It's more about the platform and contract that comes with it. Look at old Colbert Report. Vintage Stephen went all the way. What he does now is for a different market is all. You can have too many voices echoing the same things the same way imo.
I agree Stephen’s show actually improved during the shutdown. But I am glad that Stephen is back in the theater with an audience. Not just for the show- but I work around the theater and part of the economic recovery of the area is having the audience there. No audience- no need for the theater- the economy suffers.

@@doggiesareangels I love her too! I love them, together. It was sweet and personal without the audience, but I don't know if that would have worked forever. That said... I can't say the return to old format is better either 😬
Im sure 95% of online viewers are of the same mindset. If only this production cared or read the comments, like trevor and seth have, and adapted to the larger audience online. Not saying get rid of them but maybe include some segments from the no audience room or something. Stephen just went right back to the same old thing
Seth made it work without an audience for a good long stretch. To the point that people were worried about the audience returning. It can work, and it can work well... I'm not worried. Trevor has proven he knows what he's doin' 100 times over. Trust him.
Seth has adapted well to the live audience. But, they’re still annoying to hear. Trevor doesn’t have the huge ego Stephen has, so he doesn’t need the live adoration. This interview reflects the personalities of the the two hosts perfectly. Stephen is aghast at the idea of not returning to an audience because his "show personality" is driven by adulation and having his ego fed. Trevor on the other hand uses a conversational style that encourages you to feel like there's just the two of you. And then there's Seth Myers and Amber Ruffin with their shows that are a bunch of friends inviting you into their world...
When Trevor Noah was named to take over The Daily Show, people were like "Trevor who?" But damn, Jon Stewart knew what he was doing. Trevor has been the perfect host for these times.
I think Steven gets his energy from his audience while Trevor, while a comedian seems more like the introvert type, so no wonder why he chose to go audience free, I do miss the between the scenes bit though it was like an impromptu stand up show, same goes for the corrections by Seth and his jackals it's their way of connecting on a deeper level with their audiences
Trevor and Stephen together. My 2 favorite funny men. The fact that they are both so warm and likeable is why I loved the shows without the audience. It was just like hanging out with a good friend.
@@ScienceBitch123 to each their own. I’m already a big fan of Trevors comedy. The bit about airline seats had me laughing cause I’m the same way. I choose the isle seat every time I fly cause I like the freedom that comes with it. But eh not every interview can be great , oh well.
When Trevor took over from Jon Stewart, the show's format remained the same it was from 2001-2016. Now Trevor and his new crew have remade the show in their own fashion and it works.
Stephen's show suffered a bit going back to audience-filled house. I miss the more intimate shows and Evie. Trevor shows he's more adaptable and survival of the fittest is survival of the most adaptable. The two of these guys together is great.
They are two different types of comedians. Stephen is old school, he needs an audience to give him energy back. Trevor makes comedy for the younger generation, they all watch the show online anyway, he does not need the affirmation.
You must be like a podcast person, this is show business, this isn’t supposed to be just them and a camera, that’s called vlogging/going live/Wayne’s World; what Trevor does is film himself talking in front of no one because he knows he’s not funny, the reason Stephen loves an audience is he knows he is talented and the audience appreciates and respects that.
I started liking Trevor's show mid-pandemic, around the time of the Floyd protests, when I didn't use to like it before. Some of the changes made it better for me.
I started watching him a year or so ago, and developed an appreciation for Trevor's funny 'crew' as well. (I just LOVE Roy when he does that wide-eyed sarcastic stuff, cuz that's how I feel about it too!)
Yeah, thats also what changed my opinion of Colbert...when returned to the live shows he started treating his band like that 'yes um, yes sir, what ever you say sir' dark ages shit. It makes me really creeped out. We all know the band...they are a force of nature getting awards all over. They should be leading the entire musical portions front and center. It's gross.
@@HeatherFaraMS I don't see the difference. It seemed like they were just a distant during the pandemic (it seemed as if they had other stuff going on independently though.) I think the band (are they still Stay Human?) have outgrown SC. I'm waiting for them to bail .
