iterating)
Thanks again Susan, you are a Gem!
Thanks again.
Thank you so much!
You guys are a lifesaver!
Thanks!! That’s why we made the video!
Thanks for the knowledge , worked like a charm
Thats great! Glad it helped!
I Purchased my '09 Murano NEW (AWD) w/08Miles on it. I have about 92,000 Miles on her, so it'll be a While before I Need to Change the Plugs. I Really Appreciate Your Video......I Didn't realize it was that Involved and takes that much time. Way Different than changing Plugs on my 1958 MG ZB Magnette. MuchisimoZ GraciaZ, Michael.
(Even tho Your Bro in-law did ALL the Work, Haha).
My BAD, I Meant 72,000 Miles NOT 92,000 Miles, Didn't realize it...........Until I re-read it. Duuuuh!!!
LOL, it was my Son in Law who did the work only because he is a Truck Driver /Mechanic. I usually do my own repairs after learning how. I just can't see paying mechanics for stuff I can learn to do on my own. I will take in to the shop for major things that are just too complicated or require tools or machines I don't have access to. I am still trying to clear the code and get it running right. I will be changing the Mass Air Flow Sensor in a few days... easy peasy! Subscribe so you can get notified!
Will do. Hope You figure out, how to get rid of that code.
Michael Mitchell I used a cat regeneration service this year and it cleared the code and the light hadn’t come back on. Worth checking into if you’re having cat issues.
@@susandavistv Suzy, As of This writing, I now have 76,450 miles on my Murano.
Keep up the"GOOD WORK" (OR at Least Yer Son in Law.)
Michael.
It's unbelievable whAt you have to take apart just to change spark plugs. They make cars today so the average person can't work on them.
Sooo true!
thanks for the video! My 2009 Murano LE AWD has 118k on the clock and it's about time I changed the original spark plugs. I'm the original owner and I've already went thru 2 sets of new tires, 2 new control arms (front bushings went bad). Now finally the alternator is not charging enough and the AC system went out. Not sure if leak or need new compressor or clutch pack.. I was able to replace the rear brake rotors but had to pay someone to switch out the front ones since I don't have an impact wrench to take off the front bolts..arrggh... at least I can can do DIY on the plugs thx to your video !!! ..though I figured the intake manifold would have to be taken out to get to the 3 plugs.
Thats awesome! I have changed my front brakes too and did a video for it but I just havent edited it yet. They were a pain in the butt! Glad it helped you!
Thanks for this video,very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
Followed step by step thank y’all
Dan Boyer So glad this was helpful!!!! That’s why we made this video!
Susan - aka GrannyRocksResale thank you!!! I’m actually half way right now going along!!
Great video. Just a note: you DON'T put anti seize on iridium plugs. It even says it on 3 different places on that NGK box
Hmmm well I definitely didnt pay attention to that! Thanks for pointing that out! I will edit the video with a pop up to call that out. Appreciate the feedback!
I have always used anti seize on ngk iridiums. I guess they have change their recommendation in the last 10 years.
Thank you, great informative video!
Michael Flores You’re welcome!!
Are you trying to take intake manifold off and leaving cooler line to throttle body on is it possible for does Oliver have to come off
Nice job
Thanks Kevin!!
Saved myself $600!!!
When you remove the intake, you should have replaced the PCV and hose, as well as the hose that connects the valve covers. Those hoses will always be hard and brittle after 80K to 100K miles on the engine and will create a vacuum leak. And if your PVC is clogged, the pressure must go somewhere, and it usually blows a gasket and that's an expensive repair.
Thanks for the tip!
Thanks
SANG THONG You’re welcome hope it helped!
Thanks for the vid....see if I can save myself $650 ....this is how much it cost for a spark plug replacement at any shop in my area...
smith wesson yep me too! It was crazy!!
That’s awesome!!! Glad it helped!
Wow. That's crazy as fuck.
get cat cleaner and run it through a full tank of gas. Then reset the computer on your MO (remove the battery leads for 2 minutes) and then drive it for 90 miles or so, this will allow the computer to start working normally. I did this on my 2009 this year and the Cat warning went away.
dhowser2008 been there and done that. Had it regenerated as well and it still isn’t running right.
So after this I realized I need to do Accelerator release position learning,Throttle Valve close position learning, & Idle air volume learning... tryna figure this out when the key is just a push button.
Silent Warrior I can ask the son in law 🤷🏻♀️
excellent video. How many coil pack this murano need
Hector Perez there are 6 plugs and packs.
Never ever put Anti-seize on spark plugs. It makes them impossible to instal with a torque wrench (May strip threads). Most like NGK recommend a rotation method when installing plugs to insure you properly seat the sealing washer but the manufacturer will also give you a torque for sealing. (A non-sealed plug washer will change the heat range listed on the plug).
