  • Well, I couldn't help myself! Picked up a Manix 2 Lightweight, partly because I've had my PM2 consistently disassembled, and boy howdy... I love it!

The Manix 2 LW is one of my all time favorite EDC's. I do prefer the Manix 2 XL for a larger folder when I'm working, however I carried the BD1N LW continually for a year as my daily. After the first year I stopped to sharpen it and realized it had picked up a chip. I hadn't noticed as the rest of the blade was still sharp. The BD1N turned out to be very easy to work with, minimal time on a Work Sharp and the edge was good as new. Great choice, the LW disappears in almost any pocket.

I’ve had Manix lightweight for 2 or 3 years now, it’s in BD1, not even BD1N.
I love it. It is probably my most used knife and I have a fairly substantial collection. I actually really like the steel, it sharpens up really easily and takes a crazy sharp edge. I found the action to be a bit stiff when I first got it, but it has broken in nicely.
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

The manix is a gorgeous, gorgeous work of art. Haven't tried the light versions but the original manix2 on g10 black / satin blade is the epitome of folders. It just doesn't get any better in terms of build quality and craftmanship. At first I found it to be a bit on the heavy side but the more I play with it the more im glad I got the full stainless liners. I cant spend a day without flicking it a few times.

I caught bug too, brother! I got the Southpaw version of the PM2 n love it! Kept it pretty simple of the customization, just swapped out the clip with a shorty deep carry lynch clip, and a cheap lanyard.. & then got my second last week, a Spydiechef, that I fully decked out with some bronzed titanium hardware and a matching lynch clip. & Gonna be picking up one of these bad boys in the same color for my lil brother’s bday gift!

I have had that same Manix2 lw in translucent blue for over a year now. It is in my pocket as I type this. I liked the knife from the start but the longer I have it the more I like it. It's a full size knife but very light. BD1N is supposed to be almost as good as S30V. BD1N is much better than BD1. The nitrogen makes all the difference.

The Shaman is my favorite Spyderco but the Manix is a close second…the prides of my Manix collection are the 204p REC and a crucarta model. In hand, the CBBL mechanism gives the Manix the sturdiest feel in Spyderco’s lineup. Full liners with the cage for a stop pin and a ball bearing keeping you locked up. It feels every bit as over-built as my AD20 or any other knife that’s touted as being “hard use”.

CPM S20V vs CTS BD1N. There is a huge gap between those two steels and you could regreat of your new purchase, specially if you were already used to the excelent first one. I would buy at least a Manix 2 in SPY27 which in my opinion is only a middle range steel, better a CPM S110V blue version to be sure of its performances.

While there is certainly a gap between S30V and BD1N, in general everyday use I don't think you're going to notice much of a difference. I'm quite pleased with the performance I've gotten out of the BD1N, so far, and wouldn't say it's a steel to avoid by any means. It might not have the same level of edge retention as S30V, but I have found it to be plenty adequate whilst being easier to bring back to an insanely sharp edge. YMMV!

My standard G10/S30V Manix 2 drops shut. Same goes for my XL and my LW in CPM-SPY27. My CTS-BD1N does sometimes but I have to snap close it most of the time. Love the Manix line. My only problem is when I close them, my pinky digs into the pocket clip. It can get uncomfortable after a time.

After some pivot tuning, and loctiting it in place, it drops shut no problem now. I love the lines and the ergos on the knife, it feels great to use, but I do think I'd like the lock action to be a little less stiff - that bar can be a little hard to pull back with wet fingers, sometimes.

Mine has actual Torx screws all around for disassembly. The lens I use for choosing knives is foremost personal protection, so I found almost all Spydercos ugly in that regard, especially how the tip does not index with the grip because of the handle angle. Spyderco makes ugly knives and looking at them you won't understand why people like them. It's definitely a knife you need to get in hand to understand the love of it. The edge comes sharp and clean out of the box, the deployment is smooth, the ergonomics are designed intelligently, it's got premium (or atleast good quality) materials... It's a well made knife that works, it sacrifices beauty for maximizing performance.