Yes I enjoyed the more real the people you were interviewing and you were during those months. I felt like we got to know you all better and actually liked the people you interviewed better. They all were nicer than I thought they were before. So it was a gift you gave us I hadn't expected
It was more relaxed. It seemed as If Stephen and his guest were less concerned/distracted about the performance/show part, like where is the camera, where is my guest, is the audience having fun, etc. Etc. And it is more about a natural interaction. Laughing together when they felt like it in stead of teaching the public. I like the shows with an audience. Stephens writers seem on a roll and invigerated since they are back again.
Two smart men, also two outstanding comedians having conversations about ordinary stuffs for a late night comedy show! My hyped up enthusiasm of watching Noah get interviewed by Colbert was met with astounding ordinary conversations! Love both of you though!!
I LOVE that Trevor decided NOT to return to the pre-Covid format ... And I really loved what Stephen was doing during the pandemic. I really appreciated the personal vibe that came from that format and frankly, I really liked the show MUCH better without an audience... I think going back to the very old fashioned way is just really outdated & prevents new avenues & out-of-the-box thinking that I thought was really good and entertaining. I know that Stephen just can't live without an audience but I had hoped he would have kept some of the more casual elements of the pandemic format, like, no suits for example made the show feel more personal & less staged for some reason. But what's done is done I guess. But I really appreciate & love that Trevor decided to stay with something new & that he's decided to ditch the audience. He definitely took a risk but I really like the results. ☝️😎👍
I agree! Too bad we can't convince Stephen to WFH like a Casual Friday. At least we could get our 'fix' with that format. From comments online, we are not alone in this preference. I'm actually surprised the production staff or audience engagement people haven't seen all the support for the Stay-at-Home Stephen 'A Late Show' format.
@@bettyveronica460 I'd venture a guess they've seen it... I think Stephen is the one that doesn't want to accept that reality. You can see it quite clearly in how surprised he is that Trevor isn't going crazy about not having a live audience. Stephen is great but he's very set in his ways it seems lol. But maybe, just maybe he can be swayed to do something like your suggestion... That would be a great way to test the waters too. Great idea💡 🙂
I think this way they get to go both ways. Stephen gets to be comfortable and normative, Trevor gets to be new and inventive bringing reassurance that the status quo is being challenged.
I rarely watch The Late Show since it’s gone back to the “normal” format. For me it’s lost so much intimacy and closeness and I’m very aware now how “staged” it is. I believe Trevor is doing the right thing.
I agree with you. I have not liked Stephen’s show since the audience returned. Seth’s show either. And it’s that intimacy that’s missing. Seth’s crew laughing, Evie’s laughter … it was adorable and charming. I find the audience annoying and breaks the flow. But I do understand that comedians need an audience and feed off of them. I back Trevor’s decision and appreciate that I can still have that connection with him through his show’s format.
While I think it’s a very very unpopular opinion because everyone wants things to be “normal”, I fully agree. Perhaps it’s the introvert/disabled due to ptsd part of me but I haven’t found the pandemic as difficult to deal with. I truly enjoyed the more intimate approach that these shows had to take. I’m not a shut in or anything lol but I also have found it hard to go back to the original formats after the more direct intimate one. The only show which isn’t quite the same ,since it’s once a week, that I have no issue continue to enjoy, is last week tonight. Of course I miss “the void” but John Oliver made it seamless and the HBO budget certainly helped that. But yes. I fully understand people happy to have things as they were but I’m with you on feeling differently.
@@Okiedoritos I feel that Oliver had to get back into a room with an audience as he started going off on tangents that made his show hard to follow. Noah thrived better with no audience and made his Daily Show unique from Stewart's version. Stewart's new show shows why Stewart had to leave when he left; he can not deliver his unique taking shots at both sides approach and shows his political leanings too much for fans of his era of the Daily Show. So, in summary, I'm split 50/50 on this but prefer Noah's approach with how his comedy works. Oliver and even Stephen, to an extent, need an audience so they don't get sidetracked, and Stephen works off his audience.