If for any reason you remove a plug the torque is lower (See manufacture instructions).
I did not watch the whole video but I hope you blow out the plug area with compressed air before removing plugs.
Also always do plug work on a cold engine.
Dielectric grease is an insulator that is rubber safe. Never use it on any metal just inside rubber boots etc.
Otherwise a nice video.
Yep, that got pointed out by another viewer! Thanks for the comment. We learned a valuable tip. We arent professionals in any way. Just sharing some backyard mechanics to help people save some money.
@@susandavistv A great video. The dealers won't do what i do but i am very fussy with my 6 cylinder aluminum engine.. Keep the videos coming.✌
Osmon Fuller
Stupid question the 12mm bolt in the back next to the insulated line do you pull up on the ratchet or push down to remove it my brain has stopped working.
I dont know for sure and I am sure he doesnt remember. I go with the adage, righty tighty lefty loosey ?? Let us know if you figure it out.
What tools I need to do this?
I am now trying to fit the 2017 engine and transmission in my 2009 because my original transmission died.
Good luck with that!
How long were the sockets? Deep or short to be able to fit in those tight places in the back like the 13mm one
I think he used long for the plugs and regular for the rest. May have used an extension though.
Appreciate the video,I save 1100 dollars for a tuneup
Hg1347 that’s awesome! Glad it helped!!!
Jesus christ.. that's what they're charging huh..
Did you get rid of the check engine light?
Yes, it went off for a few weeks but has since returned. The performance is suffering so it likely is the Cat. I am going to be replacing it soon but will try to do it myself and save even more money. Stay tuned!
Did you also change the intake manifold gasket?
Jonathan Silva no we didn’t. I will the next one ☝️
Did y'all only change the front 3? The lower manifold is a biiiittcchh lol.
No, we did all 6 of them and yes it was!!!!
bsr comment changer les capteurs ahbracam
Do I need to replace the gasket for the intake?
Doesn’t hurt if it is torn or looks like it needs to be. I’m not a mechanic so I can only share what we did. I would google it or ask a mechanic to be sure.
How many miles were you at when you replaced them ?
about 120,00? I think
Was the code coming up for multiple misfires?
It was throwing the Catalytic Convertor code
You forgot to blow out the dirt inside the spark plugs holes. Now you put all that dirt in your engine smh
Great tip thanks!
How many miles did you change spark plugs at.
It was right at 107,000 or so.
Susan Davis after plugs change was working good.
john1240able it worked good for about two weeks and threw a cat code again. I either have an air leak (which I have suspected for a while now) or I actually need to replace the cat. Stay tuned... I’ll be updating once we determine the true issue.
John Able1240 right at 100k
I only see 4 sparks plugs in the pack. Isn't this a V6?
D Step yes there are 6 plugs 3 front and 3 back.
11:03 I took THAT one off and kicked my own butt lol
Oh no!!!! Hope it all worked out!
@@susandavistv yeah it all worked out. Thanks again for your video and helping us all out!
@@supersabrosinho So glad it helped people out!
How long did it take to find that 10 mm socket
🤣🤣🤣🤣
What tools did you use
I believe we called off each tool we used during the video.
Susan Davis it’s been a month wth
My apologies I didnt respond sooner! Have a great day!
You Folk's Called the tools out.
you need a 10 mm 12 mm socket a wrench with 2 adapters and the socket for sparkplugs i think it says 5 8th
Don’t remove hoses from vacuum solenoid. Just remove solenoid. It’s one bolt.
Is that the two hoses that he said could break the plastic if you're not careful?
@@theseattlegreen1871 I believe so. I had one of the small plastic parts break when trying to remove the hose. Also I found it to be very easy to just cut and remove and replace all those small hoses in that general area as they were very corroded and cracking on my moms Murano
@@theseattlegreen1871 I believe I got 3 feet of hose for like $5 and I only used about 1.5’
@@ErolDotCom
On the opposite side of those two hoses were metal he should have left the plastic alone and take off the hoses on the metal part so nothing would break or snap
Thanks for the feedback!
At 5:24
I know you warned everybody about being careful or you will break the plastic but there's no reason to even attempt to take the rubber hose off of the plastic because on the opposite end of the hose there is metal. Do not attempt to take off the hose at the plastic part. Because no matter how careful you are it's still going to snap off.
Also it would have been nice for you to show us how you're taking apart the four screws that hold the plastic part to the block. Even though it's common sense you still should have shown us.
Thanks for the feedback.
You're not going to learn which cylinder is which Don't waste your time if that's what you're looking for