I think Trevor’s strength is in his ability to explain complex problems into relatable stories. The weakness is when he tries to explain that complex problem through a joke. It just doesn’t land. But when he tells a story…it’s captivating thought provoking and sometimes funny. That is how he captures an audience
Trevor was the only late night show who really figured out how to do the show with no audience during the pandemic. He did so by modelling it after youtube content creators. Different style of humor and editing. I’m glad he’s sticking with it.
Love Trevor's pandemic hair. I really liked that he has been able to deliver some very thoughtful, spontaneous soliloquys and reflections while working from home. I hope that continues.
Trevor is brave to try new recipes but if the cake doesn’t rise then the formula is wrong. Trevors interaction with his flock was what made his unscripted interactions so good. But I still love him !
With all the 'improvised' at-home shows throughout the pandemic, I've been thinking: Trevor is the only host who can entertain without an audience... so great choice
@@bettyveronica460 I think Seth was fine without an audience but Stephen seemed like he needed it. Seth's vibe was very much ridiculing himself in the attic and then messing with his staff back in the studio. His show felt like you were snooping on someone's shenanigans when they didn't know you were there. Behind the scenes vibe but up front.
Interesting conversation. Colbert talking about how things got more, not necessarily honest, but natural, somehow reminded me instantly about his January 6 show, and his emotional monologue on that night. I think it may have been his finest moment. I know I will never forget it.
Man, trying to find some kinda balance during Covid has been a process. Periods of isolation, awkwardness for me getting back into a less isolated social groove again... I've always been pretty socially awkward, lol. Man did it get really awkward!
@emre can lol right 😂😂😂 I was gonna say this wasn’t a big deal at all, something like this shouldn’t be the thing that “makes your night”, as it’s just how a regular talk show goes with its guests
I have noticed Stephen dropping the 'y'all' (translation: 'you all', or 'all of you'ns') a lot since being back with an audience. When Andie McDowell was on, it happened a lot between them, but then, they are both South Carolinians.
@@whatabouttheearth Hard disagree. Seth Meyers, John Oliver and Trevor Noah really learned something from their time without an audience. Stephen is back to audience pandering as usual, which is way more awkward in my opinion. He has to pause every time the audience engages and half of the show is him reacting to the audiences reaction. I’m not saying his show is bad, I still enjoy it to some degree, but it was 82x better without the audience, for sure.
I do not get this love for Seth Meyers. He needs his frat boy buddies around him to laugh at his lame jokes - he is not in the same league as Trevor or Stephen
I do think that non-live, wider-audience-focused shows are a new fronteir.....and those who master it, are future proofing their shows. The daily show is enroute to pulling it off 🔜
I think that Meyers, Colbert and Noah all managed it beautifully. It was a very different, weird vibe but it worked... and helped to keep a lot of us at least partially sane.
I found Trevor - and re-found Stephen - when everything went into lockdown. They WERE what got us through the pandemic! Love them both so much, handsome fellas they are. I'm glad Trevor kept the hair and glad Stephen didn't haha. But I was totally feeling Stephen's moustache
Love Colbert. Love Noah. LOATHE trying to find the first part of the interviews. Have you never seen how well 1 of 3, 4 of 6 or 2 of 2 works? Would reallt help us folks who like to watch the videos in sequence 🤔
It's simple,go up to search at the top, type in Stephen Colbert/Trevor Noah or who ever the guest is and they come up in sequence..what i just did.Watch one and go back to the next one.
This is literally how I describe my life as a teacher to my husband and mother daily. They don’t get it. He’s in construction, she’s retired, some of us have felt it differently, Trevor is someone who at least help get me through…
An unexpectedly delightful plunge head-first into the creative process. Noah has chosen to forgo the immediate feedback of a live, in-person audience, but in so doing he is able to sharpen his delivery for his much larger broadcast audience -- live, subscriber, on-demand replay -- and perhaps the more important one, when compared to a studio audience. Kudos to both performers from this appreciative audience of one.
The biggest joy is creating of the show and then the performance is sharing that joy of creating the show with the audience. I lived that! What an outlook! Could this be one of the major differences between a good performer and bad performer??🤔

I like the more relaxed show that Trevor Noah has now.. And the no suit appearance suits him much better. Why do Americans always have to wear suits on shows? And in public? Stephen Colbert was also much more attractive in casual clothes and hair.
The new format is a fine format. It has a very intimate -- almost Charlie Rose-like feel to it but with more humor and less sexual harassment.
charlie let his guest talk without constant interruption
Yes Charlie Rose but without the behind the scenes serial harassment charges...
Charlie's Rose's show was great but Trevor isn't doing that, Rose was serious and deep interviews with no comedy, it can't be compared. It's awkward, comedy just isn't as good to watch without a crowd.

Considering he's rich and famous, yes, less.
@@HeavyMetalGamingOfficial That's tough though man. I mean he might be rich and famous but less of an a-shole like Tucker & Co. Sure Trevor less?

@@carmenelenamitrofan6860 yes it does, the pandemic effected people without mass wealth, that's what happened, not sure where you were existing, but Trevor was playing with his rich friends and having parties, all the while pretending to suffer like the common man which he certainly isn't

Oh how I wish Stephen had Trevor's courage! To build on the good work that emerged during the dark time.
Trevor's courage? What to be a one trick pony, Trevor was good at the start but he's been a lockstep liberal with no party wavering for a while now, he doesn't really have his own opinions anymore
Hm on the other hand, Jon Batiste and Stay Human deserve a proper stage, it's the best band in Late Night imo, even compared to the amazing Roots
What good work has he done In South Africa 🇿🇦?
These two are great separately. Together - magic! And I have to comment on Trevor's suit - gorgeous!
100%
I kinda miss the pandemic vibe but I love Trevor Noah. And, I miss seeing him in a hoodie. Also, all of these late shows were better and more intimate. I understand missing an audience, but just cuz you didn't hear us laugh didn't mean we didn't.
Good on Trevor for breaking and remaking! And wishing Stephen all the best to find ways to bring at least some of the good things he found during the pandemic to an audience. Seth Myers is doing quite well combining both worlds...
Two of my favorite Hosts of all Late Night Shows. I could listen to there´s Conversations 24/7. Greetings from Germany, U both make me stand up every Morning way more Fun and enjoyable. Thank You :O)

I miss you Unna and Dortmund, Germany! What I'd do to get back to living there!
I actually prefer Seth Meyers and Trevor Noah with no audience. Steven is better with an audience because he is so physical, with his miming and dancing, he is better with an audience. I just can't wait til he blesses us with his "caravan" dance again.
But we don't get to see his wife as often and she's a gem!
@@doggiesareangels I love her too! I love them, together. It was sweet and personal without the audience, but I don't know if that would have worked forever. That said... I can't say the return to old format is better either 😬
ua-cam.com/video/TmY3Y8CHtdE/v-deo.html
I like the no audience format more, don't have to wait for 30 secs for cheering to stop for the show to go on.
Seth’s just cool either way, Seth makes friends with everyone, from smoking cockroaches, to pizza eating rats. Anyone he encounters becomes his show😸
@@chloekey8043 they have different personalities and shows, no need to go to personal attacks.

Enjoy them both.
I just realized that trevor had a unique experience doing the daily show during lockdown compared to other late night shows. trevor was quarantining alone while the other hosts at least was quarantining with their families.
He was quarantining with Minka Kelly at some point
Wrong his girlfriend was living with him and he went back to his place in LA
@@thatgirlHI living with a girlfriend at some point is still different with family and kids. even john oliver in his white void mentioned his kids once in a while. and didn't they broke up some time back?
What an intelligent, interesting conversation. More nerds on tv! This is gold
Trevor looking very snazzy in that suit. 💯
He sure looks great but I also loket hij collection of hoodies.
It's weird to see him in a suit now 🤣🤣🤣
Trevor has always been smart. I'm happy to see he hasn't dulled. His book is fascinating, the audio book with him telling his story is eye opening.
I find stephen doesnt consider us online audience an audience and Seth and Trevor have come to realize we are still an audience, just not in person, and theres ALOT more of us online than in person
Great analysis.🤔
So very true
Yeah, a frat party. No wonder I don't like Seth Meyer
ua-cam.com/video/TmY3Y8CHtdE/v-deo.html
When Trevor Noah was named to take over The Daily Show, people were like "Trevor who?" But damn, Jon Stewart knew what he was doing. Trevor has been the perfect host for these times.
I love the love between these two hosts.
I didn't notice that The Daily Show didn't have an audience!! Trevor, you"re doing excellent!! I love ya!!
Doesn't Seth still do Corrections with the audience present? I think he does but I agree, the Between the scene was phenomenal
My two favorite people! Trevor Noah and Stephen Colbert!! ❤❤❤
The old master and the young sensation giving us a window into how it's done.
Trevor and Stephen together. My 2 favorite funny men. The fact that they are both so warm and likeable is why I loved the shows without the audience. It was just like hanging out with a good friend.
I already know this interview is going to be fun and hilarious ☺️
Right??!! 💯 Just uplifting! 😁
But it wasn't. It was awkward and kind of bad
@@ScienceBitch123 to each their own. I’m already a big fan of Trevors comedy. The bit about airline seats had me laughing cause I’m the same way. I choose the isle seat every time I fly cause I like the freedom that comes with it.
But eh not every interview can be great , oh well.
His new format is absolutely great! The correspondents drop by, interrupt him etc - the art of joke telling changed… go on Trevor 👍👌
I like both versions but I do think we need Evie. Petition to bring back Evie as a permanent part of the show!
But Stephen seems so much happier with the audience, so I'm fine with it
They are two different types of comedians. Stephen is old school, he needs an audience to give him energy back. Trevor makes comedy for the younger generation, they all watch the show online anyway, he does not need the affirmation.
@@VinceValentine Well put and I totally agree.
I'll have to check it out cuz I only tuned in very occasionally and something didn't click for me. Maybe now it will.
It's gross.
But do you know you're gay?
@@HeatherFaraMS I don't see the difference. It seemed like they were just a distant during the pandemic (it seemed as if they had other stuff going on independently though.)
I think the band (are they still Stay Human?) have outgrown SC. I'm waiting for them to bail .
THANK YOU! The pandemic is not over and having an audience when thousands a day are dying from a contagious illness is ABSURD. Good for Trevor!
Loved when there was no audience with Stephen, Trevor and others. Just them and the staff. Very real and intimate
Love the band and high energy of Stephen's audience though
I think this way they get to go both ways. Stephen gets to be comfortable and normative, Trevor gets to be new and inventive bringing reassurance that the status quo is being challenged.
@@bettyveronica460 wow my view exactly. 👍
I rarely watch The Late Show since it’s gone back to the “normal” format. For me it’s lost so much intimacy and closeness and I’m very aware now how “staged” it is. I believe Trevor is doing the right thing.
I disagree, the audience is essential
Agree. It was great hearing Stephen's wife cracking up off camera.
Both of your shows were better without audiences, I liked the Covid compromise better the current formats.
I think Trevor’s strength is in his ability to explain complex problems into relatable stories. The weakness is when he tries to explain that complex problem through a joke. It just doesn’t land. But when he tells a story…it’s captivating thought provoking and sometimes funny. That is how he captures an audience
Always a delight to see Trevor!
Between you two, Samantha Bee, and John Oliver...you all have held it down for everything 2020-2021!!! Thank you :)
I LOVE the no audience, Trevor! You da man!
And Stephen, you could ask your guest more questions and let HIM speak more than you.
Love you both!
Trevor is one of the sharpest minds ever on TV, he is the to 5. I could listen to him all day.
Trevor was the only late night show who really figured out how to do the show with no audience during the pandemic. He did so by modelling it after youtube content creators. Different style of humor and editing. I’m glad he’s sticking with it.
He didn't imitate the UA-camrs. He lived his youth as an indoor child - go back and rewatch the last interview he did with Colbert!
Seth Meyers adapted wonderfully, also
Love Trevor's pandemic hair. I really liked that he has been able to deliver some very thoughtful, spontaneous soliloquys and reflections while working from home. I hope that continues.
Jackals from Late Night, “Hold up, Seth had that option too?!”
Eyyy fellow jackal
🤣🤣🤣
Luckily Seth is still telling weird, specific jokes about cockroach musicals and the sea captain in his live audience Closer Look.
He gave us the attic
He'll be getting calls from other hosts about his jackals putting their paws on their shows.
Trevor is brave to try new recipes but if the cake doesn’t rise then the formula is wrong. Trevors interaction with his flock was what made his unscripted interactions so good. But I still love him !
My 2 favorite comedians on the same stage!! Love to you both!
With all the 'improvised' at-home shows throughout the pandemic, I've been thinking: Trevor is the only host who can entertain without an audience... so great choice
I thought Stephen, and Seth did well without an audience too, but they seem like they really need it. I'm happy Trevor knows he doesn't need one.☺️
He's more awkward, Seth Meyers is more Awkward, Colbert was fine and Oliver was great.

Both Seth and Trevor realized that late night shows are way better without audience pandering
They're not. They're both way more awkward

"Pants are not bad." --Trevor Noah
I was going to write the same comment verbatim.
Pants 👖are good 😊
Pants: Sufficient!
